AI washing: A conceptual exploration

Purpose This paper reconceptualises climate change not merely as a universal threat, but as a driver of competitive realignment in global tourism. It introduces the concept of climate-strategic tourism to capture how climatic shifts create both opportunities and vulnerabilities, generating asymmetrical patterns of advantage across destinations. Design/methodology/approach The paper develops a conceptual framework integrating three perspectives: destination competitiveness, political economy and climate justice. This model is illustrated through six regional cases – the Arctic, Northern and Western Europe, North America, Asia–Pacific, the Mediterranean and small island developing states (SIDS)/coral reef economies – to demonstrate how climate-induced advantage and disadvantage evolve under different geographic, economic and institutional conditions. Findings Climate change is producing structural asymmetries in tourism, creating new “winners” and “losers.” Existing governance models, focused primarily on resilience, overlook the strategic management and redistribution of climatic advantage. The paper introduces the concept of benefit justice to address this normative gap. Research limitations/implications As a conceptual study, the analysis is based on secondary literature. Future research should model climate advantage empirically and assess governance mechanisms for equitable adaptation. Practical implications Destination managers are encouraged to develop ethical branding, climate-sensitive strategies and adaptive infrastructure to manage emerging advantages responsibly. Social implications Equitable redistribution of climate benefits can reduce global tourism inequality and support solidarity between advantaged and vulnerable destinations, aligning with SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Originality/value The study pioneers the theorisation of climate-strategic tourism and introduces benefit justice as a governance principle, offering a forward-looking framework for tourism's unequal climate future.

This article departs from an observation that current practices of readers advisory (litteraturformidling) in public libraries tend to prioritize readers’ demands, taste, or contextual matters on the expense of literature itself. We ask what it means to put literature first and how research can underpin such practices. In a conceptual and exploratory study departing from Gerard Genette’s work on the paratext we draw inter alia on theory of literature, pragmatic philosophy, and the legislation on public libraries. By way of conceptual inquiries, we analyse what it would mean for the libarian to advocate works, collections, and other cultural artefacts in the library. We have developed an understanding of literary advocacy foregrounding five methodological devices: 1) listening carefully to literature; 2) talking on behalf of literature by articulating the reading experience; 3) addressing the reader as one that wishes to discover and find new ways of seeing; 4) cultivating the art of selection; and 5) attending to the democratic mandate of libraries and taking a position. Professional librarianship in terms of literary advocacy would mean to negotiate democratic values relative to the singularity of the work and relative to all the selections the advocate has to make. Our result then points towards a “tool” for professional research on the literary practices of public libraries too.

Metaphorical language, though often overlooked, plays a pivotal role in couple's therapy, shaping the dynamics of communication and influencing conflict resolution processes. This conceptual exploration delves into the multifaceted impact of metaphorical language on the therapeutic discourse within couples. Through a synthesis of existing literature and theoretical frameworks, this paper elucidates the intricate interplay between metaphorical expressions and the resolution of relational conflicts. The use of metaphorical language in couple's therapy serves as a symbolic bridge, facilitating the articulation of deeply rooted emotions and experiences that may otherwise remain inaccessible. Metaphors act as linguistic vehicles, enabling individuals to convey complex thoughts and feelings in a manner that transcends literal expression. Within the therapeutic context, metaphors offer a creative space for couples to explore their relationship dynamics, perceptions, and narratives. Furthermore, metaphorical language not only elucidates individual experiences but also shapes the shared reality constructed by couples. Metaphors can reveal underlying relational patterns, power dynamics, and unspoken assumptions, thereby fostering insight and empathy between partners. By reframing conflicts through metaphorical lenses, couples can gain a fresh perspective on their challenges, promoting collaborative problem-solving and mutual understanding. However, the impact of metaphorical language in couple's therapy is not unidimensional. Misinterpretations or divergent interpretations of metaphors may inadvertently exacerbate misunderstandings or conflicts within the therapeutic process. Therapists must navigate the nuances of metaphorical communication sensitively, balancing interpretation with validation of individual experiences and perspectives. This conceptual exploration highlights the significance of metaphorical language in shaping the therapeutic discourse and its potential implications for conflict resolution in couple's therapy. By embracing and exploring metaphorical expressions, therapists can harness the transformative power of language to facilitate insight, empathy, and ultimately, relational healing within couples. Further empirical research is warranted to elucidate the nuanced mechanisms through which metaphorical language influences therapeutic outcomes in couple's therapy.

