We investigate a silhouette puzzle that is recently developed based on the golden ratio. Traditional silhouette puzzles are based on a simple tile. For example, the tangram is based on isosceles right triangles; that is, each of seven pieces is formed by gluing some identical isosceles right triangles. Using the property, we can analyze it by hand, that is, without computer. On the other hand, if each piece has no special property, it is quite hard even using computer since we have to handle real numbers without numerical errors during computation. The new silhouette puzzle is between them; each of seven pieces is not based on integer length and right angles, but based on golden ratio, which admits us to represent these seven pieces in some nontrivial way. Based on the property, we develop an algorithm to handle the puzzle, and our algorithm succeeded to enumerate all convex shapes that can be made by the puzzle pieces. It is known that the tangram and another classic silhouette puzzle known as Sei-shonagon chie no ita can form 13 and 16 convex shapes, respectively. The new puzzle, Nana-kin-san puzzle, admits to form 62 different convex shapes.

In this study the researcher takes the students of semester 6 at the Faculty of Arts who study English as a foreign language at the University of Shendi as a sample to carry out this study. The study attempts to investigate and identify the problems facing them in using the confused prepositions (between, among, beside, besides, by, and with), to identify this problem, and to suggest suitable remedial procedures. A test was given to 33 students who represent the whole class of semester 6 at the faculty of Arts. The test results were analyzed by using (SPSS). The use of witnesses to prove actual confusion is, of course, preferred. However, in many instances it is extremely difficult to produce such proof. The confused purchaser may in fact never become aware of his mistake. If he does become aware of the same, in the large majority of instances this information does not come to the attention of the plaintiff in an action for infringement. If found, the confused purchaser frequently refuses to admit the mistake or to testify as to it. Furthermore, plaintiffs have frequently found it inadvisable to put sufficient pressure upon prospective witnesses to cause them to testify as to confusion. There are a number of puzzles associated with the democratic peace phenomenon. The most central one, the dyadic puzzle, raises the question of why is there such a phenomenon in the first place? Why are two democratic states less likely to engage in, or escalate, conflict with one another in contrast to how the same two states might deal with non-democracies? There are, of course, a number of possible answers but since we are not sure, the explanation for the dyadic behavior remains a puzzle. Yet this same puzzle also implies a second one, the monadic puzzle. If two democratic states are less likely to be conflictual with one another, why is it that this pacific trait does not extend to all foreign policy behavior in which democratic states engage?

Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (AHE) was first described by Wells and Whimster in 1969 (1). These authors considered the process to be a late stage of Kimura’s disease, a disorder described in the Japanese literature 20 years earlier (2). Following this description, the concept that AHE and Kimura’s disease were the same entity was widely accepted. It later became clear that the entities are different, and currently most authors believe that AHE and Kimura’s disease are two separate entities (3–8). To complicate the issue further, different names have been used to describe AHE, to wit: atypical pyogenic granuloma (9), pseudopyogenic granuloma (10), inflammatory angiomatous nodule (10), papular angioplasia (11), inflammatory arteriovenous hemangioma (12), intravenous atypical vascular proliferation (13), cutaneous histiocytoid hemangioma (7,14), and epithelioid hemangioma (15). Many of these terms are confusing and in our opinion it is best not to apply them to this particular entity. Take for example the term histiocytoid hemangioma (14). This term has been used to describe a wide spectrum of vascular proliferations, both benign and malignant, all of which are histopathologically characterized by the presence of endothelial cells with a histiocytoid appearance. Because this term is not specific and does not designate a single entity it is better not to use it. Another confusing term is epithelioid hemangioma (15), since it can be confused with epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, an entirely different clinicopathologic entity.

