Telnet Redes Inteligentes (Spain)

In Spain, national laws were approved to avoid birds electrocution, establishing isolation improvements for high voltage power lines, in order to protect birds. This national law prevents distribution companies from having and building dangerous power lines in sensitive areas for birds. It settles some binding technical prescriptions for the electricity pole design, anti-collision measures, etc...

We present here a Quasi-Omnidirectional dual polarized antenna working from 1.6 up to 3.8 GHz for 5G technology. The antenna has the overall dimensions of π × 1352 × 50 mm 3 . The Vivaldi antenna was chosen as the element of the array due to its wideband impedance bandwidth, high gain and the end-fire radiation patterns characteristics.

Considering the significant increase in projects and initiatives in Europe on microgrids connected to the distribution grid, CIRED launched a working group to address the topic of the technical requirements for the operation of microgrids in both interconnected and islanded modes. The work of this working group started in January 2019 and finished in February 2021. This paper summarizes the content of the report. It aims at providing recommendations on lessons learned from a selected representative and complementary panel of real-life existing demonstration (mostly full scale). The group also took advantage of past projects from where real site conclusions were obtained as well as the expertise within the working group, to guarantee a report with practical conclusions on top of a synthetic state of art. Several microgrid demonstration were identified as top tier projects, covering a wide scope of applications. Among others, the WG studied the deployed assets, the modes of operation, the obtained results and conclusions and mostly the technical lessons learned, i.e., what would be needed to generalize such demonstrator in a daily life operation of a distribution grid (mostly excluding economic, social and environmental criteria).

This research was developed within the geographical area of the campus of the "Pontificia Universidad Catlica del Per" (PUCP, Lima-PE), and deals with the design and centers once electricity and water distribution networks within the campus buildings and pavilions academic. The data (measurements) were collected on the main servers, taking into account the communication capacity of each device, the available communication channels, and meeting their respective restrictions of range, zone limitation, among others. The objective is to design an optimal route of the data of each point, searching for the minimization of the costs implementation's. The research began with the identification of the measurement requirement (number of meters of each type) in each of the 54 buildings (pavilions) and the distance (location) of each point within the campus. A description of the available communication devices and technologies is made, with an emphasis on their cost specifications, range ranges and data repeatability. Once the routes, quantities of devices required and restrictions were presented, the optimum route of the data and the quantity and type of communication devices required at each point were determined using the AMPL software. A comparison was made between this result and the non-optimized one, they achieve significant savings with the optimization model.

An optical system for the transmission of digital\nvideo broadcasting (DVB) signals is proposed and experimentally\ndemonstrated. The transmission media comprises 1-mm\ndiameter graded-index plastic optical fiber (GI-POF) with a\nrelatively high bandwidth. The system is fully engineered\nusing low-cost off-the-self components including a vertical-cavity\nsurface-emitting laser, a silicon avalanche photodiode, POF connectors,\nand all integrated radio frequency (RF) circuitry. The RF\ndistribution of standard DVB-satellite second generation signals\nin 950 2150 MHz and DVB-terrestrial signals in 470 790 MHz\nover 25-m GI-POF is successfully demonstrated.

Background/objective:The START study was a large general practice observational study involving 400 patients with migraine. Given the large sample size, a sub-analysis was planned to ascertain whether any patient characteristics/behaviors might help predict/explain the responses observed in this study, which demonstrated that almotriptan administered early when pain was mild significantly improved pain-related outcomes compared with non-early/non-mild treatment. Methods:This pre-planned sub-analysis assessed the impact of predictors of patient satisfaction, medication history, delayed drug intake, etc. on the primary pain endpoints of the START study. Results:Patients had previously tried an average of 2.5 drugs for migraine relief and were currently taking a mean of 1.4 drugs. Almotriptan had been tried by 21% of the sample and was still being used by 83% of this sub-group. Treatment satisfaction was higher in the subset of patients taking almotriptan than in almotriptan-naїve individuals (p < 0.001) and this may explain why this group had the highest continuation rate of all drugs evaluated. On completion of the study, patient satisfaction was higher in the early/mild treatment group than the non-early/non-mild group (p = 0.049). Many patients delayed taking almotriptan, despite being instructed otherwise. Patients reported that this was primarily because they believed that they should only take the medication in the case of a severe migraine attack and/or to ensure that the symptoms were definitely due to migraine headache. The limitations of the trial include its open, observational design, and the small number of individuals who managed to treat their migraine attack within 1 hour when it was still mild. Conclusions:Almotriptan was associated with increased patient satisfaction, particularly when taken early. Further action is required to increase patient compliance with early treatment regimens to improve clinical outcomes.

In a large observational general practice study (the Standardized Study with Almotriptan in Early Treatment of Migraine [START]), 12.5 mg almotriptan administered within 1 h of pain onset and when pain was mild significantly improved pain-related outcomes, compared with later treatment or when pain was more severe. Migraine triggers at baseline and during treatment were recorded, and it was examined whether trigger factors could affect almotriptan-induced headache improvement. More than 400 patients were enrolled, and 1174 attacks were assessed. At baseline, patients reported a mean of 2.6 types of triggers related to the start of their previous migraine attacks. During the trial, a mean of 1.5 trigger factors for each attack was recorded. The most frequent trigger during the study was stress (37% of migraine attacks), with poor sleep (34%), fatigue (32%) and menses (19%) also being widely reported. Stress and fatigue and/or poor sleep were the most frequent trigger combinations. Early treatment with almotriptan improved clinical outcomes, regardless of the trigger factors involved. Similar results were observed for nonearly administration, although this was less efficacious than early intervention. An exception in the nonearly group was that migraines triggered by poor sleep had better responses than attacks in which sleep disorder was not a factor. Almotriptan maintained its efficacy irrespective of trigger factors in migraine patients treated in everyday clinical practice and, as shown in other studies, it was most effective in reducing pain-free rates when administered early, when pain was still mild.

This paper presents the vision shared by partners from the CELTIC project HOMESNET about Femto Base Station deployed at Home, i.e. Home Base Station (HBS). Three of the main aspects under study are presented. The challenges in HBS self-organizing, including femto-macro coexistence, are explained and methodology for successful self-organization is proposed. To achieve very low radio emission at home or constrained environment like hospitals, an architectural option for HBS relying on Radio over Fiber approach is proposed. Last, an innovative use case for HBS, allowing indoor emergency telemedicine scenarios, whereby, paramedics are able to seamlessly exploit HBS at the patient or neighboring apartment, is described. The expected impacts of the HOMESNET project and the planned next steps toward this vision are presented.

Rapid detection systems and other surveillance and real-time monitoring systems have become more and more a reality in recent years. The information generated is very useful for avoiding risks and to optimally manage the available firefighting resources. However, there are lots of scenarios for which a rapid and effective response is not possible because of strong winds, the absence of daylight or difficulty in gaining access to a specific location with conventional aerial assets. This paper presents a new forest fire suppression tool capable of handling all these factors: Flamingo (Forest fLAMes INtelliGent Outputter), a low-cost semi-expendable Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) with a single-use deposit loaded with fire retardants.
