Countless studies in animals have shown how housing environments and behaviors can significantly affect anxiety and brain health, giving valuable insight as to whether this is applicable in the human context. The relationship between housing, behavior, brain health, and mental wellbeing in humans remains poorly understood. We therefore explored the interaction of housing quality, weekend/holiday sedentary behavior, brain structure, and anxiety in healthy Japanese adults. Whole-brain structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods based on gray matter volume and fractional anisotropy were used as markers for brain health. Correlation tests were conducted, and then adjusted for multiple comparisons using the False Discovery Rate method. Housing quality and weekend/holiday sedentary behavior were associated with fractional anisotropy, but not with gray matter volume. Fractional anisotropy showed significant associations with anxiety. Lastly, both weekend/holiday sedentary behavior and housing quality were indirectly associated with anxiety through fractional anisotropy. These results add to the limited evidence surrounding the relationship among housing, behavior, and the brain. Furthermore, these results show that behavior and housing qualities can have an indirect impact on anxiety through neurobiological markers such as fractional anisotropy.

Although principle of combustion process in combust ion chamber is the same in fact the oscillation movement is different. Simulation technique has bee n adopted to study both linear and conventional engine. 3D engines model have been simulate of the motion. Due to simulate both engines, three different tools have been used. Solid works has bee n used to design, assembly and motion analysis of engine models. However, pressure dynamics have been simulating by GT-Power. Spread sheet has been used to optimize geometry of spring. Spring fo rce and friction force are including components of dynamic and gas dynamic models. Three results have been conducted such as comparison in basic motion (displacement, velocity and acceleration) be tween conventional and linear engine, effect spring design on motion of piston movement and effect fric tion of piston ring and journal bearing on the motion characteristics of linear engine. The simula tion shows clear different motion characteristics between conventional and linear engine. The effect of spring design on motion characteristics is very strong. The friction between ring piston with cylin der liner and journal bearing with rod influenced o f piston movement. However, it need modified the desi gn of spring mechanism.

Dr Damien Vivet, of the University of Orléans, talks about the story behind their paper ‘Access control based on gait analysis and face recognition’ page 751. Dr Damien Vivet My field focuses on multi-modal perception and its interpretation for an efficient use of sensor measurements, whatever the modality (radar, vision, laser…). I worked on various applications such as localisation and mapping for robots, autonomous or assisted driving and even for traffic analysis. Even though robotics is a very interesting research field, I wanted to apply such perception technics in a different context with the objective to assist people and analyse their behaviours. Our Letter presents a human recognition application for access control, but it has also been applied in a medical context to distinguish patients in nursing homes. I think home care applications have a big future in the current context of an aging population. For example, in France, by 2035, it is estimated that 31% of people will be over 60 years old and 13.6% will be over 75. In this situation, applications to improve home care take a very important dimension. It seems natural that detection and localisation technics used to measure activities, will be essential to increase the autonomy of these populations. This research area is wide, but we try to make a contribution by proposing descriptors in order to detect and understand human behaviour. In this article, we deal with gait, but within our research team other works are in progress on human 3D pose detection, emotion analysis and even abnormal event detection. We have proposed a people identification technic based on gait analysis and face recognition, applied and evaluated in an access control context. Our system is based on a unique low-cost camera and can be easily positioned in a room to analyse the gait of the detected people. The system is able to detect people and their faces automatically and to process both static (for faces) and dynamic (for gait) descriptors. Based on previous learning about the characteristics, the system is able to identify detected people very accurately even if the face is hidden. Existing recognition systems are mainly based on face recognition. Their main problem is when the face is hidden, for example, when people are wearing a hat, or when the detected faces are of poor quality (small image size, noisy image), detection cannot be done. Our system overcomes these limitations as, in such conditions, it can identify people using only their gait, even from the back. Of course very different clothing can also cause problems for our gait descriptor. This is why we chose to use both. In my opinion, human analysis research has a bright future. The need for behaviour analysis is increasing, whether for security or access control, home care application or even for intelligent management of building energy use in response to occupant activities. Nevertheless, we should be aware of the ethical problems of such systems. For me, the main challenge to overcome is the public's acceptance of camera sensors in a housing environment or even on the streets. Respect for private life is becoming more and more important so such visual sensors could become unsuitable. Even if we certify that no image is transmitted outside the system, people are still reticent to have such technology at home. If we want this development to happen and to be integrated in future intelligent houses, new non-intrusive imaging sensors have to be developed. Part of our group is exploring scene analysis with the objective of detecting if something that happens is abnormal or not. For this purpose, we are developing new descriptors to characterise scenes. For example, in addition to face, emotion or gait descriptors, we are currently trying to extract the 3D human pose using only a single camera, in order to easily detect and recognise activities. Moreover, we don’t just consider people, but also deal with traffic monitoring to detect infractions or accidents using a camera network.

