A Content Oriented Smart Education System based on Cloud Computing

An Up-to-Date Compendium on the Physics and Mathematics of Polarization Phenomena Polarized Light and the Mueller Matrix Approach thoroughly and cohesively integrates basic concepts of polarization phenomena from the dual viewpoints of the states of polarization of electromagnetic waves and the transformations of these states by the action of material media. Through selected examples, it also illustrates actual and potential applications in materials science, biology, and optics technology. The book begins with the basic concepts related to two- and three-dimensional polarization states. It next describes the nondepolarizing linear transformations of the states of polarization through the Jones and Mueller–Jones approaches. The authors then discuss the forms and properties of the Jones and Mueller matrices associated with different types of nondepolarizing media, address the foundations of the Mueller matrix, and delve more deeply into the analysis of the physical parameters associated with Mueller matrices. The authors proceed to interpret arbitrary decomposition and other interesting parallel decompositions as well as compare the powerful serial decompositions of depolarizing Mueller matrix M. They also analyze the general formalism and specific algebraic quantities and notions related to the concept of differential Mueller matrix. The book concludes with useful approaches that provide a geometric point of view on the polarization effects exhibited by different types of media. Suitable for novices and more seasoned professionals, this book covers the main aspects of polarized radiation and polarization effects of material media. It expertly combines physical and mathematical concepts with important approaches for representing media through equivalent systems composed of simple components.

Internationally, there are indications of an increasing trend in suicide contagion and clustering, which has been associated with contemporary communication technology and continuous communication across jurisdictions. Research has indicated varying effects related to different types of media and media contents in terms of impacts on suicidal behaviour. A comprehensive literature search was conducted into research addressing different types of media and media contents and the impact on suicide contagion and clustering, covering January 2003 - February 2021. Across the 41 selected studies, we identified consistency in terms of both increased quantity of media reports and portrayal of specific details of suicide cases, including celebrities and fictional cases, to be significantly associated with suicide contagion and increased suicide rates or mass clusters, with significant impacts on increased risk of suicide contagion within the first days up to the first three monthsfollowing the media coverage. The impact of potentially harmful content and the portrayal of suicide and self-harm via internet sites and social media on suicide contagion and clustering was largely consistent with research into impacts involving traditional media. The findings underline the need to prioritise implementation and adherence to media guidelines for reporting suicide for media professionals, online and social media outlets.

For efficently caching mixed-media, this paper discusses several network-adaptive cache management schemes. Considering the characteristics of different types of media, we first proposed a multi-level page-size management scheme. Then, a media-characteristic-weighted replacement policy is presented to improve the hit ratio of mixed media including continuous and noncontinuous media. Lastly, a network-condition- and media-quality-adaptive resource management mechanism is described to dynamically re-allocate cache resource for different types of media according to their request patterns. Simulation results demonstrate effectiveness of our propsoed approaches.

The purpose of this study was to compare the learning motivation of students who used graphic learning media and those who used word walls. In addition, the purpose of this study was to determine whether or not there were significant differences between the two types of educational media. A quantitative experiment was conducted for the purpose of this study on students from Pajawankidul Elementary School enrolled in grade III A. The experimental class consisted of students from grade III A, while the second experimental class consisted of students from grade III B. When conducting the sampling method, a number of different types of media, such as word walls and photos, were used. The sample included a total of twenty male students and twenty-eight female students. The total number of students participating in the sample was twenty. Students in grades III A and III B who were studying science showed various learning interests when they were exposed to word walls and image learning media on their computers, according to the conclusions of the study presented. Third-grade students of Pajawankidul Elementary School had better learning motivation when they utilized word walls as one type of media compared to visual media.

Foundations of Blueprint for Cloud-Based Service Engineering

By the development of information and communication technology, media have experienced expansion, especially in the types of media content and their multiplication and distribution, as well as in the ways of access to the media content itself. Due to this fact, the influence of media on all age groups, especially children and young people, is becoming more and more important, and research more intense. Therefore, special attention has to be paid to the understanding of media content and its critical evaluation by the receivers. Based on the conducted survey, the difference between attitudes and opinions on media literacy between the undergraduate students as potential students of Journalism and public relations and graduate students of Journalism and public relations, who will by their professional work actively participate in creating media content apart from consuming media content, has been analysed. Within this research special attention has been paid to the understanding of media literacy, the way of media usage, as well as to the possibilities of access to media and media content. The method of the descriptive statistics was used in the presentation and interpretation of the obtained results.

