Abstract

Purpose of the research was to compare the state of modern high-performance athletics in three post-Soviet republics, whose coaching schools and athletes were the basis for the development of athletics in the Soviet Union. Research methods. The study was conducted based on the official reports of World Athletics [1,3,4] and the websites Olympedia.org [6,7] and Wikipedia.org [5,8] for the period from 1993 to 2024. The total number of prize places of representatives of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus in each type of men's and women's athletics program was determined based on the results of 8 Olympic Games and 16 World Championships. Research results. Over the years of independence, Russian athletes have won 257 medals, Ukraine - 63 and Belarus - 62. At the same time, women's athletics in all 3 countries has developed much more successfully than men's, the number of women's prize places is 66%, against 34% for men. We can talk about the preservation of the structure of success by types, which was observed during the USSR times with the predominance of a greater number of prize winners in technical types over running. In Russia during the noted period, walking, vertical jumps for men and all jumping types for women developed most successfully. Among Belarusian track and field athletes, the main success is in throwing, while in the Ukrainian school of track and field, certain types of jumps and throws are also considered the most successful. At the same time, all types of the running programs for men are the weakest link in post-Soviet athletics. Conclusion. Despite the objective difficulties of the post-Soviet period, track and field athletes from the three main track and field republics of the Soviet Union - Russia, Ukraine and Belarus - have generally managed to maintain a high level of training for their leading athletes and maintain their leading positions in the world in many types of track and field.
