The Influence of Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) Storage on the Physicochemical Attributes of Dried Chili
Abstract Drying is a conventional postharvest method for the preservation of red chili pepper ( Capsicum annuum L .). Modified Atmospheric Packaging (MAP) is proposed in the packaging process to improve the quality of dried chili product. Then, the effect on physiochemical properties of dried chili due to MAP by variation in packaging type and oxygen concentration is analysed in this study. The packaging types were polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and embossed nylon (EN) plastics whilst oxygen concentrations were varied 0%, 10-11%, and 20.8% in the MAP. All packaged samples were stored at room temperature and 70% relative humidity. Then, physicochemical measurements were performed every 10 days. Measured parameters such as weight loss, colour, water content, pH value, water activity, and vitamin C were analysed by (One-way ANOVA), and followed by Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that variation in packaging type and oxygen concentration had a significant effect on the physical and chemical properties of dried chilies except for the vitamin C content. Furthermore, products packed in PP plastics and treated with lower oxygen concentration gave the best results in the packaging process of dried chili.
Read moreThe Role of Social Support Systems in Preventing Recurrent Suicide Attempts
Gunungkidul Regency is one of the regions in Indonesia known to have a relatively high rate of suicide, with a tendency for individuals who have previously attempted suicide to be at significant risk of repeating the behavior. This study aims to explore the role of social support systems in preventing the recurrence of suicide attempts among individuals who have previously attempted suicide. The study employed a qualitative approach involving five respondents, all of whom had a history of suicide attempts and were in a recovery phase at the time of the research. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings show that all respondents consistently identified social support—particularly from family, peers, and the community—as a key factor in sustaining their will to live and reducing the urge to repeat suicidal behavior. Social support operates through mechanisms such as strengthening life meaning, reducing social isolation, and enhancing a sense of belonging and social connectedness. These findings underscore the importance of family- and community-based suicide prevention approaches in socially vulnerable areas such as Gunungkidul.

Abstract — The production of citronella in the Giring forest area involves Women’s Farmer Groups (KWT) and Forest Farmer Groups (KTH), who cultivate the plant in large quantities. Through an experimental approach, a simple essential oil distillation unit was constructed, followed by a production trial. The trial resulted in the extraction of crude essential oil with economic value. This activity has provided direct benefits to KWT and KTH by enhancing their knowledge and skills in processing citronella into essential oil, while also creating new opportunities to increase income and improve the local community’s economy. Keywords — production of citronella, Women’s Farmer Groups (KWT), Forest Farmer Groups (KTH), crude essential oil, community’s economy.
Read morePhysicochemical characteristics, pasting behaviors and production cost of pre-soaked soybean and corn flours from local and improved varieties for supporting local food utilization
Flour production from soybeans and corn is a promising strategy to increase their use as local ingredients in diverse food applications. In this study, local and improved varieties of soybean and corn seeds collected from Sumenep, Indonesia, were subjected to soaking pretreatments for 0, 24, 48, and 72 h prior to flour production. The resulting flours were characterized for their physicochemical and pasting properties and evaluated regarding their production cost. The results showed that variety and soaking time significantly affected the physicochemical properties of soybean and corn flours (p < 0.05). Longer soaking time reduced the bulk density and increased the whiteness of soybean and corn flours, except for the local corn variety, which was similar to the control (0 h). The yield increased for corn flour, while it decreased for soybean flour. Greater yield values were obtained for improved varieties relative to local varieties. The fat, protein, and amylose contents of both flours increased along with soaking time; however, ash and carbohydrate contents decreased. The pasting behaviors showed that soybean flours were hardly gelatinized, with no detectable peak viscosity at any soaking time. Conversely, corn flours gelatinized at a range of 72.35–75.65 ℃, with the highest values noted for 0-h soaking. Soaking for 24 h resulted in the highest peak viscosity, with values of 303.33 cP for the local Sumenep and 201.67 cP for HJ 21. A soaking pretreatment for 24 h was likely suitable for soybean seed, while corn required a longer (48 h) period. The economic analysis showed that home-scale production was feasible and profitable to be developed in the study area, with B/C ratios of 1.11–1.14 for soybean flour and 1.40–1.45 for corn flour.

Read moreThe effectiveness of the TGFU approach in increasing student engagement in physical education lessons
Background and Study Aim. Physical education contributes to students’ physical, social, and emotional development. Traditional teaching approaches, however, often emphasize repetitive drills that fail to sustain students’ interest and participation. Although innovative models such as the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGFU) approach are increasingly applied in schools, their relative effectiveness in enhancing motivation and engagement remains of practical interest. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the TGFU approach in increasing student participation, motivation, and engagement in physical education. Materials and Methods. The study followed the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) protocol. The process consisted of four stages: database search, screening, eligibility assessment, and inclusion. Relevant publications were identified through searches in Taylor & Francis, Scopus, and the Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute using predefined keywords related to the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGFU) approach. The initial search yielded 187 papers. After screening 162 titles and abstracts, 98 papers were excluded for not meeting the inclusion criteria. Fifty-seven full texts were reviewed, and 15 studies were finally included in the analysis. Data from these studies were summarized to identify trends and evaluate the effectiveness of TGFU-based learning strategies. Results. The analysis showed that both the TGFU approach and hybrid models such as TGFU/SE and TGFU/TPSR contributed to improvements in students’ physical fitness, sport-specific skills, and participation levels. The reviewed studies also indicated positive effects on motivation, decision-making, and enjoyment in physical education settings. Conclusions. The findings suggest that the TGFU approach supports students’ physical, cognitive, and affective development. Nevertheless, its successful implementation depends on careful planning, adequate teacher preparation, and ongoing support. Broader and longer-term studies are recommended to confirm the consistency and generalizability of these results.
Read moreDeterminants of Health-Seeking Behaviour for Leprosy Among High-Risk Populations in Gunungkidul District, Indonesia: A Community-Based Cross-Sectional Study.
Indonesia ranks third globally in leprosy burden, with 9.2% of new 2023 cases presenting with Grade 2 disabilities (G2D), indicating delayed detection. Gunungkidul District continues to exhibit high G2D rates despite ongoing screening programs. This study examined the determinants of health-seeking behaviour among leprosy contacts, a high-risk population with a 5- to 13-fold higher risk of developing G2D. A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted across all 13 sub-districts of Gunungkidul District (February-March 2025). Stratified random sampling enrolled 264 leprosy contacts. Structured interviews assessed knowledge, attitudes, perceived effectiveness of leprosy treatment, family support, healthcare worker support, accessibility to healthcare services and stigma. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate and multivariate logistic regression. Results are presented as adjusted odds ratios (aORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Among the 264 participants (mean age 46.5 years; 63.3% female), most were of productive age (18-59 years, 79.2%) and had completed at least junior high school. Homemakers formed the largest occupational group (42.1%). Only 30.7% of contacts reported appropriate health-seeking behaviour. Multivariate analysis identified three key predictors of health-seeking behaviour: perceptions of leprosy treatment, accessibility to healthcare services and stigma. Favourable perceptions (aOR = 3.60; 95% CI: 1.90-6.80; p < 0.001), good accessibility (aOR = 2.46; 95% CI: 1.29-4.37; p = 0.006) and low stigma (aOR = 5.74; 95% CI: 3.03-10.87; p < 0.001) were strongly associated with health-seeking behaviour. Addressing social stigma, improving healthcare accessibility and promoting positive perceptions of leprosy treatment are crucial to encouraging health-seeking behaviour. These findings highlight the need for targeted public health interventions to enhance early detection and treatment, particularly among high-risk groups such as leprosy contacts.
