Civic Education Learning Management and Its Impact on Students’ Character Building Based on Local Values

This study aims to identify and analyze how local wisdom values and organizational culture impact employee productivity at PT. Efarina Group. The research seeks to provide practical insights for companies on enhancing productivity through the adoption of local values and the development of a positive organizational culture. The study employs a quantitative approach to analyze the influence of local wisdom values and organizational culture on employee productivity. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 300 respondents. Statistical analyses, including t-tests, ANOVA, and linear regression, were conducted to test the hypotheses. The regression analysis results indicated that local wisdom values and organizational culture significantly impact employee productivity. The R-value of 0.760 shows a strong relationship between the independent variables (local wisdom values and organizational culture) and the dependent variable (employee productivity), with an R Square value of 0.577 indicating that 57.7% of the variation in employee productivity can be explained by these two factors. The study concludes that local wisdom values and organizational culture significantly enhance employee productivity at PT. Efarina Group. These findings suggest that integrating local values into the organizational culture creates a supportive and productive work environment. Companies should focus on effective implementation strategies to maximize employee potential and overall organizational performance. This research provides valuable insights for companies aiming to develop and strengthen their organizational culture by incorporating positive local values, ultimately achieving long-term sustainability and success.

PurposeThis study aims to investigate the role of Buginese cultural value system (BCVS), motivational values type (MVT) and entrepreneurial traits (ET) on business performance (BP). The study investigated the role of each variable in predicting BP among Buginese entrepreneurs.Design/methodology/approachThe study was conducted in South Sulawesi, in small and medium scale enterprises with a focus on Buginese entrepreneurs. Random sampling technique was used along with some inclusion criteria. Based on those criteria, the questionnaires were administered to 300 participants with 70 per cent valid responses (180 males, 30 females). The study used well-constructed measures (i.e. BCVS, MVT, ET and BP) by following a guideline of adapting and developing instruments. The data were analyzed using structural equation model technique to examine the proposed theoretical model.FindingsThe results showed that the hypothesized model fitted the empirical data. The MVT and ET-mediated the effect of BCVS on BP or BCVS indirectly influenced BP. In brief, this research successfully showed that local cultural value system (BCVS) had a significant effect on the performance of Buginese entrepreneurs through the mediating role of MTV and ET, which means that local cultural value functions as a predictor of the performance of Buginese entrepreneurs.Originality/valueA number of previous studies have investigated the significant role of local culture in predicting business and entrepreneurship performance. This study focused on local values and considering some advanced theories in both entrepreneurship and psychology. As a result, this study provided a new perspective in understanding local culture as an antecedent to entrepreneurship performance.

Based on the previous description, the research problems emerged: (1) How does the implementation of ASSURE learning model to Increase the Students’ Motivation and Learning Outcome in learning civic education (PKn) for the students of class IV-B SDN Jenggawah 01 in odd semester in the academic year 2012/2013?; and (2) Is the implementation of ASSURE learning model able to increase the Students’ Motivation and Learning Outcome in learning civic education (PKn) for the students of class IV-B SDN Jenggawah 01 in odd semester in the academic year 2012/2013?. This study aims to (1) Describe the implementation of ASSURE learning model to Increase the Students’ Motivation and Learning Outcome in learning civic education (PKn) for the students of class IV-B SDN Jenggawah 01 in odd semester in the academic year 2012/2013; and (2) find out the implementation of ASSURE learning model can increase the Students’ Motivation and Learning Outcome in learning civic education (PKn) for the students of class IV-B SDN Jenggawah 01 in odd semester in the academic year 2012/2013. This researcher conducted a classroom action research (CAR). The subject of this study is the fourth grader students of SDN Jenggawah 01. Observation, interview, test, and questioner are the methods in collecting the data. Descriptive qualitative is employed to analyze the data. The research findings show that it is through the implementation of ASSURE learning model the students’ motivation and learning outcomes in civic education (PKn) for the fourth grader (IV-B) of SDN Jenggawah 01 in odd semester in the academic year 2012/2013 has significantly increased.Keywords:ASSURE learning model, motivation, learning outcome.

