ОТОБРАЖЕНИЕ НАУЧНЫХ ИССЛЕДОВАНИЙ ПО ТЕМЕ "МАТЕМАТИЧЕСКОЕ МОДЕЛИРОВАНИЕ" В МАТЕМАТИЧЕСКОМ ОБРАЗОВАНИИ: ТЕМАТИЧЕСКОЕ ИССЛЕДОВАНИЕ SCOPUS

As pesquisas em Modelagem Matemática na Educação Matemática são realizadas há mais de três décadas no Brasil. Nesse período, é possível afirmar que há predominância da abordagem da pesquisa qualitativa. Nesse contexto, explicitamos alguns significados da pesquisa qualitativa em Modelagem Matemática na Educação Matemática no Brasil. Tais significados são descortinados sob uma abordagem fenomenológica de pesquisa, sobre a questão: como se mostra a pesquisa qualitativa em Modelagem Matemática na Educação Matemática? O solo para o qual a interrogação se direciona são os trabalhos publicados no III Seminário Internacional de Pesquisa em Educação Matemática SIPEM, realizado em 2006. As interpretações indicam fragilidades acerca do uso da abordagem qualitativa, principalmente, quanto à descrição detalhada dos procedimentos de análise, carecendo, portanto, de debates mais amplos para o avanço da pesquisa em Modelagem Matemática na Educação Matemática.

In Memoriam: Dr. Clive L. Dym (1942–2016)

Essa pesquisa é fruto do projeto de Iniciação Científica, ainda em desenvolvimento, sobre Modelagem Matemática e o GeoGebra. Com objetivo de responder Que focos das produções em Modelagem Matemática que mencionam o GeoGebra se revelam dos anais da CNMEM (2003-2019)?, a pesquisa interrogou as produções publicadas na Conferência Nacional sobre Modelagem na Educação Matemática (CNMEM), que mencionaram o GeoGebra. Após a seleção das produções, foram realizadas leituras sucessivas dos resumos, possibilitando estabelecer sínteses sobre seus objetivos. A aproximação temática entre esses objetivos permitiu uma convergência, favorecendo à constituição de três núcleos: Modelagem Matemática e GeoGebra na formação de professores; Aspectos da Modelagem Matemática com GeoGebra; Atividades de Modelagem Matemática e GeoGebra. Os resultados sustentam que as produções possuem objetos de investigação distintos, sugerem a emergência de saberes pedagógicos, técnicos e matemáticos, bem como despertam reflexões em (jovens) pesquisadores. This chapter provides a brief overview Stillman, G.A. of the state of the art in research and curricula on mathematical modellingmathematical modelling and applications of mathematics in education. Following a brief illustration of the nature of mathematical modelling in educational practice, research in real-world applications and mathematical modelling in mathematics curricula for schooling is overviewed. The theoretical and empirical lines of inquiry lines of inquiry empirical in mathematics education research related to teaching and learning of mathematical applications and mathematical modelling regularly in classrooms are then selectively highlighted. Finally, future directions are recommended.

This article provides a bibliometric overview of publications on eLearning trends in STE(A)M teaching and learning to give readers a better understanding of the current state of research in the field. The main objective of this study is to provide bibliometric data on publications on online teaching and learning trends for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education (STEM) teaching and learning purposes printed in journals included in the Scopus database in the years 2011-2023. For the bibliometric analysis, STEM learning, STEM teaching, online education, bibliometric review keywords were used, and 136 documents from the Scopus database were chosen. The collected data of the publications scanned and published in the parameters of the study were subjected to a bibliometric analysis based on seven categories: number of articles and citations per year, most influential countries, most prolific author, most prominent affiliations, funding institutions, publication source, and subject areas. Network diagrams and bibliometric analyses were created using the Scopus database analysis. Most of the articles were published between 2016 and 2022. The United States of America, the United Kingdom, and China were among the top-three most productive countries, and the United States of America produced the most publications. The number of citations to publications indexed in the Scopus database is growing steadily and reached its peak in 2022 (178 citations). The most prolific author on this subject is Minichiello, A., with four publications. In addition, Stanford University and Utah State University have maximum publishing partners. By funding 16 publications for online STEM teaching and learning, the National Science Foundation has shown leadership. The topic areas of the publications’ distribution were looked at. The articles’ respective fields of study were social sciences and computer science. This study offers a vision for future research as well as a worldwide view of online learning for STEM teaching and learning.

