Enhancing Financial Performance Through Big Data Analytics Capability, Supply Chain Agility and Supply Chain Performance

The present study aims to establish a link between digital and humanitarian supply chain management. This study has focused on using artificial intelligence-big data analytical capabilities and information alignment to develop and maintain supply chain collaboration to achieve supply chain agility in a dynamic environment like a disaster. The targeted population is humanitarian organizations in Pakistan. Simple random sampling method, data was collected from 242 respondents using an online questionnaire. The Partial Least Square – Structural Equation Modelling technique has been used for analysis. Resource Based Theory and Contingency Theory in this study have provided foundations to develop and test the relationships among information alignment, supply chain agility, artificial intelligence – big data analytical capabilities, and supply chain collaboration in disaster management. Findings showed the use of artificial intelligence – big data analytical capabilities are beneficial for information alignment and supply chain agility.

As the economic environment of the global market is rapidly changing, uncertainty is increasing, and technological innovation, as well as financial and human resources, are becoming important factors. In particular, small and medium-sized export manufacturing companies are building global supply chains to improve their competitive advantage, and big data analytics capabilities to collect and analyze manufacturing and import/export information have been raised as a way to solve these risks. Therefore, this study analyzed the influence of big data analytics capabilities on supply chain performance through logistics flexibility and supply chain resilience in the supply chain formation of small and medium-sized export manufacturing firms. The survey was distributed to small and medium-sized export manufacturing companies from January 3, 2024, to March 31, 2024, through face-to-face, email, mail, and fax, focusing on the list of member companies provided by the Korea International Trade Association, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Association, and the SME Technology Information Promotion Agency. More than 2,000 copies were distributed and 215 copies (21.5%) were collected, and 203 copies of the questionnaire were constructed after removing 12 non-response questionnaires. Based on the collected questionnaires, the analysis was conducted using SPSS Ver. 28.0 and the extension program Process Macro Ver. 4.2. The results of the empirical analysis of this study are as follows. First, big data analytics capabilities have a positive impact on supply chain performance. Second. big data analytics capabilities have a positive effect on supply chain performance through the mediation of logistics flexibility. Third, big data analytics capabilities have a positive effect on supply chain performance through the mediation of supply chain resilience. Fourth, big data analytics capabilities have a positive effect on supply chain performance through the dual media.

PurposeThis study aims to examine the impact of supply chain digitalization (SCD) on supply chain performance (SCP) with the integration of supply chain agility (SCA) and supply chain resilience (SCR) in manufacturing firms. Additionally, it investigates the moderating role of environmental dynamism (ED) in these relationships in the context of manufacturing firms.Design/methodology/approachA quantitative research design was employed, utilizing a structured questionnaire to collect data. The sample consisted of 374 valid responses from various managerial levels within manufacturing firms in Jordan. A purposive sampling technique was used to ensure that participants had relevant expertise in supply chain management. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) through Smart PLS software to test the proposed hypotheses.FindingsThe study found that SCD positively impacts SCP by enhancing both SCA and SCR. Digital technologies were shown to improve supply chain visibility, speed of decision-making and resource efficiency, which are essential for maintaining performance under uncertain conditions. Furthermore, ED significantly moderates the relationship between digitalization and SCP, indicating that the benefits of digitalization on SCA and SCR are more pronounced in highly dynamic environments.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the literature by offering an investigation on the role of SCD in influencing SCA, SCR and ultimately SCP in manufacturing firms. It also sheds light on the moderating effect of ED, providing a deeper understanding of the conditions under which digital transformation in supply chains is most beneficial. The study was based on three theoretical foundations: the resource-based view (RBV), the dynamic capabilities theory (DCT) and the contingency theory (CT).

