On 17 December, 2021 the fifth applied research conference “Khmyrov Criminalistic Readings” was held in the premises of Kuban State University with participation of academic staff from the Russian Federation, near and far-abroad countries – Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Poland, Lithuania, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Criminalistics and Legal Informatics Department. The 2021 conference was one of the most representative in the history of this event. More than 100 applications from scholars all over the world were submitted to participate in the Conference. The Organising and Programme Committees of the Conference included representatives of the Police Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Baku, Azerbaijan), Almaty Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty, Kazakhstan), Baikal State University (Irkutsk, Russia), Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University (Kaliningrad, Russia), Belarusian State University (Minsk, Belarus), University of Warmia and Mazury (Poland, Olsztyn), Kuban State University (Krasnodar, Russian Federation), Kuban State University (Moscow, Russia), Kuban State Agrarian University (Krasnodar, Russian Federation), Kuban State Agrarian University (Krasnodar, Russia), Bolashak Academy in Karaganda (Karaganda, Kazakhstan), Krasnodar University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia (Krasnodar, Russia), Lomonosov Moscow State University (Moscow, Russia), National Research Tomsk State University (Moscow, Russia). The purpose of the conference was to perpetuate the scientific heritage of the outstanding Russian scientist, founder of Kuban school of criminalistics Alexander A. Khmyrov (1925-2017) and to elaborate new approaches to the development of criminalistics, forensic expertise, criminal intelligence and surveillance, evidentiary process and other applied branches of legal knowledge. Since the time the conference was held for the first time in 2017, certain areas of scientific research have taken shape where the leading scientists share their findings. The conference invariably attracts attention of Russian and foreign criminalists, experts in the field of evidence, researchers in the sphere of forensic examination and criminal intelligence, information technologies in law enforcement and investigative activities, current employees of pretrial investigation agencies, prosecutors, practicing lawyers. Summaries of proceedings of each conference, containing the main theses of papers and presentations discussed, were published. The conference themes were as follows: 1) Modern problems of criminalistics; 2) Criminalistic aspects of evidentiary process; 3) Trends in development of forensic science; 4) Current issues of criminal intelligence. 5) Interdisciplinary links in forensic science. The conference was distinguished by its focus on discussion of the raised problems and free discourse on a wide range of opinions on the issues under consideration, with strict observance of scientific ethics. The interdisciplinary nature and the breadth of covered fundamental and practical issues made the conference attractive for specialists from Russia and foreign countries representing various scientific fields. In the course of the conference, it became possible to find solutions to many complex scientific challenges and dilemmas owing to the well-coordinated work of the organising committee and the speakers.

The article examines the key events and trends associated with the establishment and development of the “Belarusian Studies, History of Belarus and the Belarusian Diaspora” academic programme at the Faculty of History, Lomonosov Moscow State University. For the first time, it introduces data on the main stages of intergovernmental cooperation between the Faculty of History at Moscow State University and leading Belarusian educational and scientifi c centres involved in the study and teaching of history. These centres include the Faculty of History of Belarusian State University, the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Academy of Management under the President of the Republic of Belarus, and others. The article identifi es the initiative contributions of national-cultural autonomies, public organizations, and associations of the Belarusian diaspora in Russia and worldwide to this process. The key results of the joint activities between historians from the Union State are highlighted, including the creation of the academic programme “Belarusian Studies, History of Belarus and the Belarusian Diaspora”, the launch of the fi rst Russian-Belarusian international joint master’s programme off ering dual qualifi cations from Lomonosov Moscow State University and Belarusian State University in “History of the Belarusian Diaspora”, the creation of the unique format of inter-university event “Days of Friendship between Lomonosov Moscow State University and Belarusian State University”, the establishment of the Archive of the Belarusian Diaspora History and the Belarusian Scientifi c Literature Cabinet at the Faculty of History, and the regular organization of scientifi c events involving representatives of the Moscow University History Faculty and Belarusian historians. The article also discusses projects in which the Faculty of History played an active role, which have since become signifi cant intergovernmental initiatives, including the establishment of the Russian-Belarusian Expert and Consulting Council on History. The final conclusion is that the Faculty of History at Lomonosov Moscow State University has made a special contribution to the formation of a unifi ed RussianBelarusian socio-humanitarian space. Within the framework of this collaboration, a unique Russian-Belarusian intergovernmental unified scientifi c school is being systematically established.

