A classification of module braces over the ring of $$\varvec{p}$$-adic integers

In this article, we study several probabilistic properties of polynomials defined over the ring of p-adic integers under the Haar measure. First, we calculate the probability that a monic polynomial is separable, generalizing a result of Polak. Second, we introduce the notion of two polynomials being strongly coprime and calculate the probability of two monic polynomials being strongly coprime. Finally, we explain how our method can be used to extrapolate other probabilistic properties of polynomials over the ring of p-adic integers from polynomials defined over the integers modulo powers of p.

We show how basic orders for defect two blocks of symmetric groups over the ring of p-adic integers can be constructed by purely combinatorial means.

Theory of dynamical systems in fields of p-adic numbers is an important part of algebraic and arithmetic dynamics. The study of p-adic dynamical systems is motivated by their applications in various areas of mathematics, e.g., in physics, genetics, biology, cognitive science, neurophysiology, computer science, cryptology, etc.In particular, p-adic dynamical systems found applications in cryptography, which stimulated the interest to nonsmooth dynamical maps. An important class of (in general) nonsmooth maps is given by 1-Lipschitz functions.In this thesis we restrict our study to the class of 1-Lipschitz functions and describe measure-preserving (for the Haar measure on the ring of p-adic integers) and ergodic functions.The main mathematical tool used in this work is the representation of the function by the van der Put series which is actively used in p-adic analysis. The van der Put basis differs fundamentally from previously used ones (for example, the monomial and Mahler basis) which are related to the algebraic structure of p-adic fields. The basic point in the construction of van der Put basis is the continuity of the characteristic function of a p-adic ball.Also we use an algebraic structure (permutations) induced by coordinate functions with partially frozen variables.In this thesis, we present a description of 1-Lipschitz measure-preserving and ergodic functions for arbitrary prime p.

Supergeometry and arithmetic geometry

Riesz products on the ring of p-adic integers are introduced and studied from the points of view of harmonic analysis and dynamical system relative to the shift transformation. We find necessary and sufficient conditions for a Riesz product to be invariant, quasi-invariant or quasi-Bernoulli. We study the mutual absolute continuity of two Riesz products and the almost everywhere convergence of lacunary series with respect to a Riesz product. We also compute the Hausdorff dimension and the energy dimension and prove a multifractal formalism for a given Riesz product.

Relation between the functors Hom and Tor over the ring of p-adic integers

A ring R with identity is called “clean” if every element of R is the sum of an idempotent and a unit, and R is called “strongly clean” if every element of R is the sum of an idempotent and a unit that commute. Strongly clean rings are “additive analogs” of strongly regular rings, where a ring R is strongly regular if every element of R is the product of an idempotent and a unit that commute. Strongly clean rings were introduced in Nicholson (1999) where their connection with strongly π-regular rings and hence to Fitting's Lemma were discussed. Local rings and strongly π-regular rings are all strongly clean. In this article, we identify new families of strongly clean rings through matrix rings and triangular matrix rings. For instance, it is proven that the 2 × 2 matrix ring over the ring of p-adic integers and the triangular matrix ring over a commutative semiperfect ring are all strongly clean.

The notion of a p-adic superspace is introduced and used to give a transparent construction of the Frobenius map on p-adic cohomology of a smooth projective variety over \({\mathbb{Z}_p}\) (the ring of p-adic integers), as well as an alternative construction of the crystalline cohomology of a smooth projective variety over \({\mathbb{F}_p}\) (finite field with p elements).

In this short note, we will study the existence of a vector space of continuous functions f:{mathbb {Z}}_prightarrow mathbb Q_p, where {mathbb {Z}}_p and {mathbb {Q}}_p are, respectively, the ring of p-adic integers and the field of p-adic numbers, such that each nonzero function does not satisfy the Luzin (N) property and the dimension of the vector space is the continuum.

We study finite automata representations of numerical rings. Such representations correspond to the class of linear p-adic automata that compute homogeneous linear functions with rational coefficients in the ring of p-adic integers. Finite automata act both as ring elements and as operations. We also study properties of transition diagrams of automata that compute a function f(x)= cx of one variable. In particular we obtain precise values for the number of states of such automata and show that for c > 0 transition diagrams are self-dual (this property generalises self-duality of Boolean functions). We also obtain the criterion for an automaton computing a function f(x)= cx to be a permutation automaton, and fully describe groups that are transition semigroups of such automata.

In this paper we consider a description of homomorphic and fully homomorphic cryptographic primitives in the p-adic model. This model describes a wide class of ciphers (including substitution ciphers, substitution ciphers streaming, keystream ciphers in the alphabet of p elements), but certainly not all. Homomorphic and fully homomorphic ciphers are used to ensure the credibility of remote computing, including cloud technology. Within considered p-adic model we describe all homomorphic cryptographic primitives with respect to arithmetic and coordinate-wise logical operations in the ring of p-adic integers \(\mathbb Z_p\). We show that there are no fully homomorphic cryptographic primitives for each pair of the considered set of arithmetic and coordinate-wise logical operations on \(\mathbb Z_p\).

Group rings of p-groups over the ring of p-adic integers

We report on the results and techniques of the author’s recent joint work with Richard Taylor, which analyzes in detail the bad reduction of certain Shimura varieties in order to prove the compatibility of local and global Langlands correspondences, obtaining as a consequence the local Langlands conjecture for GL(n) of a p-adic field. These Shimura varieties have natural models over p-adic integer rings, as moduli spaces for abelian varieties with additional structure. The starting point of the work with Taylor is the stratification of the special fiber of an integral model in minimal level, according to the isogeny type of the universal family of p-divisible groups attached to these abelian varieties Similar stratifications can conjecturally be constructed for any Shimura variety, and indeed are known to exist for most PEL types. Three experiments identified factors that did and did not enhance the formation of two-node four-member equivalence classes when training and testing were conducted with trials presented in a trace stimulus pairing two-response (SP2R) format. All trials contained two separately presented stimuli. Half of the trials, called within-class trials, contained stimuli from the same class while the other half, called cross class trials, contained stimuli from different classes. On within class trials, making a YES response was correct and making a NO response was wrong. On cross class trials, making a NO response was correct and making a YES response was wrong. In Experiment 1, similar intermediate percentages of participants (about 50%) formed classes, regardless of whether the responses were labeled YES and NO or SAME and DIFF. Response labeling thus did not influence class formation. Regardless of response labels, failures of class formation were primarily due to failure of class-indicative responding produced by within-class transitivity probes. In Experiment 2, only 50% of participants formed classes without prior training, as in Experiment 1, but 100% of participants formed equivalence classes after the establishment of a generalized transitivity repertoire by use of a programmed transitivity induction protocol. Experiment 3 examined two components of the programmed transitivity induction protocol and found that the exclusion of AC trials had no effect on the percentage of participants who formed equivalence classes, while presenting the stimulus sets in randomized order interfered with equivalence class formation. A further analysis found that a number of stimulus control topographies differentiated between individuals who did and did not form equivalence classes. In general, then, these experiments demonstrate that equivalence classes can be formed reliably when training and testing are conducted in an SP2R format, supporting the view that equivalence class formation can account for the development of conceptual categories in natural settings.
