Patients treated with a 1726-nm laser showed significant improvement in moderate-to-severe acne for ≥6 months in a prospective study. One-year follow-up data are presented. In this prospective institutional review board-approved study, patients underwent 3 treatments with a 1726-nm laser, 2-5 weeks apart. Inflammatory lesion counts and Investigator's Global Assessment scores were assessed at baseline, 3 months, and 1 year after treatment. Adverse events, treatment satisfaction, and self-confidence were assessed. Of 104 patients with Fitzpatrick skin types II-VI and moderate-to-severe acne, 89 and 71 patients, respectively, attended 12- and 52-week visits. At 12 weeks, 79.8% demonstrated ≥50% improvement in inflammatory lesion counts, which increased to 91.5% at 52 weeks. The proportion of patients with clear or almost clear Investigator's Global Assessment scores increased from 36.0% at 3 months to 66.2% at 52 weeks. Treatment was well tolerated: Mild erythema and edema occurred in 100% and 98.1% of patients, respectively. No blistering, crusting, or hypo- or hyperpigmentation were observed. Patient satisfaction and self-confidence improved at both follow-up timepoints. No control group; reliance on image assessment; open-label design. The seboselective 1726-nm laser is an effective and well-tolerated therapy for reducing moderate-to-severe facial acne for at least 1 year.

Optical Burst Switching networks are considered as an important candidate for the futuretransport networks. As the size of network increases conventional methods used in teletraffic theory to model these networks become computationally difficult to handle as the state space grows exponentially. In this paper, we have applied overflow theory analysis to model these networks. We proposed a method on how to calculate the blocking probability at core node OBS using equivalent random theory.

Network structures and graphs that feature the Small-World property have drawn a strong interest from the research community in two perspectives: 1) The Small-world effect is a popular phenomenon amongst several real-world complex networks; 2) Small-world graphs are considered veryuseful tools to model real-world complex networks as well as to design new topologies for certain applications in computer networks. We propose to study a new general random graph model that can be used to analyze the small-world effect (such an approach is already widely used). Our main result is to construct a general sufficient condition for this graph model to have logarithmic diameter, i.e. O(logn) for n as the number of the vertices. This result can help to assess and analyze several new graphs model for small-worlds

This study suggests a conceptual framework for examining the impact of stress (i.e., level of violence), personal resources, social support, institutional responsiveness, and coping upon the psychological health (i.e., depression, mastery, and self-esteem) of battered women. Respondents were 60 women who had sought assistance from a shelter for battered women. Results indicated that increased levels of violence, minimal personal resources, lack of institutional and informal social support, and greater avoidant coping styles were related to lowered self-esteem and more severe depressive symptoms. Exploratory analyses suggested that stress (i.e., level of violence) and personal resources may have indirect effects upon functioning through their impact on coping responses and the availability of social support. In particular, women who had fewer social contacts unaccompanied by their partner were less likely to receive supportive responses from friends. Implications for research and practice are discussed.