It describes the 60-year history of the Institute of Applied Physics of the State University of Moldova and its main milestones: formation of the basic laboratories and production sectors, pilot production, and launching the journal „Elektronnaya obrabotka materialov” (Electronic Processing of Materials), consolidation of the scientific potential, training of highly qualified personnel, organization of conferences, effective cooperation, participation in national and international projects, scientific schools, development of activity ensuring a closed cycle - from basic research to applied research, to widely used technologies and technical means, main aspects of optimizing the structure, updating the research theme, development of innovative activities. It is stressed that the Institute of Applied Physics, with its traditions, experience and aspirations, has been and remains open to those who wish to pursue their doctoral and postdoctoral studies or to collaborate with its well-coordinated team.

Political transformations, institutional changes in higher education, paradigm shifts, changes in disciplinary matrices, scientific networks, space and language of science contributed to the non-linear development of political science in Russia and prevented the formation of a metanarrative about the history of Russian politi cal science. As shown by the conducted study, as well as the study of the history of political science in other countries, such a metanarrative can only be created on the basis of the principles of historicism and contextualism. A significant contribu tion to the successive development of this discipline was made by scholarly and educational institutions specializing in the production of political knowledge and training professionals in this field. The corresponding infrastructure began to form in Russia at the turn of the 17th–18th centuries. At the same time, a key role was played by universities serving the production and transfer of political knowledge, academization of political research, professionalization of political specialties. Using the example of Moscow University, several lines of development of political education are traced in the article: the evolution of disciplinary forms of political science, educational infrastructure and processes of circulation of political knowl edge. The institutionalization of political science led to the establishment in 2008 of the Faculty of Political Science at Lomonosov Moscow State University, which continues to play an important role in ensuring continuity in the field of political studies and political education in Russia.

In the contemporary scientific and educational sphere of Russia, Buddhism is experiencing a surge of interest, which has led to an increased focus on Buddhist studies. Nevertheless, the development of this discipline is impeded by several challenges, including a shortage of young specialists, narrowly focused research, and insufficient integration among regional scientific schools. This article analyses one of the responses to these challenges: the scientific and educational project, Young Buddhologist School, launched in 2024. The project was initiated by Tuvan State University with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Foundation for the Support of Buddhist Education and Research, and the country’s leading universities — Lomonosov Moscow State University, Buryat State University, and Kalmyk State University. The objective of the project is to establish a distinctive interdisciplinary forum for interaction between novice and established researchers of Buddhism, thereby unifying religious scholars, philosophers, historians, anthropologists, philologists and other specialists. During the project’s first year and a half, two major summer schools were conducted (in 2024 and 2025) and were attended by researchers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tuva, Buryatia, Kalmykia, and other regions. The program comprised a variety of educational activities, including lectures, seminars, discussions, project work and observation of Buddhist practices. This multifaceted approach enabled participants to exchange knowledge and to develop skills in its practical application. The following topics constituted the primary focus of the School’s summer sessions: firstly, the study of regional traditions and global processes in the historical development of Buddhism; secondly, an examination of the concepts and ideas of Buddhist religious and philosophical thought; thirdly, an analysis of Buddhist rituals and practices; fourthly, an investigation of Buddhist material culture (sacred art, architecture and artefacts); fifthly, the translation and preservation of Buddhist literature; and finally, the formulation of strategies for the development of Russian Buddhist studies. A key feature of both summer sessions was the integration of theoretical and field activities. The participants engaged in two distinct activities. Firstly, they conducted textual analysis and examined historical processes. Secondly, they immersed themselves in living Buddhist traditions. This involved visiting religious centers, attending rituals and interacting with contemporary Russian Buddhists. The preliminary findings of the ‘Young Buddhologist School’ project demonstrate that the scientific and educational forum developed helps to consolidate the Russian scientific community, thereby facilitating the establishment of networks of professional contacts between researchers of diverse generations and schools.

The 5th International Geosciences Student Conference (IGSC) — organized by Perm State University Student Chapter, the Institute of Applied Physics Geophysical Society, and Gubkin University Student Chapter — took place at the Institute of Applied Physics in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, 28 July–1 August 2014. The conference was complemented by an exhibition featuring SEG, ExxonMobil, the MOL group, Schlumberger, the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), and GeofizPoisk.

Ed Sullivan was a pioneer in model-based signal processing and his contributions have inspired numerous scientists in the fields of acoustic signal processing and ocean acoustics. Work by Ed and his colleagues is among the first efforts to formulate ocean acoustic inverse problems in a sequential filtering framework; methods were developed that overcome the destructive role of mismatch between assumed and true physics in inverse problems. In paper “Model-based ocean acoustic signal processing,” Acoustics Today, July 2011, Ed Sullivan identifies three main directions in signal processing, detection, classification, and estimation; he focuses on estimation and presents a study of model-based methods for inverse problems and how those methods can be successfully applied to the field of ocean acoustics. This presentation reviews these applications and discusses the impact of Ed Sullivan’s contributions on other advances in ocean acoustic signal processing.