Nowadays, housing development wide-spreads in various cities in Indonesia. This is due to the increasing needs of the community towards a safe residence with its complete facilities and infrastructure to support the needs of daily life. Housing is not only build and construct, but it should also have a protection effort to make residential shelter safe from disaster, such as fire. Fires in housing have a high level of risk and danger since it can cause material loss and loss of life. Fire passive protection system is an effort to overcome the fire. The use of passive fire protection system is to facilitate the community and firefighters in extinguishing the fire so that the spread of fire does not propagate to other buildings. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the reliability level of passive fire protection system in the housing environment by doing a case study at Perumnas Helvetia Medan. Then, it was done by giving layout design recommendation of the residential area by passive fire protection system theory of building and environment.

Introduction by the column editors: Persons with schizophrenia experience numerous deficits in their daily lives, particularly in the area of social competence. Social skills training is an evidence-based element of a comprehensive approach to the rehabilitation of persons with serious mental illness (1). The basic conversational skills module, or curriculum, is one in a series of social and independent living skills modules developed to overcome the social deficits of individuals with schizophrenia (2). It has been translated into a dozen languages and used in numerous countries with demonstrated efficacy for improving knowledge and performance of conversation skills and enhancing social functioning of persons with schizophrenia (3). Chinese individuals with schizophrenia have limited access to empirically validated methods for improving their social skills (4). Although the process of developing interpersonal relationships in Western and Asian societies is probably more similar than different, the adaptation of programs developed in the United States to the needs of Chinese persons requires careful consideration of cultural and linguistic issues. The authors of this month's column describe the process of translating and culturally adapting the basic conversational skills module for use in a Chinese population and provide preliminary evidence of the module's beneficial effects on the social competence, self-esteem, and personal well-being of persons with schizophrenia in Hong Kong.

Current developments greatly influence human behavior, especially elementary school children. In order for elementary school students to remain focused on positive rules, of course there needs to be good, directed and targeted provision with the aim that elementary school children can grow into students who obey the rules. Teachers provide knowledge of traditional arts to students so that students can know and preserve traditional arts culture, with the other aim of ensuring that traditional dances do not fade with the times amidst the current onslaught of modern dances. Of course, it is not an easy matter for teachers to carry out achievement targets in preserving traditional culture for students. The task of teachers and parents is clearly needed so that children do not fall into negative things, especially in the school environment. Looking at the aspect of the dance environment at Ta'allumul Huda Elementary School by strengthening the character of Pancasila students, it is necessary to provide provision, training and assistance to teachers, grades 4, 5 and 6, by providing traditional dance material and also assistance with basic traditional dance techniques. The result of this service activity is that all class teachers can understand aspects of traditional dance by strengthening the character of Pancasila students, and teachers can learn the movements and names of basic Central Javanese traditional dance movements, and teachers can practice basic dance movements through Banyumasan dance.

With the rapid development of computer science and technology in our country, especially the advent of the 5G network era, the emergence of smart prostheses makes it possible for disabled, injured, or amputee people with lower limbs to walk and exercise like normal people. However, due to the different selection of prosthetic materials, the final lower limb prostheses produced will also have different performance differences. How to select prosthetic materials to optimize the performance of the intelligent lower limb prosthesis is the focus of extensive discussion in the medical community. For this reason, this article takes the research of the adaptive control system of intelligent lower limb prosthesis based on 5G virtual reality as the research object. By using the current advanced 5G communication technology and virtual reality technology, a high‐performance intelligent lower limb prosthesis is produced. Provide assistance with basic walking and motor abilities in daily life of patients with lower limb disabilities. This article first gives a systematic theoretical introduction to 5G virtual reality technology, expounds the current status of patients with lower limb disabilities, and proposes to use intelligent lower limb prosthetics to replace healthy lower limbs to solve the basic walking and sports needs of disabled patients in daily life and then use 5G virtual reality technology. The selection of human knee joints and ankle joints and structural system design were carried out. Finally, it was decided to use the four‐bar linkage structure as the knee joint structure of the three‐dimensional modeling of the intelligent lower limb prosthesis. At the end of this article, the application and simulation of the intelligent lower limb prosthesis to the human body were also carried out. The results of the experiment found that after 45 weeks of wearing exercises, the gait of the intelligent lower limb prosthesis is consistent with the expected effect whether it is walking on level ground and up and down the stairs or uphill. Due to the strong adaptiveness of the intelligent lower limb prosthesis sexual control, it can well assist the basic life movement ability of patients with lower limb disabilities.

