Introduction: The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into higher education is swiftly revolutionizing pedagogical methodologies, in conjunction with learning processes and research paradigms. The interdisciplinary potential of AI within academic settings was examined in this study, employing a case study conducted at the University of Tirana. Through the utilization of bibliometric analysis and survey-based research, this study comprehensively investigates the swiftly emerging trends in AI applications, students' significant familiarity with AI technologies, as well as the substantial challenges impeding broader adoption. The bibliometric analysis highlights significant exponential growth in AI research, particularly within pivotal domains such as finance and accounting, thereby emphasizing the swiftly increasing relevance of blockchain and automation. The survey indicates a robust enthusiasm among students for AI in educational settings. More than 90 percent of students actively incorporate AI tools in their project work. Nonetheless, resource limitations and ethical considerations, including privacy, data security, and algorithmic bias, pose considerable challenges to the widespread adoption of AI, despite the prevailing enthusiasm. Objective: The aim of this research is to examine the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the realm of higher education. This analysis concentrates on the applications, advantages, and challenges associated with AI, with the intent of advancing interdisciplinary research and educational methodologies at the University of Tirana. Theoretical Framework: This research expands upon the principles of AI adoption within the educational sector, alongside an examination of ethical considerations and multidisciplinary collaboration. Theories pertaining to technological integration and adaptive learning systems serve as the foundational framework for comprehending the implications of AI in the realm of education. Method: The methodology employs bibliometric analysis to examine AI-related research trends utilizing data from SCOPUS and conducts a survey to assess students' familiarity with and perceptions of AI. Data collection was facilitated through bibliometric instruments and an online survey incorporating Likert-scale and open-ended questions. Results and Discussion: The results underscore an increased focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain within scholarly research, wherein students exhibit considerable engagement and interest in AI applications. Nevertheless, limitations in resources and ethical issues, including privacy and bias, persist as primary challenges. The discourse underscores the imperative for investment in infrastructure and the incorporation of ethical education. Research Implications: This research highlights the imperative for higher education institutions to integrate artificial intelligence tools, cultivate adaptive curricula, and address ethical considerations in order to adequately prepare students for a future shaped by AI. The implications of these findings also pertain to educational policy and the formulation of interdisciplinary research strategies. Originality/Value: The study contributes by delivering a comprehensive bibliometric analysis and gives insights into student engagement with artificial intelligence. Its significance resides in presenting actionable recommendations to enhance the integration of artificial intelligence in higher education.

Algorithmic bias, lack of transparency, and limitations in accountability pose significant ethical dilemmas, potentially affecting fairness and student autonomy. Privacy concerns emerge from large-scale collection, storage, and analysis of sensitive student data, necessitating robust data protection measures, including anonymization and differential privacy. Security vulnerabilities, encompassing cyberattacks, model manipulation, and insider threats, further amplify the risks associated with AI deployment. This chapter examines these multidimensional challenges, highlighting the importance of ethical AI design, privacy-preserving techniques, and comprehensive risk management strategies. Integration of governance frameworks throughout the AI lifecycle ensures responsible, secure, and equitable adoption across diverse educational contexts. Cross-cultural and global perspectives are explored to address variations in regulatory standards, cultural expectations, and institutional capacities, emphasizing the need for adaptable and inclusive AI governance. The chapter concludes by identifying future research directions that advance trustworthy AI adoption in higher education, fostering transparency, accountability, and resilience while safeguarding student rights.

