Automatic Synchronization of Common Parameters in Configuration Files

Introduction: This paper presents the preliminary results of a collaborative R&D project which aims at developing artificial intelligence (AI) supported anticipation of multisectoral use of services. If we were able to predict the escalation of health and social problems of clients and the use of several different services, we could plan and offer them early preventive services with the objective of improving the quality of life and reducing the costs of service provision in the longer term. Approach and methods: The multidisciplinary project in progress collaborates at four spheres of research and development within the elderly care of one welfare region in Finland. 1) Anticipatory management practices concerning risk client groups and anticipatory case management practices concerning individual clients in risk are being developed supported by predictive AI technology. The requirements concerning the information the AI based prediction model should produce to the managers and to the case managers have provisionally been defined. The current practices are co-studied, and the new practices supported by AI are co-designed by involving the “relevant” health and social care managers and practitioners in the welfare region. 2) A machine learning (ML) predictive model based on health and social care data is being developed. The prediction model will be developed based on retrospective analysis of health and social data of the welfare region. The available data includes clinical data recorded during healthcare encounters, decisions, and usage of social services as well as physical function assessments. The data is used to train and test potential machine learning algorithms for predicting future service use of the elderly individuals based on their current health status and past use of services. 3) The implementation of the AI/ML model within the IT infrastructure and information systems (IS) in use will be supported and investigated. The developed ML model would eventually be integrated into the IT/IS environment of the case organization. That entails connecting the specific data sources, running the model computations, and passing the results to the digital workflow of the care production management for knowledge management. 4) The EU and Finnish legislation that regulate the use of personal health and social data in the development and use of AI based predictive models is being analyzed. Requirements and potential limitations imposed by current legislation on the use of predictive models are identified. In particular, the strict conditions applicable to making automated risk assessments of individuals for purposes of taking anticipatory measures are analyzed and avenues for meeting them by health and social care organizations are discussed. Results and outputs: Working on these four spheres, the project produces a generic model on developing the anticipation practices of multisectoral use of services with the help of AI technology. The model will available to all the organizations which are developing AI based anticipation of multisectoral use of services. Abstract. This contribution describes the development of a plugin for the geographic information system QGIS to interface the openModeller software package. The aim is to use openModeller to generate species’ potential distribution models for various archaeological applications (site catchment analysis, for example). Since the usage of openModeller’s command-line interface and configuration files can be a bit inconvenient, an extension of the QGIS user interface to handle these tasks, in combination with the management of the geographic data, was required. The implementation was realized in Python using PyQGIS and PyQT. The plugin, in combination with QGIS, handles the tasks of managing geographical data, data conversion, generation of configuration files required by openModeller and compilation of a project folder. The plugin proved to be very helpful with the task of compiling project datasets and configuration files for multiple instances of species occurrence datasets and the overall handling of openModeller. In addition, the plugin is easily extensible to take potential new requirements into account in the future.

Based on JMX technology, this paper presents a new method of remote dynamic component configuration which improves the traditional method of using configuration files, and testifies its feasibility through certification programs. This method greatly improves information system flexibility through realizing dynamic configuration and safe remote component configuration and enhancing distributed management ability and security of information system greatly. Moreover, because it makes component configuration alteration take effect instantly at runtime, information system can be provided with uninterrupted running ability.

A method for the configuration of informatics systems that provide support to DICOM standards using XML files is proposed. The difference with other proposals is base on that this system does not code the information of a DICOM objects file, but codes the standard itself in an XML file. The development itself is the format for the XML files mentioned, in order that they can support what DICOM normalizes for multiple languages. In this way, the same configuration file (or files) can be use in different systems. Jointly the XML configuration file generated, we wrote also a set of CSS and XSL files. So the same file can be visualized in a standard browser, as a query system of DICOM standard, emerging use, that did not was a main objective but brings a great utility and versatility. We exposed also some uses examples of the configuration file mainly in relation with the load of DICOM information objects. Finally, at the conclusions we show the utility that the system has already provided when the edition of DICOM standard changes from 2006 to 2007.

