Progress of the Chemical Composition and Pharmacological Activities ofPodocarpus nagi
Podocarpus nagi is a type of macrophanerophyte in the genus Podocarpus, belonging to the family Podocarpaceae. Its roots, branches, leaves, and seeds are rich in various chemical components, including nagilactones, flavonoids, steroids, diterpenoids, lignans, fatty acids, and sugars, which contribute to a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities, such as antioxidant, antitumor, and anti-inflammatory effects, and protection of the blood and nervous systems. It has long been used as a medicinal herb in Yao folk medicine for the treatment of trauma, bleeding, fractures, fox odor, eye diseases, colds, and other conditions. In this work, we comprehensively summarize the progress in the chemical composition and pharmacological activities of Podocarpus nagi, providing a reference for its further development.

Experimental Study on HSS Model Parameters of Marine Sandy Soils in the Zhangpu Coastal Area
In recent decades, with the rapid development of offshore wind energy resources, the stability of wind turbine foundations has dramatically attracted attention. Offshore wind turbine foundations are subjected to long-term complex cyclic loads, necessitating strict control of vibration frequencies and foundation deformations, particularly considering the non-linear stiffness characteristics of soils within small strains deformation analysis. The Hardening Soil with Small Strain Stiffness (HSS) model, capable of effectively seizing such non-linear changes, has been widely employed in offshore wind turbines foundation deformation analysis However, the model requires multiple parameters, with limited study on parameters for sandy soils. In this study, key parameters for the HSS model were obtained via a series of laboratory tests such as one-dimensional consolidation tests, triaxial consolidation drained tests, triaxial consolidation drained loading-unloading tests, and bender element tests. The correlations among parameters were analyzed, and the experimental results were compared with relevant literature, particularly focusing on differences in modulus parameters between sandy and clayey soils. Based on these results, preliminary recommendations are provided for determining HSS model parameters in marine soils in this region.
Read moreEffects of Astragalus Polysaccharide and Isatis indigotica Extract Synergy on the Antioxidant Status, Inflammation, Autophagy, Apoptosis, and Intestinal Health of Larimichthys crocea Juveniles
This research aimed to examine the combined influence of Astragalus polysaccharide (APS) and Isatis indigotica extract (IIE) dietary supplements on oxidative-inflammatory status, cellular homeostasis, and intestinal integrity in large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea). Three replicates of experimental fish (n = 160) received one of five dietary regimens: a basal control (CON) diet, the CON diet containing 0.1% APS (AP), and the AP diet supplemented with 0.05%, 0.1%, and 0.15% IIE (AI1, AI2, and AI3) for 8 weeks. The combined supplements, particularly in the AI2 group, significantly improved intestinal morphology and enhanced the activities of key digestive enzymes. Gene expression analysis revealed that the APS-IIE combination consistently upregulated the intestinal mRNA abundance of major tight junction proteins (CLDN4, OCLN, ZO1, ZO2) compared to the CON or AP groups. Liver antioxidant capacity was strengthened (enhanced CAT capacity), as evidenced by a significant reduction in lipid peroxidation (MDA) levels. In the head kidney, the combination downregulated the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL8, TNF) and toll-like receptors (TLR1, TLR2, TLR5), and promoted the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL10, TGFB1). Furthermore, dietary supplementation modulated the crosstalk between autophagy and apoptosis, indicated by altered expression of key marker genes (e.g., increased MAP1LC3B and decreased CASP3/8/9). In conclusion, the simultaneous inclusion of APS and IIE in diets promotes intestinal health, strengthens antioxidant status, and alleviates inflammatory responses, with the 0.1% APS + 0.1% IIE (AI2) formulation demonstrating the most pronounced benefits.
Read moreThe profound impact of COVID-19 on college students’ physical fitness
BackgroundThis study expands existing research by examining longitudinal impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on medical college students’ physical fitness.MethodsA medical college in Wenzhou, was selected to examine the changes in physical fitness indicators among students from 2019 to 2021.ResultsWhile most students maintained normal weight status (85.2%), overweight/obese prevalence increased significantly (8.0% in 2019, 8.9% in 2020, and 10.1% in 2021). Among male students, 67.0% were classified within the passing range, while the majority of female students (55.0%) fell within the “good” grade category. In 2021, a significant decline was observed in the standing long jump, 50-m dash, and 1,000/800 m run (p < 0.05) across both genders.ConclusionsThe lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have significantly contributed to increased weight gain among college students and a decline in their endurance running performance.
Read moreA comparative study of machine learning methods for predicting mode I and II brittle fracture in notched bend specimens
This study evaluates the efficacy of statistical, artificial neural network (ANN), and deep learning (DL) methods in developing mathematical models for estimating dimensionless fracture parameters in single-edge notched bend (SENB) specimens under Mode I/II brittle fracture conditions. The research focuses on this specimen, a commonly used configuration in fracture mechanics studies. The primary objective is to benchmark the accuracy, computational efficiency, and generalization capabilities of various modelling approaches, including linear regression, polynomial regression, Random Forest Regression (RFR), and Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) networks. The study leverages a comprehensive dataset encompassing various geometric configurations and loading conditions to develop predictive models for key fracture parameters such as YI, YII, and T*. The results shows that regression methods are insufficient for capturing the complex, non-linear relationships inherent in fracture mechanics. RFR demonstrated superior accuracy with training R² values of 0.99 (YI) and 0.99 (YII), and validation R² values of 0.93(YI), 0.96 (YII), and 0.99 (T*). BiLSTM also performed robustly, achieving validation R² values of 0.99 (YI), 0.96 (YII), and 0.99 (T*). In contrast, simple regression methods like multiple linear regression (MLR) and polynomial regression (PR) showed limited effectiveness, with R² values as low as 0.44 (MLR) and 0.57 (PR) for YI.

Exegesis and English translation of acupoint name
The acupoint name is a core term in traditional Chinese medicine and has its own mysterious and abstruse feature. Designated by the international organizations such as World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, World Health Organization, the phonetic translation method has been adopted for the standardization of acupuncture nomenclature. But this method neglects the cultural attributes of acupoint names. The liberal translation should be considered appropriately. English translation of acupoint name should be composed of two steps, intralingual translation (exegesis) and interlingual translation. During exegesis, the methods for discriminating phonetic loan character, selecting meanings and identifying character patterns should be sufficiently used. The interlingual translation is launched only after the fully understanding of acupoint names (based on intralingual translation).