This systematic literature review examines the ethical frameworks surrounding the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the professional practices of higher education lecturers. As AI becomes increasingly prevalent in academia, it presents ethical challenges, including concerns about academic integrity, data privacy, algorithmic fairness, and its responsible implementation in teaching and research. These issues underscore the need for robust ethical guidelines to support educators in navigating the complexities of AI integration. The study aims to analyze existing ethical frameworks for AI adoption in higher education, identify key challenges and opportunities in AI integration, and develop comprehensive guidelines for responsible AI implementation. The methodology followed the PRISMA guidelines, employing qualitative systematic review through content analysis and thematic synthesis. Advanced searches in Scopus and Web of Science databases identified 34 primary studies that met the inclusion criteria, focusing on peer-reviewed articles published in 2024 about AI ethics in higher education. The findings were divided into three themes: (1) Ethical Concerns and Academic Integrity, (2) Pedagogical Strategies and Educational Impact and (3) Policies and Frameworks for AI Integration. Results indicate a growing need for standardized ethical frameworks, with 85% of studies emphasizing the importance of balancing innovation with ethical considerations. Conclusions highlight the necessity for adaptable and inclusive frameworks that prioritize accountability, transparency, and equity in AI use within higher education.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education has the potential to revolutionize teaching and learning, particularly in the development of students’ critical thinking skills. This study explores science instructors' familiarity, perceptions, and experiences with using AI to enhance students' critical thinking skills, as well as the level of institutional support for AI integration in teaching. A quantitative survey was conducted among 20 science instructors from higher education institutions in Isabela, Philippines. The findings reveal that while instructors acknowledge AI's potential to improve educational outcomes, there is a significant gap in formal AI training and literacy among educators. Positive correlations were found between AI literacy, AI integration, and critical thinking development, suggesting that as AI literacy increases, AI integration and enhancement of critical thinking skills also increase. Regression analysis identified AI integration as a significant predictor of critical thinking development. Challenges remain in the effective implementation of AI, including concerns about overreliance on AI-generated responses and the need for clear assessment guidelines. Interestingly, years of teaching experience did not significantly influence participants’ AI literacy, perceptions, or integration. This study highlights the importance of developing comprehensive AI literacy programs for educators and integrating AI into curriculum structures to balance AI-enhanced learning with human-centered pedagogy. These findings emphasize the need for thoughtful implementation and ongoing research to effectively leverage AI in promoting critical thinking skills in science education.

Artificial intelligence (AI) integration into education presents challenging ethical and practical issues as well as transforming possibilities for individualized learning, operational efficiency, and improved outcomes. This report investigates trust, transparency, algorithmic bias, and responsibility in AI-driven educational systems from the points of view of three hundred teachers, educators, and researchers around India. The results highlight a notable knowledge gap: Just 28.33% of respondents are highly familiar with artificial intelligence in education, while 32.67% are completely unfamiliar. Though 35% of respondents are unsure about data privacy policies, 41.67% of respondents believe AI can greatly improve educational outcomes, so they are cautiously optimistic. Only 27.67% of respondents said they were completely aware of how artificial intelligence systems use data. Thus, algorithmic bias became a major issue for 34% of respondents, along with general calls for transparency. The results highlight the need for human supervision since 35.67% of respondents support artificial intelligence use just under such circumstances. This paper comes to the conclusion that tackling these issues calls for strong ethical rules, professional growth to raise AI literacy, and inclusive models for transparency and responsibility. These steps are essential to guarantee fairness and confidence in AI integration, so opening the path for responsible application in learning environments.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in addressing global sustainability challenges, offering innovative solutions for energy optimization, environmental conservation, waste management, and smart urban development. This systematic review critically examines the role of AI in advancing sustainability initiatives by synthesizing peer-reviewed literature published between 2015 and 2024. The study explores how AI-driven technologies, including machine learning, deep learning, and big data analytics, contribute to improving energy efficiency, optimizing resource utilization, and enhancing decision-making processes in sustainability efforts. Key applications include AI-powered smart grids, predictive analytics for climate change mitigation, intelligent waste management systems, and real-time environmental monitoring. Despite its vast potential, the integration of AI into sustainability efforts presents significant challenges. Ethical concerns such as algorithmic bias, lack of transparency in decision-making, and data privacy issues remain critical obstacles. Additionally, high implementation costs, limited interdisciplinary collaboration, and the need for robust policy frameworks hinder the large-scale adoption of AI-driven sustainability solutions. This review underscores the importance of addressing these challenges through inclusive governance, interdisciplinary partnerships, and ethical AI development. Future research should focus on refining AI algorithms for higher accuracy, improving global data-sharing mechanisms, and developing cost-effective AI solutions that are accessible to developing regions. By leveraging AI responsibly and equitably, policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders can drive meaningful progress toward achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fostering a resilient, sustainable future for both present and future generations. This research aims to critically examine the ethical integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education through the perspective of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah, emphasizing the alignment between technological innovation and Islamic moral principles. The methods used are a systematic literature review and thematic content analysis against peer-reviewed publications for the period 2015–2025, which discuss the application of AI in primary, secondary, and higher education. The study identified dominant ethical issues, such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, accountability, human agency, and moral development, which were then mapped to Islamic ethical goals, including ʿadl (justice), amānah (belief), karāmah al-insān (human dignity), and ḥifẓ al-ʿaql (protection of reason). The results of the analysis show that the adoption of AI in education often emphasizes efficiency, personalization, and predictive analytics, but has the potential to reduce learners' autonomy and ethical reasoning. The mapping of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah shows a strong normative conformity, so that Islamic principles can be a moral foundation as well as a practical guide for AI governance. The research contribution is theoretical by bridging the literature on AI ethics and Islamic educational philosophy, as well as practical by offering an integrative framework for AI policymakers, educators, and developers. The integration of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah in AI governance ensures justice, trust, inclusivity, and the development of the whole human being (insān kāmil).

