Crowd-intelligence-based software development method and practices

The rapid development of artificial intelligence technology has provided brand-new ideas and methods for computer application software development, becoming an important driving force to promote the intelligence and efficiency of software development. Starting from the overall concepts of artificial intelligence technology and computer application software development, this paper systematically analyzes the application of artificial intelligence in computer software development, and elaborates on the functions of artificial immune technology, neural network technology, Agent technology, and expert systems in software development. It not only provides theoretical support for the application of artificial intelligence technology in software development but also offers operable strategic suggestions for practice, which is of great guiding significance for improving software development efficiency and optimizing software quality.

In this paper, we identify a set of factors that may be used to forecast software productivity and software development time. Software productivity was measured in function points per person hours, and software development time was measured in number of elapsed days. Using field data on over 130 field software projects from various industries, we empirically test the impact of team size, integrated computer aided software engineering (ICASE) tools, software development type, software development platform, and programming language type on the software development productivity and development time. Our results indicate that team size, software development type, software development platform, and programming language type significantly impact software development productivity. However, only team size significantly impacts software development time. Our results indicate that effective management of software development teams, and using different management strategies for different software development type environments may improve software development productivity.

During the process of appearance and development of software engineering, the thought originality plays a very important role. The paper analyzes several examples of the thought originality promoting development of software engineering, such as, understanding software and software development, the form of structuring software development method, the form of object-oriented software development method and the form of agile software development method. The paper is to point out except teaching the knowledge of software engineering; we must teach them the ideas of thought originality and strengthen the ideas of thought originality, during the process of software engineerpsilas teaching.

Responding to the fact that software systems become more and more complex and mutable, not only the software-standards-related technologies should be adopted, but the environments for software development and evolution should also be flexible and integratable. These facts make software development and maintenance difficult and costly. In this chapter, we first illustrate the activities and studies for software standards, processes, CASE toolsets, and environments. Then, we propose a process and an environment for evolution-oriented software development, called the PRocess and Agent-based Integrated Software development Environment (PRAISE). PRAISE advocates software development with popular software methodologies, and it uses an XML-based mechanism to unify the various paradigms with different standards. It integrates processes, roles, toolsets, and work products to make software development more efficient. With PRAISE, users are encouraged to adopt familiar mechanisms and formal approaches as they wish. PRAISE maintains the consistency of the paradigms so that users do not need to worry about conflicts with other paradigms that are built in or added later. PRAISE meets the need for evolving software development and maintenance.

Object-oriented software metrics are important in software engineering field for measurement of the software quality, size estimation, complexity and effort. Object oriented software development is the most popular and best practice in software development. Object oriented software metrics can be used for measuring extend of object orientedness of a program. These quantities are important information indicators, that can be helpful for a software developer in take decisions for designing good software. It is proven that the software metrics provide quantitative information about the structure of the code, which can be used to determine the reliability of software. The design of the software is highly recommended to be object oriented in the software development environment. Software metrics specific to programs that have object oriented design can be used to measure the quality of the software like inheritance, assessing the effects of coupling, the complexity of the code, size aspects, etc, of the software developed in such an environment. Software measurement is a way for assessing the quality of software. Many attributes can define quality of a software, internal (size, complexity) as well as external (reliability)[14]. Often internal attributes are contributing factors to external attributes. Reliability as a term means the degree to which a component, product or system executes specified functions for a specific period of time under specified conditions. Software reliability is the software being trustworthy of the specifications. The aim of the work is to model the relationship between reliability of object oriented software to the object oriented design metrics and predict reliability of software.

Many regular business operations are transforming into digital services, increasing advanced multi-platforms, rapid operational alignment, flexibility, and environmental impact through energy consumption, hardware waste, and technology investments. Flexible and sustainable system development models emphasizing energy efficiency can help innovate software development as digital servicing applications shift. This research is motivated by the need to improve energy consumption in early software design and development due to rising technological efficiency and sustainability demands. Although effective in iterative development and stakeholder engagement, traditional Agile methodologies often struggle with long-term sustainability and energy efficiency. Extended Agile, combining Agile, layered architecture, and aspect-oriented frameworks (ALAI), promises to improve system modularity, flexibility, maintainability, and sustainability. This study’s findings are not just theoretical, but also practically relevant, as they explore the energy efficiency of ALAI software development methodologies, using graduate admission information system services (GAISS) as an example. GAISS is a complex system that handles the entire process of graduate admissions, from application submission to final decision. The study quantifies the energy usage of a student-list webpage by analyzing Microsoft IIS server logs from February 2022 to May 2024. Directly applicable findings show that the GAISS based on the ALAI framework reduces energy consumption by 10.7914% compared to traditional Agile software developments. ALAI used 892.80 kWh versus Agile’s 1000.80 kWh during operations, saving energy. These findings demonstrate the benefits of integrating aspect-oriented frameworks and layering approaches into Agile methodologies, contributing to sustainable software development discourse. The study emphasizes the importance of energy-efficient frameworks such as ALAI to reduce software systems’ environmental impact and promote software development sustainability. The findings of this study, with their practical relevance, assist software developers and organizations in choosing software design and development methods that maximize operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Starting from the experience gained in organizing TAPSOFT'85, the paper discusses the place of formal methods in software development. It distinguishes two notions of theory: the mathematical science of computation and the treatment of computing as a human activity. An adequate software theory needs to take both theoretical perspectives into account. Therefore, the paper explores the borderline of formalization and human activity in several directions: concerning the role and scope of formalized procedures, the relation between formal models and situated use, the process of learning in software development and the ways computer programs become effective in use. Fundamental assumptions underlying formal methods and their relation to emancipatory approaches such as participatory design are discussed. The paper closes with calling for a dialogical framework for further pursuing these questions.

