Collaborative beamforming in wireless sensor networks using a novel particle swarm optimization algorithm variant

To solve the strong randomicity and slow convergence of the Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) algorithms, two new particle’s position renewal formulas were analyzed on the basis of extrapolation in mathematics. A new modified PSO algorithms (called Leading PSO algorithms) was put forward. The Direct Torque Control(DTC) System was built in the environment of Matlab(Simulink). The weight and threshold values of BP Neural Network were trained using the modified PSO algorithms. Some disadvantages such as slow convergence speed and easily plunging into the local solution were avoided effectively. The simulation result shows that the system works well, and the rotor speed identifier has great static and dynamic performance.

Particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is generally improved by adaptively adjusting the inertia weight or combining with other evolution algorithms. However, in most modified PSO algorithms, the random values are always generated by uniform distribution in the range of [0, 1]. In this study, the random values, which are generated by uniform distribution in the ranges of [0, 1] and [−1, 1], and Gauss distribution with mean 0 and variance 1 ( U [ 0 , 1 ] , U [ − 1 , 1 ] and G ( 0 , 1 ) ), are respectively used in the standard PSO and linear decreasing inertia weight (LDIW) PSO algorithms. For comparison, the deterministic PSO algorithm, in which the random values are set as 0.5, is also investigated in this study. Some benchmark functions and the pressure vessel design problem are selected to test these algorithms with different types of random values in three space dimensions (10, 30, and 100). The experimental results show that the standard PSO and LDIW-PSO algorithms with random values generated by U [ − 1 , 1 ] or G ( 0 , 1 ) are more likely to avoid falling into local optima and quickly obtain the global optima. This is because the large-scale random values can expand the range of particle velocity to make the particle more likely to escape from local optima and obtain the global optima. Although the random values generated by U [ − 1 , 1 ] or G ( 0 , 1 ) are beneficial to improve the global searching ability, the local searching ability for a low dimensional practical optimization problem may be decreased due to the finite particles.

Collaborative particle swarm optimization with a data mining technique for manufacturing cell design

Since the last years different metaheuristic methods have been used to solve clustering problems. This paper addresses the problem of manufacturing Cell Formation using a modified particle swarm optimisation (PSO) algorithm. The main modification made to the original PSO algorithm consists on that in this work it is not used the vector of velocities as the standard PSO algorithm does. The proposed algorithm uses the concept of proportional likelihood with modifications, a technique that is used in data mining techniques. Some simulations are presented and compared. The criterion used to group the machines in cells is based on the minimization of inter-cell movements. The computational results show that the PSO algorithm is able to find the optimal solutions on almost all instances.

A dynamic adaptive particle swarm optimization and genetic algorithm is presented to solve constrained engineering optimization problems. A dynamic adaptive inertia factor is introduced in the basic particle swarm optimization algorithm to balance the convergence rate and global optima search ability by adaptively adjusting searching velocity during search process. Genetic algorithm–related operators including a selection operator with time-varying selection probability, crossover operator, and n-point random mutation operator are incorporated in the particle swarm optimization algorithm to further exploit optimal solutions generated by the particle swarm optimization algorithm. These operators are used to diversify the swarm and prevent premature convergence. Tests on nine constrained mechanical engineering design optimization problems with different kinds of objective functions, constraints, and design variables in nature demonstrate the superiority of the dynamic adaptive particle swarm optimization and genetic algorithm against several other meta-heuristic algorithms in terms of solution quality, robustness, and convergence rate in most cases.

The problem with development of the support vector machine (SVM) classifiers using modified particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and their ensembles has been considered. Solving this problem would allow fulfilling the high-precision data classification, especially Big Data classification, with the acceptable time expenditures. The modified PSO algorithm conducts a simultaneous search of the type of kernel functions, the parameters of the kernel function and the value of the regularization parameter for the SVM classifier. The idea of particles' «regeneration» served as the basis for the modified PSO algorithm. In the implementation of this algorithm, some particles change the type of their kernel function to the one which corresponds to the particle with the best value of the classification accuracy. The offered PSO algorithm allows reducing the time expenditures for the developed SVM classifiers, which is very important for Big Data classification problem. In most cases such SVM classifier provides the high quality of data classification. In exceptional cases the SVM ensembles based on the decorrelation maximization algorithm for the different strategies of the decision-making on the data classification and the majority vote rule can be used. Also, the two-level SVM classifier has been offered. This classifier works as the group of the SVM classifiers at the first level and as the SVM classifier on the base of the modified PSO algorithm at the second level. The results of experimental studies confirm the efficiency of the offered approaches for Big Data classification.

