In recent years, the maritime technology and shipbuilding industry, including yachts and pleasure crafts as well as marine structures, have faced significant challenges, such as technological advancements, environmental sustainability, and global competitiveness. This article presents a comprehensive investigation conducted within the European project LeaderSHIP, focusing on the current state of training programs for workers in the sector and specifically identifying emerging and urgent skills necessary for future success. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through surveys distributed to industry professionals, educational institution representatives, and companies. The results highlight a disparity between the skills demanded by employers and those provided by training programs. Notably, the investigation reveals critical gaps in essential areas such as sustainable design, technological innovation, and resource management, underscoring the need for immediate action. The analysis emphasizes the importance of continuous updating and a closer alignment between academia and industry. It suggests that collaboration between educational institutions and businesses could significantly enhance training quality. Implementing practical learning programs and internships, along with creating flexible curricula that can adapt to the sector’s dynamic needs, is proposed as a vital strategy to address these gaps. Finally, the article discusses future perspectives for training in maritime technology, stressing the necessity to invest in advanced skills and foster a culture of innovation. This study provides valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and entrepreneurs, highlighting the critical need for an integrated approach to effectively tackle the challenges posed by emerging and urgent skills in the shipbuilding industry.

Recently, metamaterial absorber has attracted considerable attention because of a broad range potential application to electromagnetic stealth, electromagnetic detectors, and electromagnetic communication. And to solve the problem which traditional metamaterial absorbers can only operate at a fixed frequency or within a limited frequency range, the tunable metamaterial absorbers attract more and more attention. But the previous metamaterial absorber can only achieve adjustable absorption in a single frequency band, which has not met people’s increasingly higher requirements for practical applications. To solve this problem, a multispectral tunable metamaterial absorber was designed by combining VO2 and metamaterial absorbers using the phase transition characteristics. In this paper, the absorption rate curve in the terahertz band and infrared band had been simulated by CST Microwave Studio software. And the simulation results showed that the metamaterial exhibited meta-absorption in the terahertz band when the temperature was set to high temperature (80°C) and the VO2 behaved as a metal phase in this temperature. However, the simulation results showed that the metamaterial exhibited meta-absorption in the infrared band when the temperature was set to low temperature (40°C) and the VO2 behaved as an insulator phase. Furthermore, the absorptive properties of the metamaterial absorber had been simulated under different lengths of VO2-cross when the VO2 behaved as a metal phase and under different lengths of metal-cross when the VO2 behaved as an insulator phase. Finally, the mechanism of electromagnetic absorption and multispectral tunable were discussion by simulating and analyzing the surface current distribution and electric field of the metamaterial absorber. The results showed that the metamaterial absorber can realize meta-absorption in the terahertz band or infrared band by changing the temperature which have potential application values in the fields of multispectral stealth, multispectral detection and multispectral communication.

To test a collaborative care model for interfacing sleep specialists with primary care providers to enhance patients' sleep disorders management. This study used a randomized, parallel group, clinical intervention trial design. A total of 137 adult (29 women) VA outpatients with sleep complaints were enrolled and randomly assigned to (1) an intervention (INT) consisting of a one-time consultation with a sleep specialist who provided diagnostic feedback and treatment recommendations to the patient and the patient's primary care provider; or (2) a control condition consisting of their usual primary care (UPC). Provider-focused outcomes included rates of adherence to recommended diagnostic procedures and sleep-focused interventions. Patient-focused outcomes included measures taken from sleep diaries and actigraphy; Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scores; and self-report measures of sleepiness, fatigue, mood, quality of life, and satisfaction with health care. The proportions of provider-initiated sleep-focused interventions were significantly higher in the INT group than in the UPC group for polysomnography referrals (49% versus 6%; P < 0.001) and mental health clinic referrals (19% versus 6%; P = 0.02). At the 10-mo follow up, INT recipients showed greater estimated mean reductions in diary total wake time (-17.0 min; 95% confidence interval [CI]: -30.9, -3.1; P = 0.02) and greater increases in sleep efficiency (+3.7%; 95% CI: 0.8, 6.5; P = 0.01) than did UPC participants. A greater proportion of the INT group showed ≥ 1 standard deviation decline on the PSQI from baseline to the 10-mo follow-up (41% versus 21%; P = 0.02). Moreover, 69% of the INT group had normal (≤ 10) Epworth Sleepiness Scale scores at the 10-mo follow-up, whereas only 50% of the UPC group fell below this clinical cutoff (P = 0.03). A one-time sleep consultation significantly increased healthcare providers' attention to sleep problems and resulted in benefits to patients' sleep/wake symptoms. This study is registered with clinicaltrials.gov with identifier # NCT00390572.
