Agent-Module Approach to the Design and Implementation of Software Systems Based on Simulation Modeling

Welcome to the DATE 08 Conference Proceedings. DATE combines the world's favourite electronic systems design conference and Europe's leading international exhibition for electronic design, automation and test, from system level hardware and software implementation right down to integrated circuit design. The DATE 08 event features a technical program with 77 sessions covering the latest developments in system design and embedded software, IC design/test methodologies and EDA tools, together with an exhibition with the leading EDA, silicon and IP providers showing their new products and services. Challenges that you all face or soon will face in your daily practice are the increasing design complexity of highly integrated systems, the introduction of reconfigurability and embedded software, and the control of power and variability in nanometer IC designs. All these issues will be addressed in this year's DATE event. For the 11th successive year DATE has prepared an exciting technical programme, with the help of the more than 400 members of the Technical Programme Committee, who dedicated their time to thoroughly review the 839 submissions in 37 topics, ranging from system level down to circuit design and covering all the most relevant application domains. The submissions are organised in 4 major areas: D --- Design Methods, Tools, Algorithms and Languages A --- Application Design T --- Test Methods, Tools and Innovative Experiences E --- Embedded Software After a thorough review and selection process (with an average of 5 reviews per paper), finally 198 regular papers were selected for presentation at the conference. Additionally, there are 46 Interactive Presentations that are organised in 5 IP sessions. Together with the invited special sessions (panels, embedded tutorials and hot topic sessions), this has resulted in a high-quality technical program. The technical program provides a wide but high-quality coverage of design, design automation and test topics, from the system level to the integrated circuit level. Compared with previous years, submissions in the Embedded Software track has increased by 50%, showing a clear trend towards a comprehensive system design focus with integrated hardware and software solutions. DATE has established itself firmly as a true Electronic System Design Conference. This year the conference is held in Germany, at the ICM in Munich and spans an entire working week from Monday March 10 to Friday March 14. On Monday, eleven pre-conference tutorials will be given. The three-full day tutorials cover topics of great interest for system design. The first tutorial deals with techniques to automatically realising embedded system from high-level functional models. The second tutorial addresses the different issues related to communication based design and architectures in automotive electronic systems. The third tutorial discusses several key concepts on system-level design and application mapping for wireless and multimedia MPSoC architectures. Furthermore, eight half-day tutorials are also given, which cover a wide spectrum of topics on specification, modelling, design and test. The main conference opens on Tuesday March 11, with two very interesting and complementary keynote speeches. Dominique Vernay, Chief Technical Officer for Thales, will talk about the challenges of embedded systems design, and Giovanni de Micheli, Professor at EPFL, will present his views on designing micro/nano systems for a safer and healthier tomorrow. On the same day, the Executive Track offers a series of business panels with executives discussing hot topics in design: the perils of 45 nanometers, the changes in EDA strategies from IDM, to fablite to fabless, and embedded systems level design strategies. DATE 08 will again offer two specific days related to special themes. On Wednesday March 12, a special full-day track is devoted to Automotive Electronics---Software and Architecture. This special-day track will focus on the challenges faced by the automotive supply chain with particular attention to system and software architecture design. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the evolution of automotive architectures, including ECUs, sensors and communication standards and discusses how new methods, tools and standards for interoperability and component-based design can deal with the increasing complexity of software systems and their need for reliability and guaranteed timely behaviour. In addition, it addresses to what degree existing standards, including AUTOSAR and FLEXRAY and model-based development, can support the development of safety and time-critical software. On Thursday March 13, a second special full-day track focuses on Dependable Embedded Systems. This track will address both conceptual and applied issues for design, analysis and validation of dependable embedded systems. The utility of embedded systems and services is based, in large part, on our depending on their sustained functionality in spite of the encountered operational or malicious disruptions. As the number of transient and also permanent disruptions (given the decreasing device geometries, higher device density, lower voltage latching, faster clocks etc) is expected to increase substantially, this will not only be a key issue for the hardware community but also the systems community in general. Solutions using a combination of hardware and software might be more effective than hardware-only or software-only solutions. This track focuses on both conceptual and applied issues for design, analysis and validation of dependable embedded systems. Besides these special tracks, the main conference is organized in six parallel tracks of sessions, three devoted to design methods, tools, algorithms and languages, one to application design, one to test methods, tools and innovative experiences, and finally one to embedded software. The presentations of the selected regular papers in these parallel tracks are complemented by nine Special Sessions and two Invited Industrial Sessions. The special sessions are organized in the form of panels, hot topics, and embedded tutorials. The topics to be covered include quantitative evaluation for embedded systems design, design and manufacturing at 32 and 22nm, software for wireless networked embedded systems, test challenges for low power devices, quantitative productivity measurement in IC design, and 3D Integration. The two invited industrial sessions deal with industrial system designs in transportation and information technologies. To emphasise that DATE is the major event for the designers, DATE 08 features also invited sessions where Europe's famous consumer industry presents their best designs and design practices. Friday March 14 is the day for the DATE workshops. DATE 08 offers workshops on current and emerging important issues in design, test, EDA and software to complement the regular conference. They provide a unique opportunity for the various research and design communities to spend a day discussing the latest and the best, sharing their experiences and visions. This year's workshop program includes eight workshop themes. Four workshops are related to software engineering, ranging from dependable software to modelling, analysis and development tools. Four other workshop themes cover a variety of topics such as the impact of process variations on design and test, the merging world of Nano-Electro-Mechanical Systems, new directions in high level synthesis, and heterogeneous reconfigurable hardware. Each workshop features presentations, invited or submitted, from highly distinguished academic and industrial researchers. Finally, throughout the conference days, DATE offers a comprehensive overview of commercial design and verification tools in its large exhibition hall. Exhibitors include EDA vendors, silicon, FPGA and IP providers showing their new products and services. In addition, there is an Exhibition Theatre featuring talks from engineering managers of the leading electronic manufacturers on first-hand design experiences of commercial EDA tools. New this year is the European projects village where different European and large government funded projects will be able to show their ongoing research and results to the design community and have the opportunity for internal meetings and discussions. The DATE week will be also an opportunity for students and universities to show their research work, through the PhD Forum on Monday evening and the University Booth where hardware and software demonstrations will be shown by different universities on a rotation schedule. The DATE 08 event's program will be particularly attractive to industrial designers, at analog, IC, FPGA and embedded system level, as well as software designers, to researchers and academics as well as to design managers, and an increasing attendance is expected. We therefore invite you to take full advantage of the many opportunities offered to you by DATE 08, to extend your knowledge and/or business in electronic system's design and to exploit the abundant networking possibilities offered to socialise with colleagues, including fringe meetings and a memorable social party with bands and dancing. Nowadays due to the technology development and use of digital computers in various systems, need for development of high performance and robust software is attracting great attentions. Because of increasing complexity in algorithms and implementation hardware for embedded systems, proper simulation tools are required. In sophisticated systems design, hardware in the loop (HIL) simulation is known as a prominent simulation tool before realistic tests of the system and a step after software simulation. Simultaneously it can be used for verification and validation of automation and control software. HIL has had an historical background in aerospace industries. Recently, this tool has spread in different steps of system life cycle such as design, development, implementation and test of various applications including automobile industry, shipbuilding, power lines, robotic systems and etc. Utilizing a suitable hardware in the loop laboratory, in system design stages is a practical way to increase the system reliability and efficiency as well as value of product. Also, by proper investigation in this modelling and simulation method, many errors can be avoided in design procedure of software and hardware as well as their interconnections. In this study, structure and components of an hardware in the loop laboratory for different systems are explored, also it is tried to more evaluate the applications of HIL simulations in dynamics and control engineering. At last, general structure of an hardware in the loop lab for diverse industries is proposed and discussed.

