Authentication and Key Management Based on Kerberos for M2M Mobile Open IPTV Security

Vehicular Networks represent one of the main topics in the communication systems area. Increased deployment of vehicular networks together with new possibilities for Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services has spurred the interest in providing mobile IPTV via vehicular networks. Provisioning of IPTV services over vehicular networks can be expected to play a significant role in the next generation of TV systems. Users will choose IPTV based on the Quality of Experience (QoE). Among QoE measures, TV channel availability is one of the most significant. In this paper, we investigate the channel availability in IPTV services with different traffic intensity and a varying number of TV channels offered to find out the acceptable availability of TV channels or the Call Blocking Probability (CBP) in our study. Comprehensive experiments are carried out by means of our own simulation tool, i.e., a Monte Carlo simulator to conduct the evaluations for numerous scenarios taking into account realistic IPTV user behavior.

As the speed of networks that subscribers can use has greatly increased, demand for high-quality broadcast content, such as from Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and Video on Demand (VoD), is likewise increasing. Therefore, while broadcasters are increasing content and channels, they are striving to improve consumer quality of experience (QoE) to differentiate themselves from competitors, including by producing higher physical-quality content. Recently, subjective measurement methods have been internationally standardized as the most reliable approach for measuring and evaluating IPTV QoE. However, a majority of these methods are performed in experimental environments and are based on the extremely brief viewing period of approximately ten seconds using original reference videos. It is actually difficult to apply standard evaluation methods based on a ten-second viewing interval to assess real broadcast watching of IPTV or other services that involve a longer time (i.e., more than thirty minutes). In this paper, we therefore propose a method that accommodates actual viewing environments. Using the mean opinion score, we experimentally analyze the effects of evaluation interval changes under actual conditions in which IPTV service is provided. In addition, we propose improvements by applying the results into actual live broadcast IPTV service and by analyzing consumer service QoE.

In this paper, we propose the effective playback scheme of targeted AD (ADvertisement) contents exploiting digital cueing signal over IPTV (Internet Protocol TeleVision) service. In the proposed scheme, the digital cueing signal multiplexed with the watching live IPTV program contents enables a STB (Set-Top Box) device to identify AD playback section accurately. For eliminating playback delay of pre-downloaded AD contents during AD playback section, a STB device then adjusts their MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group)-2 TS (Transport Stream) attributes of pre-downloaded AD contents. Test results demonstrate that the proposed scheme works greatly over commercial IPTV network.

Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is a service where digital TV signal data is delivered by using Internet protocol (IP). Telecom and network operators focus on IPTV service for its fastest growth, lower price for operators and market economy. With the improvement of broadband connection and technology, IPTV will get more and more importance. Main challenge for IPTV service is resiliency and Quality of Service (QoS) to meet the users Service Level Agreement (SLA). The design space for IPTV service in terms of resilient backbone design, routing algorithms and fast failure restoration shall be explored. It is described from DSL FORUM and leading IPTV service-providing companies. In the context of this work, the PIM-SSM was configured and QoS was implemented for tagged VLAN of multicast traffic. IPTV traffic is analysed in ACREO testbed and Norrksen network. Keywords: IPTV; QoS; Multicast; PIM; PIM-SM; PIM-SSM; VLAN.© 2009 JSR Publications. ISSN: 2070-0237 (Print); 2070-0245 (Online). Current advances in embedded hardware for mobile devices, jointly with new type of batteries that let smart phones have more power during longer periods of time, allow them to offer new services to customers. Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is the Internet Protocol (IP) service that is experiencing highest demand. Many mobile telephone companies are adding this service to their supply. In this chapter, the authors show all steps to transmit the IPTV service from the provider to the smart phone. First, they introduce the current hardware and operating systems for smart phones. Then, they describe the main parts of the IPTV architecture and the main protocols used for IPTV transmission in order to show how it works. Next, the authors show where intelligent systems can be deployed in the IPTV network in order to provide better QoE (Quality of Experience) on the end-user side. Then, they discuss the limitations and requirements for IPTV reception on smart phones. Finally, the authors explain the IPTV implementation in smart phones and describe an IPTV player on Android.

Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is a service to present digital TV over Internet. The IPTV network architecture consists of two main components: core network and access network. Many types of access networks can be used for IPTV including Ethernet PON (EPON). In this paper, a new mechanism is proposed for bandwidth allocation to various IPTV services over the EPON that decreases IPTV packet loss. This mechanism is implemented in optical line terminal (OLT) and weights are allotted to queues in the OLT to reduce packet loss. Then, weighted round robin (WRR) is used to scheduling IPTV packets.

One difficulty facing Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service providers is the issue of monitoring and managing their service delivery network. An in-depth monitoring regime is required, which performs measurements within different networking devices. When network conditions deteriorate to the point where they could disrupt IPTV services, Network Operators (NOs) can use the measurements as a basis to reconfigure the network with minimal delay. OpenFlow (OF) presents a potential solution to this problem as it provides vendor-neutral access to the packet forwarding interface of the different hardware device types. This work investigates how OF can leverage video packet inspection measurements taken from within the IPTV service delivery network and combine these with OF statistics to make decisions regarding routing in order to assure service quality.

