Long-term within-laboratory precision data for malt analyses has been calculated using the results of daily check malts used in UK laboratories. It is suggested that this data may be useful in developing systems for monitoring malt contracts particularly the release of product by supplier or acceptance by customer. An analysis margin concept has been suggested as a procedure which might be adopted.

The Institute of Brewing and International Standards Organization methods for barley moisture have been compared. The precision of both methods is similar but the International Standards Organization method has given slightly higher values.