This research investigates the impact of external environment, cognitive factors, and behavioral dimensions in the context of implementing supply chain agility. It applies social cognitive theory to establish a link between various environments including business uncertainty and supply chain disruption risk, cognitive factors such as supply chain agility self-efficacy, trust, and supply chain cooperation, coordination, and communication attitude, and actions such as implementing supply chain agility as well as behavior to explain the decision-making process in implementation. Based on the survey data collected from 254 supply and purchasing managers in the Korean manufacturing industry, AMOS software with structural equation method was used for data analysis Our results support the concept that business uncertainty reduces self-efficacy in supply chain agility although both business uncertainty and supply chain disruption risk boosted trust in the supply chain as well as buyers’ positive attitude toward supply chain cooperation, coordination, and communication. The concept of supply chain agility, self-efficacy, trust, and supply chain cooperation, coordination, and communication attitude have a positive impact on firm performance. Supply chain agility, self-efficacy, and trust in suppliers positively affects implementation of supply chain agility as well as firms’ financial, operational, and supply chain performance. This research provides meaningful insights for considering external environments and cognitive factors while making decisions in implementing supply chain agility.

PurposeThe current study seeks to investigate how supply chain quality management (SCQM) and supply chain agility (SCA) and innovation (SCI) have an impact on supply chain performance (SCP) and how SCQM affects SCP through the mediating role of SCA and SCI capabilities.Design/methodology/approachIn line with the research objective, a quantitative model was applied, and a multi-item survey questionnaire was developed to collect primary data. A random sample of 284 manufacturing firms belonging to different industries was used. The measurement model was assessed for validity and reliability, and satisfactory levels of these tests were demonstrated. Research hypotheses were examined using structural equation modeling (SEM).FindingsThe results of the current study have significant implications in regard to the further improvement of SCP through SCQM. The study also found that SCQM plays a key role across the entire SC network in facilitating and developing SCA and SCI capabilities. The remarkable findings of the current study revealed the indirect effect of SCQM on SCP through SCA and SCI. These results broaden the work of previous studies which identified the positive effects of SCQM on performance by providing meaningful insights into SCQM's role in promoting SCA and SCI capabilities, which, in turn, further improves SCP.Originality/valueThis study addresses a gap in the literature concerning the effect of SCQM on SCP. In addition, it is the first study, to the best of the researchers' knowledge, to explore the role of two major SC capabilities, namely, SCA and SCI on the SCQM–SCP relationship. Moreover, the present study addresses a questionable issue in the literature regarding practices that conceptualize SCQM. Several studies confuse SCQM practices with internal quality management (QM) practices. This study defines SCQM as consisting of collaborative QM practices with external SC members and proposes five related practices for measuring SCQM.

PurposeIncreasingly, studies are reporting supply chain analytical capabilities as a key enabler of supply chain agility (SCAG) and supply chain performance (SCP). This study investigates the impact of environmental dynamism and competitive pressures in a supply chain analytics setting, and how intangible supply chain analytical capabilities (ISCAC) moderate the relationship between big data characteristics (BDC's) and SCAG in support of enhanced SCP.Design/methodology/approachThe study draws on the literature on big data, supply chain analytical capabilities, and dynamic capability theory to empirically develop and test a supply chain analytical capabilities model in support of SCAG and SCP. ISCAC was the moderated construct and was tested using two sub-dimensions, supply chain organisational learning and supply chain data driven culture.FindingsThe results show that whilst environmental dynamism has a significant relationship on the three key BDC's, only the volume and velocity dimensions are significant in relation to competitive pressures. Furthermore, only the velocity element of BDC's has a significant positive impact on SCAG. In terms of moderation, the supply chain organisational learning dimension of ISCAC was shown to only moderate the velocity aspect of BDC's on SCAG, whereas for the supply chain data driven culture dimension of ISCAC, only the variety aspect was shown to moderate of BDC on SCAG. SCAG had a significant impact on SCP.Originality/valueThis study adds to the existing knowledge in the supply chain analytical capabilities domain by presenting a nuanced moderation model that includes external factors (environmental dynamism and competitive pressures), their relationships with BDC's and how ISCAC (namely, supply chain organisational learning and supply chain data driven culture) moderates and strengthens aspects of BDC's in support of SCAG and enhanced SCP.

