Abstract

Review question / Objective How are smart insole prototypes being developed, implemented, and optimized, particularly with respect to sensor technologies, materials, design methodologies, wireless systems, and the integration of artificial intelligence? The objectives of the investigation are to map and summarize methodologies and design strategies in smart insole prototypes; identify key trends in sensor technologies, materials, hardware, software, and AI integration; assess the performance of existing prototypes, including accuracy, reliability, and usability; highlight limitations and challenges such as hardware constraints, dataset issues, and methodological gaps; and propose optimization pathways and future research directions for next-generation smart insole development. RationaleThe rationale of the study is based on the increasing importance of smart insole technology in biomechanics, healthcare, and athletic performance, particularly with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and wireless communication systems.Condition being studied Diabetic foot monitoring, fall risk assessment, rehabilitation monitoring, musculoskeletal disorders and even injury prevention in sports through the gathering and analysis of gait patterns, plantar pressure distribution and ground reaction forces.
