Purpose The study examined a wide range of proactive supply chain practices to demonstrate a cross-linkage among them and to understand their effects on both practitioners of previous decision-making models, frameworks, strategies and policies. Here, six supply chain practices are empirically evaluated based on 28 constructs to investigate a comprehensive model and confirm the connections for achieving performance and competence. The study presents a conceptual model and examines the influence of many crucial factors, i.e. supply chain collaboration, knowledge, information sharing, green human resources (GHR) management and lean-green (LG) practices on supply chain performance. Design/methodology/approach Structural equation modeling (SEM) examines the conceptual model and allied relationship. A sample of 175 respondents' data was collected to test the hypothesized relations. A resource based view (RBV) was adopted, and the questionnaires-based survey was conducted on the Indian supply chain professionals to explore the effect of LG and green human resource management (GHRM) practices on supply chain performance. Findings The study presented five constructs for supply chain capabilities (SCCA), five constructs for supply chain collaboration and integration (SCIN), four constructs for supply chain knowledge and information sharing (SCKI), five constructs for GHR, five constructs for LG practices (LGPR) and four constructs for lean-green SCM (LG-SCM) firm performance to be utilized for validation by the specific industry, company size and operational boundaries for attaining sustainability. The outcome emphasizes that SCCA positively influence GHRM, LG practices and LG supply chain firm performance. However, LG practices do not influence LG-SCM firm performance, particularly in India. Originality/value The study exploited multiple practices in a conceptual model to provide a widespread understanding of decision-making to assist in developing a holistic approach based on different practices for attaining organizational sustainability. The study stimulates the cross-pollination of ideas between many supply chain practices to better understand SCCA, SCIN, SCKI, GHRM and LG-SCM under a single roof for retaining organization performance.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate how supply chain digital transformation (DT) affects firm performance, specifically with regard to industrial manufacturing companies in developing nations. Design/Methodology/Approach: A mixed research approach was adopted. Qualitative methods helped develop the theoretical model and measurement scales. Quantitative data were collected through surveys distributed to 166 industrial manufacturing companies in Hanoi. The final dataset consisted of 159 valid responses. The assumptions were tested using structural equation modeling (SEM) with SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 24.0. Findings: The results show that digital transformation enhances information exchange, coordination and responsiveness within supply chain. However, it does not directly improve firm performance. Coordination and responsiveness are two supply chain characteristics that have a good influence on firm performance, while information exchange has a negligible effect. Additionally, coordination plays a mediating role between digital transformation and firm performance, but the mediating role of information exchange is not supported. Research limitations/Implications: The research is geographically limited to Hanoi and may not represent all industrial firms in Vietnam. Future research should expand the dataset across regions and industries. Originality/value: This research fills a gap in the literature on digital supply chain transformation in developing economies. It also provides empirical evidence on how supply chain capabilities mediate the DT-firm performance relationship. Operational collaboration in a supply chain is important due to the fierce competition among supply chains. However, the collaboration in a supply chain is often hindered by its distribution channel’s lack of funds. It is of significance to alleviate the capital constraint problem of the distribution channel and explore new joint operational and financial collaboration solutions. In this paper, we focus on exploring the optimal solution of operational collaboration in the presence of manufacturer collateral. We consider a supply chain consisting of a well-capitalized manufacturer and a capital-constrained retailer that faces difficulties obtaining credit from the bank. To help the retailer access financing for a purchase order, the manufacturer promises to pay the lender a proportion of the retailer’s loan if the retailer goes bankrupt. We find that when the bank credit with manufacturer collateral is considered as a mix of trade credit and bank credit, the retailer’s financing equilibrium depending on the maximum wholesale price what the manufacturer can set, can be neither trade credit nor bank credit alone, but a combination of them. Moreover, the retailer’s order quantity and the chain’s operational collaboration level will benefit from the manufacturer collateral.

