Climate change is intensifying summertime heat exposure across Europe, with growing implications not only for physical human health but also for population mental well-being. However, heat-health research has focused mainly on the physical outcomes of heat exposure; mental health impacts remain underexplored. In particular, spatially and temporally explicit analyses that capture variation in heat exposure across diverse regions are scarce, limiting the systematic identification and monitoring of vulnerable populations. Switzerland serves as a suitable case study for addressing this gap, given its pronounced warming trends and environmental heterogeneity, while the underlying analytical approach is transferable to other countries and regions. This study investigates the relationship between heat and mental health outcomes in Switzerland by integrating population health survey data with satellite data-based heat metrics in a spatially and temporally explicit framework. The study is grounded in a heat-mental health risk framework linking thermal hazard, spatiotemporal exposure, and demographic vulnerability. Individual-level mental health data from the Swiss Health Survey (a comprehensive national health survey conducted in 2007, 2012, 2017, and 2022) are combined with high-resolution land surface temperature (LST) derived from MODIS Aqua as the primary heat exposure indicator, alongside gridded near-surface air temperature for comparison and benchmarking. The temperature metrics are designed to represent environmental heat load rather than single-day extremes. Mental health is expressed through multiple standardised indices capturing psychological burden, vitality, depressive symptoms, and anxiety. To account for spatiotemporal dependencies, we apply hierarchical Bayesian ordinal regression models that also serve as predictive models for scenario-analysis.Results indicate that higher LST is generally associated with poorer mental health outcomes across Switzerland, with the strongest and most credible associations observed during the exceptionally hot summer of 2022. We also found that LST-based models outperform air-temperature-based models, which indicates the added value of thermal remote sensing in heat-health studies across spatially heterogenous areas. Spatial analyses reveal pronounced regional and urban-rural gradients in both heat exposure and baseline mental health, while demographic factors such as age and biological sex exhibit substantial variation in mental health vulnerability but do not significantly modify the heat-mental health relationship itself.By integrating remote sensing, climatological data, and population health records, this study demonstrates a scalable interdisciplinary approach for assessing climate-sensitive mental health risks across space and time. It provides a foundation for integrating mental health into climate adaption, heat warning systems, and spatially targeted public health planning.

Abstract Objective This article investigates the prevalence of and factors associated with parenthood regret in Switzerland. Background There is increasing evidence that parenthood regrets occur both in mothers and fathers, but little is known about their causes and how they relate to gendered norms and conditions of parenthood. Method Based on a representative nationwide sample (1,923 women and 1,461 men), this study used the crosswise‐model design to address the sensitive question of parenthood regrets. The analysis is based on logistic regression models that are guided by directed acyclic graphs. Results An equal share (29%) of women and men at least sometimes regret parenthood. Fathers who view children as a source of reputation regret parenthood more often. Fathers who view children as a source of new ideas are less likely to regret parenthood. For mothers, circumstances, in particular age and relationship quality, are more important factors. Conclusion Mothers and fathers experience parenthood regret at similar rates. Although conditions of parenthood are especially important for mothers, fathers are more impacted by norms surrounding parenthood. Implications Family policies should focus on improving parenting conditions by addressing financial and caregiving burdens and specifically support men in strengthening their ability to make informed and intentional parenting decisions.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a leading cause of global morbidity and mortality, affecting one in ten Swiss adults. Patient numbers are expected to increase due to demographic shift and increasing comorbidity rates, necessitating strategic healthcare planning. Holistic burden remains unknown and detailed projections-including expectations of prospective economic and environmental impact-are lacking. To inform Switzerland's public health strategies and support its 2050 net-zero healthcare goal, this study aims to forecast the multidimensional burdens of CKD. The IMPACT-CKD microsimulation model was utilised to project CKD-progression and clinical, healthcare resource utilisation, economic, societal, and environmental outcomes in Switzerland over 10years (2023-2032). Modelled individuals were assigned CKD-relevant characteristics-including kidney function, comorbidities and clinical events-based on real-world data. Individuals were categorised into non-CKD or one of six CKD stages and progressed through the disease, diagnosed or undiagnosed. Model inputs and outcomes were validated and calibrated against literature, real-world evidence, and expert consultation. By 2032, IMPACT-CKD projects Switzerland's cases of CKD to rise by 6.7% (0.96m to 1.03m) with late-stage CKD and kidney replacement therapy (KRT) surging by 18.1% (437k to 516k) and 57.2% (8.4k to 13.2k). CKD-related healthcare costs are projected to increase by 27.6% (Swiss francs [CHF] 3.3b to CHF4.2b), driven by a 77.3% rise KRT-related costs. CKD would account for 4.6% of the Swiss healthcare budget, incur CHF12.9b in lost productivity, 43.2m missed workdays and CHF606m in lost tax revenue. Greenhouse gas emissions are projected to increase by 12.9%, driven by rising dialysis demand. IMPACT-CKD projects substantial increases in the multidimensional burdens of CKD in Switzerland. Impact could be mitigated via earlier detection and broader uptake of guideline-directed medical therapy. Comprehensive health policies and strategic public health planning are necessary to reduce burden and sustain Switzerland's 2050 net-zero healthcare ambition.