The service sector is an important and consistently growing sector of the world economy. It is estimated that the sector will make up two thirds of the total world Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Information Technology (IT) has been an important contributor to the fast and high grow of the sector by increasingly digitising the production, delivery and use of services. IT has enabled multiple parties, including user support service staff, employees (internal IT users) and customers (external IT users) of an organisation, to engage in the production, delivery and use of digital services. Consequently, both users and user support service staff of the organisations have an increased responsibility to both prevent IT problems from occurring, and solve them when they do occur. Problems with ITs can occur at different stages of a digital service value chain (i.e. sequential steps/stages required to produce and deliver a digital service), and may lead to a service failure in the user’s mind. Examples include problems with a self-check-out machine at a library, problems with an online registration system that occurs for university students, or a website that does not include an online payment functionality a user expects. Numerous studies in both Information Systems (IS) and service literature have focused on the role of the service staff in both preventing and solving digital service failures, but few have considered the user’s role in these. This thesis includes four original articles. The first article emphasises that prevention from digital service failures must be considered before establishing effective approaches to solving the problems. The article presents a typology of technologies and technological approaches that customers and businesses can use to support prevention from these failures. The rest of the articles consider situations where an IT-related service problem has occurred, and address the user’s behaviour of persistence in solving their own IT problem. From the user’s perspective, their persistence in solving the problem contributes to achieving a satisfactory outcome, and from the organisational perspective, such an outcome is important for maintaining their user satisfaction. User persistence is important both when trying to solve an IT problem alone, and when using support services. Studying user persistence can help organisations to design their user support services in a way that encourages user persistence, resolves the problems more efficiently and cheaply; and maintains their user satisfaction. The study of user persistence included the use of focus groups for data collection purposes. Surprisingly, qualitative methodology literature has little to say on analytical approaches to focus group data – particularly interactive participant data. Therefore, a focus group analysis framework was designed (presented in the second article) and was used in the analysis phase of the user persistence study. The third article uses the framework in its analysis phase, and (a) presents a conceptual clarification of user persistence in IT problem solving, (b) identifies the factors that contribute to user persistence, (c) develops a theory to explain that why a user decides to persist with a method of solving IT problems, and (d) develops a theory to explain that why the user decides to persist with the overall process (collective methods) of solving the problem. The fourth article presents the results of evaluating the robustness of the two theories and shows that the two theories are confirmed. The thesis concludes with the ‘contributions and conclusion’ chapter where it presents a summary of the contributions of the four articles to IS theory, methodology and practice.

The paper considers the task of studying the features of the protection system of the operating system Astra linux 1.6 SE (Further OS Astra 1.6 SE). The basic principles of access control, functional features of protection modules, settings of some configuration files of the operating system, as well as types and features of classification marks are revealed. The result of this work is the proposal for the implementation of the possibility of configuring the basic access control mechanisms without using a graphical shell, the study of the principle of operation of these mechanisms, as well as the use of the features of kernel modules, configuration files for the design of a security system for computer facilities by information protection units. This operating system has a specific feature of the structure of the security system, since it includes mechanisms for mandatory access control, allowing access to be denied or allowed depending on the user's authority. The exchange and processing of information occurs with the use of classification labels, which make it possible to delimit information flows of different mandated contexts. These labels are written in accordance with GOST R 58256-2018 “Information security. Information flow control in the information system. Format of classification marks”. The paper analyzes traffic in different mandated sessions, and also considers the behavior of information flows regarding interaction in a network of computers with the installed OS Astra linux 1.6 SE and the security system configured on it. In this case, the exchange of data will occur both with users in the same sessions and in different ones that differ between computers.

With the advent of the fourth industrial revolution, industry practitioners are moving towards container-based infrastructure for managing their digital workloads. Kubernetes, a container orchestration tool, is reported to help industry practitioners in automated management of cloud infrastructure and rapid deployment of software services. Despite reported benefits, Kubernetes installations are susceptible to security defects, as it occurred for Tesla in 2018. Understanding how frequently security defects appear in Kubernetes installations can help cybersecurity researchers to investigate security-related vulnerabilities for Kubernetes and generate security best practices to avoid them. In this position paper, we first quantify how frequently security defects appear in Kubernetes manifests, i.e., configuration files that are use to install and manage Kubernetes. Next, we lay out a list of future research directions that researchers can pursue. We apply qualitative analysis on 5,193 commits collected from 38 open source repositories and observe that 0.79% of the 5,193 commits are security-related. Based on our findings, we posit that security-related defects are under-reported and advocate for rigorous research that can systematically identify undiscovered security defects that exist in Kubernetes manifests. We predict that the increasing use of Kubernetes with unresolved security defects can lead to large-scale security breaches.