Environmental damage that occurs in various countries today requires a new approach to environmental management, where conventional methods that rely on technology and modern laws have not been able to overcome the complexity of contemporary environmental problems. Indonesia as a country with cultural diversity has a wealth of traditional knowledge that has proven effective in preserving nature for centuries. This research aims to analyze how to integrate local wisdom into the national environmental management system through the perspective of environmental ethics and find a model for harmonizing national law with local values ​​without eliminating legal certainty. The research method uses a normative juridical approach with statutory, conceptual, and philosophical analysis through literature study of primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials with descriptive qualitative analysis and deductive reasoning. The results show that Indonesian local wisdom has advantages in applying the principles of sustainable environmental ethics through an ecocentric approach that recognizes the intrinsic value of nature, in contrast to modern approaches that tend to be anthropocentric. Harmonization between national law and customary law systems requires a legal pluralism approach that recognizes the coexistence of both systems to create synergies in environmental management. The implementation model of local wisdom integration must be adapted to the specific characteristics of each region through a bottom-up participatory methodology that places local communities as active subjects in the planning, implementation and evaluation of environmental policies to realize sustainable environmental management based on local cultural values.

<p style="text-align: justify;">Character education is urgent in passing down the ethical and moral values in the cultured community life. The local cultural values are a source of ethics and moral education for elementary school students. The school keeps taking an essential role in cultivating the local values through online character education during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to analyze the effect of implementing online integrated character education and parental engagement in local cultural values cultivation outcome. The method of this study used an exploratory sequential mixed method design. Collect qualitative data using interview forms, observation, documentation, and quantitative data using questionnaires and portfolios. Qualitative data interpretation used content analysis, and inferential analysis used multiple linear regression. Results revealed that parental engagement, teachers’ performance, and online learning obstacles affect local cultural values cultivation outcome in character education partially and simultaneously for sixth-grade students in Padang City. We suggested teachers improve character education management based on local cultural values by building good synergy and collaboration between them and parents to cultivate noble character behavior among students.</p>

This study assessed the challenges encountered in teaching and learning of Civic Education in Zambian Secondary Schools in Solwezi district of North-western province, Zambia.Four research objectives were addressed namely: (1) To assess the various teaching and learning methodologies used in teaching civic education.( 2) To analyze the challenges encountered by teachers of civic education in using different teaching and learning methodologies.The study used both qualitative and quantitative approaches to collect, analyze and report the research findings.The study was conducted in Solwezi district.Data was obtained through interviews, questionnaires and focused group discussions, from the selected secondary schools.The sample involved a total of 180 respondents which included four (4) Head teachers, four (4) deputy head teachers, four (4) heads departments for social sciences, twelve (12) Civic Education teachers and one hundred fifty-sixty (156) pupils.The respondents were obtained through purposive and simple random sampling.Data were collected using the questionnaire, interview and focus group discussions.Data collected were analyzed by using Special Package for Social Science (SPSS) and presented in frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations while qualitative data were subjected to content analysis.Results from the study revealed that teachers of Civic Education encountered methodological challenges in teaching and learning of the subject in the classroom.Findings also revealed absent of study tour for civics subject in the secondary schools.Furthermore, the findings indicated lack of utilization of various teaching/learning materials in Civic Education was among the challenges as well.Therefore, the study recommended that School head teachers should provide all necessary assistance to the civic education teachers in order to cultivate positive outlook in teaching the subject.Also, there is need to make use of various teaching and learning methods by civic education teachers in their lessons.

