This paper presents design and development of an Automated Home Control System (AHCS) using mobile phone. A cell (mobile) phone acts as a modem for the control of electrical home appliances. This is achieved when the mobile phone number is dialed and an appropriate command button is pressed. The paper demonstrates how to develop a system that aids the control of remote devices using mobile phones to enable devices without infrared though connected to power sources to be controlled and considering the possibility of users to monitor the status and usage of these devices. It makes use of a programmable interface controller (PIC) to control the switching of the output. This design is customized as a central device for four pieces of home appliances using relay to activate each of the respective electronic gadgets.

The project proposes an efficient implementation for IoT (Internet of Things) used for monitoring and controlling the home appliances via World Wide Web. Home automation system uses the portable devices as a user interface. They can communicate with home automation network through an Internet gateway, by means of low power communication protocols like Zigbee, Wi-Fi etc. This project aims at controlling home appliances via Smartphone using Wi-Fi as communication protocol and raspberry pi as server system. The user here will move directly with the system through a web-based interface over the web, whereas home appliances like lights, fan and door lock are remotely controlled through easy website. An extra feature that enhances the facet of protection from fireplace accidents is its capability of sleuthing the smoke in order that within the event of any fireplace, associates an alerting message and an image is sent to Smartphone. The server will be interfaced with relay hardware circuits that control the appliances running at home. The communication with server allows the user to select the appropriate device. The communication with server permits the user to pick out the acceptable device. The server communicates with the corresponding relays. If the web affiliation is down or the server isn't up, the embedded system board still will manage and operate the appliances domestically. By this we provide a climbable and price effective Home Automation system.

Today, using communications devices such as simple and smart mobile phones has led man to face EMFs more. Thus is essential, measuring and comparing the emitted EMFs of simple mobile phones with that of smart phones. The EMFs of 2 simple mobile phones and 2 smart phones were measured by EMFs measurement portable equipment model HI-3603 in a ringing mode. Ultimately, the difference between electric and magnetic fields in simple and smart phones was evaluated by the ANOVA statistical test. The means of the electric fields of simple and smart mobile phones was 2.38±0.18 v/m and 1.9±0.18 v/m respectively. The means of magnetic fields of simple and smart mobile phones was 0.49±0.13 mG and 0.48±0.1 mG, respectively. The ratio of the mean of electric field in simple and smart phones to the standard limit (53.8 v/m) was 4.42% and 3.53% and also the ratio of the mean of electric field in simple and smart phones to the standard limit is 25.12% and 24.61%, respectively. Despite the fact that the mean of electric and magnetic fields of simple mobile phones is more than smart ones, the ANOVA statistical analysis shows that there is no significant difference between these two means (P value > 0.05). Despite the fact that EMFs in simple and smart phones are approximately equal or less than the standard limits, the safety notes shall be considered while using each of these devices.

This paper presents one of the emerging applications of the GSM technology. Ever since the invention of the mobile phone as well as SMS technology and the two-way messaging solutions it provides several creative solutions have evolved on how to apply this technology to revolutionize the standards of living and to solve other problems associated with manual control system. Controlling home and office appliances regardless of time and space is a serious challenge facing the world today; most especially in hazardous environment, or controlling of home appliances remotely and providing security when the user is away from the place. The control of home appliances using Short Messaging Service (SMS) is increasingly becoming not only an easy and comfortable way of control to the populace of several nations, but also a means of exposing another vital application of the SMS technology other than its most commonly use in sending and reception of text messages, and making calls by subscribers. The system will be used to provide ideal solution to the problems faced by home owners in daily life ranging from switching ON/OFF; water pumping machine, generator set, to controlling of home appliances like; Television, Lighting systems, etc wirelessly via SMS. When the action has been carried out, a response / feedback message is sent to the user mobile phone. A satisfactory result based on the design specifications was achieved after construction.

We show how modern mobile phones (Weiser's tabs) can interact with their environment, especially large situated displays (Weiser's boards). Smart phones' emerging capabilities are fueling a rise in the use of mobile phones as input devices to such resources as situated displays, vending machines, and home appliances. Mobile phones' prevalence gives them great potential to be the default physical interface for ubiquitous computing applications. We survey interaction techniques that use mobile phones as input devices to ubiquitous computing environments. We use smart phone to describe an enhanced mobile phone. Our analysis blurs the line between smart phones and PDAs such as the Palm Pilot because the feature sets continue to converge.

