Abstract Aristotle’s exploration of the infinite in his Physics III employs a dialectical method to clarify its nature within natural reality. By engaging with his predecessors’ positions, Aristotle delineates three meanings of ‘infinite’, focusing on a traversable, termless principle. His dialectic reveals that the infinite lacks simultaneous actual existence, existing instead in potency, but with a successive actuality in time and motion. This nuanced account resolves apparent contradictions by positing the infinite as homonymous, applying analogously to time, motion, number, and magnitude divisibility. Aristotle’s ‘infinite in potency’ accommodates diverse interpretations – capacity for divisibility and process for time – unifying them through matter as their foundation. This approach untangles dialectical impasses, aligns with observed properties, and explains Aristotle’s predecessors’ varied positions. Recognizing the infinite’s analogous nature resolves scholarly disputes, while affirming its grounding in a material as subject to continuous quantity.

This paper describes a pilot study conducted at a independent senior living center with residents suffering from Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). This 7 week quasi-experimental, pre-post design was implemented. For the 7-week period, students for St. Thomas Aquinas College were randomly assigned to residents who are diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease. The pre and post questions are designed to measure the residents' moods, memories, socialization and relaxation. The results of the study indicated an important correlation of participation in TTAP Method programming which uses a meditation prior to each activity to enhance the resident's feelings of increased memory abilities, mood enhancement and overall feeling of relaxation.

Latinas/os are deeply religious, and their way of expressing and experiencing God and life is often different from that of the U.S. dominant culture. With the importance of family, community, and the belief that God is actively present in daily life in a Latino context, this article explores the interplay between la familia as locus theologicus and Religious Education in lo cotidiano. It examines family life as portrayed by Hispanic theologians and religious educators. Thick descriptions and portraits of the families, parish religious educators, and faith communities are used to explore how faith is formed and expressed in Hispanic families.

The ability to browse and retrieve images based upon image content is of rapidly growing importance. This paper describes a content-based image retrieval (CBIR) system that combines dynamic, user-driven search capabilities. The system's ability to support both query-by-sketch and query-by-example is enhanced by the use of intelligent user interface agents (UIAs). The UIAs use both neural networks and an expert reasoning system to assist with relevance feedback. In addition to describing the system, a new CBIR evaluation metric is presented

We have carried out a deep narrow-band imaging survey of six fields with heavy-element quasar absorption lines, using the Goddard Fabry-Perot (FP) system at the Apache Point Observatory (APO) 3.5-meter telescope. The aim of these observations was to search for redshifted Ly-$\alpha$ emission from the galaxies underlying the absorbers at $z = 2.3-2.5$ and their companion galaxies. The 3 $\sigma$ sensitivity levels ranged between $1.9 \times 10^{-17}$ and $5.4 \times 10^{-17}$ erg s$^{-1}$ cm$^{-2}$ in observed-frame Ly-$\alpha$ flux. No significant Ly-$\alpha$ emitters were detected at $> 3 \sigma$ level. The absence of significant Ly-$\alpha$ emission implies limits on the star formation rate (SFR) of 0.9-2.7 $M_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$ per 2-pixel x 2-pixel region, if no dust attenuation is assumed. We compare our results with those from other emission-line studies of absorber fields and with predictions for global average SFR based on the models of cosmic chemical evolution. Our limits are among the tightest existing constraints on Ly-$\alpha$ emission from galaxies in absorber fields, but are consistent with many other studies. In the absence of dust attenuation, these studies suggest that SFRs in a large fraction of objects in the absorber fields may lie below the global mean SFR. However, it is possible that dust attenuation is responsible for the low emission line fluxes in some objects. It is also possible that the star-forming regions are compact and at smaller angular separations from the quasar than the width of our point spread function and, get lost in the quasar emission. We outline future observations that could help to distinguish between the various possibilities.
