This study aims to describe the resilience of women prisoners of Jail Class IIB Bangkalan. Thisstudy uses descriptive qualitative method on each subject that has been determined by purposive sampling, this study uses method of collecting data semi-structured interviews. Subjects in this study are a woman prisoner who experienced abuse cases that led to deaths and homicides. Female prisoners experience conflict sourced from within the jail and sourced outside of the jail, resulting in feelings of sadness, regret, depressed, even feel does not want anymore and crash. The results of this study indicate that women prisoners are able to overcome the problems faced in which these problems can lead to adversity and suffering every day. The ability of the female prisoners is the ability to resilience. To achieve the Traffic resilience of women prisoners also passed the seven dimensions: women prisoners are able to regulate negative emotions owned into a positive activity, impulse control women prisoners are able to withstand the desire arising from within himself, female inmates have a feeling of optimism for passing sentence at the jail and after coming out of the jail, clausal analyze the female inmates were able to analyze the causes of the problem either cause prisoners Imprisoned and during serving his sentence at the jail, women prisoners are able to empathize with a fellow inmate and able to empathize with the families left behind, self efficacy inmates have the ability to override the problems faced by the various ways that do, reaching out female prisoners were able to take the positive aspects or to take lessons from the problems faced. In addition to the seven dimensions of women prisoners to support the ability for resilience also supported by three factors: individual, family, neighborhood. Natural and Anthropogenic Drivers of Water Quality in the Normanby Basin and Princess Charlotte Bay, Cape York Peninsula, Australia

The major objective of this study is to analyze rural households’ capability to absorb the negative consequences of unexpected shocks using seven resilience blocs based on the framework of resilience analysis. Resilience index was defined as a function of agricultural inputs and technology, social safety nets, access to public services, access to food and income, access to assets, stability and adaptive capacity. The estimation of each bloc was made separately using different multivariate techniques, where the result becomes covariates in the measurement of resilience index. The estimation of resilience index was done using factor analysis and three factors were retained. Under the first factor, all blocs, except access to public services, are positively correlated with resilience. The negative correlation between access to public services and resilience is because observed variables like health services and education qualities decreases as households become poorer. In terms of importance to rural household’s resilience index, the result indicates that asset ownership play significant role followed by access to food and income, as well as social safety nets. These resilience blocs show the likelihood of recovering from any form of climatic shocks that a household experiences. In the second factor, access to public services becomes positive, which shows that it is a positive characteristic of resilience. Adaptive capacity is positive in the first factor and negative in the second factor. The third factor triggers hidden information of the resilience bloc as stability and adaptive capacity are positive, which likely tells common story in terms of food security situations. In conclusion, poor households have limited or no access to physical and financial assets, little education, and often suffer from human illness and livestock diseases/death. Poor households lack access to sufficient, high-quality land and other natural resources or to remunerative resources of income and agricultural production boosting activities. Therefore, it is recommended that households should have supplements with preconditions and options available to them in terms of capabilities and activities such as agricultural production boosting and income-generating activities, access to assets, improving the quality of public services, social safety nets and adaptive capacity.

In this paper, we propose an AC power flow based cascading failure model that explicitly considers external weather conditions, extreme temperatures in particular, and evaluates the impact of extreme temperature on the initiation and propagation of cascading blackouts. Based on this model, careful analysis is performed on the resilience of the power system under extreme temperatures. Specifically, load and dynamic line rating changes are modeled due to temperature disturbance, the probabilities for transmission line and generator outages are evaluated, and the timing for each type of events is carefully calculated to decide the actual event sequence. It should be emphasized that the correlated events, in the advent of external temperature changes, could together contribute to voltage instability. Besides, we model undervoltage load shedding and operator re-dispatch as control strategies for preventing the propagation of cascading failures. The effectiveness of the proposed model is verified by simulation results on the RTS-96 3-area system and it is found that temperature disturbances can lead to correlated load change and line/generator tripping, which together will greatly increase the risk of cascading and voltage instability. Critical temperature change, critical area with temperature disturbance, identification of most vulnerable buses, and comparison of different control strategies are also carefully investigated.