Cryptographic algorithms such as International Data Encryption Algorithm(IDEA) have found various applications in secure transmission of the data in networked instrumentation and distributed measurement systems. Modulo 2 <sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">n</sup> +1 multiplier and squarer play a pivotal role in the implementation of such crypto-algorithms. In this work, an efficient hardware design of the IDEA (International Data Encryption Algorithm) using novel modulo 2 <sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">n</sup> +1 multiplier and squarer as the basic modules is proposed for faster, smaller and low-power IDEA hardware circuits. Novel hardware implementation of the modulo 2 <sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">n</sup> +1 multiplier is shown by using the efficient compressors and sparse tree based inverted end around carry adders is given. The novel modules are applied on IDEA algorithm and the resulting implementation is compared both qualitatively and quantitatively with the IDEA implementation using the existing multiplier/squarer implementations. Experimental measurement results show that the proposed design is faster and smaller and also consume less power than similar hardware implementations making it a viable option for efficient hardware designs.

Powered exoskeletons for people with paraplegia have been widely developed. To generate the basic but essential motions for daily human life, precise control algorithms to follow the joint reference trajectories are necessary. The dynamic characteristics of the exoskeletal joints, however, varies signifi-cantly during walking because the load side is exchanged from legs in the air to the wearer’s body. To ensure robustness and tracking performance for any case of gait even in the presence of exogenous disturbances such as human’s active movements and repeated ground contacts, customized robust control algorithms need to be developed. In this paper, therefore, hybrid model control of the powered exoskeleton, WalklON Suit, utilized with the disturbance observer is introduced. A hybrid nominal model, whose model parameters are interchanged between the gait phases, i.e., swing and stance, is developed by the parameter adatpation algorithm. By the proposed method, the disturbance observer can fully reject the exogenous disturbance during walking and achieve high-performance gait assistance to the people with complete paraplegia. In this paper, the experimental verification of the designed model and the controller with the WalkON Suit, are also introduced.

This symposium will review the latest data on the influence of environmental design and its attributes on the cognitive and psychological wellbeing of older adults living with dementia. The presenters will cover the myriad ways in which the physical environment of care can adapt to the changing demands of older adults with sensory, motor and cognitive deficits and foster optimal functioning and quality of life. The role of emerging technologies will also be reviewed as they complement the contribution of the design of the physical environment to the wellbeing of older adults with cognitive impairment. Information will be offered through a review of the existing research literature as well as case studies that illustrate the impact of environmental modification on fostering wellbeing and minimizing the emergence of the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. The presenters will represent and integrate sensibilities that have emerged from the fields of architecture, cognitive neuroscience and psychology.How the Principles of the Culture Change Movement Inform Environmental Design and the Application of Technology in the Care of Older Adults Living with DementiaWilliam E. This talk will review the core tenets of the Culture Change Movement as exemplified by the Greenhouse, Dementia Village and other innovative models of congregate long-term care. Specific reference will be made to how these tenets have been operationalized around the world into the design of programming and the creation of residential care environments that foster a better quality of life for older adults and an enhanced work environment for care providers. This talk will also include the emerging role of technologies that complement innovative design of the environment and which foster optimized social and recreational functioning of older adults living with dementia.A Better Life Through a Better Nursing Home DesignL. Bradford PerkinsOver the last 20 years there has been extensive experimentation related to the role of the environment in the housing, care and treatment of persons with Alzheimer’s and other age related dementias. Prior to that time the typical housing and care environment was a locked unit in a skilled nursing or other restrictive senior living facility. In 1991 the Presbyterian Association on Aging in Western Pennsylvania opened Woodside Place on its Oakmont campus. This small 36 bed facility was designed to incorporate the latest research and care experience with persons suffering from these issues. This one small project, as well as the long post occupancy research led by Carnegie Mellon University, clearly demonstrated that individuals with Alzheimer’s and related forms of dementia could lead a healthier, happier, higher quality of life in a more residential, less restrictive environment. Not everything in this pioneering project worked, and five generations of living and care models have followed that have refined the ideas first demonstrated by Woodside Place. Bradford Perkins, whose firm designed Woodside Place and over 100 other related projects, will discuss what was learned from Woodside Place as well as the five generations of projects (and post occupancy research) that followed.Innovative dementia care environments as alternatives for traditional nursing homes: evidence and experiences from the NetherlandsHilde VerbeekKey goals of the dementia care environment focus on increasing autonomy, supporting independence and trying to enable one’s own lifestyle for as long as possible. To meet these goals, innovative, small-scale and homelike care environments have been developed that have radically changed the physical, social and organizational aspects of long-term care in the Netherlands. This presentation discusses various Dutch models that have implemented small-scale and homelike care environments, including green care farms, dementia village and citizen initiatives. The models reflect a common care concept, focusing on residents’ remaining strengths, providing opportunity for choice and aiming to sustain a sense of self and control. A small number of residents (usually 6 to 8) live together in a homelike environment and nursing staff are part of the household. Residents are encouraged to participate in daily household activities, emphasizing normalization of daily life with person-centred care. The physical environment resembles an archetypal home. This talk presents the scientific evidence on the impact and effects of these small-scale, homelike models on residents, their family caregivers and staff. Furthermore, the presentation will highlight working approaches and how these initiatives have positively influenced routine care across the long-term care spectrum.

