Frame Theory - an Analytical Lens for Political Discourse

The discourse analysis lens applying frames as a research method is provided by cognitive pragmatics. We analyze the evolution of the frame concept of discursive event with application to political discourse: problem, conflict, scandal, activism, social movement. Frames, mental structures, involving selection and salience, but also omission, obscuring, called "interpretive packages", configure our perception of events. Discourse event frames contain schematized elements with preferred grammatical structures, style, cultural usage but also stereotypes, ideology, propaganda. We present a case study on frame alignment strategies applied to a political movement. The diffusion of frames according to the cascading network activation model brings us a considerable contribution to the understanding of denigration and deformation campaigns. In order to illustrate the dimensions and evolution of a frame, we studied the concept of militancy ‒ action-oriented, mobilization, deconspiracy of injustice.
