In recent years, Reinforcement Learning (RL) algorithms have garnered significant attention for their ability to enable machines to learn and make decisions autonomously. However, amidst the excitement surrounding the potential applications of RL, it is imperative to critically examine the ethical and societal implications of these algorithms. This chapter delves into the multifaceted impact of RL on society, exploring issues such as autonomy, bias, privacy, and job displacement. Through a comprehensive analysis, it uncovers the complex interplay between technology and society, shedding light on the ethical dilemmas that arise in the deployment of RL algorithms. By unveiling the potential consequences and risks associated with RL, this chapter seeks to stimulate thoughtful discourse and inform decision-making processes aimed at fostering responsible innovation in the field of machine learning.

A presente pesquisa objectivou demonstrar a Repartição de Resultados no Comportamento Patrimonial do BAI, num horizonte temporal compreendido entre 2018 a 2022. Foi feita uma pesquisa bibliográfica, históricos e comparativos com abordagem quantitativa recorrendo a técnica de análise documental com auxílio da plataforma Excel 2010. Os resultados mostraram que houve sucessivos aumentos do património líquido do BAI em função do resultado apurado no final de cada exercício, que após deliberação da Assembleia Geral o património líquido do BAI aumentou positivamente na ordem dos AOA 43.220.382,00, (quarenta e três milhões e duzentos e vinte mil e trezentos e oitenta e dois kwanzas) através da constituição de Reservas, representando um aumento do património líquido na ordem dos 11,76%, dos resultados apurado em 2022 e distribuído aos accionistas, a maior fatia da repartição do dividendo foi para o accionista outros com 57,88% e o accionista Mário Alberto dos Santos Barber, com a menor fatia do dividendo distribuído equivalente em AOA 1.551.534.384,31 (um bilhão e quinhentos e cinquenta e um milhões e quinhentos e trinta e quatro mil e trezentos e oitenta e quatro kwanzas e trinta e um centavos). Concluiu-se que a Repartição de Resultados entre Accionistas comportou-se positivamente no património líquido do BAI através da constituição de Reservas, tendo em conta o Resultado apurado no final de cada exercício económico e da decisão do Conselho de Administração.

The impact of empathy on interpersonal communication is a very relevant topic, as empathy plays a fundamental role in the way we relate and communicate with others. When we are able to put ourselves in someone else's shoes and understand their emotions and perspectives, communication becomes more meaningful. Empathy helps us avoid conflicts, promote mutual understanding and strengthen interpersonal bonds. Analyzing existing studies on the impact of empathy on interpersonal communication is the objective of this research. To do this, we used a structured bibliographical research with criteria for the inclusion and exclusion of sources, focusing on the relevance to the topic of empathy and its influence on interpersonal communication. To theoretically clarify the study, we emphasize the theory of empathy, Carls Rogers' person-centered approach. The research results demonstrate that disorders associated with a lack of empathy significantly impair social interactions and the quality of interpersonal relationships. The study presented and challenged the current paradigm, since it is common to say that communication solves everything. However, in reality, communication without the ability to empathize is flawed and does not achieve the desired objectives.

The online crime reporting system presented in this paper is intended to make it easier for law enforcement agencies to receive secure and timely reports of criminal activity. The system's goal is to give citizens an easy-to-use interface through which they can file reports, follow the development of their cases, and, if they so choose, remain anonymous. By utilising cutting-edge technology and strong security protocols, the platform improves public-law enforcement communication, speeds up response times, and raises the overall rate of crime resolution. The online crime reporting system encourages trust and cooperation between citizens and authorities while enabling communities to actively participate in public safety initiatives through simplified procedures and accessibility

El objetivo de este trabajo es explorar las categorías de sitio de memoria y paisaje de la memoria a partir del caso del Parque de la Memoria – Monumento a las Víctimas del Terrorismo de Estado. Para esto tomaremos algunas definiciones de sitio de memoria y de paisaje y luego las pondremos en relación con las características y los elementos más importantes del Parque de la Memoria, entre los cuales podemos encontrar el Monumento con los nombres de las víctimas del terrorismo de Estado, un grupo poliescultural y el Río de la Plata, a cuyas orillas se encuentra emplazado el Parque. A partir de estos elementos y del análisis de las definiciones previamente presentadas analizaremos de qué modo el Parque puede ser pensado como un sitio de memoria y como un paisaje de la memoria, en la medida en la que constituye sentidos y presenta elementos asociados a la construcción de una memoria social y colectiva de las víctimas del terrorismo de Estado.