We theoretically develop an efficient and universal design scheme of quantum light sources based on hybrid circular Bragg grating (CBG) cavity with and without electrical contact bridges. As the proposed design scheme strongly alleviates the computational cost of numerical simulation, we present high-performance CBG designs based on the GaAs/SiO2/Au material system for emission wavelengths ranging from 900 nm to 1600 nm, covering the whole telecom O-band and C-band. All designs achieve remarkable Purcell factors surpassing a value of 26 and extraction efficiencies (into a numerical aperture of 0.8) exceeding 92% without contact bridges and 86% with contact bridges. Additionally, we show that our design approach easily deals with realistic structural constraints, such as preset thicknesses of a semiconductor membrane or SiO2 layers or with a different material system. The high design flexibility greatly supports the experimental deterministic fabrication approaches, allowing one to perform in-situ design adaptation and to integrate single quantum emitters of an inhomogeneously broadened ensemble on the same chip into wavelength-adapted structures without spectral constraints, which highly increase the yield of quantum device fabrication.

Introduction O VER the past decade there has been considerable progress in the development of numerical simulation techniques for unsteady transonic flow calculations. This activity was motivated by the need to supplement the expensive and time-consuming wind-tunnel investigations and flight tests with inexpensive, fast, and efficient computer simulation programs to accurately predict flutter boundaries and many other important aeroelastic phenomena in the transonic regime. Although the basic fluid motion in unsteady aerodynamics is governed by the Navier-Stokes (NS) equations, numerical simulations of the complete NS equations for general threedimensional flow problems are not yet sufficiently developed for flutter applications. Computational methods in threedimensional unsteady transonic flows concentrate mainly on the transonic small disturbance (TSD) equation or full potential (FP) equation. The major advantage of the simpler model using TSD or FP approach over those based on Euler and NS formulation is the large reduction in computational time and memory requirements. In Ref. 1, the TSD code UST3D was described. This code utilizes the time-linearization approach for solving the transonic small disturbance equation. It was demonstrated that the technique could be used with confidence for computations of three-dimensional unsteady transonic flows over an isolated thin wing. An improved version of the UST3D program was given in Ref. 2 and results from a validation study were presented. This transonic aerodynamics code was incorporated into the Institute for Aerospace Research (IAR) Flutter Analysis Program. This Note presents some results from an aerodynamic and flutter analysis of the AGARD 445.6 wing which was recommended by AGARD as a standard configuration for code validation.

Character education is an essential aspect of education that transcends academic development. However, its implementation is frequently hindered by students' lack of social responsibility and mutual respect. Through the development of a physical education learning model based on the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR) approach, this study sought to address the fundamental problems inherent in the implementation of character education in schools. Using an experimental method and a pretest-posttest design with 56 elementary school students, this study employed the game Engklek to promote character development and enhance fundamental manipulative skills. The results demonstrated a positive impact on the character traits, knowledge, and abilities of the students, with increased scores at levels 1 and 2. However, there were identified limitations, such as the need for adequate facilities and the limited habituation of character characteristics in daily life due to time constraints. Overall, this research contributes to the development of a physical education learning model that enhances the character development and fundamental manipulative movements of elementary school students, whereas future research should explore alternative materials and interactive learning media to further improve physical education.

SUMMARYIn this paper, we introduce a lower extremity exoskeleton CUHK-EXO that is developed to help paraplegic patients, who have lost the motor and sensory functions of their lower limbs to perform basic daily life motions. Since the sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit (STS) motion is the first step for paraplegic patients toward walking, analysis of the exoskeleton's applicability to the STS motion assistance is performed. First, the human-exoskeleton system (HES) is modeled as a five-link model during the STS motion, and the center of pressure (COP) on the ground and center of gravity of the whole system are calculated. Then, a description of the CUHK-EXO hardware design is presented, including the mechatronics design and actuator selection. The COP position is an important factor indicating system balance and wearer's comfort. Based on the COP position, a trajectory online modification algorithm (TOMA) is proposed for CUHK-EXO to counteract disturbances, stabilize system balance, and improve the wearer's comfort in the STS motion. The results of STS motion tests conducted with a paraplegic patient demonstrate that CUHK-EXO can provide a normal reference pattern and proper assistive torque to support the patient's STS motion. In addition, a pilot study is conducted with a healthy subject to verify the effectiveness of the proposed TOMA under external disturbances before future clinical trials. The testing results verify that CUHK-EXO can counteract disturbances, and help the wearer perform the STS motion safely and comfortably.
