Linear prediction filters are powerful tools widely utilized in various image processing tasks. Recently, this methodology has been adapted for use in renewable energy forecasting, particularly for predicting solar radiation. The success of such predictions heavily depends on the selection of an appropriate filter template and the accurate determination of its coefficients. In this study, a novel optimization framework is introduced for linear prediction filters aimed at two-dimensional (2D) solar radiation forecasting. Within this framework, the optimal filter coefficients are determined using alternative metaheuristic algorithms. Specifically, the coefficients for different filter templates are optimized using the Dragonfly Algorithm (DA), Deer Hunting Algorithm (DHA), and Simulated Annealing (SA). To conduct the prediction, hourly solar radiation and temperature data, along with the derivative of temperature, are utilized. These data are first transformed into images, which are then used to generate various 2D filter templates. The metaheuristic algorithms are employed to identify the optimal coefficients for each template. Experimental results show that the Dragonfly Algorithm consistently outperforms the others across all filter configurations. When using a filter template that includes both derivative temperature and radiation data, the DA achieves the best optimization performance with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 83.54 W/m2.