This paper describes the design of an innovative and low cost self-assistive technology that is used to facilitate the control of a wheelchair and home appliances by using advanced voice commands of the disabled people. This proposed system will provide an alternative to the physically challenged people with quadriplegics who is permanently unable to move their limbs (but who is able to speak and hear) and elderly people in controlling the motion of the wheelchair and home appliances using their voices to lead an independent, confident and enjoyable life. The performance of this microcontroller based and voice integrated design is evaluated in terms of accuracy and velocity in various environments. The results show that it could be part of an assistive technology for the disabled persons without any third person’s assistance.

Smart and cell phone with self-contained sensor such as accelerometer, gyroscopic and digital magnetic compass sensor have been popular. Combining certain algorithm and those sensors, it can estimate user’s activity, situation and even user’s absolute position. However, estimation of user’s activity, situation and user’s absolute position become difficult when once sensors posture and position are changing from original position in user’s motion. Also, according to stored, worn and handheld position and posture of those cell and smart phone are often changed. Therefore, we exclude estimation of user’s position and we focus to only estimation of user’s activity and situation for risk management. Basically, we design special classifier for detecting user’s unusual behavior and apply other user’s position data from internet to the results detected by the classifier which are combined wavelet transform and SVM. We assume that user’s unusual activity and situation can be detected by smart and cell phone with high accuracy.KeywordsActivity recognitionWearable computerSVMnearly fall incidentcell phone and smart phone

The primary objective of our project is to construct a fully functional voice based Home automation system that uses Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to provide a cost-effective, efficient way to work together with home appliances. There are many smart home solutions in the market that aim to automate the basic operations of these home appliances using various technologies such as GSM (Global System for Mobile), NFC (Near-Field Communication) etc. However, most of these systems focus on mimicking the basic operation of the electrical switch. Our project aims at providing a fully automated voice based solution that our users can rely on, to perform more than just switching on/off the appliances. The user sends a command through speech to the mobile device, which interprets the message and sends the appropriate command to the specific appliance. We plan on implementing four basic home appliances as a “Proof-of-Concept” for this project which includes Fan, Light, Coffee Machine and Door Alarms. The voice command given by the user is interpreted by the mobile device using Natural Language processing. The mobile device acts as a central console; it determines what operation must be completed by which appliance to fulfill the user's request. The central console might likewise be either a desktop application, web application or a smart phone application as nearly all of the data transferred can be processed by the cloud. However, for the convenience of the user and increased mobile capabilities we will be using a smart phone in this project. The appliances are associated with the mobile device through an Arduino Board that establishes the concept of Internet of Things. The Arduino Boards are interfaced with the appliances and programmed in a manner that they respond to mobile inputs.

With the development of intelligent home appliance technology, real-time home appliance status information is now generated in large quantities. New technology is necessary in order to process the large amount of status information that is generated every day. An innovative technology that has recently been used to process large amounts of data is cloud computing. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a system model to control and monitor home appliances using home network and cloud computing technologies in a smart home environment. UPnP technology is used to extract status information from home appliances. Cloud computing technology analyzes and processes the information and also provides virtualization services to users. In the proposed method, the gateway collects and stores home appliance information using home network technologies and sends the information to the cloud server for storage and management.

For the smart home with energy management which belongs to the demand-side of power grid, this paper designed a kind of home appliance control module based on the wireless network communication system. Common home appliance can be inserted into smart home system through this module and can be used immediately, which greatly increases the scalability of the system. After commissioning, we make it to control appliances effectively and monitor energy consumption in real time, which proves its validity, rationality and stability. Users can operate and monitor home appliances remotely through indoor smart terminals, Internet and mobile phones.

The main objective of this work is to design and construct a PoE switch based system: to control electric appliances such as light, fan, heater, washing machine, motor, TV, etc. and simultaneously data communication facility. Especially PoE switch can manage power and data separately by a splitter which motivated the need to research into it not only for industrial application but also for domestic use or home use. Power is use for controlling devices and data is for communication purpose. This system will play an important role for the elderly and physically disabled people to control their home appliances in intuitive and flexible way through Wi-Fi and internet. This system is password protected so only authorized person can control any sensitive electrical appliances. Most commercially available home automation systems are used only for control purpose. But by our proposed PoE based system we can control electrical appliances as well as data communication by the same switch port.