The High Density Vertiplex Sub-Project, as part of NASA’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Project, has been in collaboration with a team from Wisk Aero focusing on vertiport operations, procedures, and concept development. A particular area of focus has been on the development of missed approach scenarios and procedures that highlight the potential changes in the nearer- and further-term operational time frames. Such changes relate to topic areas such as airspace design, automation and autonomy, roles and responsibilities of actors and stakeholders, airspace management services and systems, as well as technologies specific to vertiport operations management. This paper presents the current state of joint concept development through the established collaboration and the application of elements in ongoing testing as part of NASA’s High Density Vertiplex Sub-Project’s research strategy.

This paper argues that almost all other non-governmental institutions for instance banks and pension funds, in addition to the risk and audit committees, have credit committees in respect of banks and investment committees in respect of pension funds. These committees provide oversight on the core businesses of these institutions. In a similar manner, national government departments should not only have universal governance committees such as the audit and risk committees, instead the study envisions governance committees modelled around the idea parliamentary portfolio committees. The envisaged committees will remain governance committees with defined roles and responsibilities similar to the audit and risk committees that are already in existence in the national government departments.

Associations between the home physical environment and child self-regulation: A conceptual exploration

This paper examines three contemporary stories focusing on pregnancy and abortion, by contemporary Chinese women writers Zhong Ling (Taiwan), Tang Min (China), and Xi Xi (HK), in light of current feminist intervention into Michel Foucault’s theory of biopolitics. In particular, the paper turns to Elizabeth Grosz’ notion of corporal feminism and Julia Kristeva’s conceptual explorations on her theory of the abject in order to propose a notion of female creativity that is grounded within women’s bodily experiences and a notion of subjectivity that takes maternity as its epistemological model. The paper concludes with an extension of corporeal feminism to women’s writing in the area of cultural translation as mastering what Mary Zournasi has called “the art of foreignness.”

This chapter explores the conceptual affinity between translocality and glocalization. It begins with a brief overview of how globalization has prompted scholarship to reconsider the relationship among community, place and locality. The notions of glocalization and translocalization have been developed as conceptual proposals to reconcile globalization and placeness. The chapter offers a brief synopsis of the use of translocality within and across disciplinary boundaries. Next, it examines the conceptual convergences and divergences between glocalization and translocality. While glocal is often seen as privileging global flows into the local, translocality is frequently viewed as reversing this directionality. Thus, it offers scholars to explore hitherto marginalized groups by endowing them with a sense of agency. In addition, translocal can be viewed as a more refined or concrete notion of ideas and proposals related to transnational research. In this regard, the glocal-translocal conceptual relationship echoes the relationship between the concepts of globalization and transnationalism. While there is extensive affinity between them, the two concepts do not completely overlap and the distinction between them is justified. Both terms form part of the new 21st century conceptual vocabulary of the social sciences and their relationship remains fluid.

The development of Bitcoin and its underlying technology blockchain has enabled a new phenomenon called decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs). DAOs can be perceived as self-governing organizations whose management is based on programmed and encoded rules on a decentralized and distributed peer-to-peer network. These DAOs typically manage and allocate funds, often in the form of cryptocurrencies. However, in recent years, a variety of DAOs have been established to provide services (e.g., currency exchange, project financing), curate collections (e.g., art collections), or own and manage real assets (e.g., land). Currently, DAO literature focuses mainly on online communities managing digital assets; however, DAOs owning physical properties differ from them in localized communities, asset indivisibility, and additional complexity in collective acquisition, ownership, limited physical capacity, and decentralized governance. Such property-owning DAOs are interesting, because they fuel the transition from purely online organizations into organizations integrating with the physical world. From an organizational system theory perspective this article explores how a DAO owning properties could be designed by exploring three DAO projects that own properties. Applying a conceptual research design, we first identify DAO Design Principles obtained by traditional organizational system theory, followed by examining and describing the core organizational principles for property-owning DAOs. Based on a comprehensive discussion of the conceptual findings, we present a research agenda for further studies on DAOs owning properties.

