Analytic torsion forms for fibrations by projective curves

We report on the construction of secondary invariants in connection with the Atiyah-Singer index theorem for families, and the Theorem of Riemann-Roch-Grothendieck. The local families index theorem plays an important role in the construction. In complex geometry, the corresponding objects are the analytic torsion forms and the analytic torsion currents. These objects exhibit natural functorial properties with respect to composition of maps. Gillet and Soulé have used these objects to prove a Riemann-Roch theorem in Arakelov geometry. Also we state a Riemann-Roch theorem for flat vector bundles, and report on the construction of corresponding higher analytic torsion forms.

Equivariant approach to weighted projective curves

The purpose of this paper is to give an explicit local formula for the difference of two natural versions of equivariant analytic torsion in de Rham theory. This difference is the sum of the integral of a Chern-Simons current and of a new invariant, the V -invariant of an odd dimensional manifold equipped with an action of a compact Lie group. The V -invariant localizes on the critical manifolds of invariant Morse-Bott functions. The results in this paper are shown to be compatible with results of Bunke, and also our with previous results on analytic torsion forms.

In this note we prove a vanishing theorem for the analytic torsion of a locally symmetric space.

This is the second of a series of papers dealing with an analog in Arakelov geometry of the holomorphic Lefschetz fixed point formula. We use the main result of the first paper to prove a residue formula "`a la Bott" for arithmetic characteristic classes living on arithmetic varieties acted upon by a diagonalisable torus; recent results of Bismut-Goette on the equivariant (Ray-Singer) analytic torsion play a key role in the proof.

We give a new proof of the Jantzen sum formula for integral representations of Chevalley schemes over Spec Z. This is done by applying the fixed point formula of Lefschetz type in Arakelov geometry to generalized flag varieties. Our proof involves the computation of the equivariant Ray-Singer torsion for all equivariant bundles over complex homogeneous spaces. Furthermore, we find several explicit formulae for the global height of any generalized flag variety.

In this paper we extend first the Bismut-Lott's analytic torsion form for flat vector bundles to the boundary case, then we establish its gluing formula on a smooth fibration under the assumption that a fiberwise Morse function exists. We assume that the metrics have product structures near the cutting hypersurface.

Toeplitz operators and the full asymptotic torsion forms

We present a new proof, as well as a C/Q extension (and also certain C/Z extension), of the Riemann–Roch–Grothendieck theorem of Bismut–Lott for flat vector bundles. The main techniques used are the computations of the adiabatic limits of η-invariants associated to the so-called sub-signature operators. We further show that the Bismut–Lott analytic torsion form can be derived naturally from transgressions of η-forms appearing in the adiabatic limit computations.

We prove the smoothness of the L^2-analytic torsion form on some fiber bundles with non-compact fibers of positive Novikov-Shubin invariant. We do so by generalizing the arguments of Azzali-Goette-Schick to an appropriate Sobolev space, and proving that the Novikov-Shubin invariant remains positive in the Sobolev settings, using an argument of Alvarez Lopez-Kordyukov.

For smooth families $\\mathcal{X} \\to S$ of projective algebraic curves and holomorphic line bundles $\\mathcal{L, M} \\to X$ equipped with flat relative connections, we prove the existence of a canonical and functorial “intersection” connection on the Deligne pairing $\\langle \\mathcal{L, M} \\rangle \\to S$. This generalizes the construction of Deligne in the case of Chern connections of hermitian structures on $\\mathcal{L}$ and $\\mathcal{M}$. A relationship is found with the holomorphic extension of analytic torsion, and in the case of trivial fibrations we show that the Deligne isomorphism is flat with respect to the connections we construct. Finally, we give an application to the construction of a meromorphic connection on the hyperholomorphic line bundle over the twistor space of rank one flat connections on a Riemann surface.

In the present paper, we study fundamental groups of curves in positive characteristic. Let $$X^{\bullet }$$ be a pointed stable curve of type $$(g_{X}, n_{X})$$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $$p>0$$, $$\Gamma _{X^{\bullet }}$$ the dual semi-graph of $$X^{\bullet }$$, and $$\Pi _{X^{\bullet }}$$ the admissible fundamental group of $$X^{\bullet }$$. In the present paper, we study a kind of group-theoretical invariant $$\text {Avr}_{p}(\Pi _{X^{\bullet }})$$ associated to the isomorphism class of $$\Pi _{X^{\bullet }}$$ called the limit of p-averages of $$\Pi _{X^{\bullet }}$$, which plays a central role in the theory of anabelian geometry of curves over algebraically closed fields of positive characteristic. Without any assumptions concerning $$\Gamma _{X^{\bullet }}$$, we give a lower bound and a upper bound of $$\text {Avr}_{p}(\Pi _{X^{\bullet }})$$. In particular, we prove an explicit formula for $$\text {Avr}_{p}(\Pi _{X^{\bullet }})$$ under a certain assumption concerning $$\Gamma _{X^{\bullet }}$$ which generalizes a formula for $$\text {Avr}_{p}(\Pi _{X^{\bullet }})$$ obtained by Tamagawa. Moreover, if $$X^{\bullet }$$ is a component-generic pointed stable curve, we prove an explicit formula for $$\text {Avr}_{p}(\Pi _{X^{\bullet }})$$ without any assumptions concerning $$\Gamma _{X^{\bullet }}$$, which can be regarded as an averaged analogue of the results of Nakajima, Zhang, and Ozman–Pries concerning p-rank of abelian etale coverings of projective generic curves for admissible coverings of component-generic pointed stable curves.

In this paper, we present the foundations of Summability Calculus, which places various established results in number theory, infinitesimal calculus, summability theory, asymptotic analysis, information theory, and the calculus of finite differences under a single simple umbrella. Using Summability Calculus, any given finite sum of the form $f(n) = \sum_{k=a}^n s_k\, g(k,n)$, where $s_k$ is an arbitrary periodic sequence, becomes immediately \emph{in analytic form}. Not only can we differentiate and integrate with respect to the bound $n$ without having to rely on an explicit analytic formula for the finite sum, but we can also deduce asymptotic expansions, accelerate convergence, assign natural values to divergent sums, and evaluate the finite sum for any $n\in\mathbb{C}$. This follows because the discrete definition of the simple finite sum $f(n) = \sum_{k=a}^n s_k\, g(k,n)$ embodies a \emph{unique natural} definition for all $n\in\mathbb{C}$. Throughout the paper, many established results are strengthened such as the Bohr-Mollerup theorem, Stirling's approximation, Glaisher's approximation, and the Shannon-Nyquist sampling theorem. In addition, many celebrated theorems are extended and generalized such as the Euler-Maclaurin summation formula and Boole's summation formula. Finally, we show that countless identities that have been proved throughout the past 300 years by different mathematicians using different approaches can actually be derived in an elementary straightforward manner using the rules of Summability Calculus.

We give a simple axiomatic description of the degree 0 part of the polylogarithm on abelian schemes and show that its realisation in analytic Deligne cohomology can be described in terms of the Bismut–Kohler higher analytic torsion form of the Poincare bundle.