Crises cause delays in supply chain management with resulting changes to organizations’ internal structures. The COVID-19 pandemic has deeply affected the global supply chain and, with it, the organizational structure of companies. This research discusses supply chain collaboration (SCC) by considering two important organizational competencies: organizational learning culture (OLC) and decentralization (DC). It investigates the potential impact of these intangible resources upon SCC after the COVID-19 pandemic. The theoretical model was tested by variance-based Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using results of a questionnaire which was completed by 245 respondents. In fact, this study explores which organizational capabilities determine the SCC level specifically within the current COVID-19 pandemic period. We believe that this contribution is significant, as the level of collaboration between companies can change during risk periods. The results show that OLC have significantly positive effects on SCC. Moreover, DC plays a critical role for the relationship between OLC and SCC. In other words, this study reveals the importance of DC to observe the positive effects of OLC on SCC. Unlike previous studies which explored SCC, this research demonstrates the importance of an organization’s inherent intangible resources in order to improve relationships with suppliers. The article ends with a discussion of the findings and their implications.

Thailand is one of the largest producers and exporters of agricultural and food products, and the food industry is also an important major section for Thailand's economy. While the food industry can generate a high income for the country, its supply chain still contains some problems among different parties. There are a lot of factors that could affect the performance of the food industry's chain. It is difficult to choose one success factor to be improved since improving one factor could lead to a positive or even a negative impact on another factor. The purpose of this study is to explore the degree of relationships between supply chain capabilities and competitive advantages towards business performance. The data were drawn from 236 food manufacturing companies in Thailand and the measurement scales were tested and validated using structural equation modelling (SEM). The findings provide appropriate supply chain strategies for successful linkage implementation so that management will be able to pursue better supply chain strategic applications directly in their business environment. The proposed model will also provide the causal-effect determinants affecting supply chain performance, to enhance supply chain strategies to meet supply chain goals, and to guide decision makers with pertinent information to implement such strategies.

Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to provide a systematic review of the literature on Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR). The review emphasises the descriptors of CPFR implementation and models, as well as the impact of CPFR and other supply chain collaboration (SCC) initiatives on supply chain (SC) performance.Design/methodology/approach– The systematic review includes 50 full-text papers retrieved from four databases: Emerald, EBSCO, ScienceDirect and Wiley. Rigorous and verifiable keywords, review steps and selection criteria were applied to the database and inter-coders agreement was systematically checked.Findings– There is no consensus regarding the breadth and scope of CPFR configurations. CPFR is context-dependent and varies according to the configuration of the SC. Trust, information-communication technology and the quality of information sharing are main enablers and inhibitors of implementation.Practical implications– Practitioners will benefit from insights related to the choice of SCC configurations (e.g. number of partners, nature of products and spatial complexity), the importance of trust and empowerment for SCC and the need to outweigh carefully the costs and benefits of specific SCC before implementation.Originality/value– CPFR, which is considered by many to be the most advanced and the most comprehensive SCC process and has a direct impact upon SC performance. Nonetheless, efforts to synthesise the overall state of the art in CPFR have been rather limited to date. As an effort to fill this gap, this paper provides a better understanding of the role of CPFR as a determinant of SC performance. As an effort to contribute to complete the cycle of theory building based on the literature review, seven propositions for CPFR research are put forward.

Efficiency meets accountability: Performance implications of supply chain configuration, control, and capabilities

