Characterisation of Plasma Vitrified Simulant Plutonium Contaminated Material Waste
Abstract The potential of plasma vitrification for the treatment of a simulant Plutonium Contaminated Material (PCM) was investigated. It was demonstrated that the PUO2 simulant, CeO2, could be vitrified in the amorphous calcium iron aluminosilicate component of the product slag with simultaneous destruction of the organic and polymer waste fractions. Product Consistency Tests conducted at 90ºC in deionised water and buffered pH 11 solution show the PCM slag product to be durable with respect to release of Ce.

Synthesis of aluminum nitride in transferred arc plasma furnaces
Ultrafine particles of aluminum tnitride (AIN) arc produced by a transferred an plasma. Two devices are used: a transferred arc plasma on aluminum natal in nitrogen or nitrogenlammonia atmospheres, and a item concept of transferred arc plasma when, DC anode and cathode ares are coupled together above an alumintun melt. Equilibrium chemical compositions mere calculated. The temperature distributions in the plasma are measured hr emission spectroscopy Flit, powder, made from 99.8%, aluminum ingot, it as analyzed and confirmed to be 99.3%, of hexagonal phase aluminum nitride. In othertests, from 99.99% aluminum ingot, a translucent AIN vinter was obtained. The densification behavior was assessed by hot pressing and by pressureless sintering, with and without additives. The thermal conductivities are given.

Cesar presents an automated multiparameter approach to pattern recognition in the rapid detection of malignant cells from cervical and other cancers. Cells are cybernetically classified. They are collected into a container into which a nuclear stain may be incorporated and laid as a track on 35 mm. film using a disposable mapping pen device. The film track (Cytotrack) may be scanned using conventional optics and provision may be made for electronic sensing devices measuring a number of parameters, some of which are not normally used in conventional microscopy.
