A novel slotted broadband microstrip patch antenna

In this paper a novel design of a Slotted Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antenna with perturbation in ground plane is described which increases the interference rejection frequency bandwidth. A comparative study is also shown between two antenna with identical radiating element, one with a perturbed ground plane and another without perturbation. The proposed antenna is designed for operation at both the signal frequencies 1.9 GHz and 2.4 GHz. The results are obtained by modeling and simulation using Ansoft HFSS software tools. The result shows almost 13.5% interference rejection bandwidth at −10dB return loss without ground plane perturbation. Rejection bandwidth increased to 18.2 % with the use of ground plane perturbation in the same patch antenna.

In this paper a slotted microstrip patch antenna has been designed that works for two frequencies 1.42GHz and 2.65GHz. Since a microstrip patch antenna works only on one resonant frequency so converting that into a multiband patch antenna would enhance the bandwidth and also utilizes the multiple frequencies of operation. This multiband slotted patch antenna is fabricated on FR4 lossy dielectric substrate whose dielectric constant is 4.3 and height is 1.6mm. The length and width of patch are taken as 51.16mm and 39.86mm respectively. we cut out the slots so that the patch antenna works at multiple frequencies. Another advantage of presented design is it reduced the size of antenna actually required for 1.42GHz frequency. Simulation and analysis of slotted patch antenna is done by CST software. Simulation and fabrication results show that the presented antenna design characteristics meet with the standard characteristics of antenna.

An analysis and equivalent circuit model for an H-shape cross slotted aperture-coupled microstrip patch antenna (ACMPA) are presented. The study in the paper helps us to understand better the antenna property and also provides an easy way to design the antenna. The ACMPA consists of three conductor layers such as patch, ground plane, and feed line. The coupling exists in two places. One between the patch and a slot in the ground and the other between the slot and the feed line are represented by the ideal transformers. To calculate the turn ratio of the ideal transformer effectively the reciprocity theorem and the spectral-domain immittance approach are used. Moreover, vertical slots of `H' slot are considered as the reactive loads. The H-shape cross-slotted ACMPA operating at 3 GHz and 5 GHz simultaneously is fabricated. The good agreement between theoretical and measured results is shown.

MEMS reconfigurable circular-rectangular shaped slotted microstrip patch antenna is designed for the cognitive radio application. Main problem in cognitive radio networks is to utilize the available bandwidth effectively so that reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna is preferred. By utilizing the unused spectrum bandwidth can be utilized in efficient manner which in turn will increases the overall performances of the system. Reconfiguration can be done with tree different types of techniques which are frequency, pattern, and polarization. Here frequency reconfiguration technique is used with the help of MEMS switches. PSO and Nature inspired optimization algorithms are used for sensing and optimization of patch antenna. Microstrip line feed and FR4 substrate is used. Slots are introduced in this system to reduce the return loss and to improve the gain. Two different shapes of antennas are incorporated into that same substrate which helps to operate the antenna in various frequencies. Patch antenna is designed to operate within (2 to 5) GHz frequency range.

In this article, compact slotted rectangular patch antenna for wireless body area network (WBAN) applications. The designed antenna radiates at the resonance frequency of 5810MHz in free space and with body phantom model. The intended WBAN antenna design is simulated in free space as well as with human body phantom. The simulated antenna resonate frequency at 5810MHz with impedance bandwidth of 90MHz and 60MHz in free space and human body phantom respectively. The volume of the proposed rectangular slotted patch antenna is 64mm×52mm×0.857mm (3.26λ <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0</inf> ×2.65λ <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0</inf> ×0.044λ <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0</inf> ). The proposed antenna broad side gain is 7.93dBi in free space and 7.67dBi with human body phantom. The width of the slot is chosen to optimize the impedance matching in biomedical application frequency range. The parametric analysis of antenna has been done to achieve the best performance of antenna for biomedical applications. The proposed antenna has been modelled and simulated using CST microwave suite with appropriate boundary conditions. The efficiency of slotted planar antenna is 94.8% without body phantom and 89.4% with human body phantom. An attempt has been made to propose patch antenna for achieving the impedance bandwidth within Spectrum range of Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN).The maximum SAR value of the intended antenna is within the range, as specified by IEEE safety guidelines.

