The findings from the conceptual content analysis of the data offer valuable insights into the transformative potential of ancient wisdom in modern contexts, enriching our understanding of holistic development. The results underscore the efficacy of Bhagavad-Gita principles in providing practical solutions to the challenges encountered by individuals of different ages across various facets of life.

BackgroundHolistic practices have been found beneficial for patients as well as nurses. They increase both the nurses and the patients’ health-promoting behaviors, spirituality, and interpersonal relationships.ObjectiveThis study aimed to determine holistic nursing care and compare its differences based on individual characteristics.MethodsThis study employed a quantitative-cross sectional approach. It was conducted at the hospitals of Hail region, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from February 2020 to March 2020. Selected through convenience sampling, 154 operating room nurses participated in the study. Frequency and percentages were used to analyze the demographic information, and t-tests and analysis of variance were used to test for differences.ResultsHolistic nursing dimensions such as physiological (4.72 ± 0.40), socio-cultural (4.53 ± 0.45), psychological (4.66 ± 0.32), and spiritual aspects (4.22 ± 0.73) were consistently carried out in the operating room. On the physiological dimension, no significant differences were found in years of experience [(t) -0.073; p > 0.942], gender [(t) -1.113; p > 0.27], or age [(F) 0.558; p > 0.57), but there was a significant difference with nationality [(t) -3.328; p < 0.001]. On the socio-cultural dimension, the length of experience [(t) 0.599; p > 0.550], gender, [(t) -1.420; p > 0.158], and age [(F) 0.148; p > 0.862] were not significant, but a significant difference was found with nationality [(t) -7.516; p < 0.001]. Regarding the psychological dimension, the length of experience [(t) -1.101; p > 0.276], gender [(t) -1.545; p > 0.129], and age [(F) 1.259; p > 0.287] were not significant, but there was a significant difference with nationality [(t) -5.492; p < 0.001]. Finally, with the spiritual dimension, no significant difference was found on length of experience [(t) -1.101; p > 0.276] or age [(F) 0.584; p > 0.559], but there were significant differences on gender [(t) -3.890; p < 0.001] and nationality [(t) -3.653; p < 0.001].ConclusionNationality is a causal factor to physiological, socio-cultural, psychological, and spiritual dimensions, while gender is significant to spiritual aspect. Regardless of nationality or gender, nurses must be knowledgeable regarding the significance of adopting holistic care to improve the quality of their care to their patients.

This research delves into the practice of fasting in Buddhism, specifically focusing on Vihara Karuna Mukti in Bandung, Indonesia, and its implications for mental well-being. Fasting is a religious practice observed in various faiths, including Buddhism, and this study aims to explore its significance within this particular context. Using a descriptive qualitative research approach, the author investigates the practice of fasting in Buddhism, employing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that at Vihara Karuna Mukti, fasting is observed on specific dates according to the Buddhist calendar, including the 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd days of the lunar month, as well as by the monks who fast daily. Buddhists are permitted to consume food from morning until noon, approximately from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM, after which they abstain from eating until the following day. However, they are still allowed to drink water during the fasting period. Additionally, adherence to Atthasila, which encompasses eight virtues, is expected during fasting. The study concludes that the practice of fasting among Buddhists at Vihara Karuna Mukti holds implications for mental well-being when approached with sincerity. Fasting aids in cultivating self-control, promoting a sense of inner calmness, and nurturing virtues such as patience and honesty. It highlights the transformative potential of fasting as a means to enhance mental and spiritual aspects of life beyond religious boundaries. Overall, this research sheds light on the serenity of fasting in Buddhism and its positive impact on mental well-being, providing valuable insights into the interplay between religious practices and personal growth within the context of Vihara Karuna Mukti.

Along with scientific development and technological growth which have created a lot of convenience to mankind there have also raised a deep cynicism towards the religious and spiritual aspects of life. Value crisis of humanity marked by the crisis of spirituality increased. Many societies are facing deep crisis. This condition makes the world vulnerable to violence and conflicts. Therefore, modern world society has been challenged to to be more attentive than before to deal with religious and spiritual values. This paper asserts that religion continues to be an important since it combines both personal and public character. Social problems faced by the modern world society such as cultural diversity, environmental preservation, economic equity, and conflict resolution are theologically reflected within the teaching of Islam. Sufism as a form of Islamic spiritualities offers some applicable answers for this phenomenon. In addition, characteristic of Sufism (mysticism) is commonly well known in almost all religions. Sufism cherishes from the private sphere into a popular Islamic culture. This research would like to see how the phenomenon of spiritual movement in the dimension of Sufism has a real powerful to improve social problem of the modern world.

BackgroundThere is a lack of valid instruments for assessing spiritual resources and distress in the context of psychiatry and psychotherapy. To fill this gap, the newly developed Spiritual Distress and Resources Questionnaire (SDRQ) was studied in patients with affective disorders. The purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the SDRQ.MethodsThe SDRQ was administered to 177 patients with affective disorders. Measurement properties including reliability, structural validity and construct validity were analysed. In addition, a sub-sample of 41 participants completed the SDRQ a second time to assess test-retest reliability.ResultsExploratory factor analysis confirmed that the 22 items of the SDRQ could be grouped into four subscales: spiritual distress, spiritual coping, immanence and transcendence. The spiritual distress, transcendence, immanence and spiritual coping subscales showed high internal consistency as indicated by Cronbach’s alpha coefficients (0.83–0.88). The construct validity of the SDRQ was supported by meaningful and significant correlations with established measures in the field. In particular, higher levels of spiritual distress were strongly associated with higher scores on the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale.ConclusionThe results of this study suggest that the SDRQ is a reliable, valid and user-friendly screening tool for assessing spiritual distress, spiritual resources and spiritual coping in patients with affective disorders. The use of the SDRQ may be useful to adequately address and integrate spiritual aspects in a multimodal care approach.

