A Compendium of Classification Techniques, Tools and Evaluation Datasets for Twitter Sentiment Analysis

Since the research of sentiment analysis is mostly concentrated in the field of sentiment analysis on Weibo, and there is less research on sentiment analysis of financial text, this thesis proposes a financial sentiment analysis model based on pre-training and TextCNN. First, the pre-trained model is used to initially extract the emotional features of the text. It can extract text features well, and can extract information between words at arbitrary intervals when processing text sequences. Then use the improved TextCNN to construct a sentiment analysis network to further extract the sentiment features of the text, effectively identify the sentiment of the text, and complete the sentiment analysis of financial text. This thesis conducts experiments on a balanced corpus data set based on financial texts, and compares it with other classic sentiment analysis algorithms. Experimental results show that the proposed method works best in the field of financial text sentiment analysis.

Due to the noise and informal language present in Twitter data, it is difficult to perform sentiment analysis on the platform. In recent years, a number of transformer models have been developed that can perform well in this type of task. This study aims to analyze the performance of these models on Twitter data. The study utilizes a publicly-available dataset of tweets with neutral, positive, or negative sentiment. It preprocesses the data and tokenizes it using WordPiece. Three transformer models are then tuned using the labeled tweets' pre-defined weights and the models' training weights from large language modeling projects. The models are trained on a 5-phased scale. The three models' performance was evaluated using various metrics, such as accuracy, recall, and F1 score. The results show that the models performed well overall, with ELECTRA leading the way with an accuracy of 85.8%, followed by XLNet and BERT with 84.3% and 84.5% accuracy, respectively. The study also looked into the hyperparameters' impact on the performance. It revealed that batch sizes and learning rates have a significant effect on the models' performance. The results indicate that the models performed better with larger batch sizes and lower learning rates. The study concluded that the three pre-trained transformer models, namely XLNet, ELECTRA, and BERT, were able to perform well in terms of their performance when it came to analyzing Twitter data. Their findings can be beneficial for those working in the field of sentiment analysis on social media platforms.

In this paper, the focus is on sentiment analysis of web 3.0 enabled twitter dataset. The objective of the project is to explore various methods for performing sentiment analysis on Twitter datasets and implementing these methods on the web3.0 Twitter platform. The project involves collecting Twitter data through blockchain-based applications, preprocessing the data to remove noise, and applying machine learning models for sentiment analysis. Sentiment analysis is simply the extraction of thoughts, ideas, opinions, and emotions from sources such as text, speech, tweets, and databases using natural language processing (NLP) This process involves text segmentation mentally makes it "good," "bad," and "neutral" groups. In addition, it is known by other terms such as objective evaluation, mindfulness mining, and rating extraction. Web 3.0, also known as Web3, represents the third contemplated iteration of the World Wide Web, which aspires to establish a connected, transparent and intelligent online environment Based on the concept of decentralization, blockchain technology and the implementation of token-based economies. The main outcome of the project is to gain insights into the sentiment of users by analyzing WEB3.0 enabled Twitter data. By implementing sentiment analysis techniques on a WEB3.0 enabled Twitter dataset, the project aims to contribute to the field of sentiment analysis and showcase the effectiveness of using WEB3.0 enabled for data collection and analysis. Sentiment analysis, also known as opinion mining, is an important task in natural language processing and data mining. It involves extracting and analyzing subjective information from textual data to determine the sentiment or opinion expressed by the author. With the advancement of technology and the widespread use of social media and online review platforms, it is increasingly important to understand users' opinions and sentiments regarding a particular product, service or issue. The purpose of this research is to present a comprehensive literature review on sentiment analysis techniques. This research utilizes the systematic literature review method. This method involves systematic steps in searching, evaluating, and analyzing relevant literature in the field of sentiment analysis. The literature search was conducted through scientific databases and other reliable sources. Relevant articles were then selected based on pre-determined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data from the selected articles were then comprehensively analyzed to identify the sentiment analysis techniques used and the key findings in the research. The results show that there are various techniques and approaches that have been developed and tested in sentiment analysis, some of the commonly used techniques include rule-based methods, classification-based methods, and machine learning-based methods.

Purpose. Microblogging sites are being used by people across the globe to share their opinions and to express sentiments for everything in real time. Through social listening, companies analyse the sentiments to assess the way forward, and the researchers use it to analyse the trend or an event and give forward-looking recommendations. The objective of the paper is to analyse the sentiments of people relating to Paytm IPO which can be used to predict the way forward. Design/methodology/approach. The study attempts sentiment analysis. For this purpose, QSR NVIVO 12, the qualitative analysis tool was used to retrieve the tweets from the Twitter website. NCapture was installed for this purpose. Post data cleaning, stemming, query augmentation and classification, the Twitter data was analysed. Findings. The sentiments around the IPO of Paytm have been negative and sarcastic. The extremely negative tweets were near twice the number of extremely positive tweets. Practical implication. The study can help an investor in evaluating the investment that they might be planning in the given company. For the company, whose IPO is being considered, an analysis of the sentiments around the IPO can help in taking corrective measures, if the sentiment is negative, towards reputation building. Originality/value. The study is an original contribution to the extant literature in the field of sentiment analysis.