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies into educational environments—particularly through Adaptive Learning Systems (ALS)—has fundamentally transformed the delivery of instruction and personalized learning. These intelligent systems leverage machine learning algorithms to continuously analyze learner data and adapt content, pacing, and pedagogical strategies to individual student needs, leading to enhanced engagement and improved learning outcomes. However, this rapid digital evolution has surfaced critical concerns about the opacity, fairness, and accountability of AI-driven decisions. Often referred to as “black-box” systems, many AI models offer little to no insight into how they arrive at recommendations or interventions, thereby posing challenges related to transparency, interpretability, trust, and ethical governance. This paper argues that to responsibly integrate AI in education, especially in contexts where student data and futures are at stake, it is essential to move beyond system performance and embrace Explainable AI (XAI)—a design philosophy and technical paradigm focused on making AI decision-making understandable to humans. We propose a student-centric framework for XAI in ALS, which places learners and educators at the center of AI design and deployment processes. The framework is informed by interdisciplinary literature and practical case studies in educational technology and AI ethics. It emphasizes three foundational pillars: (1) Human-centered design, which ensures that AI interfaces and feedback mechanisms are accessible and usable by students and educators alike; (2) Stakeholder collaboration, which fosters ongoing dialogue between developers, teachers, learners, ethicists, and policymakers; and (3) Ethical integration, which embeds principles such as fairness, inclusivity, data privacy, and algorithmic accountability into the development lifecycle of adaptive learning tools. The framework also outlines actionable strategies to ensure that explanations provided by AI systems are contextually meaningful, developmentally appropriate, and pedagogically aligned. It considers the differentiated cognitive needs of various learner groups and promotes educational transparency as a right, not a privilege. Ultimately, this student-centric XAI framework aims to cultivate trustworthy, ethical, and pedagogically sound AI systems that not only support learning but also uphold the rights, agency, and dignity of learners in the digital age. By advocating for transparency and ethical accountability, this work contributes to the growing body of research on responsible AI in education and offers practical guidance for institutions aiming to deploy adaptive technologies in equitable and explainable ways.

The integration of Artificial intelligence (AI) in biotechnology presents significant ethical challenges that must be addressed to ensure responsible innovations. Key concerns include data privacy and security, as AI systems often handle sensitive genetic and health information, necessitating robust regulations to protect individuals’ rights and maintain public trust. Algorithmic bias poses another critical issue; AI can reflect existing biases in training data, leading to inequitable healthcare outcomes. Transparency in AI decision-making is essential, as “black box” models hinder trust, especially in drug discovery and genetics. Ethical implications of genetic manipulation require careful scrutiny to define the limits of human intervention. Additionally, societal impacts must be considered to ensure equitable distribution of AI benefits, preventing the exacerbation of disparities. Engaging diverse stakeholders, including ethicists and policymakers, is vital in aligning these technologies with societal values. Ultimately, prioritizing ethics will allow us to harness AI and biotechnology’s potential while safeguarding human rights and promoting equity.

