Measurement of Human Milk Feeding Knowledge, Attitudes, Beliefs, and Self-Efficacy Among Women From Underrepresented Racial and Ethnic Populations: A Systematic Review.
Background and Purpose: Human milk feeding inequities persist among women from underrepresented racial and ethnic populations in the United States. Knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and self-efficacy influence human milk feeding practices. This review evaluates the measurement properties of instruments assessing these variables among underrepresented populations. Methods: A systematic review from CINAHL, MEDLINE, and PsycINFO databases evaluated instruments assessing breastfeeding variables among women from underrepresented racial and ethnic populations. Results: Fifteen instruments were assessed. The Iowa Infant Feeding Attitude Scale (IIFAS) and Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form (BSES-SF) had moderate to strong psychometric scores (α = .67-.86; .79-.96). Conclusions: While several instruments assess human milk feeding variables in underrepresented populations, IIFAS and BSES-SF show the strongest evidence. More culturally appropriate instruments are needed.

This article draws on experiential learning theory to develop an ethical dilemma-resolution teaching method. This teaching method uses LEGO bricks as a medium to model the scenario for the students. The interchangeability of LEGO bricks, in combination with this teaching method, will allow students to experiment with resolution ideas to predict stakeholder impacts. Using experiential learning methods, such as this one, allows students to simulate experiences with ethical dilemmas without the cost to stakeholders in the actual business environment.

Yeast gene of unknown function YGL081W is involved in DNA damage response.
This study aimed to better characterize gene of unknown function YGL081W in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Bioinformatic analysis revealed that YGL081W possesses a forkhead associated (FHA) domain, known to be involved in DNA repair and cell cycle arrest. Furthermore, YGL081W was predicted to interact with genes involved in cell cycle regulation and its expression changed during mitotic stress. YGL081W knockout cells grew modestly better than wild type under normal growth conditions, grew significantly less than wild type when exposed to UV light, and grew no differently than wild type in the presence of hydroxyurea. Collectively, these data suggest YGL081W is involved in mediating the DNA damage response in S. cerevisiae.
Read moreFitness Facilities And Tactical Occupations: Is It Necessary To Have An On-site Exercise Facility?
PURPOSE: Many firefighting departments spend from their limited budget to provide exercise opportunities for their members. The primary purpose was to assess if weekly exercise energy expenditure (EE) was impacted by whether or not the firefighters’ department required them to perform a minimum amount of exercise per shift. The secondary purpose was to assess if EE was impacted by whether or not the firefighting department provided an on-site exercise facility or paid for a membership at a local fitness club. METHODS: 51 participants (46 M, 5F) who are currently full-time members of career firefighting departments were sent an online survey through Qualtrics (Provo, UT) to self-report their daily exercise and nutrition habits. The survey included questions related to exercise habits over the previous two weeks as well as the exercise facilities and programs provided to the participant by their fire department where they are a registered member. RESULTS: 44 total participants completed the study. 20 participants reported that their department required exercise to be performed during their shift (ranged from 30-60 minutes) and 24 reported that exercise was not required to be completed during their shift. No significant differences in overall EE were exhibited between groups (t = 0.637, p = .264). 39 participants reported that their department provided an on-site fitness facility/gym to exercise in and 5 reported that their department provided a paid membership to a local health club. No significant differences in overall EE were exhibited between groups (t = 0.933, p = .178). CONCLUSIONS: Based on these preliminary results, it does not appear that on-shift exercise requirement or providing an on-site exercise facility significantly improved EE. It will be important to determine what monetary costs are being spent on buying and/or constructing an on-site exercise-specific facility versus what the cost is to provide a membership to a local fitness facility. Therefore, future studies should look closely at performing a monetary cost-benefit analysis of buying their own equipment versus paying for their members to have access to a local fitness facility.
Read moreDetermine Intraday Trading Currency's Trend Framework Evidence From Machine Learning Techniques
The purpose of this study is to determine the intraday hourly trading trends of currencies using predictive modeling techniques. The study encompasses two distinct intraday time intervals of 30 minutes and 1 hour, analyzing currencies from 8 different countries. It incorporates the use of wavelets MODWT to identify trends and noise in intraday currency analysis. Three predictive models, namely Support Vector Regression, Recurrent Neural Network, and Long Short-Term Memory, are applied to relative time series data to predict intraday trading currency trends. The study reveals significant noise presence in three currencies based on MODWT analysis. Additionally, it demonstrates that deep learning techniques, such as LSTM, outperform traditional machine learning approaches in accurately predicting intraday currency trends. This study contributes substantially to the theoretical understanding of international finance and provides practical insights for real-time problem-solving in currency markets. Further, this research adds to the discourse on leveraging sophisticated analytical methods within the domain of business intelligence to enhance decision-making processes in organizations operating within dynamic and complex financial environments.

Higher levels of resilience is associated with improved pain outcomes in chronic pain and other neurological populations, but the role of resilience in pain following spinal cord injury (SCI) remains unclear. This study examined resilience as a moderator in the relationship between perceived stress and both pain intensity and interference during acute rehabilitation for SCI. Individuals admitted to inpatient rehabilitation acutely following SCI (N = 57) completed measures of perceived stress, resilience, pain intensity, and interference. The Johnson-Neyman procedure was used to examine significance of conditional relationships that emerged. Resilience was found to moderate the relationship between perceived stress and pain interference, but not pain intensity, during inpatient rehabilitation. When resilience is low, perceived stress has a more profound and adverse impact on pain interference during inpatient rehabilitation, suggesting therapeutic strategies that build components of resilience are needed during acute rehabilitation following SCI. The relationship between stress, resilience, and pain may differ postinpatient rehabilitation for SCI and warrants further investigation. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved).
Read moreUsing AR to Teach AR: Learning Outcomes of a Guided, Augmented Reality Hearing Loss and Auditory Rehabilitation Simulation with SLP Graduate Students
Recent research has found that practicing speech-language pathologists report feeling underprepared to provide services for individuals with hearing loss. At the same time, graduate SLP programs report that students have fewer training opportunities with low-incidence populations. This study examines learning outcomes for a cohort of graduate SLP students using a novel application of an immersive, augmented reality, hearing loss simulation. Results show encouraging outcomes for the simulation experience’s effects on empathy, knowledge, and clinical skills. This simulation offers a unique way to provide training related to auditory rehabilitation in SLP.