The architecture of cultural heritage buildings not only represents historical and aesthetic values but also exhibits a regularity in form that can be studied through mathematical approaches. This research aims to examine the application of the concept of geometric transformation in the architectural patterns and proportions of the cultural heritage of the Cirebon Kejaksan Office Station and to uncover its relationship with local cultural values through an ethnomathematical perspective. The research uses a qualitative descriptive approach, with visual observation and photographic documentation of the building's front appearance components, including doors, windows, vents, arches, and ornaments. The analysis is focused on identifying geometric transformations in the form of reflection, shift, and magnification based on patterns of repetition, symmetry, and scale variation of architectural components. The results of the research show that the front view of the Kejaksan's Station reflects strong bilateral symmetry, shifts through the consistent repetition of door and window modules, and enlarges through variations in component dimensions that maintain the harmony of shape. In addition, the geometric patterns observed are consistent with the principles of repetition and balance in Cirebon culture, thereby reflecting the acculturation of colonial architecture with local values. These findings confirm that the Kejaksan Station has the potential to serve as a source of contextual learning in transformation geometry.

Interior design in restaurants not only serves as a setting for food presentation but also functions as a medium for representing cultural identity. In the context of ethnic restaurants, the spatial atmosphere created through interior elements plays a crucial role in shaping an authentic dining experience. This study aims to analyze the application of East Javanese cultural elements in the interior design of Hallo Surabaya Kertajaya Restaurant as an effort to preserve Surabaya’s local culture. The background of this research arises from the growing tendency of urban communities to appreciate local values, both in culinary practices and spatial ambiance. A qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method was employed in this study. Data were collected through field observations, interviews with restaurant owners and users, and literature studies related to interior design and East Javanese culture. The design process was analyzed using the design thinking framework as a tool for analysis and design development. The results indicate that the integration of Arek Surabaya cultural elements—such as distinctive batik motifs, the use of local materials (wood, bamboo, and rattan), symbolic ornaments, and warm, adaptive spatial characteristics—strengthens the restaurant’s identity and enhances the overall quality of the spatial experience. These findings confirm that interior design based on local cultural values not only contributes to cultural preservation but also improves spatial atmosphere and user comfort.

This study aims to understand the dynamics of the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in human resource management (HR) practices in organizations operating in the Manggarai region, which has a strong local cultural background. In this context, cultural values such as kinship, mutual cooperation, and verbal communication still dominate work patterns. A qualitative approach was used with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document studies, then analyzed thematically. The results of the study reveal four themes as conclusions: (1) the ambiguity of the role of technology in traditional work environments; (2) the humanization of technology as a bridge between local values and modernity; (3) the transformation of work culture from verbal communication to digital systems; and (4) the tension between technological efficiency and socio-psychological well-being. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating technological sophistication with local cultural values so that digital transformation does not create dehumanization but instead strengthens social relations and the meaning of work. Civic Education is a subject whose main purpose is to form good citizens. One way to form good citizens, of course, is by knowing and implementing their rights and obligations as citizens. Through the learning process and the content of Civic Education material on the rights and obligations of citizens, it is expected to be able to achieve these goals. One of the distinctive features of Civic Education subject is the content of the material which is required for concepts and theories. The problem is that many educators who still use conventional learning in Civic Education learning are included in choosing their learning media. As a result, Civic Education learning feels boring and its main purpose is difficult to achieve. One of the media that can help attract students’ interest in the Civic Education learning process is interactive media using courselab applications. In addition to the selection of instructional media, the content of Civic Education material must also be easily understood, one of which is by connecting the concept/material with the appropriate environment with students. The development of the material can be done contextually. So the use of interactive learning media courselab supported with a charge-based Civic Education contextual material can be assisting in building awareness of the rights and obligations of citizens.

This study aims to formulate loss accounting practices by takjil sellers based on local cultural values. This research uses a qualitative method. This study uses an Islamic ethnomethodological approach with five data analysis stages: charity, knowledge, faith, revelation, and courtesy. The results of the study found two ways for takjil sellers to avoid losses: distributing the remaining takjil merchandise for free to neighbors and family and giving bonuses. This loss accounting practice is conditional on the value of sharing, among others. Within the Islamic culture of Gorontalo, elders commonly impart this principle using the expression "lumadu diila o'onto, bo wolu-woluwo," which signifies the presence of something unseen yet still existing. The meaning is that this expression teaches that in life, don't just chase what is visible but also look for something that is invisible but exists. The value of sharing among others is living with the spirit of seeking sustenance that God blesses. This research contributes to the existence of local wisdom value-based loss accounting practices. The conclusion from the findings of this research is that takjil sellers practice loss accounting, which is not limited to material (money) but is conditional on non-material values in the form of local wisdom and religiosity.