Summary form only given, as follows. As a result of the interaction with the operating wave in a relativistic BWO, electrons obtain a great velocity spread for practically any efficiency of beam-to-microwave energy conversion. Calculations show that the distribution of electrons is almost symmetric with respect to the average electron energy. The main portion of the electrons is found in two fractions: one of them has energy almost twice that of the average value, whereas the electrons of the second fraction have very low energy that lead to a decrease in the value of the space-charge-limiting current. When the electron collector is placed far from the interaction space, local virtual cathodes appear in the output channel, even when the electron beam propagates close to the wall. Part of the reflected electrons reach the cathode and result in a decrease of the beam current and the subsequent disappearance of virtual cathodes. As a result, modulation of the output radiation appears, the depth of modulation depending on the collector conditions. In experiments performed at the Institute of Applied Physics using a Sinus accelerator, a 0.5 MV, 17 ns X-band relativistic BWO radiated microwave pulses of 10 ns duration. The placement of a massive copper ring directly at the end of the electrodynamic system resulted in the microwave pulse duration equaling the voltage pulse duration. In the case without the massive ring, pulse shortening could be attributed to a decrease in electron emission owing to electrons reflected from the collector; the electron beam current would fall below the start oscillation current, thereby preventing microwave generation. Therefore, conditions at the collector of a relativistic BWO can interrupt the regime of stationary microwave generation.

Introduction. This scientific study provides a brief overview of the creative path of the great Russian and Soviet scientist, Professor of Lomonosov Moscow State University – Mikhail Nikolaevich Gernet. Based on the analysis of scientific works written during the Soviet period of M. N. Gernet’s life and activity, the author outlined his personal point of view on his role in the evolving of a number of legal branches, as well as in the development of Russian legal science. This research will enable young Russian scholars and practitioners, as well as specialists interested in studying the origins of Russian law, to gain better and more thorough understanding of the content of legal phenomena, events, as well as legislative processes unfolding at the present time. Methods. The methodological basis of this study was formed by private-scientific methods, primarily content analysis of documents and legal methods, as well as general scientific methods, including historical, system analysis, generalisation, modelling and others. Results. In the course of this research project, it was possible to convincingly prove that that M. N. Gernet made a significant contribution to the development of criminology within legal science. His profound, fundamental, and advanced scientific research, both theoretical and practical, not only advanced the field for his time but also had a lasting impact on the field. Today, criminology is a sub-branch of criminal law, and its influence on Russian criminal legal theory is substantial. In addition, the author concludes that in the scientific works written by M. N. Gernet, most of the author’s points of view are based solely on humanistic approaches. Even when considering issues related to criminal punishment, the author endeavoured to expand the use of the parole system. Most of Professor M. N. Gernet’s scientific ideas are imbued with the principles of justice. Throughout his life, he sought to bridge the gap between theoretical scientific concepts and practical applications.

In order to realize the near real-time prediction of the ocean acoustic field, this paper conducted a comparative study of HYCOM data and NMDC data for the application of hydrographic datasets, and drew pseudo-color maps of ocean surface temperature distribution and sound velocity distribution characteristics in the area of 4°N~26°N and 105°E~1236°E respectively. Moreover, the 3D visual distribution of sound velocity in the ocean acoustic field in a 1° grid region of 114°E~115°E, 18°N~19°N is also conducted. Comparisons of the results with the two datasets shown that the acoustic velocity distribution characteristics generated by these two datasets remain consistent overall, and the data generated by HYCOM has more detailed features than the NMDC, however, NMDC data has smaller size and advantageous data type of acoustic velocity, which reduces the requirements for computer hardware and offers a faster processing speed.

The Rusnanotech 2010 International Forum on was held from November 1–3, 2010, in Moscow, Russia. It was the third forum organized by RUSNANO (Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies) since 2008. In March 2011 RUSNANO was established as an open joint-stock company through the reorganization of the state corporation Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies. RUSNANO's mission is to develop the Russian nanotechnology through co-investment in nanotechnology projects with substantial economic potential or social benefit. Within the framework of the Forum Science and Technology Program, presentations on key trends of nanotechnology development were given by foreign and Russian scientists, R&D officers of leading international companies, universities and scientific centers. Among them in the Nanomaterials section was the lecture by Dr Konstantin Novoselov, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics 2010. The poster session consisted of over 500 presentations, 300 of which were presented in the framework of the young scientists' nanotechnology papers competition. This volume of the Journal of Physics: Conference Series includes a selection of 57 submissions.