Information System usability level depends on acceptance and system convenience to be run by users. One of the methods to measure usability level is by conducting usability testing. This article elaborates usability testing for Crop and Farmer Activity Information System. This system is one of the agriculture information systems that is developed to record system activities for each farm field. This system is considered as one of the important role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for agriculture. This system has been developing since 2017 and needs to be assessed and tested. To assess the system, usability testing was conducted by taking sampling from two regions in Central Java, Temanggung and Gombong. The respondents are system administrators, farmers, and general users with each of respondents has different criteria. There are 58 respondents participated in this research: 49 farmers, 3 system administrators, and 6 general users. Usability testing was carried out by giving respondents several test tasks based on the system. Each respondent had different kind of test task in accordance with the system functionality for each user. The result of the test found that system administrator user interface assessment value gained average percentage of 69%, while the farmers gained 76% and general users gained 79%. From the test, it also bring some recommendations for system refinement. Those recommendations were taken from user inputs and user test results. The recommendations have been made to bring better system environment.

Recent research has found that operators frequently misconfigure Internet services, causing various availability and performance problems. In this paper, we propose a software infrastructure that eliminates several types of misconfiguration by automating the generation of configuration files in Internet services, even as the services evolve. The infrastructure comprises a custom scripting language, configuration file templates, communicating runtime monitors, and heuristic algorithms to detect dependencies between configuration parameters and select ideal configurations. To demonstrate our infrastructure experimentally, we apply it to a realistic online auction service. Our results show that the infrastructure can simplify operation significantly while eliminating 58% of the misconfigurations found in a previous study of the same service. Furthermore, our results show that the infrastructure can efficiently determine the configuration parameters that lead to high performance as the service evolves through a hardware upgrade and the scheduled maintenance of a few nodes.

PurposeThis paper sought to validate a proposed e-service use model that takes into account system's environment and user factors as plausible determinants of an information system's (IS) use that are not accounted for by previous IS use models. The aim is to establish the applicability of the model for e-services and IS design, implementation and use.Design/methodology/approachThis study adopts a quantitative approach to data collection and analysis. Using a systematic multi-stage random sampling, data were collected from 400 university e-library users and analysed using regression analysis to test the hypothesised relationships.FindingsInternal system factors (particularly service quality), user satisfaction, e-service environment factors and user factors (gender, programme of study, level of study and computer/IT self-efficacy) predicted the use of e-services. These findings are partly similar to and partly different from those of the earlier studies, suggesting that more studies are needed to test the comprehensive model of e-services’ use.Research limitations/implicationsThis is a replicated study and as such made use of a similar population. These findings, therefore, cannot be generalised to other organisations with users of different demographic profiles.Practical implicationsFirst, the use of the services provided through an IS is predicted by factors other than user satisfaction, system, service and information qualities. Second, system administrators, designers, library administrators and managers must ensure that these factors are considered during the design, implementation and use of ISs.Social implicationsThe paper argues for the need to design e-services and ISs with consideration for user attributes that may lead to social exclusion if not considered. This is because the environment where an IS is hosted can be a driver of e-services use, especially if management provides the enabling environment in terms of optimal staffing, training, user support and periodic e-service evaluation.Originality/valueThis paper extends research effort in understanding the predictors of use of ISs beyond the traditional system's attributes (information, service and system qualities) to include system environment and user factors.

