Block chain based public voting system

The purpose of this paper is to present our proposal to use blockchain technology to create a secure, efficient, and smart voting system in the USA. The first section of this paper presents the current equipment and technology used in the current voting process in the USA. Next, an analysis of the technological challenges of our voting system is presented. Recommendations are proposed to remedy these challenges with the implementation of blockchain and biometric technologies. Next, the paper discusses the features, benefits, and uses of blockchain technology. Finally, arguments are presented both for and against the use of blockchain and biometric technologies for voting purposes.

Blockchain technology provides a stable spot in electronic voting systems by providing a transparent platform for an election which prevents the failures faced by the traditional electronic voting systems and makes it a more accurate and secure platform for voting. However, little attention has been paid to the possible impacts of new technological disruptions on politics and the electoral systems. The main goal of this paper is to design a framework for electronic voting systems using Blockchain technology. To achieve this goal, the paper outlines these three objectives: (1) to explore and identify the challenges in existing voting systems, (2) to identify the methods that could enhance the security and privacy of the electoral voting systems using Blockchain technology, and (3) to design a framework for electronic voting systems that use Blockchain technology in order to address the flaws in current voting systems. A mixed approach is applied in this study to explore the opportunities and challenges of the Blockchain voting system, and design the framework accordingly.

Secret voting in democratic countries using computational intelligence and Blockchain Technology, the vote is a fundamental right in democracy to elect people’s representatives at various levels. Manual voting is tedious and error prone. E-voting systems replaced the manual voting systems to overcome illegal voting and malpractices. Due to growing cybercrimes, the existing e-voting systems are not ideal and face many challenges like authentication, privacy, data integrity, etc. This paper presents computational intelligence and Blockchain technology in developing secret e-voting systems. This paper addresses various issues not addressed by traditional and e-voting systems and proposes new voting using computational intelligence techniques and blockchain technology.

In today’s digital environment, the voting system has moved from paper based to a digital system. A digital e-voting system has many properties such as transparency, decentralization, irreversibility, and non-repudiation. The growth in the digital e-voting system raises many security and transparency issues. In this paper, we used the blockchain technology in the digital electronic voting system to solve the security issues and ful?ll the system requirements. It offers new opportunities to deploy a secure e-voting system in any organization or country. The solution is far better as compared to other solutions because it is a decentralized system, containing the results in the form of bit-coins, having different locations. We will also analyze the security of our proposed voting system, which shows our protocol is more secure as compared to other solutions. The paper proposes a novel electronic voting system based on block chain that addresses some of the limitations in existing systems and evaluates some of the popular blockchain frameworks for the purpose of constructing a blockchain based e-voting system. In particular, we evaluate the potential of distributed ledger technologies through the description of a case study namely, the process of an election, and the implementation of a blockchain based application, which improves the security and decreases the cost of hosting a nation wide election.

Increasing digital technology has revolutionized the life of people. Unlike the electoral system, there are many conventional uses of paper in its implementation. The aspect of security and transparency is a threat from still widespread election with the conventional system (offline). General elections still use a centralized system, where in one organization manages it. Some of the problems that can occur in traditional electoral systems is with the organization that has full control over the database and system. It is possible to tamper with the database of considerable opportunities. Block chain technology is one of solutions, because it embraces a decentralized system and the entire database are owned by many users. Block chain itself has been used in the Bitcoin system known as the decentralized Bank system. By adopting block chain in the distribution of databases on evoting systems one can reduce the cheating sources of database manipulation. This project aims to implement voting result using block chain algorithm from every place of election. Unlike Bitcoin with its Proof of Work, this will be a method based on a predetermined turn on the system for each node in the built of block chain.

The current electoral system faces various challenges such as vote rigging, hacking of electronic voting machines, and election manipulation, leading to a lack of faith in the system among citizens. The adoption of an electronic voting system based on block chain technology could potentially address these issues. This paper proposes a model of e-voting based on popular block chain frameworks that provide block chain as a service, which maintains participant confidentiality while still being open to public scrutiny. The paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the theme, demonstrating the usefulness of block chain technology in the design of a secure and transparent e-voting system. Distributed ledger technology is a powerful tool in the world of information technology, with the potential to revolutionize various applications. Block chain offers advantages such as cryptological underpinnings and transparency, making it a disruptive technology in modern times. The proposed e-voting system based on block chain technology offers the potential to improve the resilience of e-voting systems, and ensure the integrity of the election results. Overall, this paper provides insights into the potential of block chain technology to tackle the challenges facing the current electoral system and improve the transparency and security of e-voting systems. Enhancing electronic voting systems to ensure election security and integrity while maintaining cost-efficiency has been a focus of research for decades. Consequently, numerous technological advancements have been integrated into modern voting systems. However, the adoption of technology has introduced new challenges. These include the risk of inaccurate election results due to technical malfunctions, vulnerabilities to election security breaches, and the potential for tampering with results. Additionally, concerns persist about the ability to perform reliable post-election audits to verify and instill confidence in election outcomes. This research explores the application of blockchain technology and zero-knowledge protocols to enhance the security, integrity, and transparency of electronic voting systems. A novel voting algorithm is proposed, designed to complement existing systems by providing verifiable evidence of election accuracy. A prototype implementation is developed, demonstrating the system’s security and audit capabilities. The Rhode Island voting system serves as a case study for this investigation. The proposed algorithm is compatible with current election technologies and addresses key issues associated with current voting systems.

