Aspect based sentiment analysis datasets for Bangla text

With proliferation of user-generated reviews, new opportunities and challenges arise. The advance of Web technologies allows people to access a large amount of reviews of products and services online. Knowing what others like and dislike becomes increasingly important for their decision making in online shopping. The retailers also care more than ever about online reviews, because a vast pool of reviews enables them to monitor reputations and collect feedbacks efficiently. However, people often find difficult times in identifying and summarizing fine-grained sentiments buried in the opinion-rich resources. The traditional sentiment analysis, which focuses on the overall sentiments, fails to uncover the sentiments with regard to the aspects of the reviewed entities. This dissertation studied the research problem of Aspect Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA), which is to reveal the aspect-dependent sentiment information of review text. ABSA consists of several subtasks: 1) aspect extraction, 2) aspect term extraction, 3) aspect category classification, and 4) sentiment polarity classification at aspect level. We focused on the approach of topic models and neural networks for ABSA. First, to extract the aspects from a collection of reviews and to detect the sentiment polarity regarding the aspects in each review, we proposed a few probabilistic graphical models, which can model words distribution in reviews and aspect ratings at the same time. Second, we presented a multi-task learning model based on long-short term memory and convolutional neural network for aspect category classification and aspect term extraction. Third, for aspect-level sentiment polarity classification, we developed a gated convolution neural network, which can be applied to aspect category sentiment analysis as well as aspect target sentiment analysis.

Sentiment analysis (SA) is one of the most active and rapidly developing research areas in both information retrieval and text mining fields of computer science. SA is the process of analysing, handling, generalizing, and reasoning about user sentiments, opinions, and emotions hidden within the text by using sentiment. There are various categories of levels of SA: (1) document-level, (2) sentence-level, and (3) aspect-level. This paper is focused on sorting out some Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) works. ABSA is one of the primary tasks in sentiment analysis, which involves identifying the expression of an opinion or sensation of an object in a particular dimension or feature. ABSA involves two primary subtasks: (1) aspect extraction and (2) aspect-based sentiment classification. In contrast to document-and sentence-based sentiment analysis, ABSA simultaneously considers sentiment and target information. Generally, the ABSA methods can be categorized into Transformer based ABSA and Graph Neural Network based ABSA. This paper introduces some popular frameworks, datasets, and evaluation metrics of ABSA tasks based on the above-proposed classification and methodology.

As a fine-grained sentiment analysis subtask in the natural language processing (NLP) community, aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) aims to predict the sentiment polarity of the aspect terms according to the given sentence. In previous research, external affective knowledge has been utilized to enhance the representation of the sentiment information contained in the text, which has achieved impressive progress in ABSA task. However, it is worth noting that the external knowledge employed is usually leveraged from the single-dimensional perspective, which lacks diversified and multiple-dimensional exploration and leads to insufficient comprehension of the complex sentiment information. Thus, this paper proposes a novel ABSA network to fully exploit the sentiment features from triple dimensions, namely the psychology knowledge assisted graph attention networks (VADGAT). Preliminarily, to obtain the task-relevant semantic representation, an aspect-oriented template is devised firstly to guide the fine-tuning of the pre-trained language model. Besides, to fully leverage the triple-dimensional sentiment, they are injected into the normal dependency graph to construct three mutually independent adjacent matrices, which are implemented by graph attention networks (GAT) to extract the relations among graph nodes, progressively. Meanwhile, to be treated as the fourth dimension of human beings’ sentiment, SenticNet is also leveraged to enhance the sentiment intensity of the words in the text, which are expected to highlight implicit information and support the final sentiment inference. Moreover, an intentional shadow network is devised and leveraged to reinforce the screening ability of sentiment information, which is integrated with the mainstream representation proportionally. Furthermore, to improve the effectiveness of this innovative strategy, this paper utilizes the Jensen–Shannon divergence to evaluate the similarity between the mainstream and the shadow modules and optimizes the designed VADGAT eventually. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, this paper conducted extensive experiments on five publicly available datasets, and the results show that the approach outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