Ovarian cysts may reach giant size and may usually be confused with intraabdominal mesentery cysts, acid accumulation or inclusion cysts. They usually appear with intestinal system findings and abdominal distention. Computed tomography (CT) may be used for the detection of size and origin of the cysts. Midline laparotomy should be preferred due to the likelihood of malignity and confusion with other intraabdominal pathologies. Treatment protocol is determined based upon the patient’s fertility. A 52-year-old female patient, who was admitted with constipation and abdominal distention, and was detected to have a mucinous cystadenoma measuring 25 cm originating in the left ovary, is presented in this paper. Objective To investigate new nurses' emotional state and its influencing factors,so as to provide references for their emotion management.Methods General information questionnaire,emotional state scale and nurse job stressors questionnaire were used to investigate emotional state and influencing factors of 120 new nurses from six Grade A hospitals in Beijing.Results Totals of 120 questionnaires were handed out and 103 were recovered,with the rate of 85.83％,among which 93 were valid,with the rate of 90.29％.The score of tension and anxiety,depression,anger and hostile,vigor and hyperactivity,fatigue and inertness,confusion and lost were respectively (17.23 ± 3.19),(33.75 ± 4.10),(27.67 ± 3.63),(17.24 ± 2.06),(14.38 ± 2.48),(13.16 ±2.20)in 93 new nurses,and (6.40 ±4.00),(7.20 ±8.20),(8.60 ±6.10),(19.80 ±4.60),(6.10 ± 3.40),(4.30 ± 2.70) in ordinary people,and the differences were statistically significant (t =32.69,62.44,50.60,-12.00,32.13,38.87,respectively; P ＜0.01).Issues concerning patients' nursing were the influencing factors for their tension and anxiety,depression,anger and hostile,as well as fatigue and inertness (t =4.94,4.33,3.29,3.77,respectively; P ＜0.01).Too heavy workload was the other reason for new nurses' fatigue and inertness (t =3.42,P ＜ 0.01).Management and interpersonal relation issues were the influencing factors for their anger and hostile,vigor and hyperactivity (t =3.89,-2.71,respectively; P ＜ 0.01).Nursing profession and work-related problems were the main influencing factors of new nurses' confusion and lost (t =5.19,P ＜0.01).Conclusions New nurses' emotional state is not good in a whole,and nursing managers should conduct specific emotion management according to different reasons. Since 1985, the Commission on Isotopic Abundances and Atomic Weights of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) has disseminated value pairs of standard atomic weight and an associated uncertainty for elements, such that it can claim at a high level of confidence that any element in question in all known normal materials will have an atomic weight that will not differ from the standard atomic weight by more than the uncertainty. The Commission has expressed this decisional uncertainty in parentheses following the value to which it applies, e.g. 78.971(8) for the standard atomic weight of selenium. This presentation is confusing because it suggests to users that 0.008 is the standard uncertainty with a standard deviation of one, which is not intended. To remove this confusion, we provide a 2015 table of standard atomic weights with decisional uncertainty values listed in curly brackets following the last significant digit to which they are attributed.

More than seventy percent of people in Taiwan are native speakers of Taiwanese, but most of them find difficulty in understanding the way of romanizing this language. A major reason is that different systems for romanizing Taiwanese have confused the speakers. This paper argues that the number of the systems for romanizing the language should be reduced to two: System A and System B. The study is focused on discussing the compatibility between romanization systems of Taiwan Mandarin and the romnanization system B of Taiwanese. The results show that Taiwanese and Taiwan Mandarin share with each other 176 syllables which have the same pronunciations in these two languages. Ninety-two percent (163) of this group of syllables can be rendered into the same phonetic transcriptions shared by the romanization systems of the two languages. Moreover, the study shows that 19 syllables have different pronunciations in the two languages, but they can be rendered into the same phonetic transcriptions shared by the two languages. These 19 syllables can be categorized into three groups. The confusion between the syllables which have different pronunciations in Taiwanese and Taiwan Mandarin but are rendered into the same phonetic transcriptions can be easily avoided. The system for romanizing Taiwanese comprised of 787 syllables is devised. This new system has a ”positive transfer” effect on language learning, because it is compatible with romanization systems of Taiwan Mandarin consisting of 410 syllables.