This research aims to analyze the Guardian Care Service Program as a strategy for handling student bullying by implementing an ethnoparenting approach in Islamic boarding schools. Qualitative research methods were used to gain an in-depth understanding of how foster carers involve cultural values in handling bullying cases and guiding students according to the local context. Research findings show that the Foster Care Service Program is an approach that responds to cultural dynamics in Islamic boarding schools, where foster carers play a central role in creating a safe and supportive environment. This program integrates local cultural and ethical values in developing santri, creates contextual anti-bullying policies, and increases community involvement. The results of this research provide valuable insight regarding the effectiveness of the ethnoparenting approach in overcoming bullying and supporting students' positive growth in the Islamic boarding school environment. The implications of these findings can help develop similar programs in traditional Islamic educational institutions and contribute to further understanding regarding the role of foster carers and ethnoparenting approaches in creating an educational environment that is inclusive, safe, and based on local cultural values.

This study aims to explore how local cultural values in Bali influence consumer choices in the global handicraft market. As globalization allows regional products to reach international audiences, Bali's handicrafts, known for their high cultural and aesthetic value, serve as a prime example. Using a qualitative approach, this research analyzed relevant articles and documentary sources to understand how Balinese cultural values—such as spirituality and tradition—affect international consumers' purchasing decisions. The findings reveal that global buyers highly appreciate the originality and uniqueness of Balinese handicrafts, which are deeply rooted in cultural narratives that enrich the buying experience. Moreover, increasing awareness of environmental sustainability and the strategic use of social media for digital marketing have significantly boosted interest and sales. The study underscores the importance of integrating cultural values into marketing strategies and leveraging advanced digital technologies to overcome global market challenges and expand market reach. This research contributes to the understanding of how cultural heritage can be a powerful tool in global marketing and offers practical insights for artisans and marketers aiming to enhance their competitive edge.

This study aims to analyze the role of leadership in transforming local cultural values through community-based Islamic education in an indigenous community in Indonesia. The research method is a qualitative approach using ethnographic techniques, including participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the study indicate that customary and religious leadership play a key role in maintaining local cultural values , such as cooperation and deliberation, in line with Islamic teachings. This leadership not only functions as a director in social life but also as a facilitator in the process of internalizing cultural values in society, ensuring that traditions remain alive without sacrificing religious principles. In addition, customary and religious leaders work together to guide the community so that these values are relevant to the modern social and religious context. The implications of this study indicate the importance of community-based Islamic education as an effective means to maintain and transform local culture, as well as the need to strengthen the leadership capacity within indigenous communities to manage cultural change. These findings contribute to the development of community-based Islamic education theory and the relevance of local cultural values in the era of globalization.

A deep interplay exists among cultural ecosystem services (CES), local culture, and sustainable environmental management, forming a critical foundation for sustainability. Understanding the linkage between CES and local culture can assist policymakers in designing holistic conservation strategies and sustainably managing natural resources effectively. To capture its multidimensional nature, local culture is assessed through local cultural values (LCV) and the emotional (PI) and functional (PD) aspects of human–place bonds (PA). A questionnaire survey incorporating the contingent valuation method was conducted in Jinan City, eastern China. The results show that: (1) CES influence LCV only through PA; (2) the internal interaction process among cultural elements follows PD ⇒ PI ⇒ LCV; and (3) the overall pathway is CES ⇒ PD (β = 0.252) ⇒ PI (β = 0.708) ⇒ LCV (β = 0.573). This study, for the first time, revealed this comprehensive pathway linking CES and local culture, highlighting the mediating role of PD in this connection. These findings suggest that policymakers and urban planners should emphasize the functional dimension (PD) of human–place bonds to enhance environmental resource management, support sustainable use, and increase public acceptance of local policies by strengthening CES.
