A support architecture to MDA contribution for data mining

Recent advances in computing, communications, digital storage technologies, and high-throughput data-acquisition technologies, make it possible to gather and store incredible volumes of data. It creates unprecedented opportunities for large-scale knowledge discovery from huge database. Data mining (DM) technology has emerged as a means of performing this discovery. There are countless researchers working on designing efficient data mining techniques, methods, and algorithms. Many data mining methods and algorithms have been developed and applied in a lot of application fields [1]. Unfortunately, most data mining researchers pay much attention to technique problems for developing data mining models and methods, while little to basic issues of data mining [2]. In this talk, some basic issues of data mining are addressed. What is data mining? What is the product of a data mining process? What are we doing in a data mining process? What is the rule we should obey in a data mining process? Through analyzing existing data mining methods, and domain-driven (or user-driven) data mining models [3-5], we find that we should take a data mining process as a process of knowledge transformation. Based on this understanding of data mining, a conceptual data mining model of domain-oriented data-driven data mining (3DM) is proposed [2]. The relationship between traditional domain-driven (or user-driven) data mining models and our proposed 3DM model is also analyzed. Some domain-oriented data-driven data mining algorithms for mining such knowledge as default rule [6], decision tree [7], and concept lattice [8] from database are proposed. The experiment results for these algorithms are also shown to illustrate the efficiency and performance of the knowledge acquired by our 3DM data mining algorithms.

Pavement deflection data are often used to evaluate a pavement’s structural condition nondestructively. Pavement layers are important parameters in view of bearing capacity. Pavement layer thickness may be known from the design project or site investigation. At the same time, using backcalculation analysis, flexible pavement layer thicknesses together with in situ material properties can also be backcalculated from the measured field data through appropriate analysis techniques. Data mining (DM) process has not been used as a backcalculation tool before. In this study, DM process is used in backcalculating the pavement layer thickness from deflections measured on the surface of the flexible pavements. Experimental deflection data groups from NDT are used to show the capability of the DM process in backcalculating the pavement layer thickness and compared each other. Performing the study, modeling with Kstar method gives fine results with respect to other DM modeling techniques. Backcalculation of pavement layer thickness using DM process has been carried out for the first time.

Traffic accidents are one of the major health problems that cause serious death in the world and ranks 9th in the world. Traffic accidents in Indonesia ranks 5th in the world. One effort to improve traffic safety is to design traffic accident prediction models. Prediction models will utilize accident-related data in traffic through data mining processing. The data warehouse offers benefits as a basis for data mining. Building an effective data warehouse requires knowledge and attention to key issues in database design, data acquisition and processing, as well as data access and security. This study is the first step in the development of data mining accidents based prediction system. The output of this initial stage is the design of data warehouses that can provide periodic and incidental data to the data mining process, especially in the prediction of accidents. The method used to design data warehouse is Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD).

In the past few years, several conceptual approaches have been proposed for the specification of the main multidimensional (MD) properties of the data warehouse (DW) repository. However, most of them deal with isolated aspects of the DW and do not provide designers with an integrated and standard method for designing the whole DW life cycle (ETL processes, data sources, DW repository and so on).Some approaches are depending on specific platform or neglecting important issues in DW design life cycle. Extraction-transformation-loading (ETL) processes play an important role in data warehouse architecture because they are responsible of integrating data from heterogeneous data sources into the DW repository. This paper proposes a conceptual model to refresh data warehouse by (insert, update, delete) data using ETL processes and considering DW security requirements. Firstly, the proposed ETL model is based on Unified Modeling Language (UML), which allows us to accomplish the conceptual modeling of ETL processes .secondly; this part focuses on how to integrate the proposed ETL model with the DW model. The proposed DW model depends on the Model Driven Architecture (MDA). MDA is a standard framework for software development that addresses the complete life cycle of designing, deploying, integrating, and managing applications by using models in software development. This paper proposes an integrated conceptual model for addressing temporal data warehouse security requirements (CMTDWS).

Analysing datasets using data mining techniques can enhance decision making in organizations. However, to ensure that the full potential of these techniques is realised it is important that decision makers understand there are Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDDM) processes that are mature enough to be adopted. This paper demonstrates the benefits of using a KDDM process to evaluate survey data for internet banking users in Jamaica which includes demographic as well as attitudinal and behavioral variables. The major benefits of following this process include the selection of a set of models, rather than a single model, which are more relevant to the business/research objectives and use of a more targeted knowledge discovery process as the data mining analyst is now directed to consider the effects the decisions in each phase will have on subsequent phases. This leads to more relevant knowledge being extracted from the data mining process.