Background: The integration of mobile computing and cloud computing has the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery by providing ubiquitous access to resources and enabling new service development and delivery models. While cloud computing has been extensively studied in fields such as genomics and molecular medicine, its application in healthcare beyond these domains remains relatively unexplored. This scoping review aims to identify the current state and emerging research topics in cloud computing in healthcare outside of the traditional “OMICS context.” Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in MEDLINE in July 2013 and December 2014 using keywords related to cloud computing and cloud-based services. The identified journal and conference articles were independently categorized and summarized by two researchers, who subsequently consolidated their findings. Results: A total of 102 publications were analyzed, revealing six main topics in cloud computing in healthcare: telemedicine/teleconsultation, medical imaging, public health and patient self-management, hospital management and information systems, therapy, and secondary use of data. Common features utilized in these applications included broad network access for data sharing and access, as well as rapid elasticity to meet computing demands. While some articles highlighted the cost-effectiveness of pay-per-use cloud services, only 14 articles reported successful implementations, with many publications focusing on conceptual or prototypic projects. Additionally, several articles equated cloud computing with internet-/web-based data sharing, failing to illustrate the unique benefits of the cloud computing paradigm. Conclusions: Although the integration of mobile computing and cloud computing in healthcare is gaining attention, successful implementations in the field are still limited. Many papers use the term “cloud” interchangeably with “virtual machines” or “web-based” without clearly demonstrating the advantages of the cloud paradigm. Data safety and security concerns associated with involving external cloud partners remain significant barriers to adoption in the healthcare domain. As of now, cloud computing is primarily favored for its individual features, such as elasticity, pay-per-use models, and broad network access, rather than as a comprehensive cloud computing paradigm.

Emotion is an intriguing and mysterious psychological phenomenon. While everyone
\nseems to know what it is, researchers have not yet come to consensus on its definition, and many questions still remain unanswered. While the nature of emotion is yet to discover, the design community has noticed is importance, and poses the challenge of how emotion could inform design. We see the necessity to follow the state of the art in psychology and initiate the undertaking by exploring the emotional qualities in various types of media content. The first part of this thesis aims at constructing a theoretical framework. Recent years have seen empirical studies suggest that emotion could be unconscious. While this is to be further justified, scientists are motivated to reconsider current theories of emotion to account for this phenomenon. In light of this, we integrate these studies about unconscious emotion into our literature review. An overview from theory to practice is illustrated to provide a reference for viewing the current states in application domains, such as affective computing and emotional design. This review offers a holistic understanding about emotion from various perspectives, which allow us to look for new directions in future studies.
\nBased on our review, we see a promising direction by applying psychoanalysis methods to analyze the media content as affective stimuli, and these stimuli can be evaluated by using quantitative measures to investigate the connection between the content and the corresponding emotions. The analysis on the media content is based on a psychoanalysis theory"the theory of archetypes" proposed by Carl Jung. He argues that there exists a universal pattern in humans' unconscious thoughts, which can be manifested as symbolic content in various forms of narratives, such as myth and fairy tales. Today, this archetypal
\nsymbolic content can be seen in modern media, particularly in movies. By applying the Jungian approach, we analyzed the symbolic meaning in movie scenes and edit these feature scenes into a collection of archetypal media content, which serve as the experimental materials for later explorations.
\nIn the second part of this thesis, we present three experimental studies that aim at determining if archetypal media content can be differentiated based on emotional responses. 
\nWe adopted the psychoanalytical approach described earlier to collect feature scenes in movies as archetypal media content. Meanwhile, affective stimuli of explicit emotions are also included as benchmarks for comparison, such as sadness and joy. Self-reports and physiological signals are both adopted for measuring emotional responses. These three studies follow similar experimental design: presenting stimuli and measuring emotion concurrently. The results of these studies confirm that emotions induced by archetypal content are different from explicit emotions, and the statistical analysis further indicate that the predictive model obtained from physiological signals outperforms the model generated
\nfrom self-reports while viewing archetypal media content. These results, however, are opposite to the results gained from affective stimuli of explicit emotions, leading us to the conclusion that archetypal media content might induce unconscious emotions, and physiological signals are more effective than self-reportsfor recognizing emotions induced by archetypal media content.

Portable media consoles are becoming extremely popular devices for viewing a number of different types of media content, both for entertainment and for educational purposes. Given the increasingly heavy use of portable consoles as an alternative to traditional television-style monitors, it is important to investigate how physiological and psychological effects of portable consoles may differ from those of television-based consoles, because such differences in physiological and psychological responses may precipitate differences in the delivered content's effectiveness. Because portable consoles are popular as a delivery system for multiple types of media content, such as movies and video games, it is also important to investigate whether differences between the effects of portable and television-based consoles are consistent across multiple types of media. This article reports a 2 x 2 (console: portable or television-based x medium: video game or movie) mixed factorial design experiment with physiological arousal and self-reported flow experience as dependent variables, designed to explore whether console type affects media experiences and whether these effects are consistent across different media. Results indicate that portable media consoles evoke lower levels of physiological arousal and flow experience and that this effect is consistent for both video games and movies. These findings suggest that even though portable media consoles are often convenient compared to television-based consoles, the convenience may come at a cost in terms of the user experience.

