Since today's enterprises must constantly adapt to rapidly changing external environment, it is necessary to be able to deal with variation and changing conditions in information systems (IS) development. This may be achieved by the use of multifractal IS development methodologies. Fractal approaches to some extent have already been tested in adaptive enterprise development, adaptive manufacturing systems development, and software development. This suggests that multifractal IS development, on the one hand, is appropriate, because the information system should properly reflect the business enterprise (in this case a fractal one) and, on the other hand, it is possible, because some elements of it have already been implemented. Development of multifractal IS aims at managing relative completeness by relative simplicity that has to be discovered in different subsystems that influence the development of the information system. This, in essence, implies the need of thorough analysis an understanding of business structures and processes to discover patterns useful for the identification of fractal features. Currently, only some guidelines for development of multifractal IS are derived from reported experiences of fractal systems development and the use of fractal approaches in other domains.

Our research addresses the problem of managing and coordinating information resources used in information system (IS) development. In our approach, we argue that conceptual specifications of information systems are the fundamental constituents of information resources. Accordingly, the first challenge of the research is to manage and coordinate conceptual specifications used in IS development. For this reason, an System upon Information Systems (ISIS) is proposed to manage and coordinate information resources based on conceptual specifications of information systems. An ISIS is actually a typical information system, which supports other information systems in development. Correspondingly, this thesis presents a conceptual framework for building and managing the ISIS. This conceptual framework describes how to identify, modularize, manage, represent, and coordinate conceptual specifications used in IS development. In conclusion, the thesis ends with the current results, present works and remaining research issues.

Currently, the development of organizational information systems remains a complex task. Final software product quality often does not match expectations. The existence of organizational models is the first step to reduce complexity in the development of information systems. Within the life cycle of an information system, activities are still very dependent in quality, time, and costs on the human resource skills that staff them. The existence of automated mechanisms to transform client requirements into characteristics of running systems would bring added value to the resulting software product, either in product quality and time perspectives. In this proposal, the manipulation of requirements must be done using an understandable model for both software engineers and business process experts. This model should be used to automatically reshape the running organizational information system and be the basis for an automated information system generation. The usage of such mechanism can be done during a development project, but also after its implementation where standalone process experts could change the organization model, knowing that the changes, in an automated mode, would be transferred into the running system.

This study examines behavioral accounting on the basis of the theory of information systems. Respondents in this study were 200 respondents of the users of information systems in medium enteprise in East Kalimantan. The results indicate that user participation in the development of information systems influence user satisfaction in information system development, although the magnitude of the effect is 9%. The result indicates that user - developer communication, task complexcity, system complexcity, user influence, organisation culture moderated the effect of user’s participation on user’s satisfaction in information system development. It was also found that top management support acts as independent predictor on user’s satisfaction in information system development. User-developer communication having positive effetc on user’s satisfaction in information system development. User influence having negative effect on user’s satisfaction in information system development. Task complexcity and system coplexcity having negative effect on user’s satisfaction in information system development. Organizational culture having positive effect on user’s satisfaction in information system development. Illustrates the main functionalities and development methodologies of the ISYDES (Information SYstem DEsign Support) system, which is a CASE tool for information system (IS) design and development. Such a tool is mainly composed of two software tools: the first allows the definition of the static structure of data, whereas the second allows the complete specification of all the functions which constitute the dynamic part of an IS. This second step is very important in the design phase of an IS, as all the IS operations and processes are based on the specification of such functions. The proposed ISYDES tool adopts an object-oriented approach to the IS conceptual design; in particular, it provides a way to specify the information processes that can be easily translated into the actual IS-coded procedures.

The development of information system has become a strategic part of organizational plans and operations. This requires the involvement of all personnel from different levels in an organization. In subsequence, the current research investigates the effects of user participation on the development of information system and job satisfaction. A path analysis model was established to examine the interrelations among the defined variables. Research results indicate that (1) during the development of information system, the more the user participation, the higher the quality of system; (2) the higher the quality of a system, the higher the quality of information; (3) the higher the quality of a system, the higher the satisfaction on an information system; (5) the higher the information quality, the higher the satisfaction on an information system; (6) the higher the quality of information, the higher the job satisfaction, and (7) the higher the satisfaction on an information system, the higher the job satisfaction. Discussions and implications were provided in this research also.

Insurance companies exist as a means to protect individuals or businesses from unexpected financial risks, such as losses resulting from accidents, natural disasters, fires, or theft. Monitoring the marketing prospect reporting is one of the challenges faced by every insurance company. In light of this issue, this research proposes the development of a marketing prospect monitoring information system. The development of this information system uses Laravel Framework and employs a prototype method, encompassing stages of requirement gathering, design, implementation, evaluation, and system distribution. The results show that this information system has a positive contribution to the company and addresses previous issues, although there are some improvements that need to be considered in the future.

