Commutative Group Algebras of Summable p-Groups

We prove certain results pertaining to some isomorphism properties of commutative modular group algebras and briefly review a paper by pointing out some obvious mistakes and essential incorrectness.

Methods and results from the representation theory of finite di- mensional algebras have led to many interactions with other areas of mathe- matics. Such areas include the theory of Lie algebras and quantum groups, commutative algebra, algebraic geometry and topology, and in particular the new theory of cluster algebras. The aim of this workshop was to further de- velop such interactions and to stimulate progress in the representation theory of algebras.

The subject of algebraic groups has had a rapid development in recent years. Leaving aside the late research by many people on the Albanese and Picard variety, it has received much substance and impetus from the work of Severi on commutative algebraic groups over the complex number field, that of Kolchin, Chevalley, and Borel on algebraic groups of matrices, and especially Weil's research on abelian varieties and algebraic transformation spaces. The main purpose of the present paper is to give a more or less systematic account of a large part of what is now known about general algebraic groups, which may be abelian varieties, algebraic groups of matrices, or actually of neither of these types.

Let G be an abelian group and let R be a commutative ring with identity. Denote by R t G a commutative twisted group algebra (a commutative twisted group ring) of G over R, by ℬ(R) and ℬ(R t G) the nil radicals of R and R t G, respectively, by G p the p-component of G and by G 0 the torsion subgroup of G. We prove that: i. If R is a ring of prime characteristic p, the multiplicative group R* of R is p-divisible and ℬ(R) = 0, then there exists a twisted group algebra R t 1 (G/G p ) such that R t G/ℬ(R t G) ≅ R t 1 (G/G p ) as R-algebras; ii. If R is a ring of prime characterisitic p and R* is p-divisible, then ℬ(R t G) = 0 if and only if ℬ(R) = 0 and G p = 1; and iii. If B(R) = 0, the orders of the elements of G 0 are not zero divisors in R, H is any group and the commutative twisted group algebra R t G is isomorphic as R-algebra to some twisted group algebra R t 1 H, then R t G 0 ≅ R t 1 H 0 as R-algebras.

A deformation-theoretic version of Maschke's theorem for modular group algebras: The commutative case

This study focused on students’ inability to correctly use psychometric tests applied for complex numbers in the context of generating an Algebraic abelian group (closure, commutative, associatively, inverse, and identity). This was done using a psychometric test (Kuder and Richardson formula) and APOS Theory after they had been taught the relevant content. The 41 participants were second-year students in the Department of Statistics at the Federal Polytechnic Ile-Oluji. They were given a class test comprising eleven (11) objective questions, and 4 questions relating to group theory were extracted for this analysis. After that, six (6) students were interviewed to gain insight into their perspectives. It was observed that most of the students had difficulty understanding the concept of algebraic groups about complex numbers, founded on not seeing the relevance in the prerequisite knowledge of an algebraic group. Also, if the reliability test of the question is unacceptable, then a good percentage of the participant lacked the mental construction relating to APOS to answer such a question.

Applications to cryptography of twisting commutative algebraic groups

The notion of Reiter's Segal algebra in commutative group algebras is generalized to a notion of Segal algebra in more general classes of commutative Banach algebras. Then we introduce a family of Segal algebras in commutative Banach algebras under considerations and study some properties of them.

Necessary and sufficient conditions for the isomorphism of real group algebras of arbitrary Abelian groups are found.

Examples of such algebras areC*-algebras and the group algebrasL1(G), whereGis a locally compact, abelian group. In this paper, we prove analogous results for, whereEis a Banach space, and. An important rôle is played by the second Hochschild cohomology group ofand, respectively, with coefficients in the one-dimensional annihilator module. It vanishes in the first case and has linear dimension one in the second one.

Introduction.Given a field k and a fc-algebra A, Gerstenhaber has introduced the concept of a deformation of A [8] which is a [[/]]-algebra structure on the module A [[/]].One of the main problems of the theory of deformations is to determine those algebras for which the only deformation (modulo an equivalence relation) is the usual A-[[r]]-algebra structure on .4[[*]].Such algebras are said to be rigid.If A is a commutative /c-algebra, we may restrict our attention to those deformations of A which are commutative.This leads us to consider the commutative cohomology groups of A, Hn(A, M)s, defined by Harrison [11].The principal purpose of this paper is to investigate the following conditions on a commutative algebra A over a field k:(1) H2(A, M)s = 0 for all ^-modules M.(2) H\A,f=0.(3) A is a rigid /r-algebra in the commutative deformation theory.(4) The module of differentials of A over k is a projective /4-module.(5) A is a finite product of (not necessarily algebraic) separable extension fields of k.We may show that (1) implies (4) [9, Theorem (20.4.9)] and that (2) implies (3) [8, p. 65].Condition (1) may be expressed by saying that A is a formally smooth fc-algebra [9, 19.4.4].When A is a field, Gerstenhaber has shown that (1), (2), and ( 5) are equivalent and he conjectured that these conditions were equivalent to (3).We show that (1), ( 2), (3), and (5) are equivalent even for A semisimple (Theorem 6.5).Moreover, if A is artinian, then (1) and ( 5) are equivalent (Proposition 5.9).In another direction, if A is a geometric complete intersection, then (1), (2), and (3) are equivalent (Theorem 6.8a).If in addition A is an integral domain with a separable quotient field, then (1), ( 2), (3), and (4) are equivalent (Theorem 6.8c).In the final section, we investigate the above conditions for the group algebra B[G] of an abelian group G which is a direct sum of cyclic groups with B a commutative algebra over a field k of positive characteristic p.In addition, we consider the following condition on G and k:(6) G has no element of order p = char (k).

E. Hrushovski proved that the theory of difference-differential fields of characteristic zero has a model-companion. We denote it DCFA. In this paper we study definable abelian groups in a model of DCFA. First we prove that such a group is embeddable on an algebraic group. Then, we study one-basedeness, stability and stable embeddability of abelian definable groups.

Let F be a field and G an Abelian group. For every prime number q and every ordinal number α we compute only in terms of F and G the Warfield q-invariants Wα, q(VF[G]) of the group VF[G] of all normed units in the group algebra F[G] under some minimal restrictions on F and G. This expands own recent results from (Extracta Mathematicae, 2005) and (Collectanea Mathematicae, 2008).

Recall that a group G has finitely satisfiable generics (fsg) or definable f-generics (dfg) if there is a global type p on G and a small model $M_0$ such that every left translate of p is finitely satisfiable in $M_0$ or definable over $M_0$ , respectively. We show that any abelian group definable in a p-adically closed field is an extension of a definably compact fsg definable group by a dfg definable group. We discuss an approach which might prove a similar statement for interpretable abelian groups. In the case where G is an abelian group definable in the standard model $\mathbb {Q}_p$ , we show that $G^0 = G^{00}$ , and that G is an open subgroup of an algebraic group, up to finite factors. This latter result can be seen as a rough classification of abelian definable groups in $\mathbb {Q}_p$ .