The model uses Blockchain technology to create a secure and trustworthy voting environment, addressing key vulnerabilities in digital electoral systems.MethodsThe research utilized a quantitative approach, employing an experimental design methodology using open-source software to simulate voting systems. Synthetic population data is used to operate these systems, while advanced biometric authentication technologies verify voter identities. Blockchain technology is leveraged to ensure secure vote recording, with smart contracts used to authenticate voters and securely record votes. Additionally, synchronous transactions are executed for both voter registration and voting processes, enhancing the overall security and efficiency of the system.ResultsThe experimental results show that Blockchain enhances electoral integrity and security in Oman’s voting system, improving elections’ transparency and reliability. The performance evaluation of the model focuses on efficiency, reliability, and scalability metrics. Asynchronous transactions are utilized to improve processing time for voter registration and voting. Election administrators can manage, monitor, and certify election results, while Ethereum nodes ensure decentralized verification and transparency in the voting process.ConclusionThis research offers insights for policymakers to consider Blockchain for electoral reforms, addressing issues like data integrity, fraud prevention, and transparency to boost voter trust. A strong regulatory framework and public awareness are crucial for successful implementation. Pilot projects are needed to assess Blockchain’s practical impact. Oman could lead global innovation in electoral technology, though infrastructure and public resistance challenges must be managed.

Blockchain is a decentralized, distributed ledger that records transactions between two parties. A blockchain-based software system is a new and innovative approach to software engineering that uses blockchain technology. This approach has several advantages over traditional software engineering approaches, including improved security and transparency. The most common software engineering approaches are waterfall, agile and hybrid models. Each of these has its strengths and weakness. A blockchain-based system has the advantage of being more secure and transparent than any of these approaches. It also can track changes more accurately, which can improve quality control. Blockchain technologies have incredible potential but also have some problems. One problem is security and privacy issues, which brings into question the resilience of existing security and trust mechanisms. The distributed application (dApp) framework for the proposed electronic voting system is built with the help of blockchain technology in this proposal. As a result, fewer crimes has committed against sensitive data during the electoral process because of immutability, transparency and privacy. Ganache, Metamask and hashing algorithms are used to develop the dApp. The paper's strengths lie in its ability to create and analyze threat models for blockchain-enabled-electronic voting systems and to identify the types of threats using Microsoft STRIDE.

Comparative Study of Blockchain Techniques in Electronic Voting System

Abstract: The paper aims to propose a new system for conducting secure digital voting using blockchain technology. The existing voting systems face several challenges such as a lack of transparency, security vulnerabilities, and limited accessibility. To overcome these challenges, this research paper proposes the use of blockchain technology to provide a decentralized, transparent, and secure voting system. The paper outlines the technical design and architecture of the proposed system, highlighting the key features and benefits. The system is designed to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of the voting process, while also providing accessibility and ease of use for voters

A shift of paradigm is running over online social platforms: the over-centralization of these platforms is leaving room for decentralized solutions based on blockchain technologies, such as blockchain-based online social networks—BOSNs. Among the many unknown aspects of these techno-social systems, the objective of this study is to propose an analytical framework to assess the impact of the cryptocurrencies linked to a BOSN platform on the evolution of its social network and on the behavior of their users, in terms of production of content and/or its promotion through a voting and rewarding system. The framework has been applied to Steemit, one of the most widespread BOSNs, from which we collected three-year-long high-resolution data on its evolution along with the price of its main cryptocurrencies. On users’ activities extracted from these longitudinal data, we applied a time-series correlation analysis and a correlation analysis between the action allocation strategies and the obtained rewards, in the case of most central accounts. The analysis has highlighted pieces of evidence of the influence of the cryptocurrency price on users’ actions, particularly on actions that shape the structure of the social networks. Second, we also found highly rewarded users prefer actions related to the promotion of content rather than the creation of high-quality content, exploiting the reward distribution mechanisms implemented by the platform. These findings highlight that the shift of paradigm towards blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies might strengthen the influence of financial and economic factors rather than relational/social aspects on the evolution of these new complex techno-social systems.

Blockchain technology is one of the fourth industrial revolution technologies that ensure traceability and transparency in recording electronic transactions. Though this technology has been applied in different domains such as finance, logistics and many more, its use in electoral system is yet to be fully realized. An electoral system hinges on fairness and transparency of voting processes. The traditional voting method involves the use of paper and ink system, manual vote counting and irregularities such as multiple voting, over-voting and delay in declaring election results. This results in a lack of trust and transparency in the voting processes. COVID-19 outbreak increased the pace of digitization in most fields, economic sectors and institutions. In this paper, we review the use of blockchain technology because it is a foundational technology that can ensure fairness in voting during general elections across the globe. We look at the case of Ghana’s electoral irregularities during the 2020 general elections. Ghana was chosen because it served as benchmark for most developing nations. Recent data were collected from an online data repository using keywords including blockchain technology, COVID-19 pandemic and conventional voting methods. The findings of the review suggest that during the year 2020 which witnessed the COVID-19 pandemic, no country in Africa adopted or implemented the blockchain technology in voting despite its ability to facilitate remote voting and curb the spread of the Coronavirus. This could be attributed to the fact that the COVID-19 outbreak took most nations by surprise and countries which have scheduled elections in 2020 did not budget for its use. The paper also provides shortcomings of the conventional voting methods and the capabilities of blockchain technology to address those shortcomings. This paper presents an application for a voting system that uses blockchain technology. As is known, blockchain technology has a wide range of applications. What makes it suitable for a voting system is that it can prevent fraud. Another advantage of using blockchain technology for a voting system is that it offers unlimited system availability: the system’s operation is not affected by certain factors, such as power outages, updates or network connection.