As an analysis tool either of on-line analytical processing (OLAP) or data mining has its own strong points and weaknesses. It is an effective way to enhance the power and flexibility of data mining in data warehouses and large databases by integrating data mining with OLAP to offset their weaknesses. In the paper, a proposal of integrating data mining and OLAP is put forward. The mechanism of the on-line analytical data mining in data warehouses is described. Aspects which are necessary for developing a successful on-line analytical data mining system is also discussed.

Nowadays, the development and influence of technology in human life is very important, where the role of technology greatly influences the activities carried out by humans. In a company organization, technology is not only used as a process to speed up the processes carried out. The use of such important technology also increases the size or volume of available data information. A dataset is a collection of data obtained in a data warehouse. Data mining is a technique that is part of Knowledge Discovery in Database (KDD). Clustering is a grouping process carried out in data mining. The first problem that is central to the research is that the values obtained from the clustering process are sometimes still not considered optimal. The performance results of the data mining clustering algorithm cannot yet be fully used as a basis for decision making. Comparisons made in clustering data mining are used to assist in the decision making process. In this research, the algorithms that will be used for comparison of performance are the K-Means and K-Medoids algorithms. Another problem that needs special attention is the problem of data quality. The results obtained from the data mining process can be seen from the quality of the data stored or used in the data processing process. Normalization is part of preprocessing data mining which aims to re-reason it based on a new scale. Z-Score is a normalization carried out on data based on statistical functions. The results obtained in the research The role of normalization in the research is very important, this is because using Z-Score normalization can improve the performance of the K-Means and K-Medoids algorithms, this can be seen from the DBI value obtained which is smaller when normalization is carried out compared to before it is carried out normalization, which indicates that performance is better after normalization. In the comparison of algorithms, the K-Medoids algorithm gets better performance, this can be seen from the DBI value obtained at 0.773 at K=9 after normalization. Meanwhile, the K-Means algorithm obtained a value of 0.783 at K=9 after normalization as well

The data mining experiments from this chapter are a component of a larger research which is to be used to make several correlations, analysis in order to integrate data mining process in the managerial system for optimal decision support. I offered an insight of how data mining processes are being applied in the large spectrum of education by presenting recent applications and studies published in the scientific literature, considered to be relevant to the development of this emerging science. I presented my work through a number of experiments conducted over questionnaires data and scholastic databases at Faculty of Economics and Business Administration Cluj-Napoca, using classification learning and data clustering methods. In the last part of the chapter I introduced the concept of Academic Intelligence Management, and illustrated the integration of data mining processes and their particular role in higher education management and decision support. The studies will continue with deeper mining of educational topics, such as performance in scientific research, correlations between the students' knowledge and the competences demanded on the labor market, academic failure, to perceive what and how much the students know, to realize learning gaps, and also improve teaching methods and educational management processes.

SummaryThe Model‐Driven Architecture (MDA) is an approach that aligns modeling and automation for software development. By applying such an approach to data warehouse (DW) projects, we can minimize a great deal of time and cost. Furthermore, most of OnLine Analytical Processing (OLAP) platforms seem to be like black boxes that provide wizards only to business intelligence developers to create and manipulate OLAP objects without allowing their sustainability and migration from a platform to another. That is why many works in the literature have proposed using the MDA approach in DW projects. However, most of them have mainly focused on the generation of the DW relational model from the conceptual one, and they overlooked the OLAP model and the cube implementation.To deal with this problem, we propose in this paper an MDA solution to automate the process of getting OLAP cube and its implementation through a set of metamodels and automatic transformations among them. In fact, the proposal generates the OLAP and DW relational models (PSMs) from the conceptual one, using also a PDM model that describes the target business intelligence platform. After that, the source code to create the cube is got from both PSM models. For this aim, we define a set of transformation rules implemented using the Atlas transformation language. Finally, a case study will be provided to validate our approach.

This chapter presents an approach for designing secure Data Warehouses (DWs) that accomplish the conceptual modeling of secure DWs independently from the target platform where the DW has to be implemented, because our complete approach follows the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) and the Model Driven Security (MDS). In most of real world DW projects, the security aspects are issues that usually rely on the DBMS administrators. We argue that the design of these security aspects should be considered together with the conceptual modeling of DWs from the early stages of a DW project, and being able to attach user security information to the basic structures of a Multidimensional (MD) model. In this way, we would be able to generate this information in a semi or automatic way into a target platform and the final DW will better suits the user security requirements.