Objective: To make an extensive analysis of sentiment within the discourse surrounding COVID-19 vaccines on Twitter, employing Natural Language Processing (NLP) methodologies. Method: The research methodology encompasses data collection via the Twitter API, followed by sentiment analysis facilitated by the TextBlob library. Pre-processing stages are integrated to cleanse and standardize the Twitter data. Subsequently, sentiment analysis categorizes tweets into positive, negative, and neutral sentiments based on polarity scores. Findings: The findings, grounded in a dataset spanning from March 1, 2022, to April 30, 2022, comprising 61,934 tweets, unveil that 45.0% of tweets conveyed positive sentiment, 17.3% exhibited negativity, and 37.7% maintained neutrality. Moreover, an exploration of tweet subjectivity revealed that 70.1% of the content expressed subjectivity, while 29.9% conveyed objectivity. The research is augmented with visual representations, including word clouds and subjectivity-polarity graphs, that offer a more intuitive understanding of sentiment trends. Novelty: This study contributes to the expanding landscape of sentiment analysis and its application within the context of public health crises, empowering stakeholders with valuable knowledge to enhance vaccine acceptance and effectiveness. The tool used “Tweet Downloader” in data collection makes this study different from other reviewed studies. Sentiment analysis of scientific citations has received much attention in recent years because of the increased availability of scientific publications. Scholarly databases are valuable sources for publications and citation information where researchers can publish their ideas and results. Sentiment analysis of scientific citations aims to analyze the authors’ sentiments within scientific citations. During the last decade, some review papers have been published in the field of sentiment analysis. Despite the growth in the size of scholarly databases and researchers’ interests, no one as far as we know has carried out an in-depth survey in a specific area of sentiment analysis in scientific citations. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of sentiment analysis of scientific citations. In this review, the process of scientific citation sentiment analysis is introduced and recently proposed methods with the main challenges are presented, analyzed and discussed. Further, we present related fields such as citation function classification and citation recommendation that have recently gained enormous attention. Our contributions include identifying the most important challenges as well as the analysis and classification of recent methods used in scientific citation sentiment analysis. Moreover, it presents the normal process, and this includes citation context extraction, public data sources, and feature selection. We found that most of the papers use classical machine learning methods. However, due to limitations of performance and manual feature selection in machine learning, we believe that in the future hybrid and deep learning methods can possibly handle the problems of scientific citation sentiment analysis more efficiently and reliably.

A hybrid machine learning model for sentiment analysis and satisfaction assessment with Turkish universities using Twitter data

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to analyze and compare the performance of two machine learning models, Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Multinomial Naive Bayes, in conducting sentiment analysis on YouTube comments related to the film "Dirty Vote." Methods: The study involved collecting YouTube comments and preprocessing the data through cleaning, labeling, and feature extraction using TF-IDF. The dataset was then divided into training and testing sets in an 80:20 ratio. Both the SVM and Multinomial Naive Bayes models were trained and tested, with their performance evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. Result: The results revealed that both models performed well in classifying sentiments, with SVM slightly outperforming Multinomial Naive Bayes in terms of accuracy and precision. Particularly, SVM showed superior performance in detecting positive comments, making it a more reliable model for this specific sentiment analysis task. Novelty: This study contributes to the field of sentiment analysis by providing a detailed comparative analysis of SVM and Multinomial Naive Bayes models on YouTube comments in the context of an Indonesian film. The findings highlight the strengths and weaknesses of each model, offering insights into their applicability for sentiment analysis tasks, particularly in analyzing social media content. This research also suggests potential future directions, including the exploration of advanced NLP techniques and different models to enhance sentiment analysis performance.

Sentiment Analysis is a method to identify, extract, and quantify people's feelings, opinions, or attitudes. The wealth of online data motivates organizations to keep tabs on customers' opinions and feelings by turning to sentiment analysis tasks. Along with the sentiment analysis, the emotion analysis of written reviews is also essential to improve customer satisfaction with restaurant service. Due to the availability of massive online data, various computerized methods are proposed in the literature to decipher text sentiments. The majority of current methods rely on machine learning, which necessitates the pre-training of large datasets and incurs substantial space and time complexity. To address this issue, we propose a novel unsupervised sentiment classification model. This study presents an unsupervised mathematical optimization framework to perform sentiment and emotion analysis of reviews. The proposed model performs two tasks. First, it identifies a review's positive and negative sentiment polarities, and second, it determines customer satisfaction as either satisfactory or unsatisfactory based on a review. The framework consists of two stages. In the first stage, each review's context, rating, and emotion scores are combined to generate performance scores. In the second stage, we apply a non-cooperative game on performance scores and achieve Nash Equilibrium. The output from this step is the deduced sentiment of the review and the customer's satisfaction feedback. The experiments were performed on two restaurant review datasets and achieved state-of-the-art results. We validated and established the significance of the results through statistical analysis. The proposed model is domain and language-independent. The proposed model ensures rational and consistent results.

