Abstract

Common depth point (CDP) recording, sometimes called common mid point (CMP), is a basic method in present day seismic exploration, whether that is the normal linear 2-D type or 3-D recording. However, to understand the concept fully, it is necessary to look back on the history of seismic exploration with respect, in the main, to the geometry of the recording spread and its effect on the processing and the interpretation of the recorded data. Some references to this topic have already been made, earlier in this book.