Among the myths that have shaped our modern world, the myth of ‘race’, which lacks any rational foundation, is surely the most tragic. One need only think of the abuses experienced by many populations throughout history. Therefore, it is important to trace how this concept arose and to examine why it continues to exist today.The word ‘race’ first appeared in Europe during the XIV century. Possibly, it derived from the Latin word radix=root, or from the Arabic razza, or from generatio=generation, descent, or more simply from ratio=reason, which in the scholastic language of the XV century meant, amongst other things, the order of succession according to which a living being was placed on a date line of ascendants and descendants. Initially used in the field of animal breeding (probably originating from the ancient French ‘haraz’, horse breeder, which through common usage then became ‘race’). This term was first used and applied to Man by Bernier (1688) and entered into everyday speech following the philosophical works of Emanuel Kant (1775). Notwithstanding, the term is misleading and without sense, particularly when it tends to confuse the physical characteristics of Man with those of cultures, religions or economies, or rather, when the historical and cultural characteristics of ‘ethnic groups’ are confused with the biological characteristics of the diverse human populations.

Initial Interest Confusion in Metatag Cases: The Move from Confusion to Diversion

Scholars have long puzzled over the conditions that promote cooperation between nation-states. This thesis develops a new approach to the puzzle by examining the practice of international cooperation through a socio-legal lens. It is grounded in a qualitative case study of the criminal justice relationship between Australia and Indonesia, focusing on three areas: police cooperation, extradition arrangements, and cooperation relating to detained nationals. The thesis asks: what are the conditions that promote crime cooperation between Australia and Indonesia? Beneath this overarching question, it poses the following sub-questions: What drives the cooperation? How do different actors influence the cooperation? What determines the scope for cooperation? The thesis frames these questions socio-legally by situating the cooperative relationship within transnational legal orders (TLOs) that regulate terrorism and other transnational crimes. The TLO framework has several advantages over existing approaches to studying international cooperation. First, rather than privileging the state as an actor, the framework attends to the multiplicity of actors above and below the state who shape cooperative initiatives. Second, rather than focusing on political dynamics, it also highlights the significance of law and policy in the practice of international cooperation. Third, it embraces the inherent complexity of this practice by integrating various empirical and theoretical perspectives into its analysis. To provide a rich empirical picture of the criminal justice relationship between Australia and Indonesia, the thesis relies on interviews with over 100 current and former participants in the relationship, and extensive archival material, including media reporting and government records. To make sense of this data within the TLO framework, the thesis draws on theories relating to the construction of transnational problems (securitisation), the interplay of domestic and international politics (two-level games), the operation of international police networks (bureaucratic autonomy and culture), and the scope for international cooperation (reciprocity). It also incorporates insights from regulatory studies. Based on this analysis, the thesis argues that there is a structural tension between political and policy interests at the heart of the cooperative relationship. It further argues that cooperation is more likely to occur when these interests are in balance, and that law is a critical institution in enabling this balance to be struck. To conclude, the thesis brings the key findings of the study together to propose a model of the cooperative relationship. It also considers whether the findings could be generalised and their practical implications.

Students growing up in socially disadvantaged environments typically experience poorer educational outcomes than students living in more advantaged circumstances. Strengthening parents’ involvement in their children’s learning is widely regarded as an important way of helping to reduce the achievement gap between disadvantaged students and their more affluent peers, but unfortunately policy interest in parent involvement has outpaced evidence of its effectiveness as an intervention strategy. A fundamental problem is the conceptual inconsistency, ambiguity and confusion in the literature on parent involvement. This confusion is exacerbated by the inherent complexity of the processes through which various forms of parent involvement are likely to have their effects on different aspects of children’s learning. In addition, factors such as family socio-economic status and ethnic background are expected to act as moderators of these already complex relationships. Hence, it is impossible to synthesise existing results and draw firm conclusions as to which aspects of parent involvement might be effective targets for intervention in disadvantaged communities. In other words, we still need to know, “What matters? And for whom does it matter?”