This paper presents an overview of the technologies and the methodologies used in Network Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (NIDPS). Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDPS) technologies are differentiated by types of events that IDPSs can recognize, by types of devices that IDPSs monitor and by activity. NIDPSs monitor and analyze the streams of network packets in order to detect security incidents. The main methodology used by NIDPSs is protocol analysis. The article reviewed the informational causes of diseases and the peculiarities of the influence of the mass media on human consciousness during epidemics. The aim of the research is to study the patterns of the impact of information on the human condition during epidemics and to develop safety measures when interacting with information. The impact of information on people during epidemics is increasing. The media are the main sources of information for the general consumer. Analysis of the media supplied shows that the media is destructive. The pressure on the end-user can be indirectly described by the number of messages per topic relative to the size of the news sample. Everyone has their own unique information system, In case of manipulative manipulation of the consumer, the information is prepared in order to penetrate the mind. Malicious information introduced into the mind is a Trojan virus, a Trojan program designed to change the programs that operate in the information system of the addressee. An unprotected mind is both a portal for the introduction of artificial information and a key tool for the realization of the manipulator’s goals and plans. Information viruses affect the workings of human psychic programs, which are used to deliberately reprogram human behavior through suggestion, zombie. The content of the human information system affects both health and quality of life. As the administrator of your own information system, a person needs to install network filters with rules for distinguishing between data and programs, restrict access to incoming data and access to their software. Based on the proposed approach, the following recommendations can be made to the consumer of the information: to assume the role of administrator of their information system, to be responsible for its state of affairs; filter incoming information for usability, verify data before use; respect the principle of constructive information. Information should be useful, help to solve problems, empower people and defuse tensions; avoid redundancy, information overload when the quality of filtration and security is reduced; carry out continuous background scanning and regular cleansing of its information system, identifying redundant, false information and destructive behaviour programmes; use a channel with an individual unique frequency for information exchange.

The health of migrants has attracted increasing attention in the international policy dialogue in recent years. Thailand is one of many countries where migrant health is a major political issue. This is because the country is situated at the centre of the Indochinese Peninsula and its economy is fast-growing relative to its neighbouring countries, particularly Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Myanmar. As a result, Thailand has, for decades, attracted a large number of low-skilled cross-border migrants. The majority of these immigrants have passed the border without any valid travel document. However, most of the time, past governments did not impose strict deportation measures on these undocumented/illegal immigrants since they were considered a key contributor to the Thai economy. Measures often used by recent governments included granting them leniency for temporary residence, issuing work permits for certain jobs, and insuring them through public-oriented health insurance, namely, the 'Health Insurance Card Scheme' (HICS). The primary aim of this thesis is to evaluate (i) the enrolment of cross-border migrants in a public health insurance scheme, namely, the HICS, in Thailand through the viewpoints of various stakeholders, and (ii) the effects of insurance on use of services. Ranong province was selected as the study site since it had the largest proportion of migrants compared to other provinces. The main objectives are: (1) to explore how the HICS evolved over time in light of changes in surrounding policies, (2) to investigate the responses of local officers and relevant stakeholders towards the HICS and to examine how the policy affects migrants' health-seeking behaviour in practice, (3) to evaluate the outcomes of HICS in terms of utilisation numbers and financial implications for its insurees, and (4) to provide policy recommendations. A multimethods approach was employed. In-depth interviews, document review and facilitybased data analysis were undertaken. Policy makers, local healthcare providers, and migrants were interviewed. Thematic and analyses were applied. 4 The findings revealed conflicting ministerial objectives and gaps in both inter- and intraministerial policies. In addition, policy objectives were not clear from the outset. While the health sector aimed to insure ‘all’ migrants, this was constrained by the security and economic authorities where the focus was mainly only on migrant workers who registered with the government. Besides, in reality, the boundary between ‘legal’ and ‘illegal’ migrants was very fluid. Though the current government attempted to address policy gaps by overhauling the HICS and instigating a new measure, namely, 'One Stop Service', it is difficult to claim that the deep-rooted implementation problems were resolved. This situation was even more complicated at the local level as some frontline health officers adapted the policy in various ways, and occasionally made the policy diverge from its initial objectives. For users, the cost of registration was a significant barrier in obtaining the insurance card, and a reliance on private intermediaries (both legal and illegal) to help them obtain the insurance card was not uncommon. Besides, there were migrants who were neither insured, nor able to return to their home country. However, the HICS still had some merits in reducing out-of-pocket payment, and helping increase utilisation of services amongst insurees. It was noteworthy that the most important factor determining the number of visits was history of experiencing catastrophic illness, not insurance status, and this influence was even more apparent in Thai patients than in migrants. Evidence suggested that there might be insured migrants with catastrophic illness who still experienced difficulties in accessing services, let alone uninsured migrants. Unless policies to protect the health of this population are put in place, poor access to health services for the uninsured will continue being a serious public health problem, not only to migrant communities but also to Thai society as a whole. Both macro- and micro policy recommendations are provided, for example, integrating the different authorities’ information systems on migrants, amending some outdated laws and regulations, and strengthening the capacity of the insurance governing body.