Background: Spiritual competence in nursing is essential in providing holistic health services. Nurses are not only responsible for the physical aspects of patients but also psychological, social, and spiritual aspects. Spiritual care is an effort made to meet the spiritual needs of the patient, which includes the moral, emotional, and religious values or beliefs that the patient has. This study aims to systematically review the literature examining the relationship between nurses' spiritual competence, the delivery of spiritual care, and its impact on patient satisfaction levels. Methods: This research method This article employs a systematic review methodology. The literature search was conducted between September and October 2024 using journal databases such as ScienceDirect, PubMed, ClinicalKey, and Google Scholar. Results: A nurse's spiritual competence significantly influences the quality of spiritual care provided to patients. Further research is essential to explore the various dimensions of spirituality in nursing and its impact on patient outcomes. Conclusion: The study highlights the critical role of spiritual competence in delivering effective spiritual care and improving patient satisfaction. Future research should explore the multidimensional aspects of spirituality in nursing and their broader implications for patient outcomes and holistic healthcare practices.

This work synthesizes the authors' views on the damages to the development of human capital in health services, which are caused by the disregard to the human spiritual dimension. New administration paradigms related to the development of spirituality are pointed out. Considering that the spiritual dimension has a systemic nature and that, by means of ethics and esthetics, it harmonizes all of man's dimensions in his relationships with others, the authors aim at approaching the spiritual value as fundamental for the re-humanization of the managing nurse's job. They recommend the integration of the spiritual dimension to the daily work of such professional as a determinant factor for a new performance as well as an inductor for nurses' better personal and professional life quality.

The aging process, characterized by a decline in physical, psychological, and social abilities, makes the elderly a vulnerable group to various life problems. This study examines the quality of life of the elderly at the Rumah Bahagia Bintan Nursing Home based on physical, psychological, social, and environmental aspects. This study aims to analyze the quality of health and life of the elderly at the Rumah Bahagia Bintan Nursing Home through physical, psychological, social, and environmental aspects using the WHOQOL-BREF instrument to provide an in-depth overview of the quality of life of the elderly. This research method is descriptive qualitative, to collect data, observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation are used. Research information comes from the elderly who live in the nursing home and the nursing home manager. This study was conducted at the Rumah Bahagia Bintan Nursing Home in Bintan Regency, Riau Islands Province, from July to August 2025. The study results indicate that the quality of life of the elderly at the Rumah Bahagia Bintan Nursing Home is in the moderate to good category. Physical aspects indicate a decline in body function due to the aging process, but are supported by adequate health services and the fulfillment of basic needs. Psychological, social, and environmental aspects indicate a relatively stable condition with social support, interaction between residents, and a safe and comfortable home environment. The role of the Nursing Home is very important in supporting the well-being of the elderly, although improvements in services, particularly in psychological support and family involvement, still need to be optimized.

One example of a novel with the theme of feminism is "Lebih Senyap Dari Bisikan (More Silent Than a Whisper)" by Andina Dwifatma. This study examines how the concept of motherhood and Amara's image as a mother are depicted from the physical, psychological, and social aspects in the novel "Lebih Senyap Dari Bisikan" by Andina Dwifatma. There are 9 research data in the form of quotations which include 26 sentences consisting of 8 sentences describing the concept of "motherhood", and 18 sentences describing the image of Amara's character as a mother from physical, psychological, and social aspects. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative accompanied by the analysis of Culler's feminist literary criticism, namely "Reading as a Woman". The results showed that many sentences depicted the concept of motherhood and that the main female character, Amara, was imaged more in the psychological and social aspects during childcare than during her pregnancy, and experienced more problems related to psychological and social relationships with people around her. In addition, Amara is also portrayed as a mother in the physical aspect but with low intensity in caring for the child she gave birth to.

Personal perception of chronic illness

The purpose of this study was to assess the types of social support used by Chamorro (indigenous) breast cancer survivors on Guam. We assessed social support use among 25 self-reported Chamorro women with a diagnosis of breast cancer through interviews and construction of genograms and ecomaps -pictorial displays of the women's family relationships, medical history, and their social networks. The mean age of the participants was 54.5 years. The average number of years since the diagnosis of breast cancer was 7.8 years. Respondents indicated that the nuclear family was the most important form of social support (34.2%). Indeed, nuclear family and other types of informal systems were the most common type of social support used by the women (60.2%). Formal support services, clubs, and organizations were reported by 17.9% of participants while spiritual and/or religious resources were reported by 21.9% of them. These Chamorro breast cancer survivors depended largely on family for social support. Support from family, although informal, should be recognized as a pivotal factor in recovery and survivorship. Future directions could incorporate formal and informal mechanisms to utilize this natural support resource.

When researching the responses of 60 Catholic school leaders to their demanding work in English inner-city secondary schools, I encountered evidence of a deep vocational commitment. These headteachers were clearly drawing upon a spiritual and religious resource that empowered them and which gave them a sustained sense of mission, purpose and hope in their educational work. In the research report which followed, I referred to this sustaining and inspirational factor as ‘spiritual capital’. What I did not do, as some critics have pointed out, was to provide an adequate historical and theoretical elaboration to this concept that might be used in future research and academic writing. This is an attempt to remedy that omission and to provide a more detailed understanding of what spiritual capital is, and of its crucial relevance for the future effectiveness and integrity of the Catholic education mission worldwide.
