Automated Attendance System and Voice Assistance using Face Recognition

Attendance marking in a classroom during a lecture is not only a onerous task but also a time consuming one at that. Due to an unusually high number of students present during the lecture there will always be a probability of proxy attendance(s).Attendance marking with conventional methods has been an area of challenge. The growing need of efficient and automatic techniques of marking attendance is a growing challenge in the area of face recognition. In recent years, the problem of automatic attendance marking has been widely addressed through the use of standard biometrics like fingerprint and Radio frequency Identification tags etc., However,these techniques lack the element of reliability. In this proposed project an automated attendance marking and management system is proposed by making use of face detection and recognition algorithms. Instead of using the conventional methods, this proposed system aims to develop an automated system that records the student’s attendance by using facial recognition technology. The main objective of this work is to make the attendance marking and management system efficient, time saving, simple and easy. Here faces will be recognized using face recognition algorithms. The processed image will then be compared against the existing stored record and then attendance is marked in the database accordingly. Compared to existing system traditional attendance marking system, this system reduces the workload of people. This proposed system will be implemented with 4 phases such as Image Capturing, Segmentation of group image and Face Detection, Face comparison and Recognition, Updating of Attendance in database.

Traditional attendance systems, such as manual sign-ins or RFID-based methods, are time- consuming, prone to errors, and susceptible to manipulation. This paper presents a Smart Attendance System that leverages facial recognition technology to automate attendance tracking. The system integrates advanced face detection and recognition algorithms, along with anti-spoofing mechanisms, to ensure secure and efficient attendance marking. The proposed system uses the OpenCV library for face detection, the FaceNet algorithm for facial recognition, and Fourier Spectrum Analysis for anti-spoofing. Built with Python and Tkinter, the system provides a user-friendly interface for real-time attendance logging and management. The results demonstrate high accuracy in face recognition, efficient processing, and robust security against spoofing attempts, making it a reliable solution for modern attendance management in educational and corporate environments.

Abstract— In this digital era, face recognition system plays a vital role in almost every sector. Face recognition is one of the mostly used biometrics. It can used for security, authentication, identification, and has got many more advantages. Despite of having low accuracy when compared to iris recognition and fingerprint recognition, it is being widely used due to its contactless and non-invasive process. Furthermore, face recognition system can also be used for attendance marking in schools, colleges, offices, etc. This system aims to build a class attendance system which uses the concept of face recognition as existing manual attendance system is time consuming and cumbersome to maintain. And there may be chances of proxy attendance. Thus, the need for this system increases. This system consists of four phases- database creation, face detection, face recognition, attendance updation. Database is created by the images of the students in class. Face detection and recognition is performed using Haar-Cascade classifier and Local Binary Pattern Histogram algorithm respectively. Faces are detected and recognized from live streaming video of the classroom. Keywords—Face Recognition; Face Detection; Haar-Cascade; Opencv :library are used in face recognition system.

In the traditional system, it is difficult to handle the attendance of a huge number of students in the classroom. Attendance of the students is very important for every university, college as well as school as it keeps the record of every individual. The conventional methodology of taking attendance by calling out the roll number or name of the student and then recording the attendance is a tedious task. Assume the duration of the lecture is 60 minutes or 1 hour and to record the attendance it would take 5 to 10 minutes. Also for every tutor, this is time-consuming. To overcome this problem, real-time face recognition is a real-world solution, which will help in marking the attendance of students in bulk. In this project, face detection and face recognition are used. Attendance marking through face recognition can be implemented in the classroom by capturing the image of students in the classroom via a surveillance camera. Later Haar Cascade algorithm is used for face detection, which helps in locating the position of the face region, and LBPH (Local binary pattern histogram) algorithm for face recognition. The images of all the students in the class are stored in the database and when the face of the individual student matches with one of the faces stored in the database then the attendance is recorded

Daily attendance marking is a common and important activity in schools and colleges for checking the performance of students. Manual Attendance maintaining is difficult to process, especially for a large group of students. Some automated systems developed to overcome these difficulties, have drawbacks like cost, fake attendance, accuracy, intrusiveness. To overcome these drawbacks, there is a need for a smart and automated attendance system. Traditional face recognition systems employ methods to identify a face from the given input but the results are not usually accurate and precise as desired. The system described in this we aim to deviate from such traditional systems and introduce a new approach to identify a student using a face recognition system, the generation of a facial Model. This describes the working of the face recognition system that will be deployed as an Automated Attendance System in a classroom environment. The proposed smart classroom system was tested for a classroom with 20 students at K L University Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada, India and we got the experimental results to demonstrate the train and test accuracy of 97.67% and 96.66%, respectively. In this paper we selecting of the face recognition and detection giving result using Python language in PYCHARM tool. This requires high end specifications of a system in order to get better results. It won’t run on all the small specification systems. So, this can run only a small database and compare them with the face required.