Purpose This study aims to explore the interplay between supply chain collaboration and disruption and their joint impact on supply chain resilience. It also aims to identify the configurational conditions under which supply chain resilience is achieved, providing a holistic framework for enhancing supply chain management practices amidst disruptions. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to investigate the complex causal mechanisms linking supply chain collaboration and disruption with supply chain resilience. The research integrates three dimensions of collaboration with three dimensions of disruption, offering a comprehensive understanding of supply chain resilience factors. Findings This study reveals that supply chain resilience is not solely dependent on individual elements but is shaped by unique configurations of collaboration and disruption factors. Information sharing emerges as a core factor in high resilience, while the absence of supply and facility disruptions significantly influences resilience outcomes. The research highlights the importance of multiple paths leading to supply chain resilience and the asymmetrical impact of collaboration and disruption. Research limitations/implications The study acknowledges limitations due to data sourced exclusively from China and the use of static data, suggesting the need for cross-temporal and international samples to enhance broader applicability. Future research should consider dynamic temporal changes and diverse theoretical perspectives to comprehensively examine the factors influencing supply chain resilience. Practical implications The research underscores the critical role of information sharing in bolstering supply chain resilience and advises firms to prioritize it in their strategies. It also highlights the importance of mitigating supply and facility disruptions through supplier diversification and robust contingency planning, offering actionable insights for enhancing operational efficiency and risk management in supply chain management. Social implications This research has significant social implications, particularly in the context of global supply chain disruptions. By identifying key factors that enhance supply chain resilience, it can help businesses better prepare for and respond to crises, thereby reducing economic instability and social disruption. Improved resilience can lead to more stable employment, maintain the flow of essential goods and services and contribute to overall societal well-being during times of supply chain stress. Originality/value This study offers original insights by applying fsQCA to explore the multifaceted relationship between supply chain collaboration, disruption and resilience. Its value lies in revealing the complex causal configurations that lead to high or low levels of supply chain resilience, challenging traditional linear perspectives and providing a nuanced understanding that can guide both academic research and practical supply chain management strategies.

In the current highly uncertain external environment for businesses, maintaining a single competitive advantage in the supply chain is difficult in the long run. There is an urgent need to acquire a more comprehensive and sustainable competitive advantage, and the thriving digitalization is reshaping the industry structure and competitive dynamics. This study, based on data from 255 survey responses, employs a structural equation model to examine the relationships among environmental uncertainty, digital transformation, supply chain capabilities, and sustainable competitive performance in the supply chain context. Our findings reveal the significant role of digital transformation in enhancing supply chain capabilities, which in turn positively influence sustainable competitive performance. A further analysis shows that supply chain capabilities mediate the relationship between supply chain digital transformation and sustainable competitive performance. Moreover, environmental uncertainty can serve as a driving force for digital transformation, stimulating supply chains to enhance their exploration of digitalization. This research provides valuable insights into exploring sustainable competitive performance in the supply chain context. It addresses the gap in empirical literature regarding digital transformation research and enriches the field of the contingency theory.

Manufacturing companies are trying hard to anticipate a disrupted supply chain. Internal changes are encouraged to adapt to external conditions. Partnerships with external parties through supply chain collaboration are needed to improve supply chain performance and increase competitiveness. This research examines the effect of supply chain collaboration on supply chain performance by adopting new product development, product knowledge, and production technology. The study surveyed 148 manufacturing companies at managerial level using questionnaires. Data processing using SmartPLS software version 4.0. The results show that supply chain collaboration positively influences production technology, product knowledge, new product development, and supply chain performance. Production technology positively impacts product knowledge, new product development, and supply chain performance. The results also show that supply chain performance is influenced by product knowledge and new product development. In addition, production technology, new product development, and product knowledge mediate the indirect influence of supply chain collaboration on supply chain performance. This study contributes to enriching supply chain management theory. The practical contribution is to enlighten the company's managerial to run supply chain collaboration in generating performance and competitiveness.

As technology in supply chain advanced, a large amount of big data has been generated and companies employ big data can gain competitive advantages through their supply chain capabilities. However, companies are lack of knowledge regarding big data and its management methods in the early phase of big data adoption. The objectives of this research are to identify the relationship of big data-driven supply chain towards supply chain capabilities and the relationship of supply chain capabilities towards competitive advantages. This research surveys the managers of manufacturing companies in Selangor. By using convenience sampling techniques, 162 online questionnaires were distributed. A total of 123 questionnaires were collected. The 5-point likert scale is adopted to evaluate the agreement level and descriptive analysis employed in the research. This research also uses the quantitative method to collect and analyse the data. IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software is adopted to analyse the data. The findings indicated that big data-driven supply chain have a positive and significant relationship with supply chain capabilities. Moreover, supply chain capabilities also have a positive and significant relationship with competitive advantages. All hypotheses in this research are significant and accepted. Therefore, manufacturing companies can find the best methods to facilitate competitive advantages by using big data-driven supply chain capabilities.

