The sustainable cultivation of organic vegetables and the associated problem of weed control has been a current research topic for some time. Despite this, the use of chemical and synthetic pesticides increases every year. This is to be solved with the help of an automated robot system. The current version of the weeding robot uses GPUs to execute the inference phase. This requires a lot of energy for an 8-track robot. To enable autonomous solar operation, the system must be made more energy efficient. This work aims to evaluate possible approaches and the current state of research on implementing convolution neural networks on low power embedded systems. In the course of the work, the technical feasibility for the implementation of CNNs in FPGAs was examined, in particular, following the example of a feasibility analysis. This paper shows that the acceleration of convolution neural networks using FPGAs is technically feasible for use as detection hardware in the weeding robot. With the help of the current state of research and the existing literature, the optimization possibilities of the hardware and software have been evaluated. The trials of different networks on different hardware accelerators with diverse approaches were investigated and compared.

In today’s asset management world, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) play a crucial role. When reviewing their performance against the benchmark, it is often assumed that any excess returns are normally distributed. The aim of this article is to check the assumption of normal distribution for excess returns for ETFs. The authors show that for a considerable number of ETFs this assumption does not hold true. Furthermore, the authors show how false assumptions regarding the distribution of the excess returns might affect the risk estimation with respect to the excess returns.

The paper presents the results of Wind Power Plant (WPP) influence during its integration to the electrical grid of110 kV and higher, as well as the help of Power System Stabilizer (PSS) to the power system. Providing stability is the most important aspect in the electric power industry, especially when renewable energy sources (RES), in particular WPPs are integrated. When integrating a large amount of RES into the power system, there are challenges for the System Operator associated with generation instability and undamped low-frequency oscillations (LFO). The aim of this work is to study the impact of WPPs integration into traditional power system considering the standards and requirements and the use of PSS in the power system to prevent LFO during WPP integration. The object of the study is an installed WPP in the Almaty region with a capacity of 60 MW. WPP with DFIG type connection to the grid. Rotor-angle stability, small signal stability, voltage stability of the electrical system during the integration of the WPP was carried out. It should be noted that when integrating WPPs into electrical networks without revising the existing PSS at traditional power plants, the oscillatory stability of the power system may decrease.

ABSTRACT While an increase in risk sensitivity for travel in times of crisis has been widely studied, attention to changes in the perception of travel motives as a possible counterpart have fallen short. Hence, the research submitted here explores the interplay of negative and positive psychological reactions towards travel during the Covid-19 pandemic, taking three Northern European countries as an example. Data was collected via online consumer panels in Finland, Germany, and Norway (n = 4,649) during the first lockdown in May 2020. We identify tourist segments based on their perceptions of travel risk and the importance of travel for their own well-being. K-means cluster analysis reveals five different pandemic-related clusters that exemplify individual travel plans for the near future, their personal affectedness and sociodemographic aspects, such as nationalities. Results show that a high level of perceived importance of travel for well-being can offset a simultaneous high perception of travel risk: ‘Fearful travel lovers’ make travel plans despite the pandemic. Moreover, we find significant differences regarding the size of the five segments in the three countries. Findings provide important strategic implications for tourism managers seeking how to address relevant tourist groups in times of pandemics.