ABSTRACTInterfaces between magnetic and non‐magnetic materials play a crucial role in various magnetic heterostructures. The emergence of 2D van der Waals (vdW) magnets has introduced new opportunities for exploring proximity effects in vdW heterostructures. While the influence of magnetic layers on nearby non‐magnetic materials has been widely studied, it remains unclear whether non‐magnetic substrates can similarly modulate the intrinsic magnetic properties of 2D magnets, particularly their magnetic anisotropy. In this work, by analyzing X‐ray magnetic circular dichroism spectra of an epitaxially grown FeCl2 monolayer on a Bi(111) surface, a reorientation of magnetic anisotropy is observed – from its natural out‐of‐plane to a predominantly in‐plane alignment. This effect vanishes in bilayer FeCl2/Bi(111), where the magnetic anisotropy reverts to its intrinsic out‐of‐plane orientation, consistent with the layered antiferromagnetic order of bulk FeCl2. Angle‐resolved photoelectron spectroscopy reveals the presence of metallic interface states derived from the Bi surface states, accompanied by charge transfer and emergence of a moiré potential that gives rise to a distinctive trefoil‐shaped Fermi surface. These results demonstrate that non‐magnetic substrates can exert strong proximity influence on the magnetic and electronic behavior of 2D vdW magnets, offering new strategies for engineering magnetic anisotropy and electronic structure in spintronic heterostructures.

In 19, 18 and 11 BCE, Augustus rejected the extraordinary position of a curator legum et morum maxima potestate. According to his own statement in R. gest. div. Aug. 6.1, he instead took care of the commonwealth’s pressing issues at the time through his tribunicia potestas, while allegedly being checked by his peers in power. This paper examines the extent to which the mentioned cura is comparable to the position of a rector rei publicae outlined by Cicero and how the dismissal of this position should be interpreted against the backdrop of the gradual establishment of the Principate under Augustus.

Immersive virtual reality (IVR) is a rapidly evolving technology that has the potential to enhance learning. Recent experimental studies report higher learning gains in IVR environments compared to other VR types or analog teaching methods. However, effect sizes vary significantly, suggesting that IVR's effectiveness may be constrained by moderators related to IVR affordances (presence and agency), underlying motivational and cognitive factors, individual characteristics (age, prior knowledge of curriculum content), and IVR instructional setting. To address this issue, we conducted a PRISMA-guided systematic review of randomized controlled and quasi-experimental studies with K–6 learners across four databases (PsycINFO, PubMed, Web of Science, ERIC). Twenty-four studies were included. We analyzed IVR's effects on content-dependent knowledge acquisition and transfer, considering IVR affordances of agency and presence, underlying motivational and cognitive factors, and potential differential effects related to individual characteristics and IVR instructional setting (e.g. scaffolding measures). Results suggest that IVR can effectively enhance knowledge acquisition and transfer for K-6 learners, outperforming both analog teaching methods and non-immersive VR. These gains appear to be partially driven by increased agency and presence, as well as modulations in motivational and cognitive factors. However, contrary to previous evidence, individual characteristics such as age and prior knowledge do not consistently moderate IVR's effects on learning. Preliminary evidence further highlights the importance of instructional settings, particularly the inclusion of reflective activities and scaffolding measures. To maximize the potential of IVR in education, further research should systematically examine the individual and interactive effects of IVR affordances, cognitive and motivational factors, and instructional design. • Immersive virtual reality (IVR) enhances knowledge acquisition and transfer for primary school learners across various subjects. • IVR-dependent knowledge gains are partially driven by increased agency and presence, and modulations in motivational and cognitive factors. • Reflective activities and scaffolding appear to optimize learning in IVR environments. • IVR-dependent learning outcomes in the K-6 range seem unaffected by age or prior knowledge of curriculum content.