Abstract: Conflicts in Indonesia do not only occur at the regional, ethnic and religious level but also at the village level. One example is the inter-village conflict between Pentagen and Sleman village residents in Kerinci District, Jambi Province. Conflicts between villages have caused huge losses both materially and psychologically. In such catastrophic conditions, residents attempt to be resilient and rebuild their life orientations. This study used qualitative method with phenomenological approach. In-depth interviews with 5 Pentagen villagers who were victims of the conflict were conducted to gather data. Data analysis used interpretative phenomenology analysis. The results of the study revealed the existence of resilience character in Pentagen residents in the forms of emotional regulation, impulse control, optimism, causal analysis, and self-efficacy. The novelty of these findings is the existence of themes related to a sense of kinship and togetherness, prosocial attitude, trauma healing, evacuation, and life orientation. Factors that influence resilience are religiosity, family encouragement, and social support.

Artificial diversity is one method for mitigating the security risks of software monoculture. Introducing diversity increases resilience by obfuscating the system parameters an attacker must control for a successful exploit. We take a different approach to resilience and introduce the concept of Application Communities (AC): collections of independent instances of the same application that cooperatively monitor their execution for flaws and attacks and notify the community when such events are detected. We propose a set of parameters that define an AC and explore the tradeoffs between the minimal size of an AC, the marginal overhead imposed on each member, and the speed with which new faults are detected. We provide a sketch of both analytical and experimental results that show ACs are feasible for current applications: an AC of 15,000 members can monitor Apache for new faults with a 6% performance degradation for each member

Recovery is necessary -for society- to rearrange their life after the earthquake. Teachers as society -members try to provide social supports as an attempt to overcome problems resulting from the earthquake. Social supports as an important part of the recovery process have positive effects on society members. This study revealed how teachers helped the recovery process after-the earthquake in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Territory. The study employed the qualitative approach. The data were collected through in~depth interviews, observations, and documents. The data were analyzed by using the descriptive and narrative techniques. In the post-earthquake situation, teachers established resilience to recover their own life spirit and their students'. It was not easy for them to do so because most of them experienced a traumatic situation during the earthquake. They tried to apply resilience strategies in the recovery process. For them, difficulties that the students faced were not only damaged and destroyed school bUildings which were not conducive for learning. For them, the earthquake was a learning experience to understand more about life. They realized their limitation as God's creatures, social creatures, and individual creatures. In the recovery process, teachers, especially those in Pleret District, expressed their creatiVity in a rational and positive attitude towards the earthquake by joining a variety of spiritual-and social activities. They accompanied the students in difficult situations. They stated that they could not realize the helping process to the maximum due to their own internal problems. They stated that the earthquake -managed to improve their understanding of the meaning of life and was the beginning of a process of learning the earthquake as natural event that might happen any time in Indonesia

Towards improving detection of early warning signals within organizations : an approach to the identification and utilization of underlying factors from an organizational perspective

The QSR industry in Nigeria has witnessed the emergence and disappearance of several actors. Some stride the industry for a couple of years; others fade away as quickly as they surfaced. Yet there are QSRs that have thrived and endured in the industry. Several factors could be responsible for this phenomenon. However, the current study investigated the extent to which employee empowerment can account for resilience of QSRs. ECD, DoA and EPDM are used as indicators of employee empowerment. The study adopted an explanatory research design and used a questionnaire to collect primary data; while the Spearman’s rank order correlation (rho) was employed as the test statistic. The study relied on SPSS version 20.0 for data analyses. The study observed that employee empowerment associates strongly with resilience of QSRs as all the dimensions of employee empowerment posted strong, positive and statistically significant relationship with resilience of QSRs. The study concludes that employee empowerment informs resilience of QSRs, or that resilience of QSRs depends on DoA, EPDM, and ECD; and recommends that QSRs that desires resilience in the business-scape must continually update the competencies of their customer-contact employees, involve them in decision-making and give them adequate powers to perform tasks and discharge duties assigned to them. Studies Reveal Rx for Doctors: A Daily Dose of Meditation