This paper aims to determine the relationships between supply chain agility (SCA) in different directions and the operations of the firms operating in emerging nations. An additional objective of this paper is to establish the mediating role of innovative climate in the specific domain. The quantitative field study was conducted on a sample of different SME's managers in Pakistan; 200 surveys were distributed, and the search engine marketing (SEM) technique was utilized to analyze the outcome. Several factors of SCA in the supply chain have been taken into consideration to determine the links of supply chain performance (SCP) and to ascertain the effects of SCP and SCA. SCA factors like swiftness (FAWC) and alertness (FASC) were utilized to establish those linkages towards SCP along with mediating the role of innovative climate. On the basis of calculations, it was observed that there is a positive linkage between FASC and SCP. The linkage of FSWC was also found positive on SCP. Therefore, this study ascertains the fact that FAWC and FASC contain positive connections with the SCP having a positive mediating influence on the innovative climate in the domain of Pakistan. This paper contributed to establishing the fact that innovative climate positively mediates the relationships between FAWC and SCP of the organizations as well as between FASC and SCP, respectively. Such findings confirm the significance of an innovative climate in the organizations, which further support achieving the organization SCP. The findings of this study have implications for sales managers, policymakers, and practitioners who may be interested in considering the impact of personality from a sales perspective.

Purpose This study investigates the impact of big data analytics capabilities on export performance. Moreover, it assesses the mediating effect of the supply chain innovation and moderating effect of supply chain agility. Design/methodology/approach This study is based on primary data that were collected from the manufacturing sector operating in Jordan. A total of 327 responses were used for the final data analysis. Data analysis was performed via a partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. Findings The results of the data analysis supported a positive relationship between big data analytics capabilities and the export performance as well as a mediating effect of supply chain innovation. It was confirmed that supply chain agility moderated the relationship of supply chain innovation and export performance. Originality/value This study developed a theoretical and empirical model to investigate the relationship between big data analytics capabilities, export performance, supply chain innovation and supply chain agility. This study offers new theoretical and managerial contributions that add value to the supply chain management literature by testing the moderated-mediated model of these constructs in the manufacturing sector in Jordan.

Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between knowledge management (KM) processes and supply chain performance, with information technology/information system (IT/IS) support, supply chain integration, and supply chain strategy as moderators.Design/methodology/approach– Drawing on the knowledge-based view, a theoretical framework is developed consisting of six KM processes: knowledge creation, knowledge capture, knowledge organization, knowledge storage, knowledge dissemination, and knowledge application, and the performance of supply chain is evaluated in terms of four Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) process elements: Plan, Source, Make, and Delivery. Structural equation modeling is employed using a sample of 78 Iranian manufacturers in mechanical and engineering industry.Findings– Empirical results show that KM processes have a significant impact on supply chain performance which is positively moderated by IT/IS support and supply chain integration. While the moderating effect of IT/IS support is found to be considerably stronger, the relationship between KM processes and supply chain performance is not significantly different in lean and agile supply chains.Research limitations/implications– Since the sample for this study is small and drawn only from manufacturing companies in mechanical and engineering industry, it would be important to conduct further empirical studies with larger samples from a wider range of industries to improve and strengthen our analyses and provide more conclusive and generalizable results.Originality/value– Through empirical study, a better understanding of the impact of KM processes on supply chain performance and the moderating role of IT/IS support and supply chain integration can be gained.