Due to the rapid increase in User-Generated Content (UGC) data, opinion mining, also called sentiment analysis, has attracted much attention in both academia and industry. Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA), a subfield of sentiment analysis, aims to extract the aspect and the corresponding sentiment simultaneously. Previous works in ABSA may generate undesired aspects, require a large amount of training data, or produce unsatisfactory results. This paper proposes a Graph Neural Network based method to automatically generate aspect-specific sentiment words using a small number of aspect seed words and general sentiment words. It subsequently leverages the aspect-specific sentiment words to improve the Joint Aspect-Sentiment Autoencoder (JASA) model. We conduct experiments on two datasets to verify the proposed model. Aspect based sentiment analysis (ABSA) is a fine-grained sentiment analysis task, whose main goal is to identify the sentiment polarity of an aspect in a sentence. A sentence may contain many different aspects, each of which may have different sentiment polarities. Based on the current researches in this area, ABSA can be divided into two subtasks: aspect-category sentiment analysis (ACSA) and aspect-term sentiment analysis (ATSA). In the past, more commonly used method is to adopt the time serial algorithm such as Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) or Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), which usually needs more training time and has complex structures. Moreover, many previous models lack the abilities to effectively learn the internal structure features of sentences. For ABSA, sometimes the sentence structure may significantly affect the final classification results. However, we found the excellent performance of self-attention algorithm and gating mechanism in some other related researches. Therefore, to solve the problems above, we build a new model based on gating mechanism, combined with convolutional neural networks (CNN) and self-attention mechanism. First, we use self-attention to extract the structural feature of the input, and integrate it with the features of the original sentence extracted by CNN. On such basis, we further combine the aspect-category or aspect-term of the input sentence to form the final sentiment feature. Experiments on SemEval datasets show the performance of our models and the effectiveness of the model is proved.

Semantics perception and refinement network for aspect-based sentiment analysis

The abundance of data on the internet makes analysis a must. Aspect-based sentiment analysis helps extract valuable information from textual data. Because of limited Arabic resources, this paper enriches the Arabic dataset landscape by creating AraMA, the first and largest Arabic multi-aspect corpus. AraMA comprises 10,750 Google Maps reviews for restaurants in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It covers four aspect categories—food, environment, service, and price—along with four sentiment polarities: positive, negative, neutral, and conflict. All AraMA reviews are labeled with at least two aspect categories. A second version, named AraMAMS, includes reviews labeled with at least two different sentiments, making it the first Arabic multi-aspect, multi-sentiment dataset. AraMAMS has 5312 reviews covering the same four aspect categories and sentiment polarities. Both corpora were evaluated using naïve biased (NB), support vector classification (SVC), linear SVC, and stochastic gradient descent (SGD) models. In the AraMA corpus, the aspect categories task achieved a 91.41% F1 measure result using the SVC model, while in the AraMAMS corpus, the best F1 measure result for aspect categories task reached 91.70% using the linear SVC model.

Reading massive amounts of user-generated text and pulling out the relevant aspects and opinions is a complicated process. Summaries, on the other hand, help busy people who only have a little bit of time to read get the gist of the information quickly. Text summarization is the process of taking the original text and making a shorter version of it that still has all of its informational value and main idea. Humans have a hard time summarizing long texts by hand. Different ways to summarize a text can be put into groups based on the more general techniques of extractive and abstractive summarization. The research paper discusses the need for generating aspect-based summaries and Sentiment analysis. A framework is proposed based on extracting coherent aspects from the reviews and applying the extractive summarization method to generate summaries. In addition, providing insights into the reviews of tourist attractions by using aspect-based sentiment analysis. The results are evaluated using crowdsourcing, Fairsumm, and Centroid method. The crowdsourcing method gives the best result on aspect-based summaries.

Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA) is essential for extracting detailed sentiment polarity regarding specific aspects in product reviews, providing deeper insights into customer opinions on various product attributes. Unlike document-level sentiment analysis, ABSA allows a more granular understanding, crucial for e-commerce analytics and decision-making systems. This study investigates the effectiveness of transformer-based models, such as BERT and RoBERTa, in performing ABSA for product review mining.Purpose:This research aims to explore the application of transformer-based models for aspect-based sentiment analysis, comparing their performance with traditional deep learning models (LSTM and CNN) in the context of mining product reviews. The study evaluates how transformer-based models can more effectively capture sentiment polarity at the aspect level.Methods/Study design/approach:The study uses publicly available product review datasets from large-scale e-commerce platforms, where each review is annotated with aspect terms and sentiment polarities (positive, negative, neutral). The datasets were split into training, validation, and test sets in an 80:10:10 ratio. The models—BERT, RoBERTa, LSTM, and CNN—were fine-tuned on the ABSA task. Performance was evaluated using standard metrics: accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score.Result/Findings:The results show that transformer-based models, especially RoBERTa, significantly outperform conventional deep learning baselines like LSTM and CNN. RoBERTa achieved the best performance with an accuracy of 0.93 and an F1-score of 0.92, while BERT achieved an accuracy of 0.91 and an F1-score of 0.90. In contrast, LSTM and CNN achieved F1-scores of 0.82 and 0.84, respectively. The transformer models excel in capturing contextual dependencies and associating sentiment polarity with the correct aspects, particularly in complex and multi-aspect sentences. This highlights the superior ability of transformers to handle long-range dependencies and complex sentence structures compared to LSTM and CNN.The findings confirm that transformer-based models are highly effective for aspect-based sentiment analysis, providing a more reliable approach for product review mining. Future research should address the efficiency and interpretability of these models, particularly for large-scale deployment in real-world e-commerce applications.

Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) has become an essential field in Natural Language Processing (NLP) in recent years.ABSA not only categorizes sentiment as positive, negative, or neutral but also understands the specific aspects or topics discussed in the text review.This study focuses on two important elements of ABSA: Aspect Term Extraction (ATE) and Aspect Sentiment Classification (ASC).This study uses a combination of Sentence Embedding (SBERT) techniques, Part-of-Speech tagging, cosine-similarity calculation to assess words with their respective aspect labels, and the sparse attention mechanism (BIGBIRD) method, which has been proven to increase accuracy effectively and is effective in terms of time and memory usage.By applying this method to two hotel review datasets, Traveloka Review and Semeval 2016 dataset, it is proven to work well on two ABSA tasks, namely ATE and ASC.The results of the ATE test obtained an accuracy of 0.99, and the ASC test obtained an accuracy of 0.89.This study contributes to the advancement of ABSA by introducing a new methodology that improves the accuracy of aspect term extraction and sentiment classification.Additionally, it identifies avenues for future research, including exploring additional techniques to improve model performance and address potential limitations.

Maximal activation weighted memory for aspect based sentiment analysis

With the extensive growth of user interactions through prominent advances of the Web, sentiment analysis has obtained more focus from an academic and a commercial point of view. Recently, sentiment analysis in the Bangla language is progressively being considered as an important task, for which previous approaches have attempted to detect the overall polarity of a Bangla document. To the best of our knowledge, there is no research on the aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) of Bangla text. This can be described as being due to the lack of available datasets for ABSA. In this paper, we provide two publicly available datasets to perform the ABSA task in Bangla. One of the datasets consists of human-annotated user comments on cricket, and the other dataset consists of customer reviews of restaurants. We also describe a baseline approach for the subtask of aspect category extraction to evaluate our datasets.

