This study presents a comprehensive syntactical analysis of the potential form (Kanoukei) in Japanese, examining its structural patterns and pedagogical implications. The research employed a qualitative, library-based methodology to systematically analyze conjugation rules and syntactic structures across different verb groups and sentence types. The findings reveal that Kanoukei follows predictable patterns: godan doushi undergoes phonological changes (-u to -eru), ichidan doushi adds -rareru, and fukisoku doushi demonstrates irregular but consistent forms. Crucially, the study identifies the obligatory particle shift from を (o) to が (ga) as a fundamental syntactical restructuring that signifies a cognitive shift from action-oriented to capability-focused expressions. The analysis supports Shibatani's (1990) theoretical framework regarding the historical evolution of Kanoukei from passive constructions, explaining its unique grammatical position that bridges voice modification and modality expression. The research demonstrates Kanoukei's consistent implementation across affirmative, negative, and interrogative sentence structures, confirming its grammatical stability in Japanese syntax. From a pedagogical perspective, the study provides a structured framework for teaching Kanoukei, which is particularly beneficial for Indonesian learners who face challenges due to linguistic differences between Japanese and their native language. The findings provide educators with evidence-based strategies for transforming Kanoukei instruction from rote memorization to conceptual understanding, potentially reducing common errors and enhancing learning outcomes. This research makes a significant contribution to Japanese language pedagogy while establishing a replicable methodology for analyzing other complex grammatical structures.

This study examines Indonesia’s halal certification as both a legal instrument and an economic policy with direct implications for international trade. Using a normative juridical approach combined with qualitative economic analysis, it explores Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance (UUJPH) and its application to meat import policies, particularly in the aftermath of WTO disputes DS477/478. Halal certification is framed as a fundamental necessity for Indonesia’s Muslim majority and as a legitimate objective under Article XX(a) of the GATT 1994, which protects public morals. The findings highlight two strategic dimensions of the policy: first, consumer protection and the enforcement of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah through traceable ingredients and production processes; second, its role as an economic tool to enhance product competitiveness, expand international market access, and strengthen Indonesia’s position within the global halal supply chain. However, significant challenges persist. Domestically, limited legal literacy, certification costs, and the constrained capacity of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) hinder certification uptake. Internationally, mandatory halal certification is sometimes perceived as an additional technical barrier to trade, sparking trade disputes. Analysis of GATT 1994 Articles III and XI and TBT Agreement Articles 2.2 and 2.4 underscores the need for Indonesia’s policy to avoid unjustifiable discrimination and unnecessary trade restrictions. The study concludes that harmonizing the protection of public morals with multilateral trade commitments is essential. Policy recommendations include revising the UUJPH to align with international standards, strengthening the Halal Product Assurance Agency’s capacity, providing incentives and support for MSMEs, and expanding mutual recognition agreements with key trading partners. With evidence-based, transparent, and inclusive policies, Indonesia can reinforce its role as a global halal industry hub while safeguarding its trade reputation and balancing religious values with international trade obligations.

Water is one of the most essential elements in human life, widely utilized for consumption, hygiene, and other daily needs. In Indonesia, water sources are generally categorized into two types: piped water distribution systems and non-piped sources. Piped water is managed and distributed by clean water utility companies through plumbing systems equipped with water meters to measure customer usage. This study presents a system designed to assist water utility companies in remotely monitoring customer water usage in real-time using Internet of Things (IoT) technology, without requiring each household to have its own Wi-Fi network. The system collects water flow data using the YF-S201 water flow sensor connected to an ESP32 microcontroller. It utilizes Espressif Mesh Networking Protocol (ESP-MESH) technology to implement a Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) as the local communication protocol between sensor nodes, eliminating the need for internet connectivity. The ESP-MESH network supports self-configuration and self-healing capabilities, simplifying the deployment and maintenance of each node. Once data is collected locally, it is transmitted to an Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) broker via a gateway using the SX1276 Long Range (LoRa) module, which enables long-range communication to cover a broader area. The data published to the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) broker is then subscribed to and visualized through a dashboard built using the Node-Red platform. The results show that the system has an average water volume measurement error rate of 6.73% and an average data transmission latency from the sensor node to the gateway of 3029.8 ms over a distance of up to 50 meters.