Microstrip patch antennas are mostly due to their versatility in terms of possible geometries that makes them applicable for many different situations. The lightweight construction and the suitability for integration with microwave integrated circuits are two more of their numerous advantages. A single layer, single feed compact slotted patch antenna is thoroughly simulated in this paper. The aim of this work is to design and to implement a microstrip patch antenna array that meets the requirements of a microwave communications system. Resonant frequency has been reduced drastically by cutting `Two hexagonal and a circular' like shape slots from the conventional microstrip patch antenna. For the design of the antenna, simulation tool software IE3D, based on the Method of Moments (MoM) was used. After simulating and optimizing a single element proposed antenna that achieved satisfactory measurement results with also size has been reduced by 80.22% when compared to a Conventional microstrip patch antenna.

In this paper, we have proposed a Slotted Microstrip Patch Antenna with a Defected Ground Structure (DGS). Here, we have integrated the concept of DGS and Slotted Patch Antenna in order to get enhanced bandwidth and gain. The proposed antenna consists of a microstrip fed slotted rectangular patch with E-shaped cut in the ground plane. The performance of this antenna is discussed and analyzed with the variations in patch width and number of slots. The variations in Return Loss (S11), Radiation Pattern and Gain of the designed antenna are analyzed for different case studies. The antenna shows a dual band characteristics having a return loss of below −20 dB at 3.2–3.5 GHz and below −10 dB at 5.6–5.8 GHz, which is suitable for IEEE 802.16 WiMAX and IEEE11p WLAN applications. CST MWS 2015 is used to simulate the antenna structure.

This paper reported a design of a semicircular slotted microstrip patch antenna which has low loss and high gain, also suitable for ISM band applications. The antenna is fed through the coaxial probe and resonates at ISM band frequency of 2.4 GHz. The dimension of microstrip slotted patch is 8.3×7.1×0.16 cm3. This slotted patch is designed on the Rogers RT/Duroid substrate with relative permittivity of 2.2. The designed antenna is simulated using High-Frequency Structural Simulator software which gives the result with a return loss of − 39.5782 dB, VSWR of 1.0212 at 2.4 GHz and the total gain of 7.67dB. It is very compact and very easy to fabricate. The proposed slotted antenna is highly suitable for wireless communication of various ISM band applications like as W-LAN, WiFi, ZigBee, and Bluetooth etc.

This paper presents and demonstrates the necessity of microstrip patch and slot antennas for RFID applications. Various microstrip patch and slot antennas fed by a feed line designed on a 2.2 permittivity Rogers Duriod substrate are considerably studied and comprehensively analyzed as new and authentic new design approaches antennas. The antennas have been designed using the 3D EM High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) V11. The microstrip patch (MSPA) design 1 provides a total antenna gain of 1.87 dBi, a return loss (S11) of −5.5 dB. while the micro strip patch slot antenna (MSPSA) design 2 have achieved a total antenna gain of 6.017 dBi and a return loss (S11) of −23.8 dB at 865 MHz for 60 mm patch length. The other micro strip patch slot antennas (MSPSA) designs have achieved a total antenna gain of 5.92 dBi, 4.48 dBi and at S11 12 dB, 6.87 dB respectively. Modeling and optimization of the one slot MSPSA design 2 have produced the most optimized results hence the MSPSA design 2 is an attractive antenna solution for RFID applications.

Objectives: To design new multiband antennas based on slotted rectangular patch antenna moisture sensor with comparative results to each other. The moisture sensors is compact size, easy design, low cost and have high quality responses which can be applied for determination of soil moisture measurement. A frequency reconfigurable antenna is presented with operating frequency between 2GHz to 5GHz. Methods/Statistical Analysis: A reconfigurable microstrip patch sensor is designed by using a slotted rectangular patch antenna for determination of soil moisture measurement. The length and width of the ground and patch is 30mm and 25mm as well as three slotted on the patch for accuracy. It is designed on FR-4 substrate with a relative dielectric constant 4.4 and thickness 1.6mm which is simulated by CST software as well as gets the magnitude and phase of modified design. Findings: The proposed antenna exhibits multi-frequency behavior. The modified antenna is capable for measuring the moisture between 2GHz to 5GHz. At these frequencies slotted rectangular patch antenna moisture sensor produces return loss 25dBi and capable for measure the moisture in soil with accuracy. When the resonant frequency is decreased with increase the moisture level. It will be designed for measuring the accuracy with a less time as well as triple resonant frequencies. The moisture content can be minimum and maximum at different frequencies and that can be considered for the better implementation of the approach by using the vector network analyzer. Applications/Improvements: In this paper a compact frequency reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna as a moisture sensor is presented with good return loss as well as resonant frequency for measuring the moisture in soil with accuracy as compare with the conventional one.

