Analytical Study and Implementation of Web Performance Testing Tools

Recently, enterprises, organizations, and software companies are building more and more web applications to provide their services over the Internet. In order to fulfill various requirements, the complexity of web applications nowadays is increasing dramatically. As a result, the performance characteristics of web applications, including response time, throughput, etc, become more critical than before and should be taken into careful consideration. If the response time of a web application is poor, users may lose their interests even the function of the web application is correct. Therefore, how to execute performance testing on a complex web application systematically and efficiently will be an important issue. In this paper, a performance testing framework for REST-based web applications is introduced. The performance testing framework aims to provide software testers with an integrated process from test cases design, test scripts generation, to test execution. Based on the test cases designed by software testers and the appropriate software artifacts preserved by the framework (e.g., API document), the framework generates the corresponding performance test scripts, which can be executed by specific performance test tools. This helps software testers to focus more in the design of performance test cases. In addition, effort needed to understand the design and implementation of the application and to learn the operation of testing tools decrease. Thus, the efficiency of performance testing can be highly facilitated.

Software Testing is known as an important part in software development as the product needs to meet the user's expectations and requirements. The testing tool is developed along with the development of automated software testing to act as a medium to test the software, and the existence of these tools eventually cut down the human's effort, energy, and time. Software testing tools are the key assets of a project that can improve productivity and software quality. As there are many tools in the market nowadays, the process of selecting the tool should be explained in detail and specific towards its functions and efficiency. This paper aims to help the authors in making the tool selection from the various versions of testing tools. This study finally chose the most suitable tool according to the research needs.

The purpose of this case study is to evaluate how and which performance testing tools which can be used in continuous integration (CI) environments. By doing so, developers can see the effects of changes immediately and react against performance problems of their applications. This will help companies to eliminate performance issues which the media is reporting about more often every day. CI provides the reference platform for executing the performance tests and the performance testing tools provide metrics like response time and percentage of errors. These metrics can be combined through CI plugins. The results of this combination can be visualized in form of graphs and tables. Through this case study, we give a short market overview of current CI servers and performance testing tools. In respect of the requirements by adesso AG, we will only evaluate performance testing tools, which can be integrated into the Atlassian Bamboo or Jenkins CI. We evaluated six performance testing tools of which four were integratable into the CI servers. Based on the results of our evaluation we will give a recommendation.

Software testing provides a means to reduce errors, cut maintenance and overall software costs. Numerous software development and testing methodologies, tools, and techniques have emerged over the last few decades promising to enhance software quality. While it can be argued that there has been some improvement it is apparent that many of the techniques and tools are isolated to a specific lifecycle phase or functional area. This paper presents a set of best practice models and techniques integrated in optimized and quantitatively managed software testing process (OptimalSQM), expanding testing throughout the SDLC. Further, we explained how can Quantitative Defect Management Model be enhanced to be practically useful for determining which activities need to be addressed to improve the degree of early and cost-effective software fault detection with assured confidence is proposed. To enable software designers to achieve a higher quality for their design, a better insight into quality predictions for their design choices, test plans improvement using Simulated Defect Removal Cost Savings model is offered in this paper.

Performance is one of the most important business requirements for web based applications. The suitability of better platform for any web based application depends on various factors attributable to processor architecture, memory, local/ global network, input/output characteristics etc. Performance testing is an important part of any distributed or web application testing plan. Inclusion of performance estimates into planning and development cycles ensures that the application delivered to the user satisfies sustained performance even at high load, availability and scalability requirements. In this paper we have thrown light on performance comparison of web applications on single and multi core servers. The tests have been carried out on single processor single core server and also on dual processor quad core Xeon based server. The performance comparison was carried out based on response time, throughput (No. of hits v/s response time) and connection pooling v/s no connection pooling. It was found that performance of Java applications running on the multi-core servers is far better than those running on single core servers. Web applications on quad-core server give better performance, high availability and scalability. Apache JMeter was used to load test the functional behaviour and measure performance based on throughput (No of hits v/s response time) for dynamic querying of data using Java servlets on Tomcat web server. Based on the analysis of performance of web server under varying load of no. of users and threads, it was found that applications on quad core server give more throughput and less response time as compared to single core server. Connection pooling increases the performance of web applications by reusing active database connections instead of creating a new connection with every request. Performance was compared by running the tests using Java servlets for connection pooling and also by acquiring connections directly from the JDBC driver without connection pooling. Based on the test results it was found that in case of quad core server, throughput i.e the number of requests served per second is much higher and reuse of connections from pool of connections showed significant improvement in application performance. This paper describes the results of tests carried out for comparing performance (based on response time) between web applications running on single core server and on quad core server. Tests have also been carried out to analyze advantage of connection pooling over no connection pooling. The test results have been shown graphically.