The study aims to emphasize the importance of financial management within the healthcare sector using bibliometric analysis techniques like influential authors, countries, journals, and publications. The researcher used the Scopus database for the extraction of required data. For this purpose, several relevant keywords and synonyms related to financial management in healthcare were used as advanced search options in the Scopus database. The bibliometric keyword cluster analysis indicated that financial management plays a significant role in health insurance, funding, cost, expenses, financing, and insurance related to healthcare units in Middle Eastern regions. The most influential top 5 countries for research in the financial management of healthcare units in the Middle Eastern region are Iran, Lebanon, Egypt, UAE, and Saudi Arabia respectively. Similarly, the most influential journal in this domain is “Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal published by World Health Organization”. Additionally, the most influential authors in this research domain are Ammar, Walid S from Lebanon, and Rashidian, Arash from Iran. The findings of this bibliometric study are specifically important for practitioners, administrators, and policymakers in the healthcare sector of the Middle East region for making valuable decisions regarding financial management practices.

In this paper, I outline a socio-critical perspective of modelling in mathematics education and discuss implications for analysis of students' activities at the micro level. In particular, a discursive perspective is presented with contributions from discursive psychology. Recent studies and classroom examples are taken into consideration.

The investigation of research trends in mathematics education in the global landscape has been prominent in the recent years. However, there is a dearth of literature in investigating research trends in mathematics education in the Philippine setting. Thus, this bibliometric analysis on the research in mathematics education in the Philippines from 2013 to 2023 was conducted. This paper aimed to present scientific information about the distribution pattern of research on mathematics education in terms of discipline, the profile of prominent authors, the key subject areas which given emphasis, and the direction of research. A total of 993 articles were obtained from the Scopus database and were analyzed using the VOSviewer software application to see the research trends in mathematics education in the Philippines. Research articles emerged as the predominant document type, followed by conference papers. The pinnacle of mathematics education research in the Philippines was in 2014. Notably, the research trend in the Philippines for the last five years have observable decrease in mathematics education. Results show that in terms of discipline, problem solving, teacher professional development, and curriculum were typically the key areas of emphasis. Moreover, the top author with the greatest number of citations since 2013-2023 is a female researcher from Mindanao. Furthermore, the mathematics subjects that have the most attention are algebra, proof, calculus, technology, geometry, and modeling. Finally, this paper foresees continued growth in mathematics education research in the Philippines, particularly in the realms of professional development and problem-solving.

This chapter provides a description of ZDM Mathematics Education, one of the oldest journals in mathematics education. Although ZDM Mathematics Education was founded in Germany, it was oriented internationally since its beginning. The historical development of ZDM Mathematics Education and its characteristics are described, namely the exclusive publishing of thematic issues by invited guest editors, who invite the contributors of the papers. This feature distinguishes ZDM Mathematics Education from many other journals in mathematics education. Despite the invitation-only submission basis, all papers undergo a rigorous peer-review process. The review criteria, the reviewing processes, and the editorial decision process are described, which are currently common to the major mathematics education journals. The journal’s foci and orientation have evolved significantly since its founding in 1969, with a strong inclusion of empirical research oriented towards a broad international audience, but adhering to its roots by emphasising subject-based themes.

In this chapter, we analyze the problem oriented project work practiced at the Bachelor Study Program in Natural Science (Nat Bach) at Roskilde University (RU) as a learning environment for developing students’ mathematical modelling competence. The projects are conducted in a rather sophisticated and radical learning environment grounded on the four pedagogical key principles of problem orientation, participant directed group work, interdisciplinarity and exemplarity. We illustrate and discuss the interplay between the aim of developing the students’ modelling competence on the one hand and on the other hand the key principles of the project work and the learning environment in which this pedagogy is brought into life at Nat Bach. In particular, we focus on the role and function of the feedback in the supervision process, and the peer‐review seminars. Through the analyses we aim at contributing to the research on modelling in mathematics education especially regarding the importance of the students’ autonomy in the modelling process, the exemplarity of their work and the interdisciplinary nature of modelling.

As argumentações pautadas nos interesses e objetivos de alunos e professores durante o desenvolvimento de atividades de Modelagem Matemática foram sistematizadas em Kaiser e Sriraman (2006) por meio de perspectivas para a Modelagem Matemática na Educação Matemática. Considerando o propósito do nosso trabalho de investigar a Modelagem Matemática como prática favorável ao desenvolvimento do pensamento matemático de alunos, pautamos nossas discussões na perspectiva cognitivista para a Modelagem Matemática. Para abordar o pensamento matemático utilizamos os pressupostos teóricos de Dreyfus (2002) sobre o pensamento matemático de estudantes, e as caracterizações de Tall (2004) para diferentes "Mundos da Matemática". As análises empreendidas se realizam a partir do desenvolvimento de atividades de modelagem por estudantes de um curso de Licenciatura em Matemática e expressam reflexões e considerações sobre o pensamento matemático dos alunos e os processos cognitivos que mobilizaram e apontam indícios do trânsito dos alunos pelos Três Mundos da Matemática durante o desenvolvimento destas atividades. Os resultados obtidos a partir dessa análise indicam o potencial de atividades de Modelagem Matemática como desencadeadoras de processos de pensamento matemático caracterizados por Dreyfus (2002) e Tall (2004).