This paper is a reflection upon the issue of urban flooding, attempts to adapt to it and strategic risk reduction measures of those with responsibility for planning at the level of the city region. Following the introduction, flooding hazards are considered within the context of global environmental processes and rapid urbanisation, and the paper has a discussion of both theoretical and policy perspectives to urban flood risk and vulnerability. Consideration is then given to a broad range of potential interventions that could be available to stakeholders, before, during or after a flooding event, whether the measure would be undertaken by a government, member(s) of the community or the private sector. Finally, in the context of international policy guidance, consideration is given to the role that city planners could make in addressing the risk of flooding emergencies through more strategic, medium and long-term approaches. The paper concludes that collaborative forms of governance with the full engagement of the community are essential for disaster risk resilience

As the expansion area, Serakapi Village needs to get facilities to support the development as its main area, Saneo Village. Strengthening human resources needed to run the village development programs by local social institutions in an attempt to embody social resilience. Through the Development of Village Social Resilience Model, that has been implemented by the Ministry of Social Affairs, social resilience in Serakapi Village was studied of its supporting and handicap factors. The results showed that the formed forum, namely Sabua Ade, had clear organized and planned in the division of social protection, community participation, social conflict prevention, and local wisdom development. This forum has been running well according to the plan despite one issue, funding problem. It’s recommended that community social resilience model should be aplicated in other regions by respecting the typology and character of the villages.

Millions of users share their experiences, thoughts, and interests online, through social media sites (e.g., Twitter, Flickr, YouTube). As a result, these sites host a substantial number of user-contributed documents (e.g., textual messages, photographs, videos) for a wide variety of events (e.g., concerts, political demonstrations, earthquakes). In this dissertation, we present techniques for leveraging the wealth of available social media documents to identify and characterize events of different types and scale. By automatically identifying and characterizing events and their associated user-contributed social media documents, we can ultimately offer substantial improvements in browsing and search quality for event content. To understand the types of events that exist in social media, we first characterize a large set of events using their associated social media documents. Specifically, we develop a taxonomy of events in social media, identify important dimensions along which they can be categorized, and determine the key distinguishing features that can be derived from their associated documents. We quantitatively examine the computed features for different categories of events, and establish that significant differences can be detected across categories. Importantly, we observe differences between events and other non-event content that exists in social media. We use these observations to inform our event identification techniques. To identify events in social media, we follow two possible scenarios. In one scenario, we do not have any information about the events that are re ected in the data. In this scenario, we use an online clustering framework to identify these unknown events and their associated social media documents. To distinguish between event and non-event content, we develop event classification techniques that rely on a rich family of aggregate cluster statistics, including temporal, social, topical, and platform-centric characteristics. In addition, to tailor the clustering framework to the social media domain, we develop similarity metric learning techniques for social media documents, exploiting the variety of document context features, both textual and non-textual. In our alternative event identification scenario, the events of interest are known, through user-contributed event aggregation platforms (e.g., Last.fm events, EventBrite, Facebook events). In this scenario, we can identify social media documents for the known events by exploiting known event features, such as the event title, venue, and time. While this event information is generally helpful and easy to collect, it is often noisy and ambiguous. To address this challenge, we develop query formulation strategies for retrieving event content on different social media sites. Specifically, we propose a two-step query formulation approach, with a first step that uses highly specific queries aimed at achieving high-precision results, and a second step that builds on these high-precision results, using term extraction and frequency analysis, with the goal of improving recall. Importantly, we demonstrate how event-related documents from one social media site can be used to enhance the identification of documents for the event on another social media site, thus contributing to the diversity of information that we identify. The number of social media documents that our techniques identify for each event is potentially large. To avoid overwhelming users with unmanageable volumes of event information, we design techniques for selecting a subset of documents from the total number of documents that we identify for each event. Specifically, we aim to select high-quality, relevant documents that re ect useful event information. For this content selection task, we experiment with several centrality-based techniques that consider the similarity of each event-related document to the central theme of its associated event and to other social media documents that correspond to the same event. We then evaluate both the relative and overall user satisfaction with the selected social media documents for each event. The existing tools to find and organize social media event content are extremely limited. This dissertation presents robust ways to organize and filter this noisy but powerful event information. With our event identification, characterization, and content selection techniques, we provide new opportunities for exploring and interacting with a diverse set of social media documents that re ect timely and revealing event content. Overall, the work presented in this dissertation provides an essential methodology for organizing social media documents that re ect event information, towards improved browsing and search for social media event data.