In the expanding field of sentiment analysis, the integration of personality prediction into aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) represents a novel and promising approach to enhance the accuracy and depth of sentiment detection. This paper proposes a unique framework that leverages the Big Five personality traits (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism) alongside Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, under a multitask learning paradigm, to improve the performance of ABSA. This is, to the best of knowledge, the first work considering the use of personality traits as auxiliary tasks in order to capture the manifold subtle ways in which personality would influence the expression of sentiment towards the different aspects of products or services. And then, model uses the LSTM component to model the sequential character of the text, which makes the extraction accurate in terms of the aspect terms and sentiment polarities. The proposed model designs a multitask learning strategy simultaneously to predict sentiments and personality traits. Such joint learning will allow enhancing the model's understanding of textual context and sentiment expression. Thorough experiments on many benchmark datasets show that the proposed approach is competitive with the state of the art for the aspect-based sentiment analysis and provides some of the deepest insights into personality predictions. Model has obtained F1-scores of 79.78%, 83.67%, and 88.80 % on the Twitter, Laptop, and Restaurant datasets, respectively. These results highlight a significant improvement over existing methods in the literature. For instance, our model outperformed traditional approaches like RAM, which achieved 69.36% on the Twitter dataset, and even advanced techniques such as DualGCN+Bert, which scored 77.4% on Twitter. It can be generally concluded that this research finally opens the way to a new and meaningful opportunity for sentiment analysis applications: integrated into ABSA models, personality prediction advances applications ranging from personalized recommendation systems to the nuance market analysis tools. As far as we know this study is the first attempt to utilise personality feature to enhance sentiment prediction tasks.

Aspect-based sentiment analysis is a fine-grained sentiment analysis that focuses on the sentiment polarity of different aspects of text, and most current research methods use a combination of dependent syntactic analysis and graphical neural networks. In this paper, a graph attention network aspect-based sentiment analysis model based on the weighting of dependencies (WGAT) is designed to address the problem in that traditional models do not sufficiently analyse the types of syntactic dependencies; in the proposed model, graph attention networks can be weighted and averaged according to the importance of different nodes when aggregating information. The model first transforms the input text into a low-dimensional word vector through pretraining, while generating a dependency syntax graph by analysing the dependency syntax of the input text and constructing a dependency weighted adjacency matrix according to the importance of different dependencies in the graph. The word vector and the dependency weighted adjacency matrix are then fed into a graph attention network for feature extraction, and sentiment polarity is predicted through the classification layer. The model can focus on syntactic dependencies that are more important for sentiment classification during training, and the results of the comparison experiments on the Semeval-2014 laptop and restaurant datasets and the ACL-14 Twitter social comment dataset show that the WGAT model has significantly improved accuracy and F1 values compared to other baseline models, validating its effectiveness in aspect-level sentiment analysis tasks.

Background: Mobile app usage is increasing in the digital age, with Ride-Hailing app becoming the primary example of this trend. To obtain valuable understanding of how people perceive and interact with mobile app, user reviews on platforms such as Google Play are usually analyzed. This analysis can assist developers to identify areas for improvement in both Ride-hailing and Google Play App. A promising method that can be used to analyze user perception in this instance is Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA). Objective: This research aimed to apply ABSA to user reviews using Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) models. In this context, aspect identification and topic modeling were performed by using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). The model extracted topics from the reviews and used Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) to define the aspects of the topics to further enhance the analysis. For consistency and accuracy, the method included sentiment annotation by a human annotator. Methods: A total of two datasets were used in this research, with the first collected by scraping user reviews of Ride-Hailing App while the second was obtained from Kaggle, and to identify relevant topics, modeling was performed using LDA. These topics were then categorized into aspects using GenAI, covering areas, such as customer experience, service, payment, app features, task management, and event management. Subsequently, sentiment labeling was conducted using human annotators to provide a reliable baseline. BERT model was then used to classify sentiment with aspect hints, and the evaluation included calculations of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. Results: The results showed that BERT model achieved the highest accuracy of 97% in sentiment analysis across all datasets. Conclusion: This research provided valuable understanding of user experience and established a strong ABSA framework for analyzing user reviews using LDA, Aspect Annotation, GenAI, and BERT sentiment models. Future research could expand this method to other app categories and incorporate real-time ABSA for continuous monitoring and dynamic feedback.