Taking attendance in a large class is cumbersome, repetitive, and it consumes valuable class time. To avoid these problems, we propose an automatic attendance system using deep learning framework. An automatic attendance system based on the image processing consists of two steps: face detection and face recognition. Face detection and recognition are well-explored problems in computer vision domain, though they are still not solved due to large pose variations, different illumination conditions, and occlusions. In this work, we used state-of-the-art face detection model to detect the faces and a novel recognition architecture to recognize faces. The proposed face verification network is shallower than the state-of-the-art networks and it has achieved similar face recognition performance. we achieved 98.67% on LFW and 100% on classroom data. The classroom data was made by us for practical implementation of the complete network during this work.

In this paper, it studies two critical technical links of face detection and face recognition in the recognition of face, and conducts analyses and comparisons on some commonly used face detections and recognition algorithms. Through the collation of this information and the combination of related knowledge in the digital image processing, it proposes a face recognition algorithm based on the singular value decomposition. After preprocessing face images, by the use of the projection method, it obtains positions of five sense organs, and then extracts local feature values near five sense organs as the main features of faces by using the singular value decomposition. Attending classes by students is associated with the assimilation of educational material by students and the ability to plan and organize activities. However, at present in educational institutions, as a rule, student attendance is recorded manually. Activities are performed frequently and repeatedly, thus wasting instructors' study time. Additionally, the face is one of the most widely used biometric characteristics for personal identification so an automated attendance system using face recognition has been proposed. In recent years, convolutional neural networks (CNN) have become the dominant deep le11arning method for face recognition. In this article, the features of building an automated student attendance system by biometric face recognition using the convolution neural network modelhas been discussed. Analyzed and solved the main tasks that arise when building an automated student attendance monitoring system: creating a dataset of students' face images; building and training a biometric face recognition model; face recognition from the camera and registration in the database; extension to the face image dataset. The use of the capabilities of the Python and OpenCV libraries is shown. The conducted testing of the accuracy of the developed CNN model of biometric face recognition showed good results – the overall accuracy score is not less than 0.75. The developed automated student attendance monitoring system in classrooms can be used to determine student attendance in different forms of the educational process. Its implementation will significantly reduce the monitoring time and reduce the number of errors in maintaining attendance logs. The introduction of an automated attendance monitoring system will significantly improve the organization of the educational process to ensure its quality.

Application of Face Recognition Method Under Deep Learning Algorithm in Embedded Systems

This project has merged GPS geolocation monitoring with facial recognition which emphasizes a system for involuntary attendance that improves attendance management in educational organizations. By including AI-driven facial recognition and geofencing algorithms, the technology ensures real-time authentication, preventing proxy attendance and human error. We have used a Siamese Neural Network-based facial recognition model of student identity, with geolocation validation as the secondary confirmation that a student physically attends class. Such two-layered authentication results in better accuracy, security, and efficiency.This system avoids direct involvement and lessens administrative work, offering real-time monitoring to professors and administrators. Secure data handling and extensive testing ensure reliable and user-friendly performance. This research highlights the potential of education technology in modernizing attendance systems, making academic operations more efficient and secure.

Face recognition is among the most productive image processing applications and has a pivotal role in the technical field. In the recent time automated face recognition has become a trend and has been developed very much, this is mainly due to two reasons first it is due to availability of modern technologies and second is due to the ability to save time using face recognition in the process of taking attendance of students. Its usage will grow vast in the future as it saves a lot of time. It consumes a lot of time to take attendance manually and few might also fake the attendance, in order to prevent time consumption and avoid faking the attendance. Face recognition is used to identify the person present in the class and mark their attendance , this is done with the help of image or video frame. We proposed an automatic attendance management system using techniques such as PCA algorithm. The face detection and recognition will automatically detect the students in the classroom and mark the attendance by recognizing the person. The traditional process of making attendance and present biometric systems are vulnerable to proxies. This paper is therefore proposed to tackle all these problems. The proposed system makes the use of Haar classifiers, KNN, CNN, SVM, Generative adversarial networks, and Gabor filters. After face recognition attendance reports will be generated and stored in excel format. The system is tested under various conditions like illumination, head movements, the variation of distance between the student and cameras. After vigorous testing overall complexity and accuracy are calculated. The Proposed system proved to be an efficient and robust device for taking attendance in a classroom without any time consumption and manual work. The system developed is cost-efficient and need less installation