Software Engineering: A Methodical Approach (Second Edition) provides a comprehensive, but concise introduction to software engineering. The primary objective is to help students gain a solid grasp of the activities in the software development life cycle to be confident about taking on new software engineering projects.

We present techniques for design and implementation of software systems with AI and concurrent S.E. techniques. The stages of conceptualization, design and implementation are defined by Al methods. Software systems are proposed to be designed through knowledge acquisition, specification, and multiagent implementations. Multi-agent implementations are proposed to facilitate a fault tolerant software design methodology, applying our recent research that has lead to fault tolerant AI systems. A particular approach to and an AI formulation of designing fault free and fault tolerant software is presented, which is based on the agent models of computation. Design with objects and a novel multi-kernel approach is presented. A system is defined by many communicating pairs of kernels, each defining a part of the system, as specified by object level knowledge acquisition. ICAS-PAT: A software for design, analysis and validation of PAT systems

: This document highlights and addresses architecture level software development issues facing researchers and practitioners in the field of Computer Vision. A new framework, or architectural style, called SAI, is introduced. It provides a formalism for the design, implementation and analysis of software systems that perform distributed parallel processing of generic data streams. Architectural patterns are illustrated with a number of demonstration projects ranging from single stream automatic real-time video processing to fully integrated distributed interactive systems mixing live video, graphics and sound. SAI is supported by an open source architectural middleware called MFSM.