One of the main concerns in the software industry continues to be the development of high quality software. This concern will be exacerbated as software systems become more complex. The training of software developers continues to grow in academia since more institutions are offering software engineering (SE) courses. However, the list of topics that are expected to be covered in this course leaves little or no time for topics that focus on developing quality software, such as software testing and the use of testing tools.In this paper we describe an approach that non-intrusively integrates the use of software testing tools in SE courses. The cornerstone of our approach is the interaction students have with a Web-Based Repository of Software Testing Tools (WReSTT) that contains tutorials on testing concepts and testing tools. WReSTT employs both collaborative learning and social networking features that are attractive to students. We present the results of preliminary study performed in two SE courses that show how using the resources in WReSTT can potentially impact the students' understanding of software testing and the use of testing tools.

Considerable amount of cloud adoption is proven in the area of software testing. There are several providers in the area of hosted testing tools and services like IBM and HP. The functional testing tools cover a variety of aspects in functionality testing for Web applications, Web services and mobile applications. Another set of tools in relation to cloud environments is in the area of performance testing from cloud providers such as BlazeMeter, SOASTA, LoadStorm and Keynote. This chapter discusses various options available for leveraging cloud for performance testing of software applications. Additionally, the chapter covers some of the key considerations when selecting the solution providers. The chapter also presents a conceptual reference framework for leveraging the readily available public cloud infrastructures for optimized cost and high-volume load simulations from different regions for efficient testing. Such a custom framework can help in making the enterprise system services more market ready, which in turn aids in improving the overall quality of the enterprise systems. Proposed reference framework can be used in performance testing, regression testing, benchmarking and product certification of any on-premise or cloud-deployed services. This helps in reducing the overall testing cost and test cycle duration, thereby achieving accurate capacity planning.

Software development, testing, and maintenance tools must yield assurance information in a standardized form. Developers can use this information to argue that the software is adequate for its use and secure enough for the risk. NIST's Software Assurance Metrics And Tool Evaluation (SAMATE) project is developing specifications for software assurance tools. These specifications can include optional features for assurance information reports, encouraging tools to provide them. During maintenance, developers can collect this information to make explicit assurance cases

In software testing process, test data generation represents an important step for high quality software, even for mobile devices. As proposed in previous works, a potential source for random data generation is represented by the UI layout files that are used for almost all mobile platforms (Android, iOS, Windows Phone/Mobile). This paper continues the previous work and presents a test data generation system based on Android layout files. The test data generator uses DSL files as input and generates test data that conform to several testing principles. The generated test data could be stored in XML files or any format required by the testing frameworks.

It is imperative to safeguard computer applications and information systems against the growing number of cyber-attacks. Automated software testing can be a promising solution to quickly analyze many lines of code and detect vulnerabilities and possible attack vectors by generating function-specific testing data. This process draws similarities to the constrained adversarial examples generated by adversarial learning methods, so there could be significant benefits to the integration of these methods in testing tools. Therefore, this literature review is focused on the current state-of-the-art of constrained data generation methods applied for adversarial learning and software testing, aiming to guide researchers and developers to enhance software testing tools with adversarial testing methods and improve the resilience and robustness of their information systems. The found constrained data generation applications were systematized, and the advantages and limitations of approaches specific for white-box, grey-box, and black-box testing were analyzed, identifying research gaps and opportunities to improve automated testing tools with data generated by adversarial attacks.

Effective and efficient testing with reduced costs and a high fault detection capability is the desirable goal in industry which can be achieved only through automation of all parts of the testing process. In the past decades, a great amount of research effort has been spent on automating all various parts of the testing process such as test case derivation, test selection, test oracle construction, test execution, and others. In addition, there has been a rapid growth in automated software testing tools which is stimulated in part through the shift towards agile development practices in industry that demands a high level of automation. Work on this topic has long been published as an important part of software engineering. In recent years, testing has been consistently among the top-most popular topics in submissions to software engineering conferences. The practice of software test automation (TA) has also moved forward significantly in the past few years. However, progress in TA is still required. Software systems have become more and more complicated through the integration of components developed by different vendors and using different techniques in different programming languages running on different platforms. The advent of cloud computing, mobile computing and the Internet of Things has imposed grave new challenges to TA. Those systems become increasingly reactive to changes in their environment, requiring equally adaptive TA approaches. Few software testing tools can currently handle the needed requirements to test such systems.