The acceptance of, perceived advantages to, and skepticism toward the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in undergraduate education is investigated in this paper. In this study, a total of 675 students from six Romanian universities answered a self-administered online questionnaire evaluating three main aspects: AI acceptance, AI benefits, and AI skepticism. While AI skepticism has a modest but substantial negative influence (β = −0.113, p = 0.001), results show that AI benefits favorably predict AI acceptance (β = 0.541, p = 0.001). Whereas AI skepticism negatively correlates with AI acceptance (r = −0.124, p = 0.001), correlational analysis reveals a high positive association between AI acceptance and AI benefits (r = 0.544, p = 0.001). Despite concerns about its limitations, the regression model suggests that students’ willingness to embrace AI in education is mostly driven by its perceived advantages. This explains 30.8% of the variance in AI acceptance (R2 = 0.308, F(2, 641) = 142.909, p < 0.001). These results highlight the importance of techniques that improve perceived benefits while addressing uncertainty since they offer insightful analysis of student attitudes regarding artificial intelligence integration in higher education. By guiding policy decisions and educational activities meant to maximize AI-driven learning environments, this study adds to the current conversation on artificial intelligence adoption in education.

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into education offers transformative potential for personalized learning but raises critical ethical concerns regarding transparency, privacy, and bias. This study addresses the challenge of predicting and quantifying. The transparency score is a composite metric (scaled 0-100) that quantifies the degree to which AI-driven educational decisions are interpretable, explainable, and accountable to stakeholders, including students, educators, and administrators. It is computed based on factors such as algorithmic explainability, decision traceability, clarity of stakeholder communication, and compliance with ethical AI guidelines-a key factor for building stakeholder trust. We introduce EduTransNet, a novel deep neural network architecture designed to predict transparency scores based on student demographics, academic performance, and ethical perception features collected from 2,847 students across three Pakistani universities. EduTransNet incorporates fairness-aware mechanisms, including demographic parity constraints and interpretability layers, to ensure ethical predictions. Comparative evaluation against Support Vector Regression, Linear Regression, and Random Forest Regression demonstrates EduTransNet's superior performance (R² = 0.998, p < 0.001). These results indicate exceptional predictive accuracy, with the R-squared value of 0.998 demonstrating that EduTransNet explains 99.8% of the variance in transparency scores-substantially outperforming traditional regression models. The MSE is approximately 6.2 points on a 100-point scale, which is considered excellent for educational outcome prediction tasks, where typical models achieve MSEs exceeding 100. The model not only predicts student outcomes more accurately but also integrates fairness mechanisms to mitigate bias and enhance transparency, offering valuable insights for educational stakeholders, policymakers, and AI developers to enhance accountability and guide ethical AI implementation in educational contexts. This research offers a practical framework for ethical AI governance in education, providing guidelines for educators, policymakers, and AI developers to ensure the responsible implementation of intelligent educational technologies.

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in non-formal, informal and formal education is an emerging area with great potential to transform the world. However, the capacity of educators, youth workers and teachers to capitalise on this potential remains limited due to a lack of well-defined frameworks for AI integration in practices. The scope of this study is to explore the needs, challenges, and perspectives of youth work professionals regarding AI integration.The research methodology employed mixt research methods. The literature review was followed by four semi-structured focus groups involving 72 youth workers and professionals with diverse backgrounds, nationalities and experience levels. A common guideline was used to ensure consistency, including facilitator instructions, discussion prompts, and reporting templates. The data collected during the focus groups were analysed using a Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS), ATLAS.ti software dedicated to qualitative research. The authors conducted qualitative analysis, through coding, identification of main categories, thematic map for visualization of results, and interpretation of findings to uncover patterns and deeper insights. The results revealed a generally positive attitude toward AI tools and an awareness of their potential benefits in youth work, particularly in content creation. However, participants reported significant challenges regarding the use of AI for administrative tasks efficiency, for personalised learning, ethical concerns, and difficulty in interpretation of data. Cross-country similarities emerged, suggesting a shared need for capacity building and continuous training, while differences highlighted the influence of national contexts and digital infrastructure.This study provides a foundational understanding of the competence needs of youth workers in relation to AI adoption. The findings are relevant for course designers wishing to offer targeted training for youth workers. Future research is also needed into policy-level support mechanisms that can enhance AI literacy and ethical integration across the sector.