After the breakout of the worldwide pandemic COVID-19, there arises a severe need of protection mechanisms, face mask being the primary one. According to the World Health Organization, the corona virusCOVID-19 pandemic is causing a global health epidemic, and the most successful safety measure is wearing a face mask in public places. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have developed themselves as a dominant class of image recognition models. The aim of this research is to examine and test machine learning capabilities for detecting and recognize face masks worn by people in any given video or picture or in real time. This project develops a real-time, GUI-based automatic Face detection and recognition system. It can be used as an entry management device by registering an organization’s employees or students with their faces, and then recognizing individuals when they approach or leave the premises by recording their photographs with faces.The proposed methodology makes uses of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and HAAR Cascade Algorithm. Based on the performance and accuracy of our model, the result of the binary classifier will be indicated showing a green rectangle superimposed around the section of the face indicating that the person at the camera is wearing a mask, or a red rectangle indicating that the person on camera is not wearing a mask along with face identification of the person. Face detection and face recognition are very important technologies these days, furthermore we noticed that they got have a variety of uses such as cellphones, army uses, and some high risk information offices. We decided to make a device that detects and recognize the face as a student attendance system and can be a substitute for the regular paper attendance system and finger print attendance system. The main function in our project is going to be done using LabVIEW because, LabVIEW is a very helpful programming tool in regards of facial uses and very helpful in other uses. Our project is based on a main program in LabVIEW that detects and recognize faces with giving scores and parameters, furthermore the subsystems are an Excel sheet that is integrated with the program, and a messaging device that is for either a message for absent students or to the student’s parent.

The first step in an automatic face recognition system is to localize the face region in a cluttered background and carefully segment the face from each frame of a video sequence. In this paper, we propose a fast and efficient algorithm for segmenting a face suitable for recognition from a video sequence. The cluttered background is first subtracted from each frame, in the foreground regions a coarse face region is found using skin colour. Then using a dynamic template matching approach the face is efficiently segmented. The proposed algorithm is invariant to large scale and pose variations. The segmented face is then handed over to a recognition algorithm based on principal component analysis and linear discriminant analysis. The on-line face detection, segmentation and recognition algorithm takes an average of 0.06 sec on a 3.2 GHz P4 machine.

In this study, attendance system was created by combines RFID attendance technology and face recognition. The attendance system is an important thing to facilitate attendance data retrieval. Attendance system often encountered in the technological era such as today is the RFID attendance system. Although the attendance system is already sophisticated, this system still has shortcomings such as the occurrence of entrusted cards. In this research, the writer has two inputs, namely ID on the RFID card and a face image. Face images will be process by two methods there are the Viola-Jones method that use to detecting the face objects in the image, and the Local Binary Pattern Histogram method as face recognition. Furthermore, if the face was recognized then the RFID card ID data and face recognition data will compare, the results of this process will be attended data in the database. Based on the results of test have been done by the author, the response system shows very good results. In the first test of the RFID sensor in 11 tests, the sensor was able to distinguish all cards that had been registered and cards that had not been registered. This test is carried out from distance of 1 cm to 4 cm. Furthermore, in the second test of facial recognition, in 100 trials of facial recognition testing with different facial poses, the system can recognize faces 93 times so system has 93% success rate. This success rate is influenced by several factors such as the test carried out at 364 lux illumination strength, the test distance at $\gt $ 20cm and $\lt $70cm, as well as the maximum testing angle 45°.

Face recognition has been a hot topic of research for a long time. Face recognition is a difficult problem to solve and that is what attracts researchers toward it. Automated attendance system is a practical application of face recognition technology. As we know, we can identify any person by just watching his face, so we are trying to develop automatic attendance system based on face recognition. In this paper, we have used high-definition camera, and video captured by camera is being used by our model to detect and recognize human faces. With this approach, we are able to recognize students in the class, and their attendance is being marked in a database.