Whether the developed software system completed all functions in the software design specification and consistent with the design algorithm is an important work in software testing. Analysis of the source code artificial and verify whether the software system is to meet the requirements of the design specification is laborious job. Testers need to have rich experience in programming and strong ability of algorithm analysis. This paper proposes a method to verify consistency of software implementation and design based on function call path. The method can be summarized as analyze the calling relationship of functions from design specifications and source code, extraction function calling path, generation function cluster model. In documents aspect, the function calling relationship can be got by manual analysis of the design specification, then the designed function cluster model can be generated automatically. We can get function calling relationship, function features by static analysis of source code and the specific implementations of function with those features. Finally, compare the two function cluster model to verify that the consistency of software implementation and design. The experimental results showed that this method can obtain the system function structure and algorithm features accurately, make effective judgment of the consistency of the design specification and the software implementation, provides a new way to verify the consistency of software implementation and design.

Architecture conformance checking is an important technique to verify whether a software system's implementation adheres to predefined architectural rules. The adherence to architectural rules is crucial, since architectural rules are intended to ensure that fundamental properties are correctly implemented in the source code. A lot of tools have been proposed and developed for automatic conformance checking. They are also successfully applied in industry. However, those tools mainly focus on the validation of static dependencies between modules or on ensuring the adherence to the layered architecture. In this poster, we present an industrial case study which discovers architectural rules from three industrial projects. This study shows that software architects also define other types of architectural rules that are not yet covered by state-of-the-art conformance checking tools. The architectural rules found in the projects are categorized into architectural rule categories. We use four representative tools as examples and show that the tools are able to formalize only a specific extent of the discovered rules. The results of the study motivate for improving existing tools and to collect further examples of architectural rules that can potentially be reused in projects with similar characteristics.

Security has been always treated as an add-on feature in the software development lifecycle, and addressed by security professionals using firewalls, proxies, intrusion prevention systems, antivirus and platform security. Software is at the root of all common computer security problems, and hence hackers don't create security holes, but rather exploit them. Security holes in software applications are the result of bad design and implementation of software systems and applications. To address this problem, several initiatives for integrating security in the software development lifecycle have been proposed, along with tools to support a security-centric software development lifecycle. This paper introduces a framework for evaluating security static analysis tools such as source code analyzers, and offers evaluation of non-commercial static analysis tools such as Yasca, CAT.NET, and FindBugs. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of such tools, common software weaknesses are defined based on CWE/SANS Top 25, OWASP Top Ten and NIST source code weaknesses. The evaluation methodology is based on the NIST Software Assurance Metrics And Tool Evaluation (SAMATE). Results show that security static analysis tools are, to some extent, effective in detecting security holes in source code; source code analyzers are able to detect more weaknesses than bytecode and binary code scanners; and while tools can assist the development team in security code review activities, they are not enough to uncover all common weaknesses in software. The new test cases developed for this research have been contributed to the NIST Software Assurance Reference Dataset (samate.nist.gov/SARD).

Increasingly software can be considered to be critical, due to the business or other functionality which it supports. Upgrades or changes to such software are expensive and risky, primarily because the software has not been designed and built for ease of change. Expertise, tools and methodologies which support the design and implementation of software systems that evolve without risk (of failure or loss of quality) are essential. We address a research agenda for building software in computer-based systems that (a) is highly reliable and (b) retains this reliability as it evolves, either over time or at run-time and illustrate this with a complex example from the domain of space exploration.

Option management is among the most important and interesting problems in computational finance where modern techniques can be used to improve the design and implementation of software systems and supporting tools. The purpose of option valuation is to compute the value of a financial instrument, the option, which is governed by economic laws and is a function of a number of financial variables. The option valuation problem has many similarities to classical problems in physics and applied mathematics such as boundary value problems, free boundary problems, and optimal stopping problems. Knowhow from these areas has been proven useful in the mathematical treatment of options. The treatment of options in a mathematical framework facilitates their classification and provides the basis for an object-oriented abstraction. The object-orientation of the option valuation problem is used in FINANZIA, a library for option valuation, hedging, and implied parameter calculation. Introducing object-oriented techniques in the design and implementation of option management software helps in mastering the complexity and dynamic nature of the application domain, as well as in meeting the strict requirements for software maintainability, robustness, and performance.