The relentless integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into neurosurgery necessitates a meticulous exploration of the associated ethical concerns. This systematic review focuses on synthesizing empirical studies, reviews, and opinion pieces from the past decade, offering a nuanced understanding of the evolving intersection between AI and neurosurgical ethics. Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic review was conducted to identify studies addressing AI in neurosurgery, emphasizing ethical dimensions. The search strategy employed keywords related to AI, neurosurgery, and ethics. Inclusion criteria encompassed empirical studies, reviews, and ethical analyses published in the last decade, with English language restriction. Quality assessment using Joanna Briggs Institute tools ensured methodological rigor. Eight key studies were identified, each contributing unique insights to the ethical considerations associated with AI in neurosurgery. Findings highlighted limitations of AI technologies, challenges in data bias, transparency, and legal responsibilities. The studies emphasized the need for responsible AI systems, regulatory oversight, and transparent decision-making in neurosurgical practices. The synthesis of findings underscores the complexity of ethical considerations in the integration of AI in neurosurgery. Transparent and responsible AI use, regulatory oversight, and mitigation of biases emerged as recurring themes. The review calls for the establishment of comprehensive ethical guidelines to ensure safe and equitable AI integration into neurosurgical practices. Ongoing research, educational initiatives, and a culture of responsible innovation are crucial for navigating the evolving landscape of AI-driven advancements in neurosurgery.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data Analytics (BDA) are increasingly recognized as transformative forces that are reshaping industries, governance, and human society in profound ways. AI, with its foundations in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and predictive modelling, requires vast amounts of data to train algorithms and generate reliable insights. Complementing this, BDA provides the scale, diversity, and velocity of data processing required to uncover hidden patterns, correlations, and trends within complex datasets. Together, AI and BDA form a synergistic paradigm in which Big Data serves as the fuel and AI operates as the engine, driving intelligent, data-driven innovation across multiple domains. Globally, AI-BDA applications are enabling predictive diagnostics, telemedicine platforms, genomic-driven personalized treatments, and advanced medical imaging, thereby enhancing both the accessibility and quality of care. In India, where the healthcare system must serve more than 1.4 billion citizens with limited resources, these technologies can play a pivotal role in addressing systemic challenges such as inadequate rural access, shortages of medical professionals, real-time disease surveillance, and hospital resource optimization. International best practices, including the NHS AI Lab in the United Kingdom, Mayo Clinic initiatives in the United States, and Ping a Good Doctor in China, provide models that India can adapt and scale to its unique demographic and infrastructural context. Despite their vast potential, the adoption of AI and BDA faces several barriers. Data privacy and cybersecurity remain critical concerns, particularly with the emergence of new regulations and the sensitive nature of health-related information. Additionally, algorithmic bias and the uneven availability of digital infrastructure could exacerbate existing inequities if not adequately addressed. Looking forward, advancements in Edge AI, Explainable AI (XAI), and quantum-enhanced analytics are expected to extend the scope and reliability of AI-BDA systems. This paper argues that the integration of AI and BDA is not merely a technological advancement but a paradigm shifts in how societies innovate, make decisions, and deliver essential services. Specifically, it highlights the need for a human-centric, ethical, and affordable approach to healthcare innovation in India in order to unlock the full transformative potential of these technologies. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Indonesia’s education sector is transforming personalized learning and institutional management, offering improvements in student engagement, administrative efficiency, and data-driven decision-making. However, widespread adoption remains limited due to technological disparities, algorithmic bias, data privacy concerns, and low AI literacy among educators, especially in rural and under-resourced areas. This study aims to explore the role of AI in Indonesian education, identify key implementation challenges, and propose strategic approaches for ethical and inclusive integration. Using a qualitative descriptive analysis, the research synthesizes data from academic literature, policy documents, and case studies to evaluate the current landscape of AI-driven educational transformation. Findings reveal critical gaps in digital infrastructure, regulatory policy, and educator readiness, which restrict the scalability and effectiveness of AI applications. While adaptive learning technologies have enhanced individualized instruction, their deployment is uneven, exacerbated by regional inequalities. AI also supports educational administration, yet unresolved concerns about data transparency and privacy persist. This study concludes by proposing a multi-stakeholder approach for sustainable and equitable AI integration within Indonesia’s educational context. Recommendations include targeted infrastructure development, AI literacy initiatives for educators, robust data governance frameworks, and culturally responsive AI solutions. These insights contribute to ongoing efforts to bridge the digital divide and optimize AI's potential in education.