A slotted patch antenna is proposed for near-field and far-field ultra high frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) applications. By slotting the patch, the antenna is able to produce strong and uniform magnetic field in the near field and generate the circularly-polarized radiation in the far field. The fabricated antenna (90 mm × 90 mm × 4.5 mm) with 10-dB return loss and 3-dBic gain from 913 MHz to 924 MHz, achieves a 100% reading rate for arbitrary oriented near-field tag over a distance of 35 mm and offers a far-field tag reading up to 3.6 m. The antenna is suitable for portable near-field and far-field UHF RFID readers.

A compact feed poly line slotted rectangular microstrip patch antenna with defected ground surface has been proposed in this paper for the wireless LANs, Bluetooth, and WiFi applications. The patch is designed based on a polyline slot and with defected ground structure. The simulated and fabricated models of demonstrated antenna exhibit better return loss, bandwidth, acceptable gain, and other antenna parameters over the required frequency range and the central frequency of 2.4 GHz is a worldwide free spectrum ISM band. The proposed antenna is fabricated using a highly sensitive PCB technique, and fabricated antenna parameters have been achieved compared to simulated results. The simulated and fabricated results conclude less than 3% error among them and owing to the proposed method, miniaturization of antenna achieved with a gain of 5 dB.

In this article, authors have designed a slotted microstrip patch antenna comprising of a circular ring embedded in the center. Initially, the designed conventional patch antenna operates at 2.45 GHz. However, when two slots are etched on both ends of the patch, an additional resonant frequency band is obtained at 5.8 GHz, which reduces to 5 GHz when an annular ring is inserted between these two slots. The gain and bandwidth of the designed antenna are 4 dBi and 400 MHz at 5 GHz and 8 dBi and 270 MHz at 2.45 GHz. Thus, the proposed antenna can accommodate both IEEE 802.11a Wi-Fi bands operating at 2.45 and 5 GHz. This dual band antenna is designed on 1.48 mm thick FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.3 and loss tangent of 0.01. The designed structure is excited by a SMA coaxial connector of 50-Ω. High Frequency Structure Simulator software (HFSS) is used for designing and simulating this antenna. This commercially available software is based on finite element method.

A dual band coaxial fed slotted microstrip patch antenna for THz application on FR4_epoxy substrate using T shape patches is designed and analysed. Slots are made by symmetrically cutting a copper sheet. Implementation of this structure offers a better directivity and radiation efficiency. Full wave simulation results showed that the THz band slot antenna works at 0.6326 THz and 0.8702 THz. Maximum gain is obtained as more than 8.2 dB. This THz slot antenna can be used for the application in various fields such as fast and secure data transferring, biomedical applications, radar and THz imaging, nanoantenna applications.

This paper presents a novel complementary CPWfed slotted microstrip patch antenna for operation at 2.4 GHz, 5.2 GHz and 6.3 GHz frequencies. The primary structure consists of the complementary split ring resonator slots on a patch and the design is fabricated on FR-4 epoxy substrate with substrate thickness of 1.6 mm. The described structure lacks the presence of a ground plane and makes use of a number of circular complementary SRRs along with rectangular slots on the radiating patch. The structure provides a wide bandwidth of around 390 MHz, 470 MHz and 600 MHz at the three bands with return losses of -11.5 dB, -24.3996dB and -24.4226 dB, respectively. The inclusion of the rectangular slots in the CSRR based slot antenna with stairecase structure improved the performance with respect to return loss.