In today’s organizations, a vast amount of existing software systems is insecure, which results in compromised valuable assets and has negative consequences on the organizations. Throughout the years, many attempts have been made to build secure software systems, but the solutions proposed were limited to a few add-on fixes made after implementation and installation of the system.The contribution of the research in this thesis is a software security engineering methodology, called Controlled Security Engineering Process, which provides support to developers when developing more secure software systems by integrating software lifecycle and security lifecycle, and enhancing the control in the engineering process. The proposed methodology implements security in every phase of general software system engineering, i.e., requirement, design, implementation, and testing, as well as operation and maintenance to certify that software systems are built with security in mind.The Controlled Security Engineering Process methodology addresses security problems in the development lifecycle. Construction of a secure software system involves specific steps and activities, which include security requirements specifications of system behavior, secure software design, an analysis of the design, implementation, with secure coding and integration, and operating and maintenance procedures.The methodology incorporates software security patterns and control of the engineering process. The software security patterns can be used as security controls and information sources to demonstrate how a specific security task should be performed or a specific security problem solved. Many patterns can be implemented in an automated way, which can facilitate the work of software engineers.The control of the engineering process provides visibility over the development process. The control assures that authorised developers access legitimate and necessary information and projects’ documents by using authentication, and authorization.To support implementation of automated patterns and provide control over the engineering process, a design of a multi-agent system is provided. The multi-agent system supports implementation of patterns and extracting security information, and provides traceability in the engineering process. The security information is requirements, threats and security mechanisms that are provided by matching project documents, and traceability is achieved by monitoring and logging services.The Controlled Security Engineering Process methodology has been evaluated through interviews with developers, security professionals, and decision makers in different types of organizations but also through a case study which was carried out in an organization.

This paper outlines perspectives on the teaching and learning of software systems development in large groups based on the designed, final year, software systems analysis (SSA) and software systems design (SSD) subjects within the undergraduate Software Engineering Program at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Topics described by this paper include shared experiences in implementing these subjects over the last two years and discusses their successes, as well as common problems both experienced and anticipated. While the SSA and SSD subjects are practice based, its content is the synthesis of all subjects taught in the Software Engineering Program and practiced in industrial internships. The object of these two subjects is to bridge the gap between the students' individualistic, often unplanned, unbudgeted and uncoordinated efforts, that dominate the traditional approach to teaching and learning software subjects; and the demands of planned, process driven, well coordinated and budgeted - modern, large team based development of complex software systems, demanded by industry. The subjects are evolutionary in nature, but the most critical aspect and challenge is to maintain a careful balance of academic and pedagogical interests with ever changing industry demands and practices.

Aiming at the convergence between Earth observation (EO) Big Data and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), this paper consists of two parts. In the previous Part 1, existing EO optical sensory image-derived Level 2/Analysis Ready Data (ARD) products and processes are critically compared, to overcome their lack of harmonization/ standardization/ interoperability and suitability in a new notion of Space Economy 4.0. In the present Part 2, original contributions comprise, at the Marr five levels of system understanding: (1) an innovative, but realistic EO optical sensory image-derived semantics-enriched ARD co-product pair requirements specification. First, in the pursuit of third-level semantic/ontological interoperability, a novel ARD symbolic (categorical and semantic) co-product, known as Scene Classification Map (SCM), adopts an augmented Cloud versus Not-Cloud taxonomy, whose Not-Cloud class legend complies with the standard fully-nested Land Cover Classification System’s Dichotomous Phase taxonomy proposed by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. Second, a novel ARD subsymbolic numerical co-product, specifically, a panchromatic or multi-spectral EO image whose dimensionless digital numbers are radiometrically calibrated into a physical unit of radiometric measure, ranging from top-of-atmosphere reflectance to surface reflectance and surface albedo values, in a five-stage radiometric correction sequence. (2) An original ARD process requirements specification. (3) An innovative ARD processing system design (architecture), where stepwise SCM generation and stepwise SCM-conditional EO optical image radiometric correction are alternated in sequence. (4) An original modular hierarchical hybrid (combined deductive and inductive) computer vision subsystem design, provided with feedback loops, where software solutions at the Marr two shallowest levels of system understanding, specifically, algorithm and implementation, are selected from the scientific literature, to benefit from their technology readiness level as proof of feasibility, required in addition to proven suitability. To be implemented in operational mode at the space segment and/or midstream segment by both public and private EO big data providers, the proposed EO optical sensory image-derived semantics-enriched ARD product-pair and process reference standard is highlighted as linchpin for success of a new notion of Space Economy 4.0.

Has done research for the analysis and design of software evaluation clinical practice assessment (PKL / PKN) WEB based on the Diploma Program Radiodiagnostic and Radiotherapy Techniques Semarang. Needs analysis has been conducted for designing software evaluation clinical practice assessment (PKL / PKN) Web-based programming using PHP and MySQL. Analyses were performed with several stages of system analysis, analysis of the weaknesses of the old system based PIECES, a new system needs analysis, feasibility analysis and design of software systems sistem.Desain done with methods for object-oriented programming (Object Oriented Programming) created using the Unified Modeling Language (UML) that is using the use case, the database and interface design. With the analysis and design of the software, will be developed (development) and monitoring and evaluation in the next stage of research.
