To explore food group intake and adherence to the Mediterranean Diet (MD) in a representative sample of 2833 middle-aged and older adults from the HERMEX study. This cross-sectional study utilized a food frequency questionnaire to assess food group intake and measured MD adherence using the MD Score. Sociodemographic, anthropometric, and clinical characteristics were also analyzed. Among participants, 74% were living with overweight or obesity, 69.9% were non-smokers, and 88% showed medium-high adherence to the MD. Compared to the national dietary recommendations issued by the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN), 76% had carbohydrate intake below recommended levels (average intake: 35.4%), whereas 73.5% consumed protein at 16.6% of total energy intake. Only 2% of participants adhered to the fat intake recommendation (<35% of total energy). Consumption of fruits, vegetables, cereals, potatoes, and eggs was below recommendations, while intake of legumes, nuts, fish, seafood, and dairy met or nearly met the recommendations. Meat consumption exceeded recommendations. Macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, fat, and fiber) was similar across BMI groups. However, participants with obesity consumed fewer nuts, whereas those with normal weight had a higher intake of red wine compared to individuals with overweight (p<0.05). MD adherence was similar across BMI groups (34 points on a 0-55 scale). Prevalence of overweight and obesity was high despite medium-high adherence to the MD. Overall, caloric intake and food consumption patterns were consistent across BMI groups, with notable differences in nut and red wine intake.

Wintertime stratospheric circulation in the Northern Hemisphere is dominated by a strong and persistent westerly polar vortex. However, every one to two years, this system undergoes a strong disruption associated with a fast deceleration or even a reversal, accompanied by a massive warming of the polar stratosphere. The tropospheric impacts of these extreme events, commonly referred to as “sudden stratospheric warmings” (SSWs) are well documented, but their precursors and subsequent responses in the troposphere remain frustratingly difficult to categorize systematically. Using recent advances in dynamical systems theory applied to the atmosphere, we analyze from a general point of view, the relationship between very anomalous stratospheric states and tropospheric configurations. We find that highly anomalous geopotential configurations at 10 hPa are unequivocally associated with the occurrence of a strong stratospheric vortex deceleration. However, no distinctive tropospheric patterns can be identified either prior to or following these events. This suggests that both tropospheric precursors and responses to extreme vortex decelerations are fundamentally nonspecific and in consequence, they could be statistically indistinguishable from the background tropospheric variability.

Strength training is essential to modern methods for enhancing performance, but several scientific and practical issues remain unclear. Progress in this area requires a better understanding of how strength and power adaptations affect the physiological, biomechanical, and psychological factors that support athletic performance. Improvements in force output, movement speed, and rate of force development are crucial for winning, yet the mechanisms behind these changes and how they interact with training variables need more research. This Research Topic brings together contributions that address these gaps by examining acute and chronic effects of strength and resistance training, analysing technical and neuromuscular determinants of performance, and highlighting the role of psychological and perceptual factors.A first group of studies in this collection highlights the significance of psychological

With this paper we study the itineraries that foreign travelers made through the monuments of Madrid, Toledo and Seville. For this purpose, we have selected a total of twenty-nine travel books belonging to the American Geographical Society Library of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee published between the mid-nineteenth century and the middle of the following century. The behavior of travelers from different periods is analyzed in order to know the most touristically consolidated Spanish monuments, the artistic styles preferred and the artistic terminology used. The relevance of the promenades, streets, and the Prado Museum in Madrid, of the medieval works in Seville and Toledo, the lack of appreciation of the neoclassical architecture and the absence of certain monuments are observed.

Abstract This article offers a critical review of how mainstream cinema constructs futures of AI and normalises modes of governance for those futures. Drawing on scholarship on AI narratives, socio-technical imaginaries, and film analysis, and using an illustrative and replicable corpus of nine feature films (selected from IMDb with at least 200,000 votes), the article identifies three cross-cutting patterns. First, the dystopian/cyberpunk canon in live action is linked to technopessimistic social imaginaries and has received sustained attention. Second, hybrid futures shift the grammar of threat towards coexistence, especially when AI is integrated into care/management plots and diegetic violence is contained. Third, the rebellious role of AI is associated with representations of AI as independent artificial general intelligence (AGI) and high thresholds of violence, reinforcing socio-technical imaginaries characterised by fear of machine rebellion. Overall, the article provides a sociological reading that links reception, futures, and roles, with implications for AI governance and its social implementation.

Concurrent training (CT)-the integration of strength and endurance exercises within the same session or cycle-is widely implemented in team sports. However, its optimal configuration and the conditions under which the so-called "interference effect" occurs remain subjects of debate. This narrative review critically examines the factors influencing CT efficacy in team sports, emphasizing the roles of training sequence, inter-session recovery, the endurance-training modality, and athletes' strength levels. Thirteen experimental studies involving male and female athletes from various team sports and competitive levels were analyzed. The evidence suggests that CT may effectively enhance both strength and endurance capacities when properly structured. Performing strength training before endurance training, or separating sessions by at least six hours, appears to minimize neuromuscular fatigue and preserve positive performance adaptations. Conversely, high volumes of endurance training or insufficient recovery periods tend to intensify the interference effects, particularly in speed- and power-related outcomes, which are often more pronounced in top-level athletes. Overall, CT may be a viable strategy for optimizing multiple physical qualities in team-sport environments, provided that its variables are carefully and systematically manipulated. This review also highlights the need for long-term interventions and female-specific studies to refine current practices and strengthen the evidence base in applied high-performance settings.

This paper examines the impact of a 22% minimum wage increase in Spain on January 2019 on intimate partner violence using a doubly robust difference-in-differences strategy with inverse probability weighting and the nationally representative Spanish Survey of Violence Against Women. We find no effect of the reform on physical or sexual violence. However, treated women-those with a high predicted probability of working at minimum wage jobs-experienced a 42% increase in psychological violence. Labor market analysis of survey respondents reveals that the reform led to a substitution away from female employment toward her partner's employment, reducing women's bargaining power within the household. For women whose partner is five years older, the increase in violence is not accompanied with lower female labor market engagement, providing evidence of alternative mechanisms, such as disrupted gender roles, or instrumental violence. These findings highlight unintended consequences of wage policy and highlight the need for complementary policies and services addressing the dangers of gender-based and domestic violence.