Prediction of gas solubility in polymers by back propagation artificial neural network based on self-adaptive particle swarm optimization algorithm and chaos theory

The Cloud computing is a most recent computing paradigm where IT services are provided and delivered over the Internet on demand. The Scheduling problem for cloud computing environment has a lot of awareness as the applications tasks could be mapped to the available resources to achieve better results. One of the main existed algorithms of task scheduling on the available resources on the cloud environment is based on the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). According to this PSO algorithm, the applications tasks are allocated to the available resources to minimize the computation cost only. In this paper, a modified PSO algorithm has been introduced and implemented for solving task scheduling problem in the cloud. The main idea of the modified PSO is that the tasks are allocated on the available resources to minimize the execution time in addition to the computation cost. This modified PSO algorithm is called Modified Particle Swarm Optimization (MPOS).The MPOS evaluations have been illustrated using different time, and cost parameters and their effects in the performance measures such as utilization, speedup, and efficiency. According to the implementation results, it is found that the modified MPOS algorithm outperforms the existed PSO.

Neural Network system for SoC is one topic in the world. Recently, SoC began to combine AI technique by Python. When developers consider Intelligent system on SoC, the co-design software and hardware are significant. In this case, small devices and embedded system are target system. For IoT, those techniques will grow up in the world. Those cases, avoiding premature convergence while keeping performance is a challenge in training the neural network, especially in a case of large NNs or a large number of training data. In this case, one problem is a huge memory and processing power. For tiny memory and processing system as SoC, we propose an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm called the PSOseed2 algorithm for training NN. The PSOseed2 algorithm solves the premature convergence of the standard PSO (SPSO) algorithm by slightly modifying the velocity update function without adding many computational tasks to the SPSO algorithm. We evaluated this algorithm on field programmable gate array (FPGA)-based NN and software-based NN and trained these NNs with different PSO algorithms that are SPSO, PSOseed, PSOseed2, and dissipative PSO. Experimental results with different datasets confirmed that the NNs trained by the proposed PSOseed2 algorithm had better recognition rates and lower global learning errors than the NN trained by other PSO algorithms. In this talk, I would like to talk those relational research in the world and our results and discussion.

A combined algorithm based on the improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) and EWRLS algorithm is presented in this paper. A modified particle swarm optimization with velocity is also presented to enhance the response speed of PSO algorithm. The selection criteria of the switching threshold between the PSO and EWRLS algorithm is also given by using robust minmax estimation method. This combined algorithm solves the tracking problem of time-varying system with fast parameter changes, which is very difficult to the RLS algorithm. It is not sensitive to the noise. Its good performance is verified by simulation studies.

Task allocation is one of the research focuses of multi-robot system. On the base of presenting the utility values matrix of robots relative to tasks and analyzing the characteristics of multi-robot task allocation, we build the multi-robot task allocation model based on robotic utility value. In order to prevent the basic particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm from converging on local optimum, this paper proposes a modified particle swarm optimization (MPSO) algorithm by introducing the linear decrease mechanism of inertia weight and the concept of adjustment operator and adjustment sequence. With the evolution of velocity in the MPSO algorithm, particle not only studies from the historical optimum individual of itself and population, but also studies from the other stochastic individuals with some probability. Finally, the MPSO algorithm is used to solve the task allocation problem of RoboCup 2D soccer robot system, the efficiency of this modified algorithm is proved through simulation results.

The performances of Particle Swarm Optimization and Genetic Algorithm have been compared to develop a methodology for concurrent and integrated design of mechanical structure and controller of a 2-dof robotic manipulator solving tracking problems. The proposed design scheme optimizes various parameters belonging to different domains (that is, link geometry, mass distribution, moment of inertia, control gains) concurrently to design manipulator, which can track some given paths accurately with a minimum power consumption. The main strength of this study lies with the design of an integrated scheme to solve the above problem. Both real-coded Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization are used to solve this complex optimization problem. Four approaches have been developed and their performances are compared. Particle Swarm Optimization is found to perform better than the Genetic Algorithm, as the former carries out both global and local searches simultaneously, whereas the latter concentrates mainly on the global search. Controllers with adaptive gain values have shown better performance compared to the conventional ones, as expected.

In order to solve the problem of interaction between multiple evaluation indexes of seed metering performance under multiple factors of centralized seed feeding device, a multi-objective optimization of structure based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was proposed in this paper. The wheat centralized seed feeding device was taken as the research object, and the experimental factors were cone angle of type hole, working speed and seed filling gap. The working process of wheat centralized seed feeding device was simulated by discrete element method (DEM). The average seed number of type hole, the variation coefficient of the average seed number of type hole, and the maximum tangential force between seed and seed feeding mechanism were selected as the evaluation indexes. Through the variance analysis of the evaluation indexes by the experimental factors, the optimization objective function was constructed. Using PSO algorithm, the multi-objective optimization was carried out for the wheat centralized seed feeding device. The optimization results show that the best structural combination parameters of the wheat centralized seed feeding device are the hole cone angle of 31.6° and the seed filling gap of 4.6 mm. The validity of the method was verified by simulation and field test. The results show that the PSO algorithm multi-objective optimization method proposed in this paper can provide a reference for the structural improvement and optimal design of the centralized seed feeding device.