We outline a process approach for conducting qualitative research on how contemporary information systems (IS) development is enacted in practice. The approach involves a longitudinal case study to obtain rich data from which a detailed process narrative is produced. The narrative is informed by a conceptual model of IS development as situated socio-technical change, generating a theoretical explanation that highlights the temporal, emergent and contingent nature of IS development. This approach extends prior process studies of IS development by focusing on micro-level project activities, examining change as a continuous process and theorising IS change as the outcome of a dynamic trajectory of situated and socio-technical interactions. The methodological approach developed here can be used by other researchers to inform process studies of this complex organisational phenomenon.

Objectives . Agile methodologies are crucial in software engineering and information systems (IS) development. However, traditional training methods can struggle to convey abstract theoretical concepts effectively and may lead to reduced engagement. We propose that combining several learning methodologies and incorporating serious games and gamification strategies in training can offer a more innovative and engaging approach to improve comprehension. This article outlines a game-based learning strategy designed to instruct information systems students in agile development. Our approach is rooted in active learning principles, incorporating methodologies such as problem/project-based learning, microlearning, collaborative learning, and learning by doing. The course design unfolds in two phases. Initially, participants delve into short, serious games that vividly demonstrate theoretical concepts, followed by brief moments of theoretical exposition. In the subsequent phase, participants apply all the knowledge they have acquired through an extensive project. To illustrate and evaluate the overall process, this approach was implemented to teach Scrum in several training courses. Participants . The participants in this study were information technology and systems students at different academic levels. Study Method . The research model adopted in this work is based on the Design Science Research (DSR) method. Adhering to the DSR method, the study advanced through distinct phases: recognizing the challenge of engaging Agile Development education, formulating a solution with a course design that blends game-based learning and diverse learning methodologies, developing the course artifact, practically implementing it with Scrum with several groups in different contexts, and assessing its effectiveness using pre- and post-course quizzes. The course aimed to instruct participants in agile methods within information system development. Findings . Feedback from the courses was clearly positive, with participants expressing a preference for the proposed game-based approach over traditional expository lecture methods. Pre- and post-course knowledge quizzes revealed a noteworthy increase in correct answers and overall scores in the end. Conclusions . The novelty lies in an integrated approach that combines multiple active learning methodologies—such as game-based learning, microlearning, collaborative learning, project-based learning, and learning by doing—to facilitate the comprehension of theoretical concepts through practical application.

The objective of the information system (IS) development project is to develop and modify systems that satisfy customers' and users' needs on schedule and within a budget. The early activities in information systems development, i.e. the front end of innovation in information systems, are recognized as critical and important steps; poor execution of these activities is an almost certain guarantee for a failure of the final IS product. However, there are many problems related to the early phases of IS development, and therefore this research paper presents a conceptual model for categorizing the problems in the front end of innovation in IS. Based on this conceptual model, we suggest that the activities in the early phases of information system development currently used in organizations do no work in large scale. In the directions for future research we discuss the need for new approaches in the front end of innovation in information systems.

The overall objective of this work is the development of a District Information System (DIS) which could be used by stakeholders for the purposes of a district day-to-day water management as well as for planning and strategic decisionmaking. The DIS was developed from a GIS-based modeling approach, which integrates a generic crop model and a hydraulic model of the transport/distribution system, using land use maps generated by Landsat TM imagery. The main sub-objectives are: (i) the development of an operational algorithm to retrieve crop evapotranspiration from remote sensing data, (ii) the development of an information system with friendly user interface for the data base, the crop module and the hydraulic module and (iii) the analysis and validation of management scenarios from model simulations predicting the respective behavior. The Lake Karla watershed is used in this study, but the overall methodology could be used as a basis for future analysis elsewhere. Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land (SEBAL) was used to derive monthly actual evapotranspiration (ET) values from Landsat TM imagery. Meteorological data from the archives of the Institute for Research and Technology, Thessaly (I.RE.TE.TH) has also been used. The methodology was developed using high quality Landsat TM images during 2007 growing season. Monthly ET values are used as an input to CROPWAT model. Outputs of CROPWAT model are then used as input for WEAP model. The developed scenario is based on the actual situation of the surface irrigation network of the Local Administration of Land Reclamation (LALR) of Pinios for the year of 2007. The DIS is calibrated with observed data of this year and the district parameterization is conducted based on the actual operation of the network. The operation of the surface irrigation network of Pinios LALR is simulated using Technologismiki Works, while the operation of closed pipe irrigation network of Lake Karla LALR is simulated using Watercad. Four alternative scenarios have been tested with the DIS: • Reduction of channel losses • Alteration of irrigation methods • Introduction of greenhouse cultivation • Operation of the future Lake Karla network. The results of the simulation for the historical period indicate that the water pumped from Pinios LALR is not enough to serve irrigation requirements. The spatial and temporal variation of the unmet and unsatisfied water demand has been estimated. Simulation of the four alternative scenarios indicated that the alteration of irrigation methods scenario mainly increases the efficiency of the irrigation network. © 2015 Copyright SPIE.