BackgroundThis observational study assessed the relation between mass media campaigns and service volume for a statewide tobacco cessation quitline and stand-alone web-based cessation program.MethodsMultivariate regression analysis was used to identify how weekly calls to a cessation quitline and weekly registrations to a web-based cessation program are related to levels of broadcast media, media campaigns, and media types, controlling for the impact of external and earned media events.ResultsThere was a positive relation between weekly broadcast targeted rating points and the number of weekly calls to a cessation quitline and the number of weekly registrations to a web-based cessation program. Additionally, print secondhand smoke ads and online cessation ads were positively related to weekly quitline calls. Television and radio cessation ads and radio smoke-free law ads were positively related to web program registration levels. There was a positive relation between the number of web registrations and the number of calls to the cessation quitline, with increases in registrations to the web in 1 week corresponding to increases in calls to the quitline in the subsequent week. Web program registration levels were more highly influenced by earned media and other external events than were quitline call volumes.ConclusionOverall, broadcast advertising had a greater impact on registrations for the web program than calls to the quitline. Furthermore, registrations for the web program influenced calls to the quitline. These two findings suggest the evolving roles of web-based cessation programs and Internet-use practices should be considered when creating cessation programs and media campaigns to promote them. Additionally, because different types of media and campaigns were positively associated with calls to the quitline and web registrations, developing mass media campaigns that offer a variety of messages and communicate through different types of media to motivate tobacco users to seek services appears important to reach tobacco users. Further research is needed to better understand the complexities and opportunities involved in simultaneous promotion of quitline and web-based cessation services.

Cross-modal retrieval is a hot topic in the fields of machine learning and media retrieval, making it possible to relate different types of media, such as image, text, and audio. A powerful method for the cross-modal retrieval, discrete cross-modal hashing (DCH), has recently been proposed. The DCH can encode different types of media feature vectors to binary codes. When stored in a database, the binary code makes searches efficient because the Hamming distance between the corresponding sections of two binary codes can be computed via a specialized CPU operation. Moreover, it has recently been shown that when optimizing hash functions for supervised discrete hashing (SDH), Hadamard matrices can be used, and this technique is named “HC-SDH”. In this study, we apply the HC-SDH to cross-modal hashing. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed cross-modal hashing can achieve the same performance as the conventional DCH with 1/24 of the training time.

The substantial demand for English translation services in cloud computing necessitates resource allocation and management. This study enhances the allocation and administration of English translation resources in cloud computing. This study enhances cloud-based English translation services and influences language translation, natural language processing, and cloud computing. This research aims to provide a pragmatic method for the complex challenge of effectively allocating and managing English translation resources inside cloud computing networks. The algorithm is used to assess allocation and management techniques based on the characteristics of the ongoing activities and the status of the cloud network. The features include the computing capacity of edge servers and devices, the quality of the communication channel, the efficacy of translation resource use, and the latency requirements of the services. The proposed model can autonomously learn about the network environment and make decisions about resource allocation to enhance performance and minimize latency. The ability of cloud computing to project future trajectories from an initial state to ascertain the ideal action by evaluating reward values is a principal benefit of the system. This capability enables the system to choose the optimal course of action. The proposed strategy achieves substantial improvements in key performance indicators, including a 36.4% reduction in average service latency, a 24.7% gain in resource utilization, and a 3.5% improvement in translation accuracy. Additionally, the approach demonstrates excellent scalability, handling increased workloads with minimal impact on performance, and reduces costs associated with translation services, making it a cost-effective solution for cloud-based translation. These findings, supported by the results of our Monte Carlo simulations presented significant implications for the development of efficient and cost-effective cloud-based translation services.

Accidents and collisions continue to be an ongoing problem in road safety. While driving, drivers are influenced by stimuli that can affect their behaviour in various ways. Nowadays, various types of multimedia devices have become popular, which, when used by drivers while driving, can influence driver attention. The literature undertakes studies of the impact of such devices on the driver's degree of distraction as measured, for example, by the driver's reaction time. A survey was conducted to identify sources of driver distraction. A total of 237 drivers aged between 18 and 78 years participated in the sample. Of the respondents, 64.6% use a mobile phone while driving, 20.3% use a smartwatch, 33.3% use a multimedia control system for vehicle functions. Respondents indicated that they had either witnessed (18.1%) or been involved (6.3%) in a collision/accident when the driver used various types of multimedia devices while driving. Of those surveyed, 2.1% had caused a collision or accident by using a multimedia device while driving. Respondents are aware of the risks of using different types of media devices while driving, but they still use them. The analyses of the survey data will be used in future research using a car simulator.