The intersection of entrepreneurship and supply chain risk management remains an underexplored research area. Therefore, this article examines and empirically validates the relationships between corporate entrepreneurship, supply chain robustness, and supply chain agility as well as the financial and commercial dimensions of business performance. Based on an examination of the extant literature, a research framework proposing positive relationships among these components is introduced. To validate the hypotheses, the authors employ partial least squares structural equation modeling and analyze survey data obtained from 168 global firms. Except for the connections between (1) supply chain robustness and commercial performance and (2) supply chain agility and financial performance, significant positive path coefficients are observed for all hypothesized relationships. According to the findings, corporate entrepreneurship promotes both supply chain robustness and supply chain agility to mitigate supply chain disturbances. In addition, corporate entrepreneurship, supply chain robustness, and supply chain agility enhance different dimensions of business performance. Thereby, we advance the understanding of supply chain risk management by bridging the gap between these research streams.

This study examines the effects of supply chain agility (SCAG) and supply chain resilience (SCRES) on performance under the moderating effect of organizational culture. We have used the dynamic capability view (DCV) to conceptualize our theoretical models for different phases of humanitarian supply chain (HSC) (pre and post-disaster phases). We used partial least squares (PLS) to examine the proposed research hypotheses using 335 responses gathered from organizations in India using questionnaires designed for a single respondent. The results suggest that SCAG and SCRES are two important dynamic capabilities of supply chain, have significant effects on pre-disaster performance (PRE-DP). The control orientation does not have significant effect on the path joining SCAG and PRE-DP. However, the control orientation has a significant interaction effect on the path joining SCRES and PRE-DP. Similarly, SCRES has significant effect on post-disaster performance (POST-DP) but SCAG has no significant effect on POST-DP. In contrast, the flexible orientation has significant moderation effects on the paths SCAG/SCRES and POST-DP. These findings contribute to our understanding of the differential effect of SCAG/SCRES on supply chain performance in different contexts. The results provide further understanding to develop appropriate strategies for different phases. Finally, limitations of our study and future research are presented.

