Dynamic Simulation and Model-based Control System Design for Comminution Circuits

Due to the complexity of heat transfer mechanism, heat transfer model in furnace with simple form and applying to real-time calculation accuracy usually has a low accuracy. By using partial least squares regression (PLSR) method the boiler heat transfer model was established. This method combines the forecasting by means of model with non-model style data connotation analysis, thus, the model by mean of PLSR overcomes multivariable correlativity. The prediction model for boiler heat transfer based on PLSR has high accuracy, clear physical meaning, and more reasonable explanation to heat transfer mechanism of boiler, as compared with the ordinary least-squares regression model. The modeling method presented in this paper can be used for simulation and model-based control system design on ships steam power system and other large power system.

The aim of this paper is to analyze different loss modeling methods for hydrostatic pumps and motors as an input for dynamic system simulation. Using dynamic simulation in an early design phase allows for optimization of driveline, driveline control and working hydraulic within several operating conditions. Using precise loss modeling methods enables prediction of energy consumption and energy losses over various duty cycles. Rising energy costs, enhanced government guidelines and increased environmental awareness require more efficient drive concepts especially in mobile working machines. Because of the complex machine structure with numerous hydraulic power consumers, like driveline, working, steering and braking hydraulic, dynamic system simulation is a need in the early design phase. This paper focuses on partial and full hydrostatic drivelines of mobile working machines which operate mostly on basis of a closed circuit hydrostatic transmission. Hydrostatic power lines connect pump and motor directly without additional losses because of valves or system characteristics. Therefore losses in the hydrostatic units have major relevance for the loss behavior of the hydrostatic transmission. The use of precise loss models is essential for analyzing hydrostatic transmission by means of dynamic system simulation. In the scope of this paper, one physical-empiric and four mathematical loss modeling methods are introduced, investigated and compared. Finally, the most promising modeling method is used for the simulation of a state of the art hydrostatic transmission.

In order to solve the problem that the decision-making command and emergency response ability of ship damage control commanders is difficult to generate and slow to improve, a dynamic interactive damage control command training system is designed based on the facilities of port and shore damage control, and the technologies virtual and real combination and computer simulation are adopted, which has training functions such as damage perception, damage control plotting, information transmission and decision application. By clarifying the command and disposal process, the system effectively improves the efficiency of damage control command, has strong pertinence and expansibility, and provides an effective training means and a reliable training platform for improving the decision-making ability and level of damage control commanders.

In view of the dynamic simulation requirements of the construction process, using plug-in, GLSL rendering, key frame animation and collision detection technology, design and development of SiPESC animation editing and rendering engine module, in order to solve the dynamic simulation problems of the construction process, to verify the feasibility of the construction scheme. This paper discusses the design idea, software framework and key technologies of construction process dynamic simulation system. The practical application examples of the software show its practicability in engineering field.

Control theory has contributed a set of foundational techniques to handle “change” at runtime in software applications. These techniques however have fundamental limitations as well: (i) they require the development and understanding of mathematical models; (ii) synthesizing solutions is often done on a per-problem basis, discouraging flexibility and generality. Software engineering, as a discipline, has always aimed at finding reusable and modular solutions. The combination of the desire to apply formally grounded control-theoretical principles and reuse existing solutions has motivated research on the topic of automatically generated control solutions. This research aims at designing control strategies in an automated way from data that qualifies the given problem at hand. This chapter provides an overview of the research topic of automatically generated control-theoretical solutions, explaining the key research contributions and paving the way for future research.

This project is part of a research effort to design a hydrogen plant and its interface with a nuclear reactor. This project developed a dynamic modeling, simulation and optimization environment for nuclear hydrogen production systems. A hybrid discrete/continuous model captures both the continuous dynamics of the nuclear plant, the hydrogen plant, and their interface, along with discrete events such as major upsets. This hybrid model makes us of accurate thermodynamic sub-models for the description of phase and reaction equilibria in the thermochemical reactor. Use of the detailed thermodynamic models will allow researchers to examine the process in detail and have confidence in the accurary of the property package they use.

This paper presents the design of a novel high-temperature solar assisted triple-pressure level combined cycle power plant. The system includes innovative high-temperature flat plate evacuated solar thermal collectors, a double stage lithium bromide/water absorption chiller, pumps, heat exchangers, storage tanks, mixers, diverters, controllers and a triple-pressure combined cycle power plant. This novel layout uses high-vacuum non-concentrating flat plate solar thermal collectors driving a double effect absorption chiller, leading to an overall high coefficient of performance for the solar cooling section. The provided cooling energy is used to cool gas turbine inlet air to enhance system efficiency and electrical capacity. This effect is mainly performed during central hours of the day when the conventional gas-fired combined cycles dramatically suffer for efficiency and capacity reduction, as a consequence of the corresponding increase of external air temperature. Such increase is related to the higher availability of solar radiation. This technology may be a viable solution, especially for hot and dry areas, in terms of primary energy savings and increased revenues. This prototypal system was numerically analysed for a combined cycle with a rated electrical power of 99 MWe and an electrical efficiency of 56%, developing a dynamic simulation model and detailed thermo-economic optimizations. Special attention is also paid to the design of novel control strategies aiming at maximizing the solar cooling effect. The results of the dynamic simulations show a very high average thermal efficiency of the solar collectors, equal to 34%. Implications of the performed work allowed an increase of the power output up to 5.5% and a satisfactory payback period equal to 10.7 years.

Simulation in Control System Design

<div class="htmlview paragraph">Due to the increasing interest for the design and development of small electric cars, as well as the conversion of thermal vehicles to electric ones, there is a real demand for the development of algorithms that can be used from independent designers or small manufacturers with personal computers, for the design and evaluation of the suspension system characteristics. The algorithm presented here performs structural and dynamic analysis of the suspension system of small cars utilizing a full-screen editor. Results are provided in text and graphics form.</div>

The purpose of this column is to announce the availability of computer programs as a companion for the examples in many of the textbooks used in courses for teaching control engineers [1]. The computer programs are written in Scilab, which is free open-source software for numerical computations originally developed at Inria [2] and currently managed by Scilab Enterprises [3]. Scilab is an alternative high-level programming language to Matlab, with similar functionalities such as linear algebra, two- and three-dimensional visualization, optimization, statistics, signal processing, dynamic simulation, and control systems analysis and design.