PurposeThis study aims to investigate the proposed relationships concerning the supply chain collaboration (SCC) practices and knowledge sharing with organizational performance in the pharmaceutical industry of a developing country.Design/methodology/approachIn total, 203 executives working in various pharmaceutical companies of Bangladesh participated in the study. Factor analysis and structural equation modeling were applied to test the proposed research hypotheses.FindingsThis study reveals that both knowledge sharing and collaboration practices in the supply chain significantly influence customer satisfaction leading to business competitiveness as evidenced in the superior product quality and new product innovation in this knowledge-intensive industry. It further reveals a statistically significant correlation between SCC and knowledge sharing practices.Research limitations/implicationsThis study is performed only on the manufacturers in the pharmaceutical industry from the perspective of a developing country. Future studies could cover other entities operating in a pharmaceutical supply chain.Practical implicationsThe findings of the study have significant practical implications due to the fact that the aspect of knowledge sharing exerts influence on customer satisfaction that holds the key to competitive priorities. The managers need to address this issue seriously.Originality/valueFew studies have been performed vis-a-vis the impact of both SCC and knowledge sharing on the organizational outcomes in the pharmaceutical industry from the perspective of a developing country.

This study aims to examine the mediating role perceived usefulness between supply chain collaboration and the intention to use blockchain in the textile industry of Pakistan. A cross-sectional method is conducted, and data is gathered with the help of the adopted questionnaire from previous studies. The HR department of the concerned firm is requested to circulate the printed questionnaire among middle-level employees of the firm. A total of 240 cases are considered in this study. Five Likert scales, from strongly disagree to agree strongly, are considered to test the suggested hypotheses based on previous studies. The findings of this study confirmed the direct effect of supply chain collaboration on the intention to use the blockchain and the partial mediation effect of perceived usefulness is revealed. There are few studies on supply chain collaboration, blockchain use, and perceived usefulness in developing countries like Pakistan's textile industry, especially among middle-level employees. Existing scholarship ignores emerging countries' textile sectors and extends results to other industries. The insights also help managers create blockchain-integrated supply chain strategies. Blockchain technology may be maximized via technology providers and industry-wide cooperation. These practical consequences may improve developing nations' textile supply chains' efficiency, transparency, and competitiveness. Supply Chain Collaboration (SCC) is still a new definition in Vietnam, where a small number of enterprises formed or participated in supply chains. This leads to the need of a distinct study, depict the real situation of supply chain and especially SCC in Vietnam. The purpose of this study is to examine the feasibility of a collaboration index based on previous findings, and give the pre-estimation of the level of collaboration in present supply chain. We propose and premilitary test the collaboration index, which fits Vietnam economy context, using data gathered from 46 local firms. The result will open up venues for further empirically researches as well as provide some clues to help firms in improving their supply chain performance in general, and SCC, in particular.

The building industry has become a critical economic sector for country’s development. Due to covid-19, world’s most industrialised countries saw significant declines in their GDP. An effective supply chain system ensures higher efficiency rates, better customer relationship and service, reduced production costs and an overall improvement in the financial performance of a construction company. The entry of covid-19 in Kashmir has adversely impacted the supply chain of construction industry and the economy. So, there is a need to mitigate the impact of covid-19 pandemic on the supply chain management for the better future of construction industry. The aim of this paper is to capture the issues, challenges and implications of the covid-19 pandemic on supply-chain activities in Kashmir, India. This also provides strategies and insights on mitigating the risks and impact of the pandemic on supply chain management. Based on the issues identified, a questionnaire survey was conducted to assess the impact of these factors on supply chain management. Exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modelling was used to analyse the factors. The problematic causes include reduction in supply chain flexibility and difficulties in supply chain collaboration. There is a need to diversify the supply chains and avoid the single source of supply.