Extant research shows that big data analytics (BDA) capability is often employed as a part of organizational resources to enhance firm performance. Drawing upon the resource-based view, dynamic capabilities, and contingency theory, this study endeavors to examine the alignment between BDA capability and a specific type of procurement strategies (i.e., supplier development) and its impact on firm performance. The study extends the BDA capability research by investigating the direct impact of BDA capability on supplier development and firm performance, respectively, and by exploring both mediating and moderating effects on the relationship between supplier development and firm performance. The main results show that a firm’s BDA capability has not only a direct positive significant impact on supplier development, but also a direct positive significant impact on its business performance. More importantly, the results indicate strong moderating and mediating effects of BDA capability on supplier development, which in turn affects the improvement of firm performance. Theoretical and managerial implications along with future research directions are provided in the end.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the complex interrelationships among the key constructs, supply chain orientation (SCO), supply chain integration (SCI) and supply chain performance (SCP) in Indian manufacturing industries. These relationships have been studied using the relational view (RV) and the knowledge-based view (KBV) theoretical perspectives. Design/methodology/approach The conceptual model was derived from the existing body of knowledge in the supply chain domain. The study is based on a sample size of 122 data collected via face-to-face meetings with the Indian manufacturers using well-established scales. The covariance-based structural equation modeling was used to test the proposed hypotheses. Findings In Indian manufacturing and supply chains, SCO has a positive relationship with SCI and SCP. Moreover, the direct impact of SCO on SCP diminishes when SCI is used as a mediating variable. This study also observes positive impact of: i) SCO on SCP, ii) SCI on SCP and iii) discovery of mediating role of SCI on SCP under the theoretical lenses of RV and KBV. Research limitations/implications Cross-sectional survey of manufacturing firms of one country (using one response per firm) calls for validation covering other parts of the world and demands a longitudinal survey. This research will trigger more scholarly, practice and policy debate among researchers studying Indian and emerging economies context. Practical implications The notion of a holistic view of the SC with a focus on improving the customer value can enhance strategic partnerships among the SC partners (i.e. SCI) and overall SCP. Firms should make efforts to include SCI in SC designs to successfully transform SCO into SCP. Originality/value The originality of the research lies in studying the complex interrelationships among key concepts of SC in a unique Indian manufacturing context. The Indian supply chains operate in a set of unique characteristics, which have been detailed out in this paper. This paper not only establishes the mediating role of SCI for overall SCP in emerging economies but also enhances the scholarly knowledge in the SC domain. Most studies report SCO as a single-order construct, measured by scales comprising of only few items. The second-order SCO measures in this study bring credibility to the findings. Additionally, it contributes to both academicians and practitioners alike in the context of an integrated SC in emerging economies.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to develop a theoretical model to explain the impact of big data analytics capabilities (BDAC) on company’s supply chain sustainability (CSCS). The secondary objective of the study is to assess the relationship between different dimensions of supply chain sustainability and companies’ BDAC.Design/methodology/approachThis research was carried out by conducting a survey among 234 pharmaceutical companies in Iran (a case study of Iran), using a standard questionnaire of BDAC and United Nations (UN) online self-assessment on supply chain sustainability. However, the respond of managers of 188 companies were usable in this research. Smart PLS3 was used to employ partial least squares method to examine the validity and reliability of the measurement and structural model.FindingsThe results of this study demonstrate that BDAC have a strong impact on both pharmaceutical supply chain sustainability, and the dimensions including vision, engage and internal. It is found that the relationships between BDAC and the other dimensions of supply chain sustainability including expect, scope and goals are not significant but positive.Research limitations/implicationsResearch on the relationship between BDAC and CSCS, especially in the pharmaceutical supply chain, is scanty, and this gap is highlighted in developing countries and the pharmaceutical supply chain that plays a prominent role in public health. This paper discusses several important barriers to forming a sustainable supply chain and strong BDA capabilities.Practical implicationsThis paper could be a guide to managers and consultants who are involved in big data analytics and sustainable development. Since UN urges companies do the online self-assessment, the results of this paper would be attractive and useful for UN global compact specialists.Originality/valueNo study has directly measured the relation between BDAC and CSCS and different dimensions of CSCS, using a comprehensive survey throughout all pharmaceutical companies in Iran. Moreover, this research assesses the different dimensions of BDA capabilities and supply chain sustainability. This paper represents the facts about situation of sustainability of pharmaceutical supply chain and BDAC in these companies, and discloses several related issues that are serious barriers to forming a sustainable supply chain and strong BDAC. In addition, this paper provided academic support for UN questionnaire about CSCS and used it in the survey.

Purpose Existing supply chain (SC) performance models are not able to cope with the potential of intensive SC digitalisation and establish a relationship between decisions and decision criteria. The purpose of this paper is to develop an integrated knowledge-based system (KBS) that creates a link between decisions and decision criteria (attributes) and evaluates the overall SC performance. Design/methodology/approach The proposed KBS is grounded on the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (fuzzy AHP), which establishes a relationship between short-term and long-term decisions and SC performance criteria (short-term and long-term) for accurate and integrated Overall SC performance evaluation. Findings The proposed KBS evaluates the overall SC performance, establishes a relationship between decisions (long-term and short-term) and decision criteria of SC functions and provides decision makers with a view of the impact of their short-term or long-term decisions on overall SC performance. The proposed system was implemented in a case company where the authors were able to develop a SC performance monitoring dashboard for the company’s top managers and operational managers. Practical implications The proposed KBS assists organisations and decision makers in evaluating their overall SC performance and helps in identifying underperforming SC functions and their associated criteria. It may also be considered as a tool for benchmarking SC performance against competitors. It can efficiently point to improvement directions and help decision makers improve overall SC performance. Originality/value The proposed KBS provides a holistic and integrated approach, establishes a relationship between decisions and decision criteria and evaluates overall SC performance, which is one of the main limitations in existing supply chain performance measurement systems.