The purpose of this study is to examine the significance of vision, virtues and values—attributes of leadership ethos in shaping a framework to fulfill ethical duties owed by leaders. The paper begins by highlighting examples of some types of modern leadership associated with selected macro environment forces namely political, religious and cultural. It then identifies leadership ethos as a leadership perspective that can guide leaders toward fulfilling their ethical duties through vision, virtues and values as premises of trust. The study discusses compliance-based and integrity-based leadership as indication of the level of trust followers have in their leaders based on the nature of ethical duties owed by leaders. Following are four action steps for the implementation and practice of leadership ethos with a view of enhancing the fulfilment of ethical duties owed by the leaders. By incorporating the three key elements of LE (vision, virtues and values), leaders should inspire others to transcend their own self-interests in the pursuit of a higher purpose, pursue organizational excellence while honouring duties to employees/followers to keep them informed, provide them with the resources to achieve individual goals, and seek their highest potential.

This article attempts to report how Mozambicans were discursively constructed in the work domain by the Portuguese newspaper ‘O Seculo de Joanesburgo’ in the colonial period, most particularly as from 1970 to 1975. The findings, overall shows that indigenous Mozambicans are assigned menial jobs thus portrayed as providers of unskilled labour. By assigning these jobs to black people, the newspaper reinforces the point that indigenous Mozambicans lack knowledge, competence or skills to deal with jobs that required intellectual capabilities. The discourse implies that the Portuguese (morally superior) decided what kind of jobs were reserved for blacks and under what conditions they should be carried out. Ideologically, this shows white moral and intellectual superiority over blacks. Este artigo esforca-se em reportar como o povo mocambicano foi representado no ramo de trabalho no discurso do Jornal portugues ‘ O Seculo de Joanesburgo’ no tempo colonial, 1970 a 1975. Os resultados, em geral, apontam que ao povo indigena de Mocambique sao dados trabalhos de inferior caracter assim no entanto representado como trabalhadores sem competencia. Isto reforca o ponto de que o indigena mocambicano carece de conhecimento, competencia para lidar com trabalhos que requer capabilidades intelectuais. O discurso, em si, implica que o Portugues (provido de moral superior) decidia que tipo de trabalho era reservado para o povo indigena e sob que condicoes tais eram efectuadas. Ideologicamente, tal pratica mostra a superioridade moral e intelectual do branco em comparacao ao povo indigena.

Abstract This paper describes a variety of approaches used to assess the efficiency of a sample of major insurance companies in Angola between 2003 and 2012. Starting out with the bootstrapping technique, several data envelopment analysis (DEA) estimates were generated, allowing the use of confidence intervals and bias correction in central estimates to test for significant differences in efficiency levels and input‐decreasing/output‐increasing potentials. Previous studies have focused on the measurement and explanation of the factors affecting the performance rather than the prediction. The use of neural networks combined with DEA results as part of an attempt to produce a model for insurance companies’ performance with effective predictive ability is investigated. The findings indicate that older insurance companies with Portuguese origin tend to be more efficient. Results also suggest that opportunities for accommodating future demand appear to be scarce.

The discussion was based on the experiences of users from various sectors and industries. Panelists provided written statements and delivered short presentations prior to opening the session to audience discussion. The panel was designed to inform and drive research and development plans to fill these needs.</div>

CAD/CAM/CAE applications often deal with open or closed shells of faces (surfaces). Each face has it’s own 2-D parameter space that may not be rectangular. In many applications we need to merge the individual parameter spaces into a single global parameter space that resembles the model shape in the 3-D physical space. In this paper, we present a method of building such shape-preserving global parameterization (of a shell of faces) that is suitable for CAD/CAM/CAE applications.