Purpose – This study aims to reveal bibliometric data related to the study of Islamic education.
 Design/methods/approach – This study uses a bibliometric analysis method to examine publishing trends and emerging themes surrounding the study of Islamic education. The study is limited to the types of documents, articles, proceedings, reviews, and book chapters. This study uses the Scopus database, and the data was collected on July 1, 2021. The targeted data was retrieved by applying the search keywords: “Islamic Education” OR “Madrasah” OR “Islamic School.”
 Findings – The results of this study reveal that there has been an increase in the study of Islamic Education in Scopus-indexed journals over the last five years, with most of them written by Indonesian scientists. However, most articles published in the two journals are not specific to the study of Islamic education or religious studies.
 Research implications/limitations – This study is limited to Islamic education research in the Scopus database. This study only looks at bibliometric data analysis. Further studies based on the systematic literature review method can investigate the findings. Islamic education researchers can use the results of this study to develop future research topics.
 Practical implications – This study sheds light on the evolution of Islamic education research. The results of this study have implications for a more focused direction of Islamic education research through information science tools.

BackgroundASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) is composed of ten Southeast Asian countries bound by socio-cultural ties that promote regional peace and stability. South Asia, located in the southern subregion of Asia, includes nine countries sharing similarities in geographical and ethno-cultural factors. Chikungunya is one of the most significant problems in Southeast and South Asian countries. Much of the current chikungunya epidemic in Southeast Asia is caused by the emergence of a virus strain that originated in Africa and spread to Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, in South Asia, three confirmed lineages are in circulation. Given the positive correlation between research activity and the improvement of the clinical framework of biomedical research, this article aimed to examine the growth of chikungunya virus-related research in ASEAN and South Asian countries.MethodsThe Scopus database was used for this bibliometric analysis. The retrieved publications were subjected to a number of analyses, including those for the most prolific countries, journals, authors, institutions, and articles. Co-occurrence mapping of terms and keywords was used to determine the current state, emerging topics, and future prospects of chikungunya virus-related research. Bibliometrix and VOSviewer were used to analyze the data and visualize the collaboration network mapping.ResultsThe Scopus search engine identified 1280 chikungunya-related documents published by ASEAN and South Asian countries between 1967 and 2022. According to our findings, India was the most productive country in South Asia, and Thailand was the most productive country in Southeast Asia. In the early stages of the study, researchers investigated the vectors and outbreaks of the chikungunya virus. In recent years, the development of antivirus agents has emerged as a prominent topic.ConclusionsOur study is the first to present the growth of chikungunya virus-related research in ASEAN and South Asian countries from 1967 to 2022. In this study, the evaluation of the comprehensive profile of research on chikungunya can serve as a guide for future studies. In addition, a bibliometric analysis may serve as a resource for healthcare policymakers.

According to Aebli's operative method (1963) and Bruner's (1974) theory of representation the development of the process of thinking in teaching has the following phases - levels of abstraction: manipulation with specific things (specific phase), iconic representation (figural phase), symbolic representation (symbolic phase). Modern information technology has contributed to the enrichment of teaching and learning processes, especially in the fields of natural sciences and mathematics and those of production and technology. Simulation appears as a new possibility in the representation of knowledge. According to Guetzkow (1972) simulation is an operative representation of reality from a relevant aspect. It is about a model of an objective system, which is dynamic in itself. If that model is material it is a simple simulation, if it is abstract it is a reflective experiment, that is a computer simulation. This present work deals with the systematization and classification of simulation methods in the teaching of natural sciences and mathematics and of production and technology with special retrospective view on computer simulations and exemplar representation of the place and the role of this modern method of cognition.

With the rapidly developing technology, the labor force of the society has changed direction, and in the age of informatics, creative engineering applications have come to the forefront. Accordingly, the education levels of the labor force were also changed. The science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education model in most countries aims to teach science, mathematics, technology, and engineering in relation to primary, secondary, high school, and higher education. STEM education, which has an impact in our country in recent years, has an important role in acquiring new skills, supporting creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship, gaining the ability to transition between professions and adapting to new occupations. Nowadays, technology is expected to have different skills from individuals who will work in different fields with rapid development. Also, different teaching strategies play a major role in STEM integration and training. One of them, mathematical modeling, is the process of analyzing real-life or realistic situation using mathematical methods in the most general sense. The idea that mathematical modeling cycles should be used in STEM education at all levels from primary to tertiary education has gained importance in recent years, since it increases the students' motivation towards the lesson and they learn better by concentrating their attention.
