Abstract

Algebraic data types are the natural target of pattern-matching functions. When the type is parametric then the pattern-matching functions typically support parametric polymorphism. In addition, bondi supports generic functional programming by introducing a small family of primitive, or representing data types, which can be used to define generic functions such as map, with one case for each primitive constructor. Each resulting case has a different type, so type specialisation is involved, too. During a type declaration, additional cases can be added to existing functions.