Data is identified as the fuel of modern society for its versatility of use and effectiveness of use. In addition, modern businesses are making a decline based on analysis of historical data and patterns of the data. Such dependency on data analysis makes the process of data analysis important for data mining. Therefore the overall study has shed light on the significance of the data mining process and extraction process of data in order to make a data-driven decision. Additionally, the problems related to the process of data extraction and data mining are mentioned in the study which helps to achieve an overall concept for the data extraction and data mining process. Additionally, the significance of the process is mentioned in the study. Additionally, there are tables constructed that represent problems of the data extraction process and mining and the significance of the stems of mining. The study concludes in a way that helps in the implication of data extraction methods for business.

What is the relationship between the prior knowledge of domain experts and the knowledgemind from data? In this paper, we will address these basic issues of data mining from the viewpoint of informatics [1]. Data is taken as a manmade format for encoding knowledge about the natural world. We take data mining as a process of knowledge transformation. A domain-oriented data-driven data mining (3DM) model based on a conceptual data mining model is proposed. Some data-driven data mining algorithms are also proposed to show the validity of this model, e.g., the data-driven default rule generation algorithm, data-driven decision tree pre-pruning algorithm and data-driven knowledge acquisition from concept lattice.

Increasing market competitiveness has led entrepreneurs to require more and more information from Information Technology areas to allow for efficient decision-making. Two alternatives to solving this problem are allied in this work: use of Model Driven Architecture (MDA) and Data Warehousing (DW). This research developed and tested a MDA cartridge. It creates scripts for automatic generation and loads DW based databases on the Online Transaction Processing Model (OLTP) through a MDA tool. With the use of this approach any change in the model would be a corresponding change in the scripts without manual rework.

Integrating MDA and SOA for improving telemedicine services

새로운 패러다임의 시스템 개발 접근 방법은 OMG(Object Management Group)에서 MDA(Model Driven Architecture)로 표준화하고 있다. MDA의 핵심 기술은 모델 중심의 시스템 구현을 위한 기술 구조를 정의하는 것으로 시스템의 설계 및 명세에 대한 구현 기술을 플랫폼 독립적 모델(PIM : Platform Independent Model)로 설계한 후, 구현 환경에 적합한 플랫폼 종속적 모델(PSM : Platform Specific Model)로 설계하여 구현환경에 맞는 언어로 변환하는 기술이다. MDA의 핵심인 MOF(Meta-Object Facility), UML, XMI(XML Metadata Interchange), CWM(Common Warehouse Metamodel) 표준 등이 포함된다. MDA 지원 자동화 툴들은 위의 정보들을 갖고 변환 작업을 수행한 후 실행 가능한 시스템으로 생산해 내는 것이다.[1] 본 논문에서는 MDA기반 접근 방법을 적용하여 학사관리 시스템을 설계 및 구현하고, MDA기반 접근 방법에 대한 모델링의 중요성을 강조하였다. 또한 소프트웨어를 효율적으로 개발하는 방법을 제시하여 플랫폼 독립적 모델(PIM)로 작성하고, 플랫폼 종속적 모델(PSM)을 J2EE 플랫폼 기반의 EJB(Enterprise Java Beans)로 변환하는 과정 등을 제시하였다. MDA를 지원하는 자동화 툴 및 편집기(Together Architect 2006 for Eclipse, Edit plus 2)와 데이터베이스 모델링 툴(ER/WIN 4.1)을 사용하여 시스템 설계 및 구현을 하였으며, 전통적 개발 프로세스와 MDA 기반 개발 프로세스에 대한 유효성 분석 결과를 제시하였다. The system development approach method of the new paradigm, as being standardizing MDA(Model Driven Architecture) in OMG(Object Management Group), the core technique of MDA definite technique structure for system materialization focusing on Model, is to build the design and the statement for system in PIM(Platform Independent Model), Materialization technique, and to build PSM(Platform Specific Model) adapt to materialization environment, and then to be the technique transforming into language Platform suitable to materialization environment. It includes MOF(Meta-Object Facility), UML, XMI(XML Metadata Interchange), CWM(Common Warehouse Metamodel), the core of MDA. Though these operations MDA support automatic tools product the practicable system after carrying out transform operation with the above information. In this thesis, it will be approached how to design and materialize the Bachelor management system based on MDA and the importance of modeling should be emphasized by applying to the approach method based on MDA. It should be suggested how to develop software efficiently, written it out in PIM, and suggested the process transforming PSM into EJB by J2EE Platform. The system is designed and implemented using automatic tool, edit machine(Together Architect 2006 for Eclipse, Edit plus2) supporting MDA and Database Modeling tool(ER/WIN 4.1). In conclusion, it should be suggested the efficiency analysis result for development process of traditional and based on MDA.