As the significant success of business enterprises, information system development becomes IT managers' concern to keep the balance between business and information system. The information system has an important role to deliver advantages to the business enterprises. To keep maintain these issues, information system should be developed to innovate the business process. However, in developing an information system, the information system process improvement may obtain the possibility of information system development failures. Therefore, to avoid the failures in implementing information systems there are some important factors. Those factors are called critical success factors (CSF). Therefore, this study observes the critical success factors (CSF) in information system development (ISD) projects. This systematic literature review discusses critical success factors in information system development. The method section determines the research question. It also describes how to collect and filter the data. The order of this research written is according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses Checklist or also known as PRISMA Checklist. Therefore, to collect and filter the data, this systematic literature review uses Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses method or also known as PRISMA method. There were 20 papers selected to help this research based on the filtering papers due to PRISMA flow diagram. Most of those papers are discussing information system development and the rest are about factors of information system development. The result section has two parts, which are study characteristics and study results. This systematic literature review concluded that there are five critical success factors in developing information system projects. Those critical success factors are people, project, organization, knowledge, and expertise. Those critical success factors are also supported by several items of each factor. Therefore, the output of this research is expected to satisfy the information system development projects to meet the organizations' need and reduce also possibly avoid the failures in information system development projects.

We propose a method for information system (IS) design with a focus on the applicability of intelligent chatbots. An analysis of existing chatbots shows that current solutions do not have the ability to formulate IS requirements during designing without human intervention. The study proposes to integrate ChatGPT (GPT4 model) as a chatbot to solve the problem of writing requirements elicitation for IS. The proposed method for solving the problem is based on a gradual reduction in entropy of chatbot response, which can be achieved by controlling such basic query parameters as the form, depth and breadth of the prompt. Based on the proposed method, an algorithm for controling prompts during a dialogue with a chatbot was developed, regulating the form, depth and breadth of the question to obtain the required level of content in the answer. The following results were obtained during the study: a method for obtaining new knowledge based on entropy of chatbot response reduction; algorithm for prompts control; the second phase of IS development is automated (including identification of business requirements and system objectives; analysis of existing solutions and technologies; determination of functional requirements and system capabilities; development of system architecture, including service definition and interaction; creation of interfaces for service interaction; establishment of a data model and database and formulation of business process logic). The method was tested to design an IS to support strategic decision making in the forestry industry. The design results received a positive assessment from experts. Analysis of the obtained results revealed the advantages and limitations of using chatbots as co-pilots in the design of IS and outlined directions for future research.

The state of professional training of students needs to improve the digital educational environment, which can ensure the effective formation of digital and research competencies of future specialists. One of the components of software and methodological support of the modern university environment is the development and implementation of information systems aimed at their professional training. The article considers the main stages of design and development of the information system for students’ professional training, the process of designing the architecture and interface of the web system is described. Prototypes of the main pages of the system were also developed. The web system component diagram, the scheme of the website, the sequence diagram of the information system, and the states diagrams of the main processes are presented. The research shows the technologies used in the development of the information system of professional training, describes and demonstrates its pages, presents the structure of the database and gives a description of its tables. Thus, CMS WordPress was used for development, which is a popular free content management system, PHP was chosen as a programming language. In the developed information system teachers have the opportunity to post educational materials and publish practical tasks; students get access to educational resources, can sample them according to a certain criterion. The peculiarity of the information system for professional training presented by the authors is the development of the parser for automatic filling the database of educational resources for students. It allows to improve the process of updating materials for students of computer specialties, because the need for manual filling of the information system by users is reduced. The article will be interesting for people involved in the didactic process at universities and for specialists involved in the design and implementation of IT systems

In this paper, the role of participation within the domains of information system (IS) research and social development is analyzed. Specifically, we examine how the process of IS development, and the IS itself, can reflect and shape the status of social development. Traditionally, participatory design (PD) research in IS has focused on business contexts in the Western world, with minimal application to developing country settings, especially in the context of social development. This paper seeks to contribute to developing these understandings and bases its analysis on a case study of a community-based health IS in South Africa. The case study involved the design and development of a community-based child health IS in a rural area of South Africa. Nationally, the formal district health IS in South Africa includes data only on those people who access health services through the health facilities. The premise behind developing a community-based child health IS was to include all the people living in that district in the district health IS. Analysis of the case study reveals three ways in which traditional PD needs reconceptualization. First, it is not only the users of the IS who should participate, but also those individuals who are affected by the IS, even when those individuals have no direct interaction with the system itself. Second, whereas there is some recognition in PD literature of the need for the participation of people at different levels vertically distributed within an organization, there has been little recognition of the value of involving actors outside the organization or sector. Third, the capacity of the users and those impacted by the system needs to be developed to ensure effective participation in the IS design and development processes. These three approaches to PD in IS, whose purpose is to contribute to social development, are essential components of a participatory strategy. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