The rapid advancements in artificial intelligence have revolutionized content creation across numerous domains, including the podcast industry. This paper investigates the potential of leveraging AI-driven podcast generation-focusing on the NotebookLM language model-to streamline and enhance the entire content production pipeline.Drawing on the latest developments in generative AI research, we examine how Note-bookLM can rapidly produce high-quality, contextually relevant, and stylistically diverse audio content that caters to a broad range of listener preferences.By integrating dynamic topic selection, personalized recommendations, and automated editing features, creators can significantly reduce the time and labor associated with traditional podcast production processes.(Epstein et al., 2023) In addition to highlighting the operational efficiencies and creative possibilities offered by NotebookLM, this paper explores how advanced personalization mechanisms can tailor content to individual user tastes and listener feedback loops.Such adaptive capabilities have the potential to elevate audience engagement, support data-driven storytelling, and foster deeper listener-creator connections. The paper further discusses the ethical implications of entrusting generative models with content production, focusing on issues such as veracity, representational fairness, intellectual property rights, and the assignment of accountability and responsibil-ity for AI-generated outputs.(Mann et al., 2023) We conclude by outlining best practices for responsible deployment, potential regulatory frameworks, and future research directions that balance innovation with ethical stewardship as AI-driven podcasting moves from conceptual exploration toward mainstream adoption.

Goodin (1996) has proposed a convenient tripartite scheme of dynamic mechanisms which drive institutional change: accidents, evolution, intentions. If we look at trends in the analytical perspectives of political scientists, the latter of these three forces, intentionality, have not fared well, be it as the key explanatory variable of institutional change that has actually occurred, be it as the moving force of prospective choices and changes that are deemed to be desirable or even „necessary“. As Helmut Wiesenthal (1995, 2002) has reminded us, the thrust of the theoretical tradition of the social choice, public choice, implementation research, „muddling through“ and bounded rationality theorems, as well as neo institutionalist and joint decision-making approaches all focus on the obstacles to and the pervasive improbability of major institutional innovations being the result of a widely agreed-upon intentional design of actors, be it elites or nonelites. Yet, interestingly, there seem to be counter-examples of what Wiesenthal has termed „holistic“ reforms, where some basic and comprehensive innovation of the social, political, and economic order of entire societies (equivalent to what is termed a political „paradigm shift“, following Hall (1986)) has actually taken place.

This paper takes the innovative trend of artificial intelligence (AI) technology as a starting point to explore its profound impact on the high-quality development of foreign trade. The article first clarifies the connotation and evaluation indicators of high-quality foreign trade development, and then reviews the global development dynamics of AI technology and its core application scenarios. Based on technology-driven theory, diffusion of innovations theory, and value chain reconfiguration theory, a theoretical framework for the integration of AI and foreign trade is constructed. The paper analyzes the empowering effects in key areas such as intelligent supply chain management, optimization of cross-border e-commerce platforms, and precision marketing, while also addressing potential risks such as data security and privacy protection. Building on theoretical review and conceptual exploration, the paper proposes a development model driven by AI to promote the transformation and upgrading of foreign trade, and provides strategic recommendations for governments and enterprises in policy formulation and implementation pathways. The aim is to offer both theoretical support and practical guidance for the high-quality development of foreign trade in the digital economy era.

The importance of entrepreneurial intention has been widely recognised as veritable and reliable predictor of entrepreneurial action, However, many individuals who intend to start businesses fail to act accordingly. This problem, known as the intention–action gap, has become a major concern in entrepreneurship studies. Drawing on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and positive psychology, this conceptual paper explores entrepreneurial optimism as a moderating variable that can bridge this intention-action gap. Entrepreneurial optimism can be defined as a positive cognitive bias toward expecting favorable outcomes thereby enhancing persistence, confidence, and resilience under uncertainty. This study integrates TPB with psychological capital theory to propose a model in which optimism strengthens the relationship between entrepreneurial intention and entrepreneurial action. The By synthesized insights from recent and established studies, this study extends TPB’s explanatory power and offers a more psychologically grounded understanding of entrepreneurial action. The paper also outlines implications for entrepreneurship education and policy in developing economies like Nigeria, particularly regarding programs that inculcate and cultivate optimism among young entrepreneurs. The paper concludes with calls for empirical validation to further examine optimism’s moderating role and other psychological factors in the intention–action relationship.