With the explosive growth of social media, the online community can freely express their opinions without disclosing their identities. People with hidden agendas can easily post fake opinions to discredit target products, services, politicians, or organizations. With these big data, monitoring opinions and distilling their sentiments remain a formidable task because of the proliferation of diverse sites with a large volume of opinions that are portrayed in multilingual. Therefore, this paper aims to provide a systematic literature review on multilingual sentiment analysis, which summarises the common languages supported in multilingual sentiment analysis, pre-processing techniques, existing sentiment analysis approaches, and evaluation models that have been used for multilingual sentiment analysis. By following the systematic literature review, the findings revealed, most of the models supported two languages, and English is seen as the most used language in sentiment analysis studies. None of the reviewed literature has catered the combination of languages for English, Chinese, Malay, and Hindi language on multilingual sentiment analysis. The common pre-processing techniques for the multilingual domain are tokenization, normalization, capitalization, N-gram, and machine translation. Meanwhile, the sentiment analysis classification techniques for multilingual sentiment are hybrid sentiment analysis, which includes localized language analysis, unsupervised topic clustering, and then followed by multilingual sentiment analysis. In terms of evaluation, most of the studies used precision, recall, and accuracy as the benchmark for the results.

Objectives: This study aims to prepare a corpus and explore sentiment analysis in the Amharic language, which is increasingly used due to the growth of both the language and the Internet. Methods: The study acquired 23,646 Amharic tweets from Twitter using the Twitter API, cleaned and normalized the text through preprocessing, and manually annotated the data as positive, negative, or neutral by three annotators. The study utilized a multi-scale sentiment analysis approach to experimentally evaluate the classifier\'s performance and compare different ML and DL classifiers. Findings: The study found that sentiment analysis in the Amharic language in this dataset showed that the KNN classifier could classify texts with an accuracy of 76% and 90% accuracy using the CNN deep learning classifier. Novelty: This study contributes to the field of sentiment analysis by addressing the scarcity of an Amharic-language dataset specifically tailored for sentiment analysis purposes. Our approach involves filling this critical research gap by developing a new dataset. Subsequently, we employ machine learning and deep learning classifiers to assess the viability of this dataset for performing multi-class sentiment analysis tasks in the Amharic language. The sentiment analysis process that gives this work its name is the main theme of the work. Since the beginning of 2000, sentiment analysis has become one of the most active research areas by researchers working on natural language processing and social networking analysis. In addition, data mining, web mining, and text mining are also studied extensively. Moreover, the method of sentiment analysis has spread over many fields, from computer science to management science, from social science to economics, due to the importance given to the business world as a whole and the collectivity. In this study, Konstanz Information Miner (KNIME), which is a powerful data mining tool with its richest features and many visualization tools, was used on twitter data. Ten thousand Twitter data were used in this study. The sentiment analysis study, which is in fact a classification study, was conducted using machine learning algorithms on Twitter data. The results of the study were interpreted by carrying out an accuracy analysis. It is anticipated that the use of the KNIME, which has rich visualization tools, will be widespread in sentiment analysis studies to make these works both easier and more reliable.

This study investigates the trends and challenges in information science with a special focus on political tweets. The past decade has witnessed a transformation in information mining, extraction and production using algorithms on social media platforms. The unique data structure of Twitter has gained scholarly attention for its intelligence to produce voluminous information which is convenient and rapid. But the efficiency of Twitter as a platform to obtain political knowledge remains a question. Various socio-technological research methods have emerged making Twitter an integrated topic of study for scholars from media studies, computer science and information science. The big data environment provides hashtags, @-mentions, and various digital affordances necessitating its study to be an integral part of social science research. Thus, the systematic literature review aims to examine tweeting patterns of political leaders to study variables such as ideology diffusion, polarization, political issues, digital campaigns etc. The study also examines computational research methods to retrieve Twitter data pertaining to political information. Academic investigation consists of approaches to automated data collection on Twitter, pre-processing techniques using R and Python, machine learning procedures and sentiment analysis used on Twitter data. The study showcases India’s stand in adopting the niche socio-technological methods in social science research.