Mobile Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) provides users with multimedia content through wireless access technologies whenever they want and wherever they are. However, vertical handover in heterogeneous networks results in long interruption time and large packet loss rate, which poses a challenge for seamless mobile IPTV service. The existing solutions that make use of the heterogeneous access networks to transmit multimedia content have two drawbacks: high bandwidth consumption of the wireless networks and lots of packets loss when a user resides in the overlapped area of the boundary. To solve these issues, we propose a new soft handover mechanism, based on the IPTV server and the consumer electronic devices. The proposed Parallel Soft Handover (PSH) divides the Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) packets according to the packet loss rates, and exploits different networks efficiently by using parallel transmission. Moreover, the selective retransmission for RTP packets is introduced to reduce the packet loss. Simulation results demonstrate that the PSH can reduce the packet loss rate, as well as obtain a more efficient use of the wireless bandwidth.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness on Korean consumers of pre-roll advertising via video on demand (VOD) in Internet Protocol television (IPTV) and mobile TV, and to compare the effects of pre-roll ads on VOD via IPTV and those in the mobile TV context. The results indicate that the intention to continue watching ads, viewers’ interest in the ads, and the usefulness of the ads were significant predictors that influenced viewers’ intentions to purchase the products being advertised on both pre-roll IPTV VOD and mobile TV. When comparing the effects on viewers of pre-roll ads shown on VOD via IPTV with those served in the mobile TV context, this study found that pre-roll ads shown on IPTV VOD were more credible and useful than ads viewed on mobile devices, and viewers had better recall of ads when they had watched them through IPTV. In addition, mobile viewers tended to find pre-roll ads on mobile devices more intrusive than those on IPTV VOD as a result of the extensive differences in viewing conditions between mobile devices and IPTV. This study suggests that contextual factors, viewing habits and conditions determined by the characteristics of a certain medium could be essential factors affecting advertising effectiveness.

This letter proposes a weighted scheduling mechanism for Internet protocol television (IPTV) to improve the loss performance of multicast transmission over an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON). We propose a new weight policy from the number of multicast receivers to proportionally allocate the downstream bandwidth of IPTV traffic. The proposed mechanism is used in an optical line terminal to decrease lost packets of favorite IPTV services because the lost multicast packets are proportional to the number of receivers. The total proportion of lost multicast packets is reduced by up to 73% in an EPON.

Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services rely on the existing IP network infrastructure to deliver high quality video. In order to achieve reliable services, the nature of the underlying transmission channel has to be taken into account. Erasures on access networks such as present in Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL) have to be overcome. Impulse noise, e.g. Repetitive Electrical Impulse Noise (REIN), is one of the dominant error sources in the signal band of DSL channels and can be characterized as fixed-length error bursts. One countermeasure in IPTV system design to increase the robustness against impulse noise impairments is the implementation of Forward Error Correction on the Application-Layer (AL-FEC). In this paper a mathematical model is derived which describes the effect of the REIN channel on the performance of AL-FEC schemes. The effects on the application layer are modeled by a Markov chain with a memory proportional to the error burst length. Extensive empirical simulation campaigns, in the context of AL-FEC protected IPTV services, are used to prove the correctness of the proposed model and additionally, the runtime behavior of the model is analyzed.

Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) through broadband cable network is a subscriber-based system which consists of software and set-top box. However, a weakness for the current IPTV system is the lack of security between users and CAS. This paper proposes a user authentication protocol at STB, which limits the service by the user-valued attribute to prevent illegal IPTV users. User attribute values change the order with bit form according to the certain rule, and apply to one-way hash function and Diffie-Hellman's elliptic curve key-exchange algorithm. The proposed protocol is able to improve on user authentication and computation. Also, each user generates an authentication message by smart card and receives various services based on the user-valued attribute.

The latest experiences hint that the QoS (Quality of Service) approaches adopted by IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) technologies are still suffering from a primary containment factor due to the nondifferentiation between IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) video components. IMS system also cannot ensure high IPTV data transfer due to the limitation of available cellular bandwidth. In this paper, we try to merge the advantage of high bandwidth assigned to LTE (Long Term Evolution) and a new PHB (Per-Hop Behavior) that classify and differentiate between IPTV sub traffics by using IPv6 Flow Label. This new architecture permits high-quality IPTV video components with the capability to prioritize the sub traffic according to the network administrator policy. The proposed architecture is implemented using OPNET software. The results show that IPTV users receive high-quality video data with a change in quantity according to data priority.

Wireless USB (WUSB) is the USB (Universal Serial Bus) technology merged with WiMedia PHY/MAC. WUSB can be applied to WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network) applications as well as PAN applications like wired USB. However the current WUSB protocol can't provide seamless multimedia streaming service to moving WUSB devices in home network environment. This problem causes the critical problems in QoS (Quality of Service) provisioning to multimedia streams, since multimedia application is required by mobile devices. Therefore, this paper proposes resource allocation scheme and channel management scheme to avoid the conflict and to support the seamless mobility between adjacent WUSB networks for wireless IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) service.