AI technology brought into the field of healthcare is a matter of significant importance as it has contributed to a qualitative improvement of patient care, diagnostics as well as treatment planning. The integrity of the AI-driven healthcare applications including the accuracy, reliability, and safety aspects is what the whole game is about. Automated functional testing, performance testing, security testing, and usability testing are the AI-powered testing methodologies that are the gateway to the development of reliable software. Problematic topics are emphasized in this research such as AI-powered software testing methodologies and their impact on healthcare applications, and the challenges addressing widespread adoption. Forward-thinking is also addressed surrounding the creation of explainable AI (XAI) in testing, continuous integration with DevOps, and AI-powered real-time validation frameworks to ensure the reliability and security of AI-driven healthcare systems.

Software testing is an important process in software quality assurance(SQA). Software testing consumes the majority of the software developers' time and cost of all the phases of system development. An important problem in software testing is to determine whether a program has been tested enough with a testing criterion and when one could stop testing. On the other hand, software measurement is used to estimate the quality of a software. Complexity measures can be used to compare software quality and development cost. This paper proposes a new testing approach which choosing testing path based on path complexity. The process is to use a set of testing paths that satisfying all-uses testing criterion, and then choose the testing path with the most complexity to test. This process is continued until the program can be accepted. The proposed formula is used to determine if it is possible to stop testing before satisfying all-du-paths testing criterion. The main contribution of the paper is that software developers can choose a proper testing action with lower testing effort.

A Web-Based Perioperative Dashboard as a Platform for Anesthesia Informatics Innovation.

Background & Problem Statement - Software testing is a critical phase in the software development lifecycle (SDLC), ensuring that applications function correctly, meet user requirements, and maintain high- quality standards. Traditional software testing approaches, including manual testing and rule-based automation, often face challenges in scalability, efficiency, and adaptability to dynamic software environments. Traditional testing methods are overwhelmed by complex software systems which slows down defect detection and extends both testing costs and release schedules. Machine Learning (ML) has emerged as a transformative solution, introducing predictive and adaptive capabilities that optimize test case selection, automate defect detection, and enhance overall software quality assurance (QA). This study explores the integration of ML in software testing, addressing the challenges of traditional QA methodologies and demonstrating how AI-driven frameworks improve testing efficiency. Methodology - To investigate the impact of ML in software testing, this research adopts a systematic approach by analyzing ML-driven test automation techniques, including predictive testing, adaptive test execution, and automated test case generation. Research reviews how Google Microsoft Facebook IBM and Deep Code put ML-based quality assurance frameworks into operation. The study leverages supervised learning, reinforcement learning, deep learning, and NLP-based techniques to demonstrate how ML models predict software defects, dynamically adapt test cases, and optimize testing resources. The research tests how ML-based testing models operate within CI/CD pipelines to improve ongoing testing and deployment flow. Analysis & Results - The analysis of ML-driven software testing reveals that predictive analytics improves early defect detection rates. It helps developers spend 37% less time debugging their work. Adaptive testing models, including self-healing test scripts, minimize maintenance costs by 50% and enhance test reliability in agile environments. The integration of NLP-based test case generation increases test coverage. NLP technology enables automatic connection between requirements and test cases at 89% success rate. Additionally, reinforcement learning techniques improve test case selection, reducing redundant test executions by 43%. Our research shows different ML methods work well to lessen incorrect error alerts. ML integration for QA surely increasing defect prediction accuracy and optimizing test execution time. Findings & Contributions - This research contributes to the field of AI-driven software testing by providing a comprehensive framework for ML-based QA methodologies. Our study shows that machine learning helps find more software problems better adapts test cases and lowers testing expenses to solve present software development needs. The study also identifies critical challenges, including data availability, model interpretability, and computational overhead, suggesting future research directions in Explainable AI (XAI), hybrid AI-ML testing models, and AI-driven security testing. As the industry moves toward AI-first software testing, this research paves the way for fully autonomous QA frameworks, enabling intelligent, scalable, and cost- effective software validation techniques.