The existing software engineering seldom considers software usability, and human-computer interaction (HCI) techniques which can improve the software usability cannot guarantee development efficiency. Recently, more and more stakeholders and users begin to regard the usability as an important software requirement. In order to bring respective advantages of software engineering and HCI techniques into full play to improve software usability and development efficiency, the paper presents user model driven software development, which integrates HCI techniques into software development method by eliciting user model under the participation of user, HCI designer and software engineer. Applications show that the method can be effectively applied to small software development team, and can raise software usability and development efficiency.

The paper focuses on enhancing the current or modern software development practices in Information Technology (IT) organizations. The research paper aims to address the gap between various hybrid software development approaches and existing practices that contribute to software development practices. The methodology adopted here is to obtain data from software professionals and understand how the current practices in the software development industry have contributed to the productivity of the employees and the IT organization, which has been done with the help of a survey questionnaire and by analyzing existing research articles and papers on the software development practices. This research is a conceptual model focused on a modern hybrid approach for software development, rather than focusing on a single software development approach, which can help IT organization increase productivity and deliver business value beyond customer expectations. The cost to build and time to market a software product or a software service can reduce by integrating the required software development practices. Today, staying relevant in the competitive market can be made easier by choosing the best available software development practices, frameworks, and models to fit an organization’s value and knowledge system. The conceptual model aims to reduce the gap between various hybrid software development approaches and existing practices contributing to software development. The paper concludes by discussing the benefits of the hybrid software development approach and urge IT organizations to adopt it as per their software development requirements and customer requirements.

An integrated data flow visual language and software development environment

The problem of multicriteria optimization of tech stack selection in a non-linear software development environment is formalized. Approaches to solving the problem based on the formation of a compromise area of local quality criteria, additive convolution of vector criteria and their scalarization are considered. An aggregate quality criterion of the software development platform is proposed. It allows taking into account the nonlinearities of the external environment in the framework of solving the problem of extremal control. The coordinates of the vector criteria are piecewise continuous functions A comparative analysis of various approaches to changing the software development tech stack in the face of significant disturbances in the development tools market has been carried out. The possibilities of boxed solutions, custom development and Open Source software development in ensuring information security of the software development environment are shown. The information stability of a software development project using Less Code tools is established and the advantages of technological solutions are shown. The analysis of the adequacy of the obtained solutions was carried out using the Open Source Less Code of the Jmix platform. The data of a comparative analysis of the budgets of the Less Code platform and custom software from vendors are given, which showed the benefits of using Open Source software development tools for long-term operation of the development platform.

The Use of Analytic Hierarchy Process for Software Development Method Selection: A Perspective of e-Government in Indonesia

With the coming of the Internet era, great changes have taken place in the development models, runtime environments and providing styles of software. Being an open and collaborative working environment, Internet gives birth to mechanisms for successful crowd-based and collaborative creation, which have had profound impacts on development and application of software. How to combine these mechanisms with industrial approaches for trustworthy software production, and to improve the development efficiency and quality of software, are new challenging issues of software technologies in Internet era. This paper proposes a new approach for trustworthy software development based on the crowd wisdom, namely Crowd-based Method, which centers on crowd collaboration, resource sharing, runtime monitoring and trustworthiness analysis, to support the transformation from creative software works to mature software products, and supports the evolution of software. Firstly, an evidence-based concept model of trustworthy software is proposed, which classifies the data generated at the stages of software development, sharing and application as three kinds of trustworthiness evidence of software, and constructs a new process model for software evolution. Secondly, a service model for collaborative development and evolution of trustworthy software is proposed, which supports: (1) the socialized software development deeply combining the software creation and production; (2) the open and ranked trustworthy software resource sharing; and (3) the evaluation of software trustworthiness based on mass data analysis. Finally, with the background of the highly trustworthy software production tools and integrated environment (Trustie), this paper expounds the key technologies, development environments and application practices for the proposed Crowd-based Method.
